yeong-hu x f!reader
⚠️CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM SEASON 3⚠️
warnings:none
a/n: you all knew this was coming😭 yeong-hu is my man fr lool. anyways, what did you all think of season 3?? i enjoyed it but the ending felt so rushed for some reason!! ive got some more fics on the way hehe so if you want anything specific or a specific character let me know <33
Masterlist
“is that the last of them?” you asked jin-ho as a couple more people trickled into the church.
“it seems” he told you before briefly looking around and noticing a women in her early twenties, wearing a mustard yellow jacket while carrying a bag on her back.
“follow us in silence” jin-ho told her and she did as he said.
she wasn’t someone you’d seen around before but with how many people were living at the stadium you knew, you wouldn’t know everyone.
suddenly, her eyes widened as sergeant tak approached you. she hurriedly pushed past jin-ho and looked between you and the seargent.
“it’s you two! you’re a scary looking man and you’re a pretty lady wearing military uniform” she exclaimed excitedly “is your name master sergeant tak? and is yours y/n l/n?”
you raised an eyebrow in confusion. sergeant tak looked towards jin-ho, just as confused.
“you both know park chan-young and kim yeong-hu, don’t you?” she suddenly asked and your heart dropped to your stomach.
why was she mentioning them?
“i need to tell you something important” she then said and she took you and sergeant tak aside and briefed both of you on the details.
when she said yeong-hu was still alive, you were overwhelmed with emotions. you had thought he was gone and you had just accepted it, thinking it would be easier to move on.
as sergeant tak went to go and distract sang-wook, you waited in a room for yeong-hu. your palms were sweaty and you paced back and forth in anticipation to see yeong-hu again.
after several minutes, the door to the room swung open and you saw yeong-hu stood there. he looked rough, he had blood and cuts covering him and you were in complete disbelief when you saw him.
“yeong-hu..” you breathed out, tears now forming in your eyes as a rush of emotions filled you.
“y/n” he said and you rushed to wrap your arms around him.
you couldn’t believe he was in front of you.
as soon as you held onto him, yeong-hu enveloped you and returned the hug. holding you close to him and his grip tight around you.
the hug lasted for a long while, neither one of you wanting to let go.
“it’s all my fault” yeong-hu said lowly into the hug and you slowly pulled away.
however, you took his hands into yours.
“it’s all my fault y/n. yeong-seok, seo-jin, u-seok, jong-hyun and seok-chan. sergeant choi, as well as the other they members of the search party have all died” yeong-hu continued, his breath shaking as he choked back emotions “i have failed everyone”
you looked up at yeong-hu and frowned as your heart broke at the expression on his face. he couldn’t look directly at you and you swallowed hard.
you let go of one of his hands and brought it up to cup the one side of his face. turning his head to look at you.
“you’re not a failure. your men, they followed you because you’re such a good leader and they respect you so much to the point they’d do anything for you. their deaths are not on you. you’re an amazing strong person and you did what you thought was right. you stand by your men everyday regardless and that’s something to be proud of and you should never blame yourself for what has happened” you firmly told him.
yeong-hu was always hard on himself and whenever someone got hurt or died, he held the weight of it on his shoulders. even when he shouldn’t have.
a tear slipped from his eye and you wrapped your arms around him another time, this time consoling him.
yeong-hu then pulled away and you sent him a small smile.
“i can’t believe you’re actually here” you smiled and leaned forward to press your lips onto his.
he returned the kiss and after you pulled away, he rested his forehead onto yours and rested his hands on your waist.
“i love you” yeong-hu exhaled out.
“i love you too” you told him.
both of you stayed as your were, enjoying each others presence.
suddenly, the door opened and in came sergeant tak. he hadn’t expected you to be there and apologised in an instance.
“sorry, i didn’t realise you were here” he looked at you and you shook your head.
“it’s okay sergeant” you smiled “i’ll let the two of you talk”
you began to make your way towards the door but yeong-hu kept his hold on you, his body slightly tensing up.
