Here is the first one of this series! I'll try to write an alphabet for (almost) EVERY acotar man. Thank you so much for the 1,3k! 9. SHIN - Ok, throughout the most part of the story, he was just Mikey's dead brother, who Mikey himself led us to believe was weak, generally lame, and a hopeless loser with women. Then we got the flashback chapters in the last arc, and what did we see? Capable, hardworking, caring, loving, selfless, persistant man, strong both in a fight and in holding his ground. Hell, he cared for vegetative Mikey for four years, pretty much all alone, sacrificing his own dreams and life in the process. Also, black turtlenecks and bomber jackets. That's all I'm gonna say.

8. HANMA - Who doesn't love a bit of occasional insanity?! The ultimate troll, both in the verse and in the fandom, tricked us all good! That's just how bored he was. Annoying, completely random and unpredictable, grinning madman who's only there to watch the world burn, by setting it ablaze with his own hotness! I mean, tall, tattoed, well dressed, cocky, handsome bastard, with sleepy eyes, anyone?! I hate the fact that he's giving an inexplicably strong 'boyfriend vibe'! But, I just wanna call him 'Shuuji'... 🤭

7. HAKKAI - This cutie is criminally underrated and slept on! I know Wakui did him dirty by not giving him a more complex personality than just a Mitsuya simp, but look at him! Tall, handsome, strong, blue eyes, lip scar, piercing. No wonder he ended up with a modeling career! 2. KAZUTORA - There's just something indescribably magnetic about the whole "redeemed sinner" trope, and that alone would have been enough to get him a spot on this list! Pathological loyalty is beyond hot, wearing a mask is hot, scars are super hot (as already established), suits are hot, piercings are hot, long lashes are hot, pale blond/albino is hot, green eyes are hot, skillfully wielding a sword is hot, smarts are hot, being a little bit deranged is hot... the list could really go on for days, there's literally nothing about him that doesn't make him hot. "...Being a homicidal maniac and a drug addict?" No, he's excused for all red flags on the account of pretty privilege!

What do you think are William and Sherlock’s (from Yuumori) greatest personality strengths and weaknesses? Why? What do you love about their dynamic?

Why is this structured like one of those prompts you'd find in a middle school english class I can't stop laughing-

Okay okay silliness aside these are great questions and I'd love to answer them

I've mentioned it in a previous ask when asked my favorite thing about him, but I personally think William's greatest strength is his determination; the moment he decides on something wholeheartedly, he puts his entire being into it, whether it be the Moriarty Plan or his new purpose during the NYC arc, and he becomes an almost unstoppable force. For Sherlock, I think his greatest strength is how steadfast he is with his desires and wants; he wants to be someone who solves things, he wants to crack the Lord of Crime mystery himself, he wants to be more than a puppet on a string, and he wants the people he cares about safe, and by god is he going to keep those things no matter what

On the other hand: I think William's greatest weakest is also his determination, though, because he grows so tunnel-visioned on what he wants to achieve that he forgets or purposefully neglects things that are important to him (take the Moriarty Plan for example: he was so determined to have it end with his own death that he neglected the feelings of his brothers and companions towards that matter, and was neglecting the feelings developing between himself and Sherlock because he was so determined to die he didn't think a companionship would have ever been achievable) Furthermore, I think Sherlock's greatest weakness is his arrogance. There are times where he grows a little too egotistical about himself, and it negatively affects him or the people around him (like him slapping some sort of blame onto John for not letting him kill Hope despite it being his own choice leading to a fight, or the way he grows boastful and arrogant around Lestrade leading to the inspector having a "I'm only putting up with you because you're good at what you do" sort of attitude towards Sherlock most of the time)

I love way too much about their dynamic though. I was hinting at it earlier with their strengths, but they're such an "unstoppable force meets unmovable object" pair! And I'm obsessed with how their dynamic progresses throughout the narrative: it starts as this kinda of chess game, this kind of cat-and-mouse or puppet and puppeteer; but it slowly unravels into this sort of dynamic where they can see right through each other, but they still don't know the other's next move for certainty, and then it starts shifting and setting into an equal companionship/partnership all with that unstoppable force/unmovable object undertone. They make me wanna bite through steel!

OC Origins Tag

I’ve got a crap ton of characters so I’m only going over a few.

To be honest these are going to be a bit of a bummer, sorry. (CW: Grief and Death)

Narul

Narul comes from a number of places. His name actually comes from a little fantasy story I wrote during middle school. It was about a world of underground people below the Sahara desert, that country was called Narul. The name Narul is literally the only thing leftover from that. Narul's character is based on something that happened to me when I was still in highschool. I wasn't very popular and I was kind of a quiet person, people didn't really mess with me but aside from a few people they didn't talk to me all that much either (the black trench coat and combat boots that I insisted on wearing probably didn't help.) One place where I was active was in drama and there was a person that I had been talking to for a while and I thought we were pretty close friends. One day they came up to me and said "When I first met you, you were kind of scary, but you're actually pretty cool." Now I know that was supposed to be a compliment, but something about the fact that they had thought I was scary really bothered me. It sort of messed with my self-esteem for a while. Narul is "scary" but he is in actuality a very emotional and caring person, and he struggles with the idea that other people are scared or intimidated by him. Narul is also sort of meant to be a way for me to address some of my fears and thoughts about time and forgetting and losing the people around you.

Ninma

So Ninma came from a number of places. Her name was mostly just thought up, roughly inspired by a few different Sumerian/Akkadian names and places.  As for Ninma herself, she’s of course inspired by characters like Ellie from the Last of Us, Laura from Logan, and Koda from Brother Bear. She’s also inspired by a couple people that I know in real life, namely my partner and my brother. When she grows up and is with Jani in particular, she’s inspired by my partner. Ninma is meant to be the opposite of Narul, she’s rash and clever, charismatic. Though Narul is of course bigger and stronger and is the main POV, in terms of their effect on the world around them, Ninma is by far the more important character. The meaning that she is able to find in a human life is at the core of the first three books of my WIP (The Ninma Cycle).

