I remember so many of my friends (myself included) lied about our age so we could open up pa/yp/al accounts and start taking commissions to save up money so we could leave our abusive homes. that was fucked. none of us should've had to do that. but there's no efficient, safe way for kids to self-report abuse and actually have action taken in a way that doesn't automatically subject them to immediate retaliation, incarceration, or otherwise further the abuse they experience. they're fucking helpless.

#mad scrawl #youth shelters rly aren't enough #and where I was from we didn't HAVE any #and I wouldn't have known about one anyway #like.#we need some sort of SOMETHING that lets kids get the fuck away from their families of their own volition #while still being able to ensure wherever else they're ending up is safe and good for them #the current system DOES. NOT. WORK.#there HAS to be something man #idk. group homes for teenagers with an adult or two also living there to supervise and help them #you could prepare them to live on their own while still giving them an in-between for them and the 'adult' world #I really could've used something like that #and if shit like this DOES exist then it needs to be fucking promoted #there need to be school programs that inform kids what is and isn't abuse and what to do and where to go if they're being abused #and want to get out #'but what if a kid LIES to get away from their family?'#I mean the kid probably has a reason to want to get away then??? but if they really want to go back they could. idk #i think a better society is possible