“stay, please?” he said and you looked between sergeant tak and yeong-hu.
“thats fine with me” sergeant tak let out a genuine smile and you nodded your head.
“of course” you moved to be close to yeong-hu again, he loosened his hold on you, relaxing slightly.
you couldn’t help the grin that escaped from you as he continued to hold onto you even when talking to sergeant tak.
he wasn’t going to let you go any time soon.

you took the words right out of my mouth || Kim Yeong-Hu x Reader
Tumblr media
word count: 1k
warnings & tags: mostly sweet and fluffy, implied sex but nothing explicit, just harmless flirtation
A/N: For @neohumanmonster's Born in Blood prompt! I don't know if I'll post the other prompts right away because I don't want to burn myself out, so I hope you'll enjoy that one in the meantime!
Tumblr media
“You do realize that there are two doctors in here, right?” you ask as you enter the room, not bothering to greet the man sitting on the examination table.
Sergeant Kim Young Hu’s eyes follow you as you walk to the sink to wash your hands. Around his bicep, a makeshift bandage seeped with red. By the looks of it, it isn’t the worst state you’ve seen him in.
“I’m not letting that lunatic touch me,” he answers, his voice calm, as it usually is, and you roll your eyes.
You’d be lying if you said you were a fan of Dr. Lim. You already had your issues with the man when you both worked for the government, before this all started. Once the Outbreak had begun, it had taken you forty-eight hours as his assistant before you had requested to start working out in the field. You’re well-aware of his shortcomings.
Unfortunately, and it stings to admit it, he’s one of the most competent doctors you’ve ever met. He’d be more than able to take care of the Sergeant.
“You do realize I have other things to do, right?”
“And I am deeply sorry to have taken you away from your fifth grade biology lessons.”
…Okay, he has a point. Finally done with your thorough handwashing — it’s not nearly as sanitizing as you’d like it to be, but it’s not like there’s a lot more you can do —, you come to stand in front of him.
“Does it hurt a lot?” you ask as you start undoing the bandage. At least working with the military means that the men all know what they’re doing in terms of first-aid.
“Could be worse. I think I just need stitches.”
You’d trust him, if it wasn’t for the fact that you’ve heard him say that about injuries that could have been fatal, had you not been there. In this case, though, you’re relieved to see it does look mostly fine. Whatever attacked him slashed through him, deep enough to be concerning but without actually damaging the muscle or hitting an important artery.
“What happened here?”
“One of the guys tried to take something from a monster,” the Sergeant Kim replies flatly. “I intervened.”
“Oh, it’s good it didn’t turn out worse, then?”
“Not really,” he says with a shrug. “The monster wasn’t violent until disturbed. This could have easily been avoided.”
“Sounds like your boys need a stern talking-to.”
While talking, you go fetch what you need. At least you’ve got everything required for something like stitching someone up, which you can’t say about most other ailments.
“I’ll handle that,” the Sergeant answers from behind you, and you smile. He exudes this quiet strength that you cannot help but be impressed by. His men would follow him to the end of the world and back, if he asked, and you can see why.
“Alright, well, you know the drill,” you tell him, coming back in front of him. “Think you’ll be okay?”
It’s silly to ask, with how often you’ve had to patch him or his men up. You’re well aware of his resistance to pain. Nonetheless, your training requires you ask, even if it’s no surprise when he nods in answer.
“Just go for it.”
You make quick and easy work of the wound. You focus on being fast and efficient rather than on lessening the pain, which you know is for the best with him. It’s not long before you’re setting your tools back down, done with your work. There are a few seconds during which the Sergeant takes the time to relax his jaw, to breathe in a couple of times, and then he nods at you.
“All done?” he asks.
“You’ll need to come back here so I can check on it,” you say. “And try not to put any strain yourself with that arm for a couple days, alright?”