Akard

Akard’s name comes from the city of Akkad, the capital of the Akkadian Empire, arguably the first in history. He is inspired by characters like Cyrus and Alexander the Great, as well as other famous rulers. A lot of the story as a whole revolves around the theme of Death (Narul’s inability to die, war, sickness, growing old, etc.), Akard’s terminal sickness, Asherdul’s Bane, is meant to serve as a sort of driving force behind his actions. Of course we all know that we have a limited time, but for Akard it's more real. He has to finish what there is to finish before his time is up. In that he acts as the opposite side of the coin to characters like Narul and Mikrab or Batricca, all of which have so much time that it sort of just becomes meaningless. Akard initially started as a much more villainous and evil character, the sort of typical “evil lord” sort of character, but as I thought about him more he changed. Akard is genuinely a good king (as good as absolute monarchs can be at least), he’s brave and fair, and even the terrible things he does, he does for a reason. It just so happens that these reasons endanger the MCs. 

Penetinos

Speaking of characters with terminal illness, Penetinos is directly inspired by and modeled after my grandfather, he’s probably the most blatant character basis. He was a history teacher, quiet and kind. His hands shook from an accident when he was a kid. He read constantly and he introduced me to online gaming.  He had cancer almost the entire time that I knew him. It was pretty easy to forget about it sometimes, until it wasn’t. For the last couple of years, we all, including him, knew that the end was coming. I’ll admit I’ve never been particularly comfortable with the idea of death. As a kid I’d run into the bathroom in the middle of the night and cry thinking about death, and just the thought of things ending. He never seemed all that bothered by it, at least in front of me. We never really talked about it, but something about his attitude and seeing how he dealt with his illness helped me come to terms with that sort of thing. A big part of my inspiration for writing this story was addressing my own thoughts and anxieties about the passing of time, losing people, and death. He passed last year.  I regret that I didn’t talk to him more. We were both sort of quiet people, and as I got older and he got sicker, we just had less to talk about. I think that in some ways, his introducing me to things like Everquest, is a reason why I got interested in fantasy and thus why I started writing this book. It only feels right that he should have some part in Kobani. 

Istek

The name Istek is pretty much just gibberish, just a random sound that I made which I turned into a name, even in Kishite it's not really a name, his name means Seagull. Istek is also inspired by one of my grandpas. He was the opposite in a lot of the ways of the person that inspired Penetinos. He was loud, he liked to wrestle, he would tell stories about his time in the navy and growing up in the middle of nowhere, he would spend hours at estates hours and come back with old national geographics and vintage toys to give to his grandkids. It's this sort of bigger than life personality that inspired Istek. It's not a coincidence that they were both sailors. He passed my freshman year. Istek is all about memory, he tells stories about his adventures all the time, he brags, he wants people to remember him. Even as he lives life to the fullest he also holds onto the past. My grandfather had Alzheimer's and as a result he would often forget that he had told us a story. And so he would tell the same story multiple times. There’s a lot of stories of his that I vividly remember because of how many times he told him. I think part of the reason he told those stories so many times was to make sure that he remembered them too.  I’ve dealt with a lot of anxieties that I might also start to forget things about myself too one day. Narul’s fears about forgetting the people he cares about as time passes is inspired by that anxiety, as is Mikrab who has forgotten everything about his past. Now Istek, being queer is entirely something that I made up, I’m pretty certain that my grandfather wasn’t queer. My grandfather was also a very tall and strong man, so Istek being short is sort of a personal joke of mine. In some ways, Istek is who I wish I could be, free and happy, secure in himself and his place in the world. Istek doesn't let himself worry about the future, not when there is so much in the present to be enjoy and be thankful for.

My Analysis of the Best Paired Endings in 3H (Part 12: Raphael/Bernadetta)

Raphael: Mercenaries have no responsibilities, and no one else to worry about. But someone's gotta take care of my little sis, so that's out of the question. Serving as a knight in a noble house is more secure, and you don't have to worry about dying…unless there's a war. My sis has been through so much. I don't want her to have to worry about me.

Raphael chose a more difficult path in life for the sake of his little sister. After their parents died, he enrolled in the academy to become a knight to a noble house to earn money for her.

Raphael: Fighting alongside you and everyone else is a dream come true, Professor! And don't worry about my little sis. Right now she's back home helping out with the family business. I kinda figured I was gonna be stuck going back and taking over for her. But thanks to you and Claude, I get to work on my dream of becoming a proper knight!

Claude told him that a knight's main function was to fight and defend, but to Raphael, a proper knight was someone who was virtuous and always helped those in need. And his wish at the Goddess Tower was to become a proper knight. Taking over the inn was something he was always reluctant to do unless he had no choice.

Raphael: Sure, it's not my favorite thing in the world, but that was to keep my little sis fed. I had good reason for it. Byleth: It's the same for me. Raphael: The same, huh? I think I get what you mean. You do things you don't wanna do for the sake of everyone else. That's real noble of you, Professor. I guess I can't get in your way if you're doing it for the right reasons.

Nobody is nicer guy than Raphael. A big part of his character was that he did things he didn't want to do for the sake of others.

Raphael: And y'know? I'm totally OK not being a knight. Once this war is finally over and we're at peace again, I'm gonna take over the inn. So don't worry about me, OK? Follow your own dreams, Ignatz.

In Hopes, his Houses solo ending, and most of his paired endings, he doesn't achieve his dream of becoming a proper knight, because he gives up knighthood to manage his family's inn. In the paired endings where he does manage the inn, it helps his partner, but it wasn't what he wanted to do.

Raphael & Ignatz After returning to his hometown, Raphael served as a knight to the local lord while assisting his grandfather and sister in managing the inn they had opened as a side job. However, Maya, his sister, suddenly disappeared, leaving behind a note saying she wanted to become a painter. Raphael, resigning from his knighthood, managed the inn while waiting for his sister's return. Several years later, Maya returned, not as a painter, but as the wife of a painter. Introduced as her husband was Ignatz. At that time, he was nothing more than an unknown artist, but supported by Raphael, Maya, and his father and brother who recognized his talent, Ignatz continued to pursue his dream and eventually became a renowned painter representing Fódlan.

In his paired ending with Ignatz, he gives up his own dream so that Ignatz can live his dream with Maya. It's sweet of him to do so, but the ideal ending would be for both of them to achieve their dreams.

Ferdinand: Do you not realize that life is passing you by? Have you no desire to venture beyond this reclusive lifestyle? There is a whole world waiting for you out there.

It is important to note that Bernadetta is a Sagittarius. Fire signs are considered the most masculine signs. Sagittarius is bold, unapologetic and forward-thinking, and is known for its carefree nature. They are natural intellectuals and explorers. Bernie's hyper-anxious personality is completely unnatural for her. It is the result of sexist abuse to make her submissive, like a "good wife" should be. It's not who she really is.

