i'm just so happy that i found people who loves qzgs to gush over together. and to spread all the fang rui love. so thank you for being so kind and welcoming! it took quite a lot of courage for me to finally ask to join the server, and participate actively. it's thanks to everyone in the discord.

are you asking the moon in autumn? it's still there, but only accessible for ao3 users since it's a long fic, and i do have concerns for data scraping for fanfictions. if let's start thinkin' bout it gets long enough, i might end up doing the same. i might only unlock them for few days when there's a new update.

now onto your questions!

i'm pretty sure it's due to the pandemic. since i started to read a lot of korean webtoons/manhwa that's almost always adapted from webnovels, i ended up reading a lot of them during that time (there was not much to do but stay at home after all). however, they were very rarely completed. oh the horror. so i looked for recommendations and there was quan zhi gao shou/the king's avatar on the list. it's highly rated and reviewed, and it's completed! even though it's chinese webnovel and not the genre i usually read (online games, more so professional gaming), so i gave it a try, and boy i'm so very glad i do. i'm hooked.

it has everything i love to read in a story: a smart, powerful protagonist; rich, complex characters and world; and a wonderful storytelling.

the only downside? i'm late to the the fandom. QAQ

i think we all love ye xiu, it's no brainer right? he's perfect but also imperfect at the same time. his strength in character and in his belief is so admirable that i sorely wish i had a fraction of it. but at the same time as a protag, we didn't see much from his perspective. so he's not the character i resonate with the most. definitely top three, but not the top. qiao yifan was my best boi then. i can relate with his struggle the most. and i love seeing him learning and growing under ye xiu's wings. from the transparent tiny herb player to the most stable, reliable happy rookie. i'm so looking forward to the person he'll be in the future.

then there's fang rui. he's overshadowed by huang shaotian at first. huang shaotian is so lively, so distinctive, so difficult to look away from. so at the beginning my top three was qiao yifan, ye xiu and huang shaotian.

only on my reread that fang rui finally caught my eye. at first, he and huang shaotian look so similar and differ greatly with other oh so serious captains and god-level players in that they are bright and lively, and they are open with their emotions. but i end up thinking twice at the latter. huang shaotian is an open book, fang rui is not.

wait, wait are we reading the same novel?

fang rui feels like an open book, because we have seen his own perspective, we've seen his thoughts and emotions. but whenever we've got outsiders' perspective on him, fang rui is always playful even he performs badly. if anything, he acts out, hams it up, just like when he miscommunicated with mo fan or when he lost so badly that he sat in the corner to reflect. when he's troubled, most often he closes up, just like when lin jingyan approached him when tyranny dropped by or when he was so tired after taking on zhou zekai and lu boyuan in his bad condition.

meanwhile, huang shaotian can put up a public persona like the celebrity he is, but overall he doesn't really bother to hide how he feels, just like when he didn't want to talk after he lost in the finals and when he questioned yu feng after he went to hundred blossoms (even he got the first turn in beating up liu hao lol). in summary, huang shaotian is the real open book. we can count on him for being honest, and also being loyal. while at the same time, he's such an stealthy assassin and deadly opportunist on stage. it makes him such an appealing character and a favorite among the fandom.

but for me, the complexity and contrast of fang rui really caught my eye. that there's more to him that it meets the eye. which is admittedly my favorite type of character. it shows that he has an exceptional emotional intelligence, he understands emotions, his own and others, and he doesn't shy away from it, more so, he owns it. i have admiration for calm and composed characters, but i admire more those who obviously struggling with his emotions but still retain their calm and composure. and that fits fang rui to the t.

because damn, when we put it into context, fang rui has the hardest time in season 10. ye xiu (and qiao yifan) did have a hard time with their previous team, ye xiu can be also said as the reason for excellent era, his beloved team's demise. but the fans and later qiu fei gave him hope for the team to be reborn, then su mucheng joined him in happy, all he needs is to focus on the championship that he's back in the alliance. fang rui?

he has to leave his beloved team and account, then he transforms to a completely different class with a wholly new account, at the huge risk to himself, then he has to fight his former partner/mentor repeatedly until being the one to end lin jingyan's career. the latter feels dramatic, but considering how fang rui's performance is visibly affected by lin jingyan's decline, i'm not surprised if that's how it feels from his perspective. and yet... he gives himself the hardest time when he performs badly in the finals, for not giving his best for happy. he just wanted to return the trust given to him. even though he was exhausted, he still did his best to assure the team. i just... the moment i put things into perspective, i think fall in love right then and there, and there's no coming back from it.

so my current top three: fang rui, qiao yifan, and ye xiu.

i think there's a pattern right there. all three are happy. all three have transformed. all three have left their teams, not by choice. all have suffered rejections and come up victorious.