He nods, but you don’t put much faith in that. As a soldier, you’d think he’d be good at following orders and, to be fair, you’ve heard he did an outstanding job most of the time. Unfortunately, your recommendations seemed to fall into deaf ears more often than not.
“Is that all?”
“Sure,” you say, even if his nonchalance exhausts you. “Hope I don’t see you here again for a good while.”
This, at least, brings a smile to his lips, and you try your best to suppress your shiver. He gets up from the table, and stands up, just inches from you. He’s so close, his torso almost brushes against your chest.
“Is that so, Doc?”
Damn that man.
“You know, if you keep this up, I’ll end up thinking you’re landing yourself in here on purpose,” you say.
The smile turns more amused.
“I would never endanger myself on purpose,” he tells you with disarming honesty. “But I’d be lying if I said I minded this kind of flesh wounds all that much these days.”
And before you can tell him just what you think of that, of course, he leans in to capture your lips. It’s not the first time. It doesn’t look like it will be the last time. And you’re in one of the very few rooms in the stadium that can actually lock.
Fuck it, you decide, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him closer to you. It doesn’t matter why the two of you play that game together, the people you shared a past with and that are long gone, the fact that this relationship was built on blood. What matters is that in his arms, for however long you get to have him, you forget that the world is doomed.
If him coming back for more over and over again is any indication, so does he.

hope you liked this, it's a little sillier than what i've written for the fandom so far, so that was fun to play with. i don't know if i'll write for other soldiers because most of them... didn't leave me much of an impression as far as their personality goes, but i tried something for sergeant kim ^-^ please consider leaving a comment or reblogging if you're enjoying my writing, interactions are what keep me motivated to write for a fandom!

Hiiii, can you make more fanfics about sergeant kim yeong hu. So, basically him and the reader are married and the reader is pregnant and sergeant kim is so protective for the reader and their baby until the baby is born and they both took care of the baby.
Sergeant Kim Yeong Hu x Reader
Sergeant Kim Yeong Hu paced nervously in the small area of the stadium, his eyes darting towards the bedroom door every few seconds. Inside, you, his beloved wife, were resting as the imminent arrival of your baby drew near. The air was thick with anticipation and a mix of anxiety and excitement.
As the contractions intensified, Yeong Hu's protective instincts kicked in. He rushed to your side, holding your hand tightly. "I'm here for you, always," he whispered, his eyes reflecting determination. With each passing moment, his concern for you and the baby deepened.
The make shift hospital room echoed with the sounds of your labored breaths and the comforting presence of Yeong Hu by your side. The sergeant's stoic exterior cracked, revealing his vulnerability as he saw you in pain. "You're doing great, my love. Just a little longer," he reassured, wiping away beads of sweat from your forehead.
Finally, the cries of a newborn filled the room, and Yeong Hu's eyes lit up with joy and relief. The nurse handed him the tiny bundle – your baby. His hands trembled as he cradled the newborn, a mix of awe and tenderness in his gaze. "Our baby," he marveled, his voice choked with emotion.
From that moment, Yeong Hu's protective instincts didn't waver; if anything, they intensified. He became the doting father, ensuring the safety and well-being of both you and your precious little one. Late nights were spent taking turns soothing the baby, and Yeong Hu reveled in the newfound joy of parenthood.
As your family grew, so did the love that bound you together. Sergeant Kim Yeong Hu, once a fierce protector against monsters, now found his purpose in safeguarding the two most important people in his life – you and your beautiful baby. And so, your home became a sanctuary, shielded by the love of a devoted husband and father, creating a haven in a world that often felt chaotic and unpredictable.

By the Sunset
Joon-yeong X GN!reader
Tumblr media
A/N: this was supposed to be a shorter fic but I got carried away HSHJAA. Also no apocalypse AU!
Warning: none as far as I know
Summary: you take Mr. goody two shoes over here to relax and watch the sunset with you
It was a quiet Sunday, the time just hitting 4PM. Coming home from the local library with a couple books at hand, Joon-yeong greeted his parents. Going up the stairs to his room he push opened the door, suprise to see a familiar face sitting on the edge of his bed.
