Elizabeth York was born on August 20, 1974 and grew up in Manhattan, New York. One of the busiest and most bustling cities in America. Which is probably why she thrives under chaos. Growing up, Elizabeth, or as her mother loves to call her “Izzy” (which she hates) always had a passion for clothing. From an early age, she would always pair the oddest items in her closet together and somehow it worked. Even when it was supposed to. She took sewing lessons while the other girls took ballet. She’d use her allowance money to buy stacks and stacks of fashion magazines instead of jewelery. She was always an odd bird and was repeatedly teased for it. So, Eliza's thick skin started at a very early age. She grew up pretty much on her own until she was 12 and her mother surprised her with an early Christmas gift of a baby sister. Who Elizabeth refers to as Winny and adores deeply. She will do anything for her younger sister. Mostly because their mother had an undiagnosed drinking problem, so Elizabeth felt it was her responsibility to take care of Winny. The two are really inseparatable and they communicate at least once a day.

After high school, she knew that she wanted to do something in the fashion industry and wouldn’t stop until she got there. She initially went for fashion design but all the business aspect ruined her love of making clothes. But she sure did love jotting all her thoughts down and sharing it with her professors or anyone else that would listen. So, Elizabeth took side classes in journalism and eventually graduated with a Master’s degree in English and Writing and then also with a Bachelor’s in Journalism.

It was in college that Elizabeth actually allowed herself to fall in love. Grant Turner. He was one of her English professors and they were smitten right off the bat. He encouraged her to write and write and write some more. And they were able to keep their love at bay until she graduated. It was shortly after that they got married. But, she didn’t have a steady job so they ideal family idea had to be put on hold. Elizabeth really wanted to start having children, but Grant convinced her it wasn’t a good time. It really was that he didn’t want to have children. It didn’t “suit” his life style. But Elizabeth went along with it.

She was able to score an internship at FACE magazine. It’s one of the highest ranking fashion publicians in America. And she worked hard. Late nights and stupid errand runs. But she did it all. And still wrote as much as her brain could squeeze out. Saving them for later when she could finally publish them. Like every good working person, she climbed her way up the ladder. Rung by rung and by no surprise, she made it all the way to the top. Shortly after becoming Editor and Chief, she found out she was pregnant. Gavin Turner was born and then two years later she had Zander. Her two precious jewels. Nothing compares to the love she has for them.

But, as stated before, Grant didn’t exactly want children. So, when Zander was born, Grant filed for divorce. He claimed that she was a workaholic and never made time for him or their children. It was a very long divorce battle but she came out on the other side and gained full custody of her two boys. Giving Grant a huge settlement out of her income.

After the divorce, Elizabeth changed her name back to York and shortened her first name to Iliza. It just seemed to fit better. The thick skin is always present and it’s not easy for her to open up to people. The only ones that can get through to her are Winny and her boys. She is often seen as cold or icy, but it’s a way of protecting herself.