Bernadetta: But wouldn't it be nice to spend some time alone with a nice guy in this lonely tower, cut off from all the rest of the world?

Bernie's wish at the Goddess Tower was to spend her life in solitude, something Byleth won't promise with her. But just before that, she said she wanted to be alone with a nice guy. So, she didn't really want to be alone. She shut herself away and let life pass her by, which all of her friends were concerned about. Her character arc was about overcoming her anxiety and her fear of befriending commoners, and also becoming more independent. Something which is extremely hard for her to do, based on her endings.

Bernadetta: I'm afraid to go home…afraid to see my parents…

In her solo ending, she becomes a hermit known as the "Bear of Varley". In her S-Support with Byleth, she is hiding away in her room again because she's afraid to go back home. In her ending with Byleth, she never overcomes her shyness (except in CF where she has to fight TWSITD). If she marries Ferdinand, she lives in his territory and stays home while he travels.

She does the same with Felix and becomes even more reclusive with him. If she marries Linhardt, she won't leave her room unless she has to give a lecture. In her ending with Caspar, he frequently counts her as one of his children. If she marries Seteth, she commits to life as a recluse. And she has to stay glued to Yuri's side.

Bernadetta bears the Crest of Indech, which is associated with Temperance. The Temperance card in Tarot is about the blending of opposites and the achieving of synthesis. It's about harmony, peace, and patience. As her complete opposite, Raphael was the one person who helped her the most. Bernadetta was the only female character who seemed to fall for Raphael at the end of their Support chain. The one "wifely" skill she enjoyed was cooking and Raphael's true passion was food. She was even excited for the war to end so she could cook for him whenever he wanted.

Bernadetta & Raphael Bernadetta succeeded the title of Countess Varley in place of her father but chose to seclude herself within her domain, never involving herself in national affairs. Raphael appeared on the scene, aiming to help Bernadetta engage with others. According to Bernadetta's memoirs, it was described as "a kind of public humiliation," yet whether this tough love worked or not, she began to interact with her subjects as their ruler, eventually becoming involved in central policies. Their grand wedding reportedly featured a bride uncharacteristically outgoing and a groom flexing his muscles as he circulated among guests.

This is the only ending (besides the one with Byleth in CF) where Bernie totally overcomes her shyness and actually becomes outgoing and assertive, like she would have been all along if not for her father's abuse. She's the exact opposite of a submissive wife and competently manages her territory.

And it's the only ending where Raphael achieves his dream and becomes a knight to a noble house (much safer than being a mercenary), while also helping someone in need. It's also one of the only endings where he finds love and gets married. He's certainly not the rich nobleman her father would have chosen, so we know that Bernie has developed the confidence to stand up to him.

The question is how are you able to make a Dark!Dick~? I might struggle to write him like that because I always envision him as the fun big brother~

The ideas I want to share with you~ While I already did that in the latest chapter of your NSFW art, I want to expand a little more~ Raven would be wearing a maid costume when serving the Batboys, having Dick as Slade's apprentice to capture Raven, having Raven in the mercy of libertine Batboys in a historical France (without the more messed up parts), or dark!Domestic DickRae, maybe with a crib nearby~

The question actually had me taken aback lol, I'm never the best author to begin with and I constantly struggle to churn out non-awkward sentences, so being asked for writing advice is new to me :)))

I reckon that you're placing Dick on too high of a pedestal, thus writing him being part of a vile, diabolical scheme (even when he only had one foot in it and doesn't actually play any imperative role) seems like a dishonorable thing to do. The only feasible tactic when it comes to molding a dubious character is to change your perceptive of them, they are human, they are breakable, they are susceptible to the effects of the drastic shift in their environments. You have problem visioning him as anything but the perfect ball of sunshine who help people get back on their feet like a good brother, and that's interfering with you being able to stain that image of him.

Dick has demons flying in his head and a scarred heart full of troubles (this is already established in the comic, it's canon so don't worry about making him OOC). Exploit this, use it as a setup for your plotline, have him listening to the voices in his mind in lieu of tuning them out, and the important thing is, let him sink. Don't bother yourself with trivial concerns like 'Is this becoming of him' or 'Nah this is way to beneath our golden boi', he has to descend into madness, that's the whole point of choosing the negative arc over the positive one and build a dark character.

And don't mistake dark with being cold, standoffish, desolate or having an angsty vocabulary and always whine about their misery, because, I'll be frank, that's how you write an epic edge lord, not a crime lord. That dark part isn't their core personality or their entire nature, it's only the result of having something inside them snapped and leaving behind a hollow space, followed by a warp of their psyche. Nothing else, though. In other words, their morals are looser and they are more willing to solve matters in a more extreme methods than most idealistic characters, but they aren't necessarily evil. They can be kind and caring without having to pretend, they can give motivational advice and hold you as you cry in your darkest moment, they can spare beggars some changes on a good day. But if they are crossed, all Hell broke loose, and they simply go Hannibal on the idiot dumb enough to do that.

I personally enjoy the concept of sweet, lovable devils. They cannot even be considered morally grey with the shit they have done, but when they are not bathed in blood, they are gentle and supportive and draw people towards them with their calm, reasonable personality. They are not masking, that's simply who they are.

They're trickier to pull off than the typical raging idiot who never stop wanting people to know how life was hard on them and they have no other choice, of course, since their actions always seem to be in conflict with their nature, and one wrong decision can ruin them for good. But I think they are interesting characters to construct as long as you know how to handle their story and psychology.

Well Known Knights of the Round Table Ranked

King Arthur: ???/10 So he's weird because his whole deal is that he's a Good King. The interpretation of what that is varies from person to person so he's wildly different across pretty much everything. Is he a noble and somber figure doing his best? Is he a kind of dumb but well meaning golden retriever of a man? Is he a mighty warrior and shrewd politician? Depending on the person, yes. And while that's really cool, it means I can't really rate the character because there's a million different versions of him. There's also interpretations where he's the antagonist to Lancelot and Guinevere's Whole Deal because I guess it's easier to excuse cheating by twisting the cheated-on character into a jackass. Just make it polyamorous you COWARDS

Sir Lancelot: 9/10 Fundamentally changed the entire canon and story. He's been awarded with the 'Most Accidental Teamkills' award and was voted 'Biggest Drama Queen in Camelot' 7 years running. He's inherently funny as a concept as the world's most popular OC do not steal, doubly funny taking into account that he also caused what I suspect to be the first instance of Vriscourse-esque fandom drama. Legendary. Also he's bisexual and if you give me like a week in The Hole I think that I can find pre-internet sources for this.

