*grumbles* i understand the physics that would lead to planes having a maximum safe landing weight
i do not understand the thought process behind not making that a plane's maximum weight period
#three cheers for thorough investigation#surely someone has considered#that there are a ton of reasons#why a plane might need to land#before having used up a significant amount of fuel#so why on earth would they make a plane too heavy to land safely#that is just an utterly unnecessary risk#yeah yeah you can put more cargo on there#but if anything happens#and you need to get down fast you're just fucked#and even if you have some time#you're just dumping fuel all over the countryside to get the weight down faster#and both of those are going to be far more expensive and potentially dangerous#than loading a little less cargo?#like even if you refuse to clean up the fuel you spilled all over everything#if you need to bring the plane down right the fuck now#that excess weight is going to cost you at the very least a perfectly serviceable plane#and quite possibly the life of the crew#and that is a best case scenario#more likely there's also going to be serious damage to whatever you're landing on#like how is that a sensible risk/reward balance
