while i’m here, the fact that they’ve started bringing up this detail again in recent chapters feels a bit foreboding
#mine#like it’s definitely to set up a backstory arc but also#their friendship has always been interesting to me. and i think that can be summed up by how#ch14 establishes that kouyou attended minato & nagiko’s wedding. and that minato knew kouyou before he got married (uses his birth surname)#then in ch37 minato and asumi greet each other with ‘it’s nice to meet you’.#his first face-to-face meeting with his best friend’s wife and it’s ~20 years after they got together.#if we take away the years that kouyou’s been gone on his trip that’s still well over a decade.#on top of the fact that kouyou seemingly never told his son (huge deep sea fan) of his best friend (works w/ the deep sea for his job +#was building the first aquarium in the deep sea ever). yes it's been established that koutarou's childhood memory can be spotty#but wouldn't he remember something connected so strongly to both his father and his lifelong interest?#yet as of now there's also no evidence to suggest that kouyou and minato's relationship was strained before nagiko's passing#tl;dr ‘he was my best friend. so i think.’ you have got to elaborate on that man