💖CRITICAL STEP before i do anything at all: surf pinterest for inspo!! 💞💕 it can be inspo for art styles, ideas, or just ~vibes~ (if that makes sense lol?? 😸) but ever since i started actually sorting my boards my feed has become a lot more colorful and cute and inspiring…! 😸😸 i especially like seeing all the unconventional art styles on there!! it’s where my cartoony-ish style originated from ( •ૢ⚈͒⌄⚈͒ •ૢ)💖💓🌸🌷🍃

sometimes i come across a post on twitter that i GOTTA manifest into a drawing, so even though twitter is very rancid and negative, it can be good! sorta!! but yeah i try to start out drawing with a solid idea of what i wanna do in mind, or else it’ll just end up being a generic right-facing 3/4 portrait LMAOoo…….. 🤠👍

❤️colors: generally i will give up after i have a sketch and slither off to binge horror novels, but RARELY i might proceed onto the coloring stage… i have this disorder in which i need to maximize the vibrancy of every pixel on my screen or i’ll Die. 🪦(ɷ ꒪ཀ꒪)ɷ for shadows, i rarely use black unless i reallyyy need to; i just do dark purple! 🦄💜🔮🪄 for highlights, i never go for pure white; usually it’s cream or neon yellow, but sometimes skin will have these little light green spots to stand out (this is actually a color theory thing i learned from oil painting… green vs. red!) 😸🍏🤝🍎😸

🧡overlay: i have at least 2 different layers set to overlay, so i can augment color vibrancy EVEN MORE and make things ✨glowy✨ like a 💥flash bomb💥!! on my first overlay layer, i go over dark colors with either dark brown or dark purple, set to a very very low opacity (practically transparent) to make things DRAMATIC, and then lose all my marbles on highlights at regular opacity!! my other overlay layer is for me to go crazy with the rosette brush, which looks like those comic book dotsies! ٩(๑′∀ ‵๑)۶•*¨*•.¸¸♪

💚touch-ups: after i’ve given up on my drawing and accepted that this is the most i can do, i proceed to do even more to it by slapping filters on it in picsart and picmonkey. my go-to filters in each app:

💙picsart: indie 2, usually set at 30% (it makes colors EVEN MORE NEON as if they weren’t eye-searing enough QAQ💧). i used to bypass their dumb af membership thing to access their gorgeousss glitch filter for my backgrounds, BUT THEY REMOVED THE ABILITY TO SCREENSHOT INSIDE THE APP so i hate picsart lol 😸🫶 indie 2 slaps fat cheeks tho

💜picmonkey: my true love!! they don’t hide their BEST FILTERS behind pretentious subscriptions 😁 okay i’ll stop complaining… 😁😁 so much Good Kush in this thing like lux, lightleak (makes things purple and glitchy!), splendor, lush…

For the character break down: Shark from Zexal

How I feel about this character: Shark is very endearing! He's such a tsundere, but with the power of Yūma, he reveals the soft and caring nature of his. QAQ He's the best school bully, lmao. I also enjoy his style and the fact that he rides a runner. (I'm sure people call it a motorcycle, but in my head, he's a big Turbo duel fan.) Yo, have you seen him smile? 🥺🥺🥺

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Yūma and Kite. I can get into fan stuff of him with either or, but in my head, all three are dating. You're just catching them at different times, lmaolololol.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Durbe.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Can't think of anything controversial because I don't see the ZEXAL tag often, but I guess it'll be that I love Shark's dub name. REGINALD KASTLES is one of the best dub names in YGO. I just love the unexpectedness and the jarring nature of the whole name. He sounds so regal, which makes sense because his family is wealth so I'm thinking old money. It's right up there in dub names with legends like CHAZZ PRINCETON and THEODORE HAMILTON. 😂

One thing I wish would happen/had happened to this character in canon: More quality time with Rio and/or the rest of the former Barians. I just want that slice of life, you know? Pretty please?