Sir Kay: 9/10 Unfortunately overlooked in later works considering he's A) King Arthur's adopted brother B) Funnie and C) A good foil to a lot of the other characters. He's a hothead, bully, braggart, and a jokey kind of guy with more pride than sense that's usually there to get his shit kicked in a bit. A good chunk of knights also have him talking shit at them as their entire motivation for going off on a grand quest. They can't put him in gritty reimaginings because he'd make them too much fun to read/watch. Though I DO admit that he has the potential to be very, very annoying if written poorly. I'd also like to note that he's avoided being made into a perfect-pure-special-Christian-boy-who-does-the-chivalry for over 2000 years and has maintained his shithead status. King.

The G Boys (Gawain, Gareth, aGravaine, and Gaheris): 6/10 I wish people would stop forgetting that Gaheris and Agravaine exist and/or mashing all four of these men into One Guy. I understand the irony of me giving them a shared entry but this is a long post and they're all brothers. It's nice that Gawain got some love recently with the 2021 movie Green Knight. And by love I mean good lord people were horny for Dev Patel. Also Gareth is canonically Baby. He is the ultimate Little Brother.

Sir Mordred: 10/10 MORGAN LE FAY IS NOT HIS MOM. Shoulders the whole final act of the legend as the antagonist. Let's be honest, he'd be a Tumblr sexyman if more people knew about him. He ticks all the boxes: Misunderstood, pale, dark hair, a bit evil, tragic backstory (incest), rebellious... Personally I'd love to see him break containment and take the Sexyman Crown he so rightfully deserves. Duck from Thomas the Tank Engine managed it, so I don't see why he can't.

Sir Bedivere (Bedwyr if you're a REAL gamer): 10/10 I do not CARE if I am biased. This man is my BLORBO. He HAS BEEN since I was FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. And I am VERY UPSET that the most common spelling of his name is borderline un-google-able because of the Fate Series. I am ASSAULTED by mildly horny images of anime men that I wasn't looking for. I was LOOKING for scraggly Welshmen. It's like accidentally taking a sip of someone else's drink. I wanted COKE not TEA dammit. At least they remembered that he has a prosthetic hand. He and Arthur possess the only braincell in Camelot.

Sir Griflet: 10/10 This guy is functionally a different character from who he initially was. Who did he used to be, you ask? Nothing big, nothing important just a minor welsh faerie deity. I don't know how he got added to the canon but I'm glad he did. Now he's Bedivere and Lucan's cousin and sometimes trades places with Bedivere as the last survivor of the final battle who chucks Excalibur into the lake. I like to think of him as a faerie who just showed up, convinced Bedivere and Lucan that he's their cousin, and hangs around Camelot because he finds it all interesting. Lastly: He has like... a hundred different names.

Sir Tristan: 6/10 Look his whole deal is that he's sad. Not sad as in like... pathetic but experiencing the emotion of sadness. That is what he's known for. His name is SYNONYMOUS with being sad. The ORIGINAL Sadboy. He would have an emo cut with those weird checkerboard streaks if he lived in 2007.

Sir Galahad: 0/10 The most inherently funny character in the canon. He was invented as a middle finger to Lancelot. He EXISTS because people were mad at Lancelot. He is THE purest HOLIEST mostest special boy. We're talking 'angels come down to take him away to Heaven' special. The only reason that he's a 0/10 is because I am mad that he steals Percival's role in a lot of stuff or gets mashed with him to form a Dragon Ball Fusion.

Sir Percival: 9/10 To be perfectly honest I only like this guy as much as I do because he has the coolest name out of all the knights. He's a pretty generic 'super cool and special and handsome and chivalrous' sort of knight... But I do not care. He has a cool name and I vibe with the aesthetic it conjures in my brain whenever I read it. I'm not alone in this based on all the adventures he was given until they got given to Galahad which sort of implies that he's the blueprint for the 'godly and virtuous knight who does chivalry'.

Sir Dagonet: 10/10 This guy is great and I'm pretty sure he was almost a meme a few years back??? I just remember getting blindsided by seeing a bunch of tumblr posts about him a few years back. He started his existence as just an asshole braggart who existed to make some of the other knights look better, then a violent, bloodthirsty crazy guy, and now he's a beloved jester who got knighted. I'm a fan of the jester interpretation myself because good lord there's enough 'violent man accidentally murders people' guys running around and Kay covers the 'braggart asshole foil' role in a less obnoxious way. I imagine him with silly little jester bells tied to his armor whenever he goes out on quests.

A Highly Unusual Job

(From the perspective of my character, Rocket.)

"I am a very experienced mercenary for hire. Name a job and I'm certain that I've done it more than twice. I've killed every type of person you could think of and then some. I've even slain some demon lords. That's why I've attained a certain reputation around the mercenary guilds as a man who shouldn't be trifled with. I've even gotten to know the guild masters on a first name basis. So, when a special quest comes in from the guild master to me, you'd better believe that I am going to accept it."

(Back to the real world)

A man walks through the doors of the local mercenary guild and struts on over to the guild master.

"Rocket, it's good to see you.", said the guild master.

"It's good to see you too. Now, about that quest."

"Oh, yes. It's a very special quest. Right here on this counter are two very important 'packages' that you'll need to transport to a far off country."

"Not very unusual for me to do. Also, when you said 'packages', you meant people, right?"

"Not exactly."

The guild master lifted the covers off of what Rocket assumed to be two small cradles and revealed to Rocket what the "packages" were. Inside each cradle was a small baby demon.

"You're kidding, right?", Rocket asked the guild master with a feigned laugh.

"I'm not kidding. The father of these two little ones is willing to pay you good money to transport them to him."

"Listen, I don't work with children. Especially, if their demon spawn-"

"A million gold."

"What?"

"The father is willing to pay you a million gold."

Rocket made an exasperated sigh.

"Fine, you've got me."

"He also requested that you come along accompanied by the aid of a female guild member."

Rocket sighed deeply.

"Tell me this. Where the hell am I supposed to find another guild member around this godforsaken dump of a town, let alone a female one?"