"suprise!" I waved my hand, greeting him with a smile"Y/N?how did you-" "your mom let me in! I'm here to deliver a special invitation for you and you only" I stood up from his bed bowing dramatically before walking towards Joon-yeong who's still haven't move from his place.
"You don't happen to be busy this evening are you?" I step closer to him, taking his books and setting it on his study desk"Well...there is a test coming up in a week that I need to umm study for" he fiddled with his shirt, trying not to look too flustered by your sudden appearance "in a week? Sheesh Joon-yeong, just relax for today" I pat his shoulder, grabbing my bag i opened the door "get yourself ready, I'll tell you where we're going once you meet me outside" I winked, waving before leaving him alone in his room.
He does as you say, changing his clothes to something more fitting for outside activities...is what he'd usually say but that's a lie he's just trying to look his best for you. Going outside he says goodbye to his parents as they yell a "take care" before he finally meets you face to face again.
"ready to go?" "Yeah! well, I was wondering...where are we going exactly?" We both started to walk to our destination, him following my lead "well I know this place that shows the incredible view of the city, albeit it's an abandoned site but it's very popular amongst us highschool students!"
We spent the walk there chatting away about our recent activities. "Come on!" I went to hold his hand, starting to walk faster seeing how we're nearing our destination. Going inside the abandoned apartment I face him "race you to the top!" I immediately sprinted up the stairs "wait be careful Y/N-ah! Don't go tripping now!" he takes his time with the stairs hoping that they won't suddenly fall and hurt themselves.
"come on slowpoke! If you keep walking like that we're gonna miss the sunset!!" I giddily hopped from stair to stair, walking up fast but also carefully. "God, how do they have so much energy all the time?" He whispered to himself, regaining his breath before he starts ascending the stairs again.
Once Joon-yeong finally catched up to me I opened the roof door. We both walked outside taking in the view "this place really is beautiful" he stood beside me in awe, looking onto the city and the beautiful orange pink hued sky. I took out a blanket from my bag and put it down, sitting on it "come on sit down! I made a couple of sandwiches just in case you're hungry, we can have a full dinner later but for now-" I took out the food from my bag and handed to him "let's just relax okay? Top students like you still needs a break every now and then" he sat down next to me gladly taking the food.
"thank you for setting this up, I really appreciate it" he smiled looking towards the horizon. During this time i can't help but admire him, the sunset giving him a beautiful glow. "Joon-yeong" "hmm?" I lean in wiping his cheek, my hand lingering on him for a few seconds before I pulled back "You got something on your face"
"o-oh, thank you" he touches his cheek which was slowly heating up. As more time passes by, Joon-yeong can't help but take quick glances at their lips whenever they talk, of course he immediately looks back at their eyes. However this action did not go unnoticed towards them "are you just gonna stare all day or will you actually try kissing me for once?" "well, I mean, c-can we?" He readjusted his glasses not believing what you're trying to say "well, since you asked so nicely" I immediately go in for the kiss catching him slightly off guard, It only took a couple of seconds before he began to lean in. What's more romantic then sharing a sweet kiss before sundown?
As we part ways he intertwined his hand on mine "this was nice wasn't it? I don't usually take people up here with me so consider yourself lucky" I joked, but truly, I really haven't taken anyone up here, not until he came around. "It's an honour to be up here with you then" he smiled. Standing up, Joon-yeong helped me with my bag as we both get ready to go back. His smile suddenly falters once he remembered something "wait...don't we have a homework to finish by tomorrow?" he frantically asked "bold of you to assume I know if there's homework or not" "god damnit Y/N, come on, I'm making you do the homework with me" he grabbed my hand and starts to speed walk towards the roof door "well now hold on a second, slow down!" We both immediately went downstairs, running back to Joon-yeong's house hand in hand.

