Congratulations! You were one of 100 chosen to continue to the televised callback stage.
This was something Kim Seokjin did not expect.
He had woken up as usual and followed his routine of checking his phone. When he had gotten to his emails stage, he was surprised to see an email from the mga staff. Expecting it to be a rejection, Jin casually opened the email and began reading it. The further he read, the more surprised and shocked he was. He had never expected to make it this far and now he was being invited to the next stage. The only thing was it was televised. Jin spends all his time in front of cameras, but this was something completely different. He quickly typed quick texts to those he thought he should tell, and he gave his grandmother a quick call. He ended the call with a small smile on his face. His grandmother always knew how to uplift him.
He continued about his day as usual and thought about what he could perform. It took him some time, but he finally decided on the perfect song.
D-Day was finally here, and Kim Seokjin was about to take one step closer to his dreams of being a rapper. The line was not as long, and the crowd was not as large as they had been at auditions. He was sure there were thousands that auditioned. This thought only made him feel even more shocked that he had made it this far. He did enter just for shits and giggles. He never expected to go through.
Inside, the chairs were set out to the side of the stage and a large table was placed in the centre. There were five chairs from what Jin could count, which meant there were going to be five judges. Interesting. Jin only really knew two people who were at the auditions; his sister, and Hoseok. There were a few people he knew by face or acquaintances, like Bella. Being a personality meant that he would collect himself an anti-fan or two, and one of those antis was also here. He had seen her outside. Hers was the performance he was waiting for the most.
The more people sat down, the more crowded everyone looked. He was just glad that he was sitting near Yena. The show started, and everyone seemed to focus on the stage. Jin sat back in his chair and placed his bent leg over his other thigh. He listened to whoever was talking. He had missed that part and now he had to go all show without a name. He didn’t care as he wouldn’t need to interact with the host. All he cared about was who was judging.
And what a shock that was.
When the five judges were revealed to be the CEOs of the five big companies, everyone seemed to have a big reaction. Some gasped, others had a hand over their mouths. Jin seemed to be the only one who remained relatively calm. He was starstruck by seeing Tiger JK, however. TRC was his dream company and always had been. Tiger JK was an idol and an influence.
Once everyone was settled again, the performances started. He felt kind of bad for those that were going first, as first sets the standard, and last, as everyone is tired and worn out. He only hoped that he could find himself in the middle somehow.
There were people from all over the world it seemed, and Jin was amazed at how many people had seemed to come from abroad. Growing up overseas sounded like an adventure that he was glad he did not partake in. he loved Korea and being Korean and wouldn’t trade it for the world. He listened to the introductions and he watched the performances, making sure to take notes as they went. There were a few Japanese contestants and one of them skated his way off the stage, which made Seokjin let out a snort of laughter. He shouldn’t be laughing but it was funny, and he didn’t care.
Kim Seokjin watched his sister with pride. She was the only one he paid his full and uttermost attention to, and the only one he cared about. He smiled as she danced and laughed softly at her introduction. He was like a proud dad watching his child perform. Except it wasn’t a child, but his sister. When she finished, he clapped loudly and cheered for her. Once she was back at her seat he informed her of how proud he was and of how well she did. There were a few more performances for him to sit through before it was his turn to shine, as they say.
❝ Kim Seokjin ❞
Of all the judges to call his name, his idol was the one to do it. Tiger JK had called out his name and he was frozen for a second in shock and awe. It took a moment for him to snap back to reality as he made his way onto the stage, facing the judges.
❝ Uh hello. I’m Kim Seokjin. You can call me Arrow. 24. Daegu born. I think that’s it? ❞ He shrugged and smiled slightly at the judges as he waited for his backing track to play.
Jin had decided to both rap and dance, while focusing on his rapping, as it was his strongest skill. He had chosen a fun song that is easy to dance to and fun to rap. It wasn’t the hardest rap song in the world, but it was fast enough to not detach from his technique when he danced. The music began, and he started off confidently.
I’ll run over to you with just one phone call, my number is 1988-0818 Let everyone you meet know, I’m the first class of the celebrity world Because I’m different, because that’s just me, because people go crazy over anything I do Because I create trends, because I change everything so this skill isn’t going anywhere
The verse wasn’t long nor too challenging, so he had seemingly breezed through it. What the rap lack in difficulty, he tried to make up for in his dance. His rapping was strong and confident, and his moves were clean and sharp. Being on a stage was nothing new to the rapper. He felt at home. It was almost like another night underground. Jin made sure to remain confident and keep a strong stage presence as he performed.
