' sorry, i haven't gotten to see the pups lately. ' as if they were still pups && not long since full-fledged. ' how have they been? '

she could spend hours talking about the puppies if she wanted to, but for the sake of sparing eden a whole novel, she’ll only touch upon the highlights. “they’re all very well! i took them to the vet the other day and everyone in the office complimented deedee on her little bow on her ear and tintin on his nice bandana. lemon was really excited to go out, but i had a little trouble getting him from the car into the vet’s office since he just kept sitting in the driver’s seat. 

the vet said jojo was a big girl, but she’s not gaining any unhealthy weight which is really good. i was worried we were spoiling her with too many treats ( and too much time sitting in laps! ). and then after the vet we went on our walk and tintin’s bandana fell off, but he picked it up himself and carried it to me so i could tie it back on for him. what a good boy right?” 

hours. this conversation could go on for hours if it wasn’t for the fact that jojo had found where alison was and was nudging at her feet. perhaps she had heard eden’s voice ( or just knew that it had to be eden calling at this time ). “oh, i think someone wants to say hi to you. say hi to the princess, eden! you’re on speakerphone!”

' ali, do you think i look too much like a softie now ? when i first started dating lanzo, some nosy people kept asking me who quote unquote wore the pants of the relationship but now, i've got like a bunch of people who are calling me a pillow princess. '

“pillow princess?” well—that was one nickname that embodied softness. “i dont think i can really say you look more like a softie since you look just about the same to me. maybe gotten a little taller, but that’s hard to tell since you’ve always been so much taller.” she puts her finger to her lip, tilting her head to the side as she tried to think of what she wanted to say, glancing at eden now and then to “study” him. “i think—since you started dating lanzo, what you think is softness might just be how you act around him as a result of you really enjoying his company. call me a romantic, but i think you just really like him, and it comes out in your mannerisms. i dont think it’s anything you should really be ashamed of though.” 

she’s always been quite supportive of her friend’s relationship, and she really hoped “pillow princess” wasn’t going to stir up doubt and self-consciousness in eden.

“oh—!” and she suddenly feels her stomach press more into the mattress, an even weight distributed across her back. she could feel the rise and fall of another’s breathing as well, and just judging by how much the bed had shifted when this other presence joined her, she had a feeling it wasn’t her cat. “well, hello. i don’t remember adopting another kitty.” gentle teasing words, the brunette turning to each side to figure out just where the other’s face was.

“are you hungry? is that why you’re here?” it was a possibility, but chances were, eden just wanted to spend time with her now that he had found her hidden away in her room. she had only planned to come in here for a moment to look for a memo she had left on her mirror, but she easily got distracted by other tasks on her to do list. “sorry—i didn’t mean to leave you all alone in the living room. we can go back out if you’d like. or we can stay here.” and she giggles, shifting her weight a tad so she could get a better look at her friend. “you seem comfortable.”

upsy-daisy! and her feet were no longer in touch with ground as she was slung over eden’s shoulder, her viewpoint changing so that she could only see what was behind eden. “kidnapping me???” her tone had matched the urgency that was in his, and she feigned struggling, wriggling about in his his hold. “but who will take care of the puppies?”

9. a kiss on the forehead

“come on, eden, don’t be like that.” her voice carries just over the pillow she was clutching to her chest, her eyes focused on her friend who was sprawled out at the foot of the bed with his arm over his eyes. it was true their plans hadn’t gone as expected, what with the weather turning gloomy and storming just as they were about to head out, and she could only imagine how disappointed eden was, especially since work had been especially rough on him that past week. just a day to have fun after a hellish week—was that really too much to give him? 

with a slight pout, she moves the pillow she was holding to the side, crawling closer to him and peering down. “we can make fun of infomercials together if that’ll make you feel better.” and she lowers herself down to press a chaste kiss to his forehead, hovering just a little longer in case he decided to move his arm. “we can make fun of informercials and i’ll make you a bowl of comfort pasta. please talk to me?”

falls off of rainbow road the moment he says it. proceeds to pout. “bowser ran right into me, that’s not fair.” maybe if you chose another character besides yoshi, you wouldn’t have that problem.

it made her feel a little out of place, hearing eden wonder aloud about where his first girlfriend could possibly be, what she could possibly be doing. it was just him musing to himself, a consequence of them talking briefly about their past, but there was something about eden speaking of his past girlfriend that made alison feel—odd. 

she hadn’t thought about what any of her former lovers could be doing ( and she didn’t very much care to know about that let alone wonder in detail ), so to see eden ponder on the topic while peeling his orange at the kitchen counter was quite—strange. 

not as strange as some of the other things eden had done, of course, but the name of their exes hadn’t been spoken for quite some time, since they first disclosed to each other their history and why both of their walls had been so high and guarded. that seemed like ages ago, though, and for the name emma to return to their conversation briefly and for that girl to occupy eden’s attention for a slight moment—it felt as though there were three people in their kitchen now instead of two. 

but how preposterous! eden was simply musing, nothing more! a curious wonder, a harmless thought. and yet, why did alison feel so out of place about the whole thing? “i’m sure she’s doing fine. it’s been years, eden.” but for her to say that seemed to put a sour taste in her mouth. years didn’t seem to heal as much as people said it would; she of all people should know that. 