The guild master shrugged and Rocket sighed loudly before he placed his head on the counter.

That's exactly when somebody who met that exact criteria walked into the mercenary guild. (AKA your character.)

Toby hadn't been faring very well with his mental health after his brother's death... He had forgotten to eat properly for 3 days, and his hair was a mess. On top of that, there were heavy bags under his eyes. He needed someone, anyone, to help him out... Maybe the book on dark magic and demon summoning he had in his bookshelf could help him out.

The book was old and covered in dust. As Toby flipped through the pages, one thing caught his eye. It was about ink demons and how to summon them.

The more she listens to is-Velvet-not-Eleanor, Edna isn't quite sure if she should be embarrassed that her brother spoke of her like that—but she eventually decides to simply be happy. After all, she knows his curse is a touchy subject with her, and even if Velvet hadn't told her about it, Edna still knows Eizen was always very careful with her. He has always kept her safe, he has always tried to be there without really being there, he is always her brother, he is always her most important person: she's content enough remembering these things.

❛  ...Thanks,  ❜ she finally says. The fact that his friends know just how much they matter to each other is all she can ask for. It's how she knows Onii-chan found some trustworthy people to be with, no matter how strange it is for her to acknowledge that. He did say he was a pirate, so she wasn't too sure about what sorts of people he hangs around with. He also said she's the Lord of Calamity, but the more they talk, the more Edna feels like this title is strange for Velvet. She's way, way different than Kittybeard. Someone who willingly tells her that her older brother cares about her cannot be a truly blackhearted person. Velvet is all right to her. Edna quips lightly, ❛  He might be annoyed at you for telling me this, though.  ❜

Looking at the mask in her hand, she feels her eyes softening a little fondly. ❛  You'd think he's the mature one, but sometimes I had to tell him to calm down because he's too busy geeking out over something. It must not be boring when you guys travel.  ❜ Sorey and Meebo certainly liven things up for her with their many geek-fests even though she tunes them out. All three of them would get along, she thinks. 

Edna regards her thoughtfully, but is unable to view Velvet as someone like Kittybeard. The title might've been butchered as time evolved. ❛  I came here not knowing you were here, but it's true I'm curious about who my brother aligned himself with. The letters were a little vague—  ❜ As if he didn't want her to know something. ❛  —but when I saw him the other day, he said you could be quite angry, that you were the Lord of Calamity.  ❜ And because Velvet has not lied to her, Edna continues, ❛  But he told me of the cause you were fighting for; and even though you had your moments, he said you were also kind.  ❜

After a beat, Edna gives her a meaningful look. ❛  He can be a pain sometimes, but he's not one to go back on his word, and he's really good at worrying. Looks like you're stuck with him for a while longer.  ❜ Please look after him for me, her eyes say. This is already too much sentimentality for her liking, so she adds, on a more whimsical note, ❛  I remember one of the gifts he sent me was a weird clay pot wrapped in sunflower-print paper. The only question I have is if you know where he got that from.  ❜

"Yeah," Velvet answered. At least Edna hadn't jumped on her for the admittedly rude way of beginning the conversation. "I'm Velvet. Good to finally meet the sister he cares about so much." Enough to go on a ridiculous quest to not only obtain Nor dolls, but also fight a pain in the ass like Phoenix. That much had been a real hassle, and she had hoped Eizen was just grateful they hadn't made him do it all on his own.

Unsurprisingly, the earth malak inquired further about what all Eizen had told them about her. It made sense. Siblings who didn't get to be together all the time probably would wonder about what the other said in their absence. Well, Velvet wasn't about to just leave her in the dark.

"He didn't talk about you often. Just when it happened to come up in conversation," Velvet admitted, "but he told us about how his sister was smart and empathetic. And willing to live alongside him, no matter the danger." That hadn't stopped Eizen from finding his life out at sea, but she was sure Edna had figured out that much. Based on the fact Velvet could see a familiar little orange normin attached to Edna's umbrella, too, it looked like the gift was still something that meant a good deal. Or something to that effect.

She adjusted her own mask on the side of her face, a black mask resembling a crow, and gave Edna another look over. She certainly was small compared to Eizen, but it wasn't something she was going to comment on. Instead...

"He described you as something along the lines of an early blooming flower. Even said sometimes you had to treat him like he was the kid when you were together," she said. So far, what Velvet had seen seemed accurate to what Eizen had told her. Edna had a sort of elegance about her that seemed beyond her physical appearance. She also had to have been brave to some degree. Especially waltzing up to the Lord of Calamity like that.

"And since you're here, I'm guessing you wanted to meet the ones he associates with," she concluded. It was a simple enough conclusion. Either that, or it was coincidence the two of them had met at the festival like this. Spring Rise was a big place, after all. People were bound to meet.

She couldn't help but wonder, though. Eizen had mentioned getting a letter from Edna in response to him telling her about them. What did Edna think of her? She remembered Eizen had said that Edna's response made it seem like she'd been amused by them, said they were fitting for him, but had Eizen mentioned her status? What the Abbey and the world called her?

"I'm not sure what Eizen's told you about me specifically. I won't object if you have questions."

In which Lucerys Velaryon confessed his sorrow to his older sister before he went to Storm's Ends.

For Prince Lucerys Velaryon, his older sister, Princess Y/N Velaryon is the best. She is perfect, she knows how to use weapons such as sword and bows, she knows how to sew and dancing, she's smart, she's capable in everything, most importantly, she's the splitting image of their mother with the humor of their father.

From young age, Lucerys idolized his sister more than he did to Jacaerys. That's why, when he became the envoy for his mother to bring the words to Lord Baratheon, he became nervous.

Lucerys passed around, his robes pulled, anxiety creeping in him, he was nervous and most importantly, he was scared.

"how are you doing, brother?" a feminime voice startled him, he jumped and rotated his body, his dark eyes found the familiar silver hair that kept into a perfect bride, as always,

"i'm looking for my blade." he said quickly, Y/N smiled and took the blade in the table and gave it to him,

"here..." Lucerys gulped and took a shaky breath, Y/N clasped her hand in his, "are you feeling well?"

"i-i think... So...?" he answered shakily making her smile,

"it's ok to feel nervous, Luke. After all, you carry a very important job. And if it's help you then i think you are so brave."