Uncanny Valley

You carefully weave the last arm onto the body of a new doll. Knotting the black thread and snipping off the excess with a pair of scissors. A smile on your face as you hold up your new creation at arms length and study it.

You hadn't meant for it to look like a certain someone. It had started with the eyes, you weren't the best at sewing details yet onto the dolls and had botched them at first, trying to fix them and work with what you had made until you liked them better. 

You were sure ever since your attempt to save the eyes, the face reminded you of him. Which was a funny thing to think about, because you weren't truly sure if he even had eyes, they may just be pools of black that wept some kind of black fluid for all you knew.

Yet, after that, you couldn't help leaning into the idea until its completion. A small doll with black hair curled up like horns with black eyes and lines running down its face.

It was late, even before manic inspiration had taken hold of you. You pick up your phone and groan at the sight of the clock. 

2:36 am

It could be worse really, you gather up your crochet hook and the yarns that had taken over your bed. Plunking them down in your nearby reading chair. 

"I will get to putting it away tomorrow–" You promise yourself, knowing full well the danger of settling things into improper homes.

You bow your back and stretch, looking back at your doll and glowing with pride.

You had a funny thought in the back of your head, scooping up the doll in your hands as you walked to turn off the light in your bedroom.

"Huh. . . worth a shot I guess,"

You tossed your blankets over enough to snuggle into bed, throwing them back over yourself once you had gotten settled. You rest on your back with the doll settled on your chest, staring up at the dark ceiling.

You're walking down a long hallway that seems to warp and jutter like an old damaged tape recording. Doors cutting into thin glitchy pieces before unscrambling and becoming whole again. The height of the hallway shifting, stretching and contorting. You rub your eyes with one hand and beam triumphantly to see you had brought the doll with you.

You were sort of getting the hang of this whole cheshire cat dream world logic!

Whatever strange dream you were having you mostly ignored it, walking down the hall and peering at the different doorways. Looking for one that didn't belong.

It wasn't hard to find.

You pause in front of a yawning door that had mountains of bright guttering candles on either side of the door frame. Wax spilling down and pooling  onto the floor. This door did not flicker or jump, and stood solid like an anchor in the shifting hall.

You smile and try the handle, which gives easily and swings open for you to step inside.

A gothic cathedral-like library greets you, with a high dark ceiling that seems to stretch on forever, and rows upon rows of dark books lining the shelves. There were even strange arranged book stacks that were built up from the floor along the nooks and crannies free from shelves. Towers of them, teetering high. Books upon tables, books on chairs. The library was bursting at the seams, and there were more of them than ever before.

You heard humming, and turning your feet towards the direction you followed the sound.  The soft melodious voice leading you forward until you reached a dead end. You look around the labyrinth of books and shelves scratching your head in wonder.

A person could really get lost in here–

"Boo."

You jump and whirl, uttering a sound of surprise. The voice so close to your ear you could feel someone's breath.

You rub at your ear and scowl crossly at the entity who grins and laces their fingers behind their back. A pair of black shined shoes stood in front of you, a tailored suit.

"Well hello there~" The collector hums at you, dark abyssal eyes staring transfixed without blinking. 

"Come to visit me?"

"I am beginning to think it was a mistake," You grumbled, hugging the doll to yourself.

The Collector chuckles with amusement, eyes crinkling in mirth. "Ah, but you are still here. . . aren't you? Perhaps you need my assistance?"

You shake your head, "No, no. I am good actually, I haven't been having any bad dreams." You clutch the doll, and you look away, "I have a gift, actually."

"Oh?"

The usual smooth amused voice had curiosity seeping into it. 

"And what might that be?"

You fidget with the doll in your hands, feeling suddenly silly. You step forward and hold the doll at arm's length. 

You stare at the black oxfords stopping in front of you, feeling long fingers gently take the doll from your grasp.

"I uhm– made it," You glance up to see the Collector studying it with rapt attention, before bowing their head, with the doll held between their hands.

". . . This is a very precious gift." They say softly, "I shall take good care of it."

You feel a rush of nervous relief and smile, looking up at him.

– 

You wake up to find the doll missing. And you check everywhere for it. Pulling apart your bed and throwing the blankets onto the floor. Even going on hands and knees armed with your phone in hand to search under the bed with its flashlight.

It. . . couldn't be gone right? But after checking the same places over and over again, even places in your room that you couldn't possibly have put it.

You felt an uneasy prickle run up the back of your neck. 

