Realized I was Not going to get the ask I'm working on answering finished today but still wanted to do at least some Peonyposting, so here's a drawing I did a while back commemorating her bond with [squints] her father's evil ex-wife.
...Yeeeah. Shockingly, they're close.
Hilariously, too, because Sectonia did not like Peony at first. In death she was stripped of her curse, but she's still a pretty emotional, vindictive and envious person. She's always had... mixed feelings about the whole 'Taranza and Susie thing.' On one hand, she's never truly been angry about it— ultimately she just wants Taranza to be happy, but it always... hurt her just a little to see him moving on, even if she knew it was selfish.
Peony's creation reopened those wounds. Joronia probably wouldn't have even ever wanted a kid, but it was about the principle of the thing, y'know? Getting to see someone else get to do yet another thing she'd never get to because she went mad and died young. It wasn't fair that she'd never get to have a family or belong anywhere.
Still, when Peony was on the brink of death, Sectonia helped save her, if only for Taranza's sake. And after that, Peony was enthralled. She wanted to know all about this mysterious, cool dead woman that she quickly reasoned out must have been her father's beloved 'friend who got sick and had to go away.'
Initially, Sectonia had no interest in even interacting with her, but with enough time and stubbornness the little brat somehow managed to worm her way into her heart.
What!? Don't look at Sectonia like that! She's not going soft. I- it's just Peony's smart! And talented! And nice! And she's her best friend's daughter! And-
...Well, truthfully Peony kind of reminds Sectonia of what she was like when she was younger?
Back before a judgemental society beat it out of her, Joronia was an overconfident, reckless, bold and daring kid. And she was happy. It's not fair that she was so thoroughly mistreated that she stopped believing in herself, and so she's not going to let the same thing happen to Peony.
This kid is the specialest girl in the whole wide world, and everyone's going to tell her that or die by Sectonia's blade. Okay? Okay.
In short:
Tumblr media
But... yeah. They're pals! And it's through Peony that Sectonia got the things she thought she'd never get to have. There is a place she belongs, and she does have a family.
Dead or not, nothing can change that.