Lucerys shaken his head, "i don't think i'm brave at all, sister. For example, look at me now, i'm scared. What if i ruined this for mother?" Y/N narrowed her eyes, her hands cup Lucerys's face,

"that's nonesense, i think you will do an exceptional job at carrying a message to Lord Baratheon."

"but i'm not like you, sister..."

"what do you mean?"

"i'm not perfect like you."

A peaceful smile rose in her face, she rubbed Lucerys's dark hair, "if you think i am perfect then you are so wrong."

"but you do!" he interjected, "you're beautiful, intelligent and brave... While me... I'm just me..."

"you are not just you.." she quickly said, "in fact, i'm jealous of you."

"you are jealous of me?!" Lucerys couldn't believe it, his perfect older sister, the future heir to the throne is jealous of him? Why?

"i do." Y/N nodded, "you are so brave, you are good and you are wise beyond your years. I don't know what you think but for me, i'm so proud for calling you my brother. In fact, i don't know why Gods are so good for they graced me with amazing brothers like you, Jace and Joff, and now with Aegon and Viserys and our unborn sibling."

"how could you ever think like that? You are so perfect!" Lucerys seemed could not believe his sister, but Y/N smiled at him,

"i am not perfect. I have a lot of flaws and i'm not a good person, i did a lot of bad things in my life, but when i remember that i can call you my little brother, a small part of me think that maybe i'm not so bad for Gods to decided to blessed me with you."

Lucerys fought the tears in his eye, he quickly pulled his sister into a hug, "i love you sister!"

"i love you too, my sweet boy."

Then he pulled, he brushed the tears, "i'm going and i promise to make you and mother proud!"

Y/N grinned, "you already making me so proud, sweet boy." and then placed a kiss in his forehead, "when you come back, i will be ready with the lemon cakes and your favorite milk. We are going to have a picnic, just the two of us, yeah?"

Theu go outside to the pit.

Lucerys nods, and he bidded farewel to his sister and mount Arrax, "see you around, sister, don't forget my lemon cakes!"

"see you, brother!"

Her young brother Lucerys went but never came back.

Okay, so I prefer Daeron as Luthien's brother not because I'm opposed to his being in love with her, but because I adore the idea of Daeron taking after Thingol in many ways, and being less beloved for the damning character flaw of not being Melian 2.0 like his sister. But I'll ignore that and focus on the published Silm, because that is also a very good story in a completely different way.

There's something incredibly... pure? is maybe the right word,,,, about Daeron. I can name several cases in Tolkien where a man is in love with a woman who doesn't love him back, but I can think of no other where the woman actually thinks "Of every person I know, this is who I trust most when I need help." And Luthien isn't wrong to trust him? Other than denying her agency, which is admittedly a horrible thing to do, I have a hard time condemning Daeron? I don't know that I would want anyone I love marching straight to the Dark Lord for a person who is going to die anyway, be it in a few minutes or in a few years. Hell, Beren also doesn't Luthien to leave Doriath, he just underestimates her stubbornness and courage, which is not very surprising - between Daeron and Beren, the one who's known Luthien all her life is Daeron, after all.

The thing for me is that Daeron is out there being the best minstrel ever and a loremaster and a linguist and well-regarded in the fairest realm of Beleriand and Luthien's closest friend. This is definitely an uncommonly talented and socially powerful elf. If he had to """fall""", you'd expect it to be out of pride or something of that sort - we've read that story a thousand times in the Silm by the time Daeron becomes important. But his fall is actually a matter of either heartbreak or fearing for Luthien's fate.

I wouldn't even say Daeron falls as much as he... makes mistakes? I don't get the vibe of him having ruined any lives besides his own, and even that is debatable - after Beren comes into the picture, is there a possible happy ending Daeron can get? Maybe if he died for Luthien's sake he might have been happy-ish in Valinor, but that's pretty much it. (Here's a fun little au to ponder: Sauron vs Daeron)

The story very much identifies itself with Luthien, so Daeron comes across as a jealous, untrustworthy, controlling Nice Guy™️ but the couple of things he does in this one story shouldn't overshadow the centuries of him being, as far as we can tell, a genuinely great guy. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not an apologist, I don't take betrayal lightly, but for me that's what's interesting. A lot of Silm character tend to come in the flavors Basically Very Good and Basically Very Bad, with a few You're Doing Your Best But Things Aren't Looking Too Good. I literally don't know where Daeron fits into this. I try to find other characters who are remarkably good, mess up for ONE (01) story and then immediately regret everything and lament forever, and I just can't? Daeron speedruns Maglor's character arc, which is bizarre because Maglor's arc is all about living on and on and on.

I also think it's very telling that Tolkien says he wanders seeking Luthien "in despair." Is it just me who finds that a surprising word choice? He's not angry or bitter or even in pain, he's in despair. Even for an elf in unrequited love, that's pretty intense. It doesn't sound at all to me like we're meant to treat Daeron being in love as a mistake on his part, or as possessiveness. It sounds pretty legitimate, imho? Like I keep saying, for all that he's immortalized as the embodiment of betrayal, Daeron seems pretty damn sincere.

And finally, it isn't really connected to what I was saying but I find this pretty neat

But seeking for Lúthien in despair he wandered upon strange paths, and passing over the mountains he came into the East of Middle-earth, where for many ages he made lament beside dark waters for Lúthien, daughter of Thingol, most beautiful of all living things.

I get so emotional thinking about how Daeron ultimately lives out the rest of his days offering Luthien one of the few things Beren can't give her, one of the few things that can make the loss of eternity less bitter. And!!! Daeron does that unseen by Luthien. Because she is with Beren. Which is exactly how this entire story began. Like, the parallels, I'm going to s c r e a m.

here we go, soft thoughts on the boys but i'm going to omit sam for right now because I refuse to process all this information until i'm off work and have the brainpower to look through everything

Personally, I feel like Josh is very cuddly, especially at night time. When he comes home from tours that you didn't go on, he would wrap himself around you and absolutely not let you go. He's always near you, talking to you, or thinking about being with you. You are his muse, the light in his life.

Jake is the kind of guy to want his space, but when he doesn't, you better get ready because he's all over you like cheese on pizza. When you're sick, he's never leaving you, he is the most caring guy you'll ever know honestly. He'd build blanket forts with you, he'd try to bake you brownies or something and get too distracted and burn them but it's the thought that counts ;)

Danny is naturally the most quiet but not with you, when he's with you, he can come out of his shell and ramble for hours about everything and nothing. He loves to tell you how beautiful you are, how good you are to him and he only hopes he can be half as good to you. He finds himself sitting up after you've fallen asleep, just to watch your eyelashes flutter as you dream, rubbing his thumb on your face softly.