“would you recognize her if you saw her again?”

pulling her hand away from her cheek, he gently kissed her fingers, soft-beamed expression as he looked up at her. ❝ it's the third time you've checked the mirror. you look amazing. ❞

she suddenly lost interest in the stray hairs that kept coming undone from her bobby pins or whether or not her concealer was creasing underneath her eyes when she felt loving kisses being placed upon herself, eden’s voice seeming to wipe away all her jitteriness about the upcoming event. 

she found herself blushing just from his compliment, her gaze averted from the mirror and instead down to the ground, a silly little smile spreading on her face as she turns to look at eden in person rather than at his reflection. “i just really want everything to go well tonight, is all. i’m really nervous about something going wrong.” she lets their fingers intertwine, alison finding comfort in the way her hand fits into his. 

“but—everything will be alright, right?”

who gets overwhelmed by small acts of kindness? alison honestly bc she’s an emotional little bean, but i think eden would also get really touched by small acts of kindness from alison, especially when he wasn’t expecting it. alison isn’t used to small acts of kindness though, so everything eden does really affects her ( in a good way!! )

who flinches at sudden movements? alison; it’s gotten a lot better as time has passed but she’s still quite jumpy, though that’s also because she’s easily scared.

who is most confused as to why their S.O. is still with them? most likely eden; i don’t want to speak for eden’s muse since he’s obviously not my muse but i would think he’s the most confused since he doesn’t see himself to be worthy of alison and thinks she deserves someone so much better than him ( though in reality, alison also sees herself as unworthy or that eden totally deserves someone special and that he’s not scum )

who has to constantly check their S.O. still loves them? i feel like they both do the i love you checks, sometimes jokingly but other times because they really feel insecure about themselves and whether or not agreeing to become an official couple was the best move. 

who says the other/s would be better off with someone else? eden, again because of how unworthy he sees himself and how highly he sees alison. alison’s own doubt is quite evident but she wouldn’t come to a point where she would tell eden that he should be with someone else; i can imagine eden telling alison this in one of his lowest points, and of course she’d talk him out of thinking such a thing.

who gets surprised when they are given gifts? alison, especially bc gifts from significant others is kind of foreign for her since all of her former lovers were pretty terrible people. but of course eden would be surprised too bc gifts are surprising!

who is most likely to break down on the other and how does their S.O. attempt to calm them down? this really depends on where in the timeline they are i think because at the start, alison would probably still have her nightmares and her insecure thinking and anxiety, so at this point eden would be the one to calm her down and hold her at night and talk to her to keep her calm, or hold her face gently so she could focus on him and just on him to calm her down. if this was later on when eden’s mental illness progresses and he’s undergoing treatment and it gets to a really bad point, then it’d be alison who comforts him, and i imagine she’s hold his face and have him focus on her too, or she’d tell him stories to distract him while playing with his hair or letting him lay his head in her lap.

who is most self conscious in public? alison; she’s just a self conscious person in general when there’s a lot of people around. 

who is more likely to apologize a million time for a tiny mistake? alison, especially at the start of their relationship because she doesn’t want them to get into another nasty fight and never talk to each other ever again. 

who admits they’re scared only when they think their S.O. is asleep and how does the other react? i think eden would do this?? like when alison is asleep first and he just kind of watches her and talks to her and gets really emotional because he wants to tell her a lot of things but cant bring himself to yet. and she doesn’t want to really make him panic or anything so she’d probably pretend to stay asleep but shift so she could hold him and then maybe bring it up the next day so that he knows she supports him and that he can talk to her when she’s awake too. 

who never thinks they’re good enough for the other? this is a mutual feeling between the two i’d imagine. they may not always express it openly, but they both have this small part of them that thinks they aren’t good enough for the other and that one day something could go wrong and the other would leave them. granted, it’s a irrational thought most of the time bc they’re quite stable in terms of a relationship, but it’s hard for them to shake off the insecurities. 

who takes a bullet for the other? e d e n; there’s no way he’d let her get hurt after everything she’s been through, and with her being like a goddess to him, i’d imagine he’d do whatever it took to make sure she was safe and alive even if it meant harm to himself. which is tragic and alison would hate hearing him say how he’d sacrifice his life for her ( because if he dies, then she loses him and living without him will never be the same as when they were together ) as good as his intentions are.

hands are held up in a surrendering motion, alison taking a few steps back from the many pairs of eyes that are all looking at her upon her entrance into the room. “i didn’t realize you were in the middle of a meeting, my apologies. i just wanted to let you know that the cookies are done. carry on.” and she makes a grab for the door handle and shuts the door quickly before lemon could slip away from the group and attempt to join alison, his perked up ears already telling her that he was ready to run after her.