yeong-hu x f! reader
warnings: contains some spoilers from S2 Sweet Home
a/n: this fic will contain certain parts which happened in S2 but won’t be 100% accurate!! also i had to write a fic about this man, he IS husband material + if any of you have read my other fics you know how much i suck at endings so im sorry about this ending🤣 i hope you enjoy it either way though!!
Masterlist
everyday was the same thing, wake up, stand in line for roll call and do your part to help with the survival of the group. the crow platoons ensured safety but supplies were running low.
before everything happened, you were a doctor and had served some time in the military as a doctor too. you kept that second part a secret though. you refused to get involved with the crow platoon in that aspect. they were usually looking to get more people with military experience to join them.
you were quite happy just being like everyone else and doing doctor duties when people really needed it. supplies were always low for what you did and you found yourself just making do with anything.
the morning started like all others. people doing little things they were assigned to do. then the announcement for roll call was made and you lined up with everyone. the crow platoon were going on an expedition for more supplies.
everyone stood in line as members of the crow platoon did their checks. they needed to make sure everyone was accounted for before they left.
you were stood with yeong-su and jin-ok. yeong-su had a baseball in his hand and was throwing it up and down.
“you should stop before they see” you told yeong-su to which he rolled his eyes and continued throwing his ball, that was until he dropped it.
the sound of the ball rolling seemed to be the only sound until it came to a stop. it had hit the shoes of one of the crow platoon soldiers. the soldier u-seok picked the ball up and yeong-su started to get upset.
“give it back to me! give it back!” yeong-su complained trying to reach up and grab the ball but the soldier held it higher.
suddenly, then the soldier grabbed a hold of yeong-su’ arm and held it in place.
“when did he get this scar?” u-seok questioned.
“it’s from last night” jin-ok chimed in and began to hold onto yeong-su.
“it looks fresher than that” u-seok tightened his grip on the young boy.
“sir, it doesn’t seem serious” the other soldier chan-young said looking between the two.
“what would you know about it? we have to be sure” u-seok then took out his knife and tried to cut yeong-su.
“just. just let him go. he’s just a child..ok?” jin-ok held yeong-su protectively.
“kids can be monsters too. there’s no exceptions”
“then let jin-ok do it herself” you stepped forward and jin-ok nodded profusely.
“yes, i’ll do it myself” jin-ok addded.
“you should’ve done it last night” the soldier then tried to cut yeong-su.
before he could make contact with the young boys skin, you stopped him. you stood forward and held onto the knife. your hand wrapped around the sharp blade and you did a manoeuvre to get the knife from the guard.
you held the knife up to his throat, your hand was covered in blood but you didn’t care. u-seok was acting like an ass and needed to be taught a lesson.
“maybe you should start doing your job properly and focus on more important things like getting more medical supplies rather than picking on a little kid” you said through grit teeth putting the knife down.
“you think you’re so tough huh?” u-seok snatched the knife from you and then latched his hand onto your top.
“sir, we have other important matters” chan-young tried to step in.
“you finish up here, im taking this one to sarge. then we’ll see if she has anything more to say”
you then found yourself being dragged with full force through the various halls. u-seok kept his grip on you and even though you tried to push him away from you, it was no use.
eventually, you reached the area where the crow platoon gather together and get set up for their expeditions. the room was full of some of the other soldiers
“let go of me asshole!” you cursed at him and he then threw you to the floor.
you landed on the cold floor and winced slightly as you tried to get up. you hand was still bloody and sore from earlier.
“what’s this?” sergeant kim (yeong-hu) walked in, his eyes focused to you.
“sarge, this one here managed to get a hold of my knife and held it to my throat. she’s definitely hiding something!” u-seok said loudly.
“this isn’t how we treat people u-seok. doesn’t matter what they’ve done” yeong-hu walked up to you and held his hand out.
you glared at him before getting up yourself. you didn’t need his hand.