Get back, this isn’t a joke Young and rich, that’s just me So I’m fast, so what? It’s okay, are you joking right now? Cuz I’m not joking
This song had English parts which weren’t hard for him as he knew enough of the language to pronounce the words as best he could. He kept his dancing strong and free. He didn’t dance the entire time, he would also move around the stage as any rapper would do.
(Hello) Yes sir, one of a kind I’m a talented bear (no) more of a fox than a bear
(Hello hello hello) Yes sir, one of a kind I’m a douche, (wuh) I’m an expensive person (get out)
The chorus was easy and fun as he didn’t need to do the hello parts, so he could focus on his dancing. The moves in the chorus were fun and energetic.
This is already my second album, I don’t steal from empty homes My rap takes her to the bedroom and lays her down Yeah, I’m busy busy Money flowers bloom at my business
I don’t rest cuz my songs build buildings – (I love it)
Seokjin continued to behave like he does on any underground stage. He would walk from left to right or right to left while also moving his free hand. He would dance when he could without getting too distracted from his technique and breathing.
“This tiny guy tries to come on stage and stir things up But I don’t like it, it’s not pleasant to see I turn my head here and there and wherever I go, it’s his music His pictures are everywhere, even though he pretends he’s crazy, they can’t sell his stuff because they don’t have it”
You can’t live because of me?
He rapped faster this time, trying to show what he could do without rapping too fast. He still danced and his confidence grew.
Get back, this isn’t a joke, young and rich, that’s just me So I’m fast, so what? It’s okay, you think I’m joking? Cuz I’m not joking
Lalala please view me in a pretty way, don’t speak about me Lalala please accept me in a cute way, please love me
Seokjin ended on a high and he bowed before the judges. He thanked them and made his way off the stage. He was done, and he had some time before the interview, so the rapper set about finding himself a toilet. He’d been busting since they started, and his performance only made it worse.

[TRANS] YOONA ALLURE MAGAZINE (SEPTEMBER) INTERVIEW, credit @ch0sshi Sunday, on a quiet road in Hannam-dong. It was a day where it would rain for a moment before it slowly dried on the floor. The studio for the shoot was filled with flowers and artwork, but the most beautiful subject was, of course, Yoona. Walking through the studio filled with staff, Yoona and her character San from her drama 'The King Loves' seemed to overlap. "I think the light appearance of San early in the drama is a lot like my actual self. I think I appeared a bit more comfortable and most like myself." It was a Sunday with an afternoon where Yoona, who is good at performing on stage and acting, was only smiling beautifully. Q: It's Sunday today, so we should be able to watch 'The King Loves' tomorrow. Why did you pick this drama? YOONA: I always thought it would be difficult for me to attempt a historical drama, but San was a character that got rid of those thoughts. I felt that I could play it comfortably. Q: What part made you think that? Is it because San had the appearance of a modern female, even though it is a historical drama? YOONA: I think so. She's not passive, and the various ways she expresses emotions, I felt it could be a good experience for me. The story was fresh, and it felt a little different from other love triangles. Even though it contains some history in it, I liked that it had various emotions to express. Q: Historical dramas take a long time to get ready for, and there are lots of locations. How does it feel experiencing that? YOONA: It was a pre-recorded drama, because filming sites were so far from each other, there were times when we were tight on time. It took a long time to get ready, and, because I have to wear a wig all day, it felt like all my hair was going to fall out. (laughs) Q: It still feels like a sweet, youth romance, but I heard there will be strong emotions as the drama continues. How did you express the different emotions? YOONA: I thought, I hope I don't seem like a lead female role who is 'playing the field' to viewers. I worried the most about that part. I discussed it a lot with the writer as well, but I'm not sure how it will appear. It was a little confusing trying to act out the feelings for the opposite role. Q: Doesn't that kind of emotion fit with that type of situation? A bit ambiguous? YOONA: I think it's being expressed well so far. The script was good, so I just had to follow it. Q: It seemed like you got along well with Im Siwan, Hong Jonghyun, and other cast members. How was it filming? YOONA: We got really close. We're around the same age, and we comforted each other. We actually went around a lot like the 'Won San Rin trio' in the drama. I think we got closer faster because we always went around together from the start, and the oppas adored