Lord take me away I just want to lay with these boys in a big blanket pile and watch movies oh my gosh

Josh would 100% be a clingy partner. Especially if he has been away on tour or recording for long, extended periods of time. He will fight you, tooth and nail to get you to stay in bed, or let him come with you to the store down the road. It could be a little overwhelming at times, but it's Josh, you love him regardless. While you're in his arms, he'd whisper sweet nothings in your ears, and place soft kisses anywhere he possibly can.

I can see Jake mostly wanting his space when he is in a specific kind of mindset that happens while he’s trying to remember the lyrics he was thinking of, stressing about recording or trying to come up with some new riffs. he’s not quite like his brother, but Jake can be pretty needy as well just in more subtle ways. Instead of clinging to you like a koala, he’ll pull your feet into hair lap, his hand gripping your thigh in the car or under tables, and when you’re asleep on him, he’ll sit and brush your hair away from your face.

When Danny is around someone he knows is important to him, he will constantly be wanting some form of contact with you. He’d always come home and tell you everything about what had happened in the studio that day or show you pictures from places the guys had visited on tour. He’d be the one to do very subtle touches. Slight hip brushes when passing you, tapping your ass to signal you needed to scoot out of the way, playing with your hair casually while watching a new movie together.

Immediate thoughts on Bridgerton, Season 2, Episode 8 ("The Viscount Who Loved Me") below the cut!

I'm a simple girl. All I want is for a man in regency costume to carry me through the rain after I have been in an accident, while I like semi-conscious in his arms. Is that too much to ask?

I'm loving this frantic, scared, overprotective Anthony bursting into Lady Danbury's home, barking out orders, and having the doctor snap at him. It's like the post-carriage accident scene in the book where one of the THREE doctors Anthony summons is like "where'd you get your medical degree, my lord?" Benedict is a good brother for coming to see how Anthony and Kate are doing when he got word something had happened. With Edwina sobbing in Mary's arms, I'm sure this will be the final push for her to make amends with Kate.

Colin seems to have the theory that Eloise is Lady Whistledown. He had this theory in the books, too. Just not until his book.

Anthony is scared and upset about the Kate situation and snapping at everyone. Most of his family seem to either be brushing him off and not taking him seriously, but I hope most of them clear out because they just want to give him some space.

The Will Mondrich side plot has been the weakest of the season in my opinion. But Will's a good guy that just wants to provide for his family and look out for people he respects like the Bridgertons. So I'm a little mad that Colin brushes him off and insults him so quickly.

Kate's awake! And they all tried so hard to avoid Kate's question about whether or not Anthony came to see her. She's heartbroken over it, you can tell.

Anthony crying in relief over Kate finally waking up. It brings back how Daphne recalled that he didn't weep over their father even once. Anthony was preparing for the worst with Kate's accident and now all those emotions have just flooded out of him. Violet's going to have a great mother speech with every season, isn't she? Good, because her children need it.

No! Benedict already feels so insecure about his art in the show and the books! And now he's found out that Anthony put in a large donation to the academy to get him a spot.

Anthony brought pink roses to Kate, Mary, and Edwina at the art gallery, and now he's bringing Kate a bouquet of TULIPS. I'm loving all the nods to the book. He's PROPOSING!

Kate thinks he's proposing out of obligation because of what happened between them. But he's not sorry that it HAPPENED. He's just sorry that he didn't make things official between them before things happened. He called her Kate again!

Kate's still hell-bent on returning to India.

"You are running away." This season may not have focused so much on Kate and Anthony's TRAUMAS but it did focus a lot on the INSECURITIES that were brought on by those traumas.

Eloise breaks things off with Theo. In another lifetime, when there isn't so much importance attached to being seen with the right people, they could have worked out.

Kate and Edwina have finally made up! They're finally able to calmly discuss things now. Edwina saying how she realized that she didn't know Kate and nor does Kate know herself. She wants to know who Kate really is.

"I am DONE with playing a part!" What did I tell you all? This whole flipping season? I said Edwina was playing a part. I said she had to find her own voice and reclaim her own agency. I was RIGHT.

Benedict and Eloise on the swings again. "That does not mean you would not have been accepted on your own." Yes, Eloise, that is what Benedict needs to hear.

This father/son moment between Anthony and Gregory is sweet. Anthony admits his faults with, "Your Latin tutor does not think you're stupid. He thinks I'm frightening. I ask too much of him and of you and of everyone, really." So Anthony is definitely that person at parent/teacher meetings where the teacher walks away crying, yes?

The two of them bond over Edmund since Gregory has no memory of him and Anthony has the most.

"Kate. I hope your return to India is not because of some eagerness to flee what is difficult." Mary struck a nerve with Kate. Especially since Anthony said something very similar with his proposal.

Kate's actions were motivated by her feeling like she owed Mary for taking her in and she had to earn her place in the family. Exactly what I had been saying before when I noticed that Kate seems to feel like an outsider in her own family.

Lol at Kate accidentally letting it slip to Mary that she and Anthony had had a moment. She still thinks Anthony doesn't love her! Kate, honey. Anthony definitely loves you, alright? Go to the ball.

Benedict being a good big brother.

This is the first time I've seen Penelope's hair completely up instead of partially down like it normally is.

OH SHIT. THAT LOOK ON ELOISE'S FACE. SHE JUST FIGURED IT OUT.

Sharma sisters dancing together is a delight.

Ugh, Colin, why are you dancing with Cressida? Did your mother force you to? Penelope looks upset by it.

Oh, shit, Colin! Look at you being all sneaky. You're not as dumb as I thought you might be. Have you figured things out?

YES! COLIN FIGURED IT OUT! He's quicker on his feet than Cousin Jack when caught alone in a room with a Featherington. Colin dressing down the slimy cousin for taking advantage of the Featherington ladies without a husband or a father to protect them while he is protecting them himself is just-*Swoon!*

Cousin Jack you slimy sack of shit. Portia, do your thing and protect your daughters. I know your actions are misguided, but you do them to protect your daughters. Change course and protect them now.

Colin and Penelope dancing together and saying "I will always look after you, Penelope. You are special to me." "As are you. To me." They have come a LONG way this season. Is Colin getting closer to realizing how much he cares for Penelope?