“i haven’t done anything wrong. your poor excuse of a soldier u-seok picked on a little kid today. so all i did was tell him to focus on more important things like getting more supplies. especially medical supplies” you defended yourself and decided to speak your mind. “we have sick people and they need treatment. honestly i haven’t seen anything this bad ever since i served-“
you soon stopped yourself after realising you had just exposed yourself. god, you only hoped he wasn’t listening to that last part.
“served? are you telling me that you used to be in the military?” yeong-hu folded his arms and you meekly nodded.
there was no use lying now.
“go get ready” yeong-hu told you firmly and you raised an eyebrow.
“for what?” you questioned. why did you have to get ready.
“just get ready and then we’ll talk…?” he looked at you and you said your name.
“y/n…” he then said before brushing you aside and turning to his men “everyone we leave in five minutes. be ready.”
you now found yourself sat in the backseat of a military truck with yeong-hu and one of his other men named seok-chan in the front. your hand was now wrapped too and you had your bag with you. your own personal knife hiding in the front pocket just in case.
“where are you going to take me?” you questioned.
“you suggested that we need more medical supplies, you must know where we can find some” yeong-hubanswered while looking at a map in his hands. he didn’t bother looking at you.
you were being weary. what if he was lying? but also why would they bring you? you could’ve just marked a map up for them.
you remained silent as you waited for some of the other soldiers of crow platoon to get into the other vehicles.
“are you dating anyone sarge?” seok-chan smirked “a lot of our boys are seeing someone on the down low, you know?”
“are you?” yeong-hu responded.
“i cant. unless you start dating, i can’t wreck the chain of command”
“i feel no need for it”
“is it because you couldn’t find the right person?..it’s just, well i’ve been thinking and i mean you’re good looking and a survivor, you’re good at killing monsters and as a leader. you’re a prize catch in today’s standards. so, why can’t you get a girl? don’t you think y/n?”
you scoffed “as if anyone would want someone as cold and confusing as your sergeant”
yeong-hu turned his head and shot you a stern look at seok-chan awkwardly laughed.
“she’s probably just joking sarge” he cleared his throat as yeong-hu glared at him “let’s just focus on the mission”
“good idea” you added.
-time skip (im sorry im feeling lazy💀)-
you hated to admit it but going on the expedition with the crow platoon guys was actually pretty interesting and fun. it was the first time in god knows how long that you actually went outside and got hands on.
it was currently raining and you were taking in every second of it as you packed the final bits of medical supplies you had found.
“thank you” you said loudly to yeong-hu and he turned to look at you “really thank you”
yeong-hu was just about to respond but suddenly a loud explosion was heard. everyone’s heads turned to where the sound had come from.
“that came from camp, right?” seok-chan said.
“we need to prepare to head back!” yeong-hu called out loud to everyone and everyone began to get into the trucks.
it was decided to draw the monsters away from the stadium. the crow platoon had a plan, the only problem was that they didn’t get you involved.
“give me a gun. i can help” you demanded.
“forget it. i let you come to help look for supplies, that’s all. leave the rest to us” yeong-hu then opened the truck door for you to get inside.
with a loud huff you gave in and sat in the truck at the platoon men did their thing. once it was over, you found yourself back at the stadium.
you followed yeong-hu and the rest of the platoon members back into camp. you held your bag full of medical supplies on your shoulders, already thinking of places to store your new items.
as you continued on, seargent tak appeared.
“ten hut!” he called out and everyone around you turned to focus on him.
“sir, what was that explosion i heard?” yeong-hu asked stepping forward.
“a women tried to run and triggered a mine earlier. it exploded before we could properly defuse it” sergeant tak explained.
“which platoon member was overseeing them?”
from behind seargent tak, chan-young had approached them.
“I was in charge sir” chan-young stood straight “im private park”
you liked chan-young. he was by far the nicest platoon member out of them all. you didn’t know him well but from what you had seen before, he didn’t have a bad bone in his body.
“it’s behind us now. we moved on” sergeant tak told yeong-hu.