You knew the dream world was just that. . . dreams. But some strange impression made you feel that the doll you created the night before wasn't going to be found.

Thank you so much! and sure i can try haha What got me into it was actually some speed modeling videos from the channel Gus Guntherson on YT. Saw the low-poly models and thought "I wanna try that/ I can make that" and then went to learn it. For learning the ropes and keybinds and stuff ill recommend the usual tutorial of making a Donut in blender. Along with the tutorial "Blender for Beginners: Easy Froggy!". These both help super well with learning the basics and repeat themselves in the process. Cause when learning Blender - Repetition is key! Half the learning of the program is just learning to remember the keybinds haha.

If it's mainly character modeling you're interested in, I'd recommend to look up the process of making a VRChat model from scratch too! As they go through all the processes of making the model, texturing it, rigging it and making it ready to export for stuff like unity. Even if you don't want to make a model for that game, it's what helped me a lot to learn the whole process of making a 3D character, and also how to polish it too! Another little tip is watching some speed modeling videos of stuff you want to learn to make, gives you an idea how other people do it, and if they have any clever ways you can take into your own process/modeling! But else, if ya have any confusions at how to do certain stuff, Google and YouTube is your best buddy haha. I think that's just about what got me into it all and taught me the most. If you have any other questions regarding it feel free to ask away! :D

WY: Aish, but it doesn't matter now, forget it. (Qin Xian is the male lead, you're just a "lifeform" beyond humanity.)

Slime: Uf, X won't forget things. Does Human not like…the form of this shell?

Slime: (It's so warm being touched inside.)

WY: Are you a real fool or just faking it?

Slime: (Huh? Warmth?)

Slime: I can also change to other shapes: youth, middle-aged, old-aged, or if the gender's wrong…

Slime: (When was X able to feel things like warmth?)

Slime: Male, female, hermaphrodite, α (Alpha)...

WY: It's sounding more and more ridiculous. Please keep your current form and I'll tell you if I have any requirements.

WY: (My refusal sounded so uncertain!) *slaps self*

Angor n Avalon while just travelling through the "wilderness" n perhaps spotting an orchard, n Avalon being Avalon (you + extra spice) decides to get some apples bc good snacks. Except they can't reach, and get about 2 seconds into straining and looking for a different way before effortlessly being lifted up, two hands just. pretty much wrapping around their entire waist. Angor's not making a big deal of it bc obviously it's more efficient this way, but he does notice the hitched breath.

And then it just continues:

Small touches that start to linger.

An almost tumble and a steadying hand, fingers sprawled and hesitating just a moment before pulling away.

A leaf, carefully picked from hair, claws brushing past the scalp and very much noticing the shiver that elicits. The tilted head into the motion, the instinct to follow his palm as he moves away.

The Rituals™, as they continue, lingering in their conclusion, a knife against a throat, a daring lean against a trident, locked eyes and heavy breaths.

The growing reluctance of pulling away. Of falling back into distance, when it's so easy to close it. Never explicitly addressed, but privately acknowledged - walking closer to each other, shoulder bumping into an arm, or a hand brushing against one. Sitting closer to each other during moments of rest. Watchful eyes guarding sleep, no longer from across a fire, but right there, next to Avalon.

Just growing physical closeness as they travel together, to match the growing emotional closeness <3

I've been coming back to this with such regularity but it never fails to gut punch me in the best way

those small touches, the way they linger the more positive responses are noticed. how they don't flinch away. how gentleness and roughness can exist around each other. both sides winding closer and closer in person QAQ my heaaaaaaart

Hey! Thanks so much, I had a great time writing these. Sorry for the slight unintended hiatus there!

Characters: Dazai Osamu, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, Nakajima Atsushi, Nakahara Chuuya

Warnings: Mentions of low self-esteem.

Dazai Osamu

As lazy and feckless as Dazai likes to pretend to be, mostly to fuck with Kunikida, he handles most matters in his life himself. He's independent to a fault—such as when he went off on his own during the Shibusawa incident. He's confident he can handle pretty much anything that comes up.

However, when he gets a sweet, caring s/o like you, he's going to soak up your attention like a sponge and milk it for all it's worth. Being doted on is a novelty for him. He loves it, loves you.

He's an observant bastard, so it won't take him long to notice if you're fussing over him to your own detriment.