me so much that it was a set where I was liked a lot. Q: I think it would've been kind of unique as it was Im Siwan's last drama before enlisting in the army. YOONA: It was, he's probably really sad he had to go without watching it broadcast. The entire cast is close. Not just the three of us, but there's a group chat with almost 20 people. We have sudden meet ups often, and it was brought up that we should all visit Im Siwan at the army. I think we will once. Q: San tries to overcome the feelings she got in the process of losing her mother. Trying to find the truth. YOONA: I guess she's mature and bold. I think that's the kind of person she is. How hard must this character have tried to grow confidently, enduring difficult times. I thought a lot about how I should become gentle in appearance, but strong in spirit as well while acting as San. Q: How are you like? Are you actually like that? YOONA: I think so. I'm definitely more like that than I appear. Rather than being brave, I have a personality that endures things well. I feel that I need to become stronger and bigger on my own. Q: Musicians develop through performances, and movies/works for actors. I think the movie 'Confidential Assignment' is one that can't be left out when it comes to your acting. YOONA: 'Confidential Assignment' is something that brought me a lot of things. I think it's a movie that let lots of people think, 'Huh? Did Yoona always have this side to her?'. Hearing that a lot, I gained confidence, and more passion for acting. 'Confidential Assignment' was my first film, and I wanted to start by playing a smaller role and learn from my good seniors, instead of taking on a lead role. Everything fit in all aspects. Q: What's another work you're waiting for? YOONA: I think I'm receiving lots of projects this year, but I'm carefully picking characters that I can do best without worries. Lots of people liked my appearance in 'Confidential Assignment', so I want to do a drama or movie that's realistic and shows that side of me. Q: Is there anything that inspired you recently? YOONA: The last film I watched in a movie theater was 'La La Land'. I really enjoyed it. I normally like music-related movies. I like when films have a clear theme song, and listening to that song, it makes you recall those scenes. I also like films with open endings, and the end of 'La La Land' felt realistic. Q: When I listen to SNSD's songs, I recall scenes in my life at those times. Because SNSD's music was always played anywhere at certain times. Especially like 'Into the New World'. YOONA: Really? That's also the song we chose as our favorite. There was a Japanese swimmer who always came to our Japan concerts. It's Olympic gold medalist Daiya Seto. I appeared in a program with him before. I was really touched when he told me he always listens to 'Into the New World' before competitions, and that he was able to win a gold medal after getting strength from listening to it. I'm really touched when I hear people gain strength from listening to our songs. We had a fan meeting yesterday, and the members had a survey to share with fans. We voted on our best songs and 1 was 'Into the New World, 2 'Holiday', and 3 'Gee'. Q: Among fans, I heard fan meetings are events that they really want to go to. YOONA: Because we only have fan meetings on special occasions, it feels more like a limited edition kind of thing. We have concerts numerous times, in various places. But fan meetings are only on one day, and it's something we only do with fans. I have birthday parties with fans almost every year. No matter how much we talk on SNSD and broadcasts, I feel like meeting in real life and spending time together is important. Q: When interviewing idols nowadays, they say they want to become like Yoona sunbaenim (senior). YOONA: It's still amazing hearing someone say they want to become like me. I also dreamed looking up at SES, Finkl sunbaenims, and BoA unnie. It was really amazing that those seniors, who were my role models, knew my name. I wonder if those people have the same feelings that I did when I looked at my seniors in the past. I think I'll have to work a bit harder. (laughs) Q: What kind of dream do you have now as an artist? YOONA: I hope I can have my own individual charm. I'll be good with that. Q: You have a particular kind of naturalness. Rather than an unconventional transformation. YOONA: I normally like classic things, as well as simple things without patterns. It's to the point where, when it gets colder, my closet is filled with just black, white, and gray things. Q: There's SNSD's Yoona, actress Yoona, and, when you're not promoting, there's you as yourself. How do you balance it out? YOONA: I'm the type of person who stays loyal to the situation I'm given. While it is good to look at the big picture far ahead, but I like doing what's in front of me well, so I always stayed faithful at those moments. Q: For a while, different mediums will ask how it feels reaching