“and the runner? removed. i assume, huh? park chan-young!” yeong-hu was clearly pissed.
“she was showing monster symptoms so we isolated her” chan-young said.
“isolated?” yeong-hu raised an eyebrow.
“i insisted we keep her here.”’
once chan-young said those words, yeong-hu lost it and punched him. he fell into some old metal barrels but stood straight after a second so, yeong-hu punched him again- even harder. chan-young finally fell to the floor and he received a foot to the stomach.
“are you crazy? stop!” you yelled pushing yeong-hu so that he wouldn’t hurt chan-young any further.
“you stay out of this” yeong-hu grit his teeth, his stare like daggers.
if looks could kill, you would’ve been dead.
he then stormed off and you shook your head disappointedly as you helped chan-young get up.
———————————————————————————————
over the next few days, you noticed yeong-hu around. whenever he locked eyes with you, you’d pretend to not notice and whenever it was roll call you’d hope that it wouldn’t be him doing the checks. luckily for you it wasn’t him.
you couldn’t get him out of your head. he’d made an impression on you. good or bad? you didn’t know which one yet. but it was definitely a strong impression. you knew that.
“come with me” one of the platoon members had come to grab you.
“what for?” you were curious. after all, it had come out of no where.
“just come” the member said and began to walk away.
with a sigh you decided to follow.
“through there” the member then gestured for you to go in.
with a gulp, you pushed the door open and stepped inside. and there was yeong-hu. he had his hands on his hips while staring at a map up on a board, his head flicked in your direction and he then turned his full attention to you.
“where have your friends eun-yu and chan-young gone? they’re missing from roll call” yeong-hu asked while looking you up and down.
“how would i know where they are? i don’t keep tabs on them” you shrugged and paused “but…even if i did know, what makes you think i’d tell you. huh?”
“y/n i don’t have time for your childish games. you need to tell me straight if you know where they went”
“i just told you. i don’t know. i didn’t even know they were missing…now, can i go?”
yeong-hu nodded his head and you kissed your teeth as you turned to walk out the room. you were then stopped as you felt a hand on you. the force of the hand made you spin around to face yeong-hu. he was closer than before and you gulped as he scanned your face.
“if you see your friends, you need to tell me immediately” he told you and you nodded lightly.
your heart was beating fast because of how close he was and his hand was oddly warm and soft.
when you finally left the room, you couldn’t help but feel hot. your heart was still beating extremely fast and you hadn’t realised before but yeong-hu was actually really attractive.
stop! you told yourself.
you can’t like him.
you don’t like him.
the rest of the day passed by extremely slowly and you tried to distract yourself by doing different chores. none of it seemed to work as your mind constantly wandered back to one specific person.
that same person also couldn’t get you out of his head. he was trying to focus on his duties but you were constantly lingering in his mind. there was something about you. he couldn’t put his finger on it but he knew he had strong feelings for you. he just didn’t know if they were good or bad.
you tried sleeping. but you couldn’t. instead you were stuck tossing and turning trying to force yourself. it wasn’t working.
after sitting up, you slipped your shoes on and made your way to the crow platoon area. there was only one way to get your mind off that one person. you needed to face your feelings.
you wondered back to the room from earlier. your palms became sweaty once you were stood directly outside the door and your heart began to race. with whatever courage in you, you knocked lightly on the door and when you heard yeong-hu’ voice. you entered.
“y/n, it’s you” yeong-hu was slightly taken aback “have you found out where your friends went?”
you shook your head “sorry, no. i just couldn’t sleep. im guessing it’s the same for you too?”
“oh uh yeah, there’s a lot on my mind”
a silence then filled the room. you suddenly didn’t know what to say. for a while you both then didn’t say a word to one another.
“i should go. you must have a lot of things to do” you awkwardly tried to make an excuse to leave and began to head to the door.
“stay” yeong-hu’ voice was firm and you paused in your tracks.
