Darktail? He’s tricky to me since neither of his parents are described as having white.

Yes, it's quite annoying. He has a perfectly clear, recognisable and real cat color: black van. But vans almost always have homozygous wsws genotype, and there's no white spotting in sight on Darktail's family tree.

Well consider me a bit rebellious here, because my solution was. straight up adding white spotting to everyone. Darkstripe is black van, Smoke is blue smoke* bicolor, Onewhisker and his mother Wrenflight are black tabby bicolors. Then we've got back to the canon white spotted cats because Wrenflight got her white from Palebird. I headcanon Palebird as a homozygote (so she is called Pale because of all that white on her) anyway, so Wrenflight would've been white spotted to me even without this Darktail business.