your 10th anniversary. What's a feeling you really want to deliver? YOONA: First, i want to congratulate our fans and my members. I'm grateful to my members, staff, and fans who were with me until now. I think I didn't realize it because they were always next to me, but the creation of our 10th anniversary title made me feel how precious they were even more. I felt like we're great. Q: You are. Whatever it is, doing something for 10 years isn't easy. Did the 10 years pass by quickly? YOONA: They flew by. It feels like it's only been about 7 years. I can't believe it's our 10th anniversary. Having a party, releasing an album, and having a fan meeting now makes it feel real. This album contains the meaning of spending it with fans. There's a fan song for fans, lyrics written by the members, and, when you listen to it, it has a similar atmosphere as our first official album. The members said it's like our debut album a few times. Q: I look forward to your next 10 years even more. What kind of appearance will you show? YOONA: 10 years ago, I thought, 'I think I'll be like this?', but I don't think there's that much of a difference except having gained lots of experience and becoming mature. It just feels like the time went by. Working and resting like this, I think another 10 years will have passed. I'm not sure about my next 10 years. I'm really curious too, I hope I'll have grown well. Q: How do you want to spend the rest of your year? YOONA: I want to rest and get some time to myself. So I have resting as my priority. Because I ran through working every day, I'm the type of person who can't reset well when told to. I think you need to practice resting, too. Q: What do you plan on attempting this time? YOONA: I want to travel a lot and learn things I've always wanted to. I want to learn to golf. I want to master Chiense, and learn English after... I also want to learn to cook in my spare time. Q: Haha. That doesn't feel like you'd be resting? YOONA: That's why travelling is my priority right now.

(caption under the photo: Sooyoung is known as the member who knows the best places to eat. "I'm the type of person who has to take the members when I find out about a good, tasty place." Sooyoung has the utmost love and friendship for her members.) -Girls' Generation's 10 years of friendship according to Sooyoung Even when we go to overseas concerts now, we gather in one room and chat. Most of the members have shared a third of their lives together. Sunday morning, August 5, 2007. Inside a 45- seat bus heading to the SBS Open Hall in Deungchon-dong, Seoul. It was the ride to their first stage on SBS 'Inkigayo' following the release of their debut single 'Into the New World'. Inside the silent bus, the members couldn't look at each other. Because they thought they'd cry if their eyes met. In order to avoid making eye contact, they looked outside, but they couldn't see properly. At the time, the outside of the bus was wrapped with Girls' Generation's photo. While looking out at a scene they couldn't see, the members tried their best to hold back their tears. And they got up on their first stage. Girls' Generation held back their tears and completed their stage. While returning to the waiting room, the members started crying, one by one. Their parents, who came to congratulate them on their first stage, cried with them. The tears were hotter than any shed during their time as trainees, at the shortest 3 years and longest for 7. The girls returned to their dorm and cried again. We met Sooyoung at the SM Entertainment company building on the 21st, and she reminiscenced. She said, "I remember looking out a window you couldn't see out of, sniffling. It was a stage that we went on after practicing our kick for 1 year," and smiled. The kick Sooyoung is talking about is a point in the choreography for 'Into the New World'. "The secret to our 10 years is friendship and being considerate/respectful, beyond the members." What might be the secret behind being able to maintain the group for 10 years? "It's the closeness between the members. We've been able to come a long way because we aren't simply connected through work, but meet as friends. Just because one person is older, they don't try to control another member. I think we've been able to come this far by being respectful, considerate, and yield to one another regarding what each other might like or dislike." If it's been 10 years, don't you end up not meeting as often? "We still have a lot of things to talk about. Being together for 10 years is really an amazing thing. Most of the members have shared a third of their lives together. Half of my life that I've lived so far has been spent under my current company (SM Entertainment). It's to the point where I don't have friends my age other than my members. We talk about everything from our worries, work, and family. The members are all those kinds of friends." I heard during your early debut days, you had time to talk everyday.