Edwina's not letting Kate run away from her feelings for Anthony anymore. She also let Kate know in a subtle way that any feelings Edwina might have felt for Anthony are no longer a concern when she tells Kate that she shouldn't try to avoid Anthony "on my account."

Anthony feeling a little gun-shy now, but Kate's reaching out to him for once.

Anthony being a little smartass to Kate with him holding up his fingers is pretty damn cute.

"Are you going to ask me to dance? One last time?"

"Are you ever going to say yes?"

Callback to "Can't you ever just agree?"

The entire ton is staring at them and whispering to each other and all the couples are giving them the snub by walking off the dance floor. Kate's getting self-conscious again but Anthony tells her to just look at him. "No one else matters." You're damn right no one else matters.

And in a last-minute plot twist, Queen Charlotte becomes a Kanthony shipper and squashes the whispers of scandal in an instant. "That wedding didn't happen, simply because I changed my mind."

Edwina comes in with the assist. "I think they look beautiful together." And the combined efforts of the Queen and The Diamond restores the Bridgerton-Sharma reputations and everyone knows that if they don't ship Kanthony, they're doomed.

I absolutely CACKLED, I mean CACKLED, at the mention of Prince Friedrich.

Well, crap. This could not have gone worse for Penelope and Eloise. First of all, Penelope gaslighting Eloise for a bit there. I know you're trying to protect your secret but I think at this point you know the cat's out of the bag.

I agree that Penelope was caught between a rock and a hard place with Eloise and that destroying her was the only way to "save her." Eloise, rightly, points out that the only person Penelope was interested in saving was herself. Penelope did have the option to tell the Queen who Whistledown really was. But I also think that the Queen likely would not have believed Penelope had she tried to confess. She probably would have thought it was a misguided attempt to save a friend.

Penelope gave up Whistledown for Eloise.

Eloise and Penelope are really lashing out at each other now. They are both living the life that the other wishes they could live. Penelope lives the life of a wallflower, but she shares her opinions, people care about her opinions, and people pay to hear about her opinions. Eloise wants that freedom-financial and otherwise-that Whistledown has.

Meanwhile, Eloise has the right family, clothes, money, and connections for an infinite amount of opportunities and choices. But Eloise blows a lot of hot air about her about taking action without actually taking any action. It reminds me of her book where she says something along the lines of "I was sick of waiting for my life to happen to me" to Anthony.

Portia is an interesting character. She makes morally gray choices, she's manipulative at times, and overbearing at others. But she will do what she has to do to protect her daughters.

"You are cruel."

"I am a MOTHER."

MIC DROP, PORTIA!

COLIN! NO! NOOOOOOOOOO! I TAKE BACK WHAT I SAID! YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

Are these the same assholes from the first episode that made Anthony say the things that made Kate hate him so much. This is worse than the book. In An Offer From A Gentleman, Colin says that he'll never marry Penelope to only his brothers and Penelope just happens to overhear. Here, he said it to a gaggle of strangers and now that will definitely get around to the rest of the ton, even if Lady Whistledown doesn't report on it.

Benedict recognizes Anthony's donation as a misguided action to help. Anthony telling him that he's talented at painting. I hope they get some more brotherly moments in Benedict's season.

And we finally get the love confession and a second proposal. This is what I like better about the show than the book. In the book, Kate was sure that Anthony only married her because they had been caught in a compromising position. That he only married her because he had been forced to do so. Kate spent her entire life and her entire season being overlooked, ignored, or derided in favor of Edwina. She didn't feel like anybody actually wanted her or like anybody would actually choose her. But Anthony chose Kate. And Kate chose Anthony back. They're both putting aside their fears and their insecurities and going after something they truly want.

And her real name is Kathani!

Penelope picking up that Lady Whistledown pen again. That'll be interesting to see how that pans out next season.

Seriously, Anthony has never been this happy and giggly for the entirety of the show so far. Neither has Kate. They're no longer playing roles. They're being their true selves.

Well, i was pretty mad and confused. I literally just been brought into an unknown place all of the sudden without me knowing anything about it, so yeah i think it would be pretty self explanatory.

25. Do you like the Devildom?

Yeah i like it! I've never got the chance to travel outside Italy and this was an experience.

26: name three pros and cons about the Devildom.

Ok so, the pros are my friends, Madame Scream and the never changing weather. The cons are the lack of sunlight, humans need it, since i got here i get sick easily because of it, the constant danger of someone attacking me and the constant need of someone with me everywhere i go.

They're cool.

28. What do you think about lord Diavolo?

Well, he's really nice and i love how open minded he is. It's a very important thing to have if you're in an important role such as his. I also think he's a really cool person to hang out with!

He's really hardworking, he does a great job as a butler and his cooking is amazing. He's very polite and calm.

30. What about the brothers?

We had our up and down a but i love them, they're like family to me. Well, all of them actually, not only the brothers, the other exchange students, lord Diavolo Barbatos are included as well.

One word. Chaos.

Every day someone is on some bs (me included) and at times i feel more of a baby sitter. Ironic since i'm a kid.

He's strict. Too strict, but he's not a bad person. He can be nice when he wants to.

He's the first demon i made a pact with, at first he was pretty rude but he's actually really funny. We hang out often.

He was also rude to me~! Lol, but anyway. He's a great friend and he gets the memes i send him. We watch anime togheter!

But he's actually a sweetheart, he really cares about his family and wants to see everyone happy. He's the literal definition of "gentle giant".

They're super cool! I love hanging out with them.

Luke is like a little brother to me, i care a lot about him. Simeon is always super nice to me and i like him, i like the relationship Luke and him have, it's really sweet.

He's cool! We don't get to spend much time togheter though... I kind of want him to teach me magic hahah! *Giggles*

43. Do you prefer humans, demons or angels?

I don't have a preference.

Yeah absolutely!

Well, there are quite a bit actually... If i had to choose one i'd say Gardaland, it's an amusement park in Italy.

46. Why is that?

I don't know, i feel like they would enjoy it as much as i do. I've been going there since i was a child and i never get tired of it, last time i went there it was like 3/4 before coming to the Devildom, so very recently.

47. Do you feel any sort of connection with this park?

I have a lot of happy memories there, so that's why i love that place so much. There's also a restaurant on the western area that makes an amazing pizza! I know the place by heart now hahah!