You get so caught up making him bento for lunch that you don't make one of your own. You tend to him while he's sick, only to catch a cold yourself. You spend so long listening to him talk about the cases at work and the foibles of his colleagues that you don't get to tell him about your day. Etcetera.

Dazai's no martyr—he will let you fuss over him and pamper him like a king—but he's not a bastard. He's not going to let the most important person in his life run themselves down just to cater to his comfort. I'm not saying he's suddenly going to start acting like a domestic god, because this man shouldn't legally be allowed near a kitchen, but he'll whisk you out for dinner and manipulate Atsushi (sorry, Atsushi) into doing his housework so you come home to a nice, clean apartment.

Be prepared that you might have to dine and dash at whatever restaurant he's taken you to, since he's probably put it on someone else's tab—usually Kunikida or Chuuya's.

Nakahara Chuuya

Chuuya is so used to having to do everything for everyone else, that he literally got emotional (allegedly) the first time someone else did something for him without being asked. He's in a mild state of shock for the first few months of your relationship, constantly blinking like he's staring into direct sunlight. It takes a while before he's comfortable enough to bask in your love and attention.

That being said, I like to think he's sensitive to taking advantage of people. He still sees himself as a fixer, as the person responsible for taking care of his s/o and not the other way around.

In most relationships there is some mutual give and take, but this relationship is unbalanced because you're both givers in the extreme.

It might take him a while to be able to do anything about it. He works long hours as an executive for the Port Mafia. He can be gone for days, sometimes weeks, and when he comes home it's all too easy to let you comfort and care for him. He cherishes it, but guilt still nags at him when he sees you neglecting your own needs.

"You don't have to do all this for me, doll. Not that I don't appreciate it and all!"

"But I want to!"

"...damn it, don't look at me like that. You're so fuckin' cute..."

He reciprocates however he can. He doesn't always have the time or energy to reciprocate the exact things you do for him, but he will make your life easier in every way he can. It might sound a little dismissive to say he throws money at your problems, but he can cut through a lot of red tape in your life and make sure you have the best of everything. Acts of service are your love language, and gift giving is his. I think once you both understand that, it's easier to find some kind of equilibrium.

Akutagawa Ryuunosuke

There's a running theme with these little waifs—Akutagawa is not used to anyone trying to take care of him. Quite the opposite in fact. Even with Gin, he is the one trying to look after his younger sister.

Ryuunosuke treats your initial attempts to look after him with suspicion, then scorn. He's not a child, he doesn't need you fussing over him...but there's something irresistible about your continued efforts to make his life a little easier, his day a little brighter.

Even a plant that's been withering in the dark for god knows how long will grow when you put it in sunlight. He loses some of his rough edges around you. Not all of them, because that's who he is, but enough that you know everything you do is appreciated.

He's slow to reciprocate, but only because he doesn't really know how. He tests the waters with getting you a small bunch of flowers, or a bar of the chocolate he knows you like. The smile on your face is enough to convince him to do it more often.

However, once he sees you're actually neglecting your own needs by looking after him, the anger returns. This time it's not scornful and defensive, it's downright irritated. He doesn't need you slaving away over him and neglecting your own health!

"What are you, a fool? If you do not sit down I will make you sit down, do you understand me?"

He means it lovingly, I swear.

Nakajima Atsushi

Oh, baby boyyy.

Listen, he's barely even gotten used to people being civil to him, let alone trying to look after him on a daily basis. Atsushi is an anxious mess. You're doing too much for him! He appreciates it but you don't need to go so far—is that a bento you made for him!?

He's practically in tears every time you do something nice for him, which is gratifying but also deeply sad, considering how basic some of the gestures are.

"You...you saved me some leftovers!?"

"Yes—are you crying?"

"No!"

While Atsushi doesn't have a baseline for normal in romantic relationships, he's incredibly anxious to make sure he's not doing anything that would drive you away or make him seem like a burden. So literally the second you do anything for him at an inconvenience for yourself, he's putting his foot down. You are not allowed to put yourself second. Ever.

This isn't just for your own sake, but Atsushi's too. It kind of knocks him for six that someone is putting themselves out just to cater to his needs but he wouldn't be able to enjoy it. He figures you've probably got some issues of your own that make you put yourself in second place in terms of importance, and he's determined he won't be another person taking advantage of your generosity.

And feeling like a burden would seriously make him hate himself, so he can't stomach that. He will be the fastest to notice and put a stop to it.