"We had a '5-minute talk' time for a while. Everyday, we would have mandatory talks together. While ending our day, we would talk about things like what was sad, things we should pay attention to and improve on. (After leaving the dorm) Everyone got their own space, or started living with family, and we haven't been able to do that, but we did for a while. Even when we go to overseas concerts now, we gather in one room and chat." Do you talk about dating or works (dramas, etc.)? "We talk about the littlest things like 'What should I wear tomorrow?', as well as work advice like, 'Do more of this in the future'. Because we are hearing about a different female celebrity who has also been doing this for 10 years, it works as a stimulant and challenges us." Is it an obligation going to support another member when they do something different? "I think the most important thing to the members isn't money, but time. Not too long ago, I felt sorry asking my members to come to a benefit concert. Because they have to use that precious time. But Tiffany took the time out herself and came, already assuming 'she's probably not asking because she feels sorry'. And she even performed. I also go and support the members when they release a solo album or film a drama. That's the biggest and most valuable present to one another."
"10th anniversary album, the best event we've anticipated since last year." Following the release of their 5th official album, 'Lion Heart', in August 2015, Girls' Generation has been doing individual activities. This year, in particular, Yuri took on her first lead role in the SBS drama 'Defendant', and Seohyun will be starring in the MBC weekend drama 'Bad Thief, Good Thief' starting in May. Yoona enjoyed the success of her first film 'Confidential Assignment', which released in January. Sooyoung started acting early on in November 2011 through the daily sitcom, 'Unstoppable Marriage'. Yuri and Seohyun seem to be rising as actors. "For her role in 'Defendant', Yuri studied a lot about the occupation of a lawyer. She worried a lot about her Girls' Generation image overlapping with her character. But as the episodes went on, she seemed to adapt to the character. As a friend, I feel like she overcame it well, so I was proud. Seohyun has good emotions. She always surprises me. I worry if she will be able to do something well, and she does. She's the youngest sibling that does everything well without us having to worry." Of the 20 years of Korean girl groups, Girls' Generation takes up 10 years. The pride you have must be great. "Until 2 years ago (promoting as a group), I didn't realize how much meaning the work I've done so far had. I think I didn't understand how difficult and big of a deal it was winning a daesang, going on overseas tours, and doing other things as a girl group. I was busy just doing what was in front of me, and getting on stage. Doing individual activities made me think how the things I do as Girls' Generation is the most valuable thing I can do. I've received love that exceeds my abilities. I was able to ride the ship called Girls' Generation because it was with all 8 of us." I feel like you would have felt the most empty(?I think) when your debut colleagues Wonder Girls broke up. "I really admired seeing Wonder Girls transform into a band. If someone told us to attempt a change like that after putting on performances for 10 years, I wonder if we could have done it. I was curious about their transformation, so I looked up all of their interviews. Wonder Girls were a good stimulant, and we were a good driving force to one another. (Their breaking up) made me sad as a fan, but I'm still supporting them as colleagues. Because we can still listen to their music." I heard your 10th anniversary album releases in the summer. "We are going to do (a 10th anniversary album), it's matter of fact, and all the members showed a desire for it since last year. It's the biggest event the members have been anticipating."
"Hope to be remembered as the byword for Girls' Generation forever." 'Into the New World' was sung by Ewha Women's University students to unite them during a rally. It also rang out during the candlelight protests, pressing the impeachment of Park Geun-hye. Girls' Generation was like a language amongst those in their 20s who enjoyed idol culture. The language of the heart that makes you feel united through music. What meaning does 'Into the New World' hold for Girls' Generation? "I think it's a classic amongst girl group debut songs. Haha. The thing idols have to keep up to appeal to the masses is self-confidence. Having a song that people of different generations can sing together is something worth being happy about." According to Yomiuri in Japan, TWICE is being focused on as 'the K-pop group to succeed Girls' Generation'. "I'm proud that they're being introduced as a group 'to succeed Girls' Generation'. During our generation, every rookie was called 'the 2nd BoA'. Now, 'the 2nd Soshi' is going to be coming out." How does it feel seeing girl group juniors nowadays? "They're really pretty and do well. Our girl groups don't show their personal emotions. Because we always have to smile/laugh. How can you be happy every day; I want to applaud them for maintaining a smiling face all the time." What's Girls' Generation's strength? "We try to take after each other's good points. If one person works hard, the others do as well. If one person does a good deed, it influences the others. Another strength is that we greet people well. More than anything, we didn't succeed at once, so we don't forget our 'hungry mindset'. We also know how precious popularity is." What's a good way for Girls' Generation to be remembered? "I hope we will be the 'byword' for girl groups forever." If you had to pick a crisis during Girls' Generations 10 years, it would have to be Jessica's leave from the group. I think that might be what made Girls' Generation become stronger. Sooyoung recited a well-known line from a popular drama. "I liked everyday we spent together. Because the days were good, because the days were not good, because the days were just enough...”

[INTERVIEW] Sooyoung in Sports Donga (March 2017)
SNSD’s 10 Year Friendship According to Sooyoung Really sad about Wonder Girls’ disbandment as a fan, understands the preciousness of popularity so always remember the beginnings Sunday morning of August 5, 2007. Inside of the 45-person bus en route to the Seoul Deungchon-dong SBS public hall. Two days ago, debut single ‘Into the New World’ had come out and it was the road to their first stage for SBS ‘Inkigayo’. Inside of the silent bus, members could not look at each other. It was because if their gazes had met, tears would pour out of their eyes. To avoid gazes, they looked out the window endlessly, but they were not able to see anything properly. At the time, the outside of the bus was wrapped with a photo of SNSD. Members looked out at a landscape that they couldn’t see properly and held in their tears. And they went on their first stage. The girls held their tears back and finished the stage. On the way back to the waiting room, the members teared up one by one. Parents who came to congratulate them on their first stage cried together with them. These tears were warmer than the tears shed countlessly during their time was trainees, 3 and a half years if it was short, 7 years if it was long. The girls came back to their dorm and cried again. Sooyoung who we met on the 21st at the Seoul Cheongdam-dong SM Entertainment office building recalled that time and smiled, saying “I remember looking out at the scenery out the window and sniffling, not really seeing anything. It was a stage we went on after practicing the leg kick for 1 year”. The leg kick Sooyoung references is a point choreography in the ‘Into the New World’ performance. Even now when we go overseas for concerts, we gather in the same room to chat. Most of the members have spent 1/3 of their lives together. “Secret to 10 Years is Friendship, Concern and Respect Among Members” – What is the secret to maintaining the team for 10 years? “It’s the high degree of intimacy among members. It’s not a relationship connected simply by work, but we meet each other as friends, so we are able to go for a long time. There are no incidents of a member having total control of another because they’re older or anything like that. We know what each person likes and dislikes, so we respect one another, we consider one another, and we concede for one another and have been able to come all this way.” – Now that it has been 10 years, do you see each other less often? “There are still a lot of stories we have to share. It’s a huge thing to have been together for 10 years. Most of the members have spent 1/3 of their lives together. I’ve spent 1/2 of my life so far at my current agency (SM Entertainment). I almost don’t have friends my age aside from my members. We speak to each other about everything, from each others’ concerns, to work, to family. Members are friends like that.” – We heard you set time aside to share stories daily during early days of debut. “For a while we had ‘5 Minute Talks’. We made it mandatory to share stories every day with each other. As we wrapped up each day, we talked about things that disappointed us that day, things we have to be cautious about, and areas of improvement. (After we left the dorms) We each had our own space, and as we spent time with family, we haven’t been able to continue doing it but we did it for a while. Even now, when we go overseas for concerts, we gather in one room and share many stories with one another, as we had back then.” – Do you also talk about dating and discuss work (individual projects)? “We talk about trivial things like ‘What should I wear tomorrow’ to giving advice on projects, saying ‘going forward, do more of this’. Since it’s listening to a different female celebrity’s story who you’ve been with for 10 years, so it impacts me and gives me a challenge.” – If one member does something, is it the duty of other members to go and cheer them on? “More than money, the most important thing for the members is time. Recently, I did a charity concert and I felt bad asking the members to come. Because I would need to use up their precious time. But Tiffany said ‘You won’t ask because you’d feel sorry about asking’ and she made time on her own to come. And performed with me. When members release a solo album or film a drama, I go to cheer them on. To one another, that is the biggest and most precious gift.” — After their 5th album “Lion Heart” released in August 2015, SNSD have been promoting individual activities. Especially this year, Yuri has had her first starring role in a public broadcast drama through SBS ‘Defendant’, and Seohyun will star in MBC weekend drama ‘Thief, Mr. Thief’ starting in May. Yoona enjoyed joy of box office success with her first Korean movie ‘Confidential Assignment’ which opened in January. Sooyoung started acting in the KBS 2TV sitcom ‘Unstoppable Marriage’ that aired starting in November 2007. – Yuri and Seohyun have hit their strides as actresses. “Yuri extensively studied the occupation of a lawyer for ‘Defendant’. She worried a lot about her image as SNSD overlapping (with the character). But as each episode went on, she became assimilated into the character. As a friend, I think she did well so I am proud. Seohyun’s emotional sensibility is good. She always surprises me. I wondered if she would be able to do it, and she did it well. She’s a maknae dongsaeng who will do well so I don’t need to worry.” – In the 20 year history of South Korean girl groups, SNSD has taken up 10 years of it. There must be a huge sense of pride. “(During group promotions) Even just 2 years ago, I didn’t fully understand the huge meaning behind everything I’ve done so far. I didn’t know how difficult and big it was that we received daesangs as a girl group and toured internationally. We were too busy working hard to prepare the tasks right in front of our eyes and stand on stage. As we did our individual activities, I understand that the work that I do as SNSD is the most valuable work that I can do. I received generous love beyond my abilities. Because the 8 of us were together, we were able to ride the boat of SNSD.” – You must have felt more empty than anyone else at the disbandment of debut mates, Wonder Girls. “As I watched Wonder Girls band transformation, I really respected them. As we have been doing performances for 10 years, if someone had recommended to us to transform like that and to attempt it, would we have been able to do it. I was curious about their transformation so I searched and read all of the Wonder Girls interviews. Wonder Girls were a good influence, and we were a good driving force for one another. As a fan, I was disappointed (at their disbandment), but as a colleague, i am still cheering them on. As I can still listen to their music.” – We heard the 10th anniversary album is coming out in the summer. “(10th anniversary album) is the right and obvious thing to do, and since last year, all of the members have been showing their desire. It’s the biggest event that the members have been looking forward to.” — “Hope to be Remembered Forever as Representative of Girl Groups” ‘Into the New World’ as a song became a rally cry for students at the Ehwa Women’s University last year. It also sounded out at a candlelit vigil demanding the impeachment of former President Park Geunhye. Among people in their 20s who have participated in idol culture, SNSD became a language. A language of the heart that makes you feel a sense of unity in song. – What does ‘Into the New World’ mean to SNSD? “Isn’t it a masterpiece among girl group debut songs? Haha. It’s a point of pride for idols to have caught the attention of the mass public. It’s a happy thing to have a song that can be sung together with people of various generations.” – TWICE has been named as the ‘K-Pop Girl Group Who Will Continue SNSD’s Legacy’ by Yomiuri Newspaper in Japan. “I’m proud that they are being introduced as ‘continuing SNSD’s legacy’. During our time, whenever a rookie came out, they were called ‘The 2nd BoA’. Now ‘The 2nd Soshi’ are coming out.” – How do you feel watching girl group hoobaes these days? “They are so pretty, and doing well. Our girl groups do not show individual emotions. It’s because we always have to smile. It’s impossible to be happy and joyful every day, but I want to applaud them for always maintaining their smiling appearances.” – What is a strong suit unique to SNSD? “We try to emulate the positive qualities of one another. If one person works hard, a different member does as well. Whoever sets the precedence, we all give and receive positive influence. The fact that we greet others well is also a strong suit. More than anything, we were not successful at first try, so we’ve never forgotten the ‘hungry mindset’. We know the preciousness of popularity.” – How would you like SNSD to be remembered? “I hope we will be forever ‘representatives’ of girl groups.” If you were to choose the most critical moment in SNSD’s 10 years, it would be Jessica’s withdrawal. We wonder if that incident made SNSD even stronger. Like a riddle, Sooyoung recited a famous dialogue from a popular drama. “I liked all of the days we were together. Because the days were good, and because the days were not good, and because the days were just enough….”

I share again a full translation of Sooyoung. She really convey a deep message in every words she said. I hope you all have time to read this.👍👍👍👍🙆🙆🙆 [INTERVIEW TRANSLATION] Sooyoung in Sports Donga (March 2017) - "SNSD’s 10 Year Friendship According to Sooyoung":, credit sonexstella Sunday morning of August 5, 2007.