“what?” you questioned not daring to turn around.
“stay y/n” he repeated.
“i should get going.” you reached forward to grab the door handle.
without warning, yeong-hu stood in front of you and was now blocking the door.
“y/n, there’s something about you. i don’t quite understand it. even when you’re not there, you linger in my mind. i think about you and i shouldn’t.” yeong-hu’ confession caught you off guard.
“what are you saying?” you breathed out, unable to say anything else.
“i like you”
as soon as he said those words you felt a weight being lifted off your shoulders.
he had made it easy for you and your feelings towards him were now clear too.
“i like you too” you couldn’t help the smile that appeared on your face.
yeong-hu brought his hand up to your cheek and gently cupped up. he looked between your eyes and your lips for permission and when you nodded lightly, he leaned forward and pressed your lips together.
and for once everything just felt right.

“make sure to keep the wound as clean as you can, okay?” you smiled at the women in front of you before handing her some bandages “take these and change the dressing every two days”
“thank you, you’re always so kind” the lady thanked you before walking away.
with a smile you watched her walk away as your wrapped up for the day. being part of the platoon and being a doctor you split your responsibilities. some days you’d go out on expeditions to find supplies and other days you’d be on doctor duty, helping the civilians.
you wanted to make sure you were doing your part.
after packing up your supplies up and closing the infirmary, you headed to the platoon area. when you got there, most of the men were eating supper or waiting for their shirts to dry.
“oh it’s y/n. come eat with us!” seok-chan gestured for you to come over to where he and some of the other platoon members were eating.
you nodded with a grin before grabbing yourself a bowl of whatever they were serving and went to sit next to seok-chan.
“how’s my favourite military doctor doing?” he gently elbowed your side and you chuckled.
“i am very good. i just can’t wait to go back to my room and sleep later though” you answered dramatically putting your head on seok-chan’ shoulder.
“busy day, huh?” he nudged you slightly and you lifted your head.
“don’t even get me started but anyway enough about me. what did you get up to today? find yourself a girlfriend yet?”
“ahh no way. you know i could never date unless the sarge decides to. that will never happen though”
“that’s right. the sarge is too serious to start dating anyone” seo-jin chimed in.
“please, the sarge will never find someone. he’s too uptight and cold. i mean, he literally doesn’t even talk to me! how rude can someone even-“ you complained but seok-chan suddenly cleared his throat causing you to stop talking.
you twisted your head slightly and saw yeong-hu stood a meter away with his arms crossed looking at you.
“i think you should stop worrying about such trivial matters and focus on doing your appointed jobs miss y/l/n. you’re on washing up duty and there’s a big pile waiting for you to clean” yeong-hu said before walking away.
when he was a safe distance away, you sighed aloud.
“he heard all of it, didn’t he?” you held your head low “god, he didn’t like me much before. i bet now he’s likes me even less”
“it’s not that bad y/n. you know how the sarge is…” seok-chan made an attempt to try and make you feel better but it was not working.
sergeant kim yeong-hu just didn’t like you and you didn’t know why.
the following day, you woke up nice and early. you were going to be going on an expedition with the platoon. after getting your gear you went to the main platoon area. most of the members were still getting themselves ready and you joined jin-ho who was doing his usual tech things.
“i don’t know how you do all this. there’s about a hundred wires” you commented watching jin-ho attach one wire onto another.
“it’s easy once you know what is what” he said and briefly looked at you.
“right..are you thinking of growing your hair out again?”
“not any time soon. it’s easier if it’s just short…” jin-ho answered running a hand over his head “i do like how it looks when it’s longer but-"
he abruptly stopped speaking as his eyes widened slightly. he then cleared his throat and turned his focus back to what he was originally doing.
“if you don’t mind y/n, let’s talk later im busy right now” he said in a serious tone and you awkwardly nodded.
it wasn’t until you got up from your seat next to jin-ho that you realised why he was acting in such a weird way. when you got up and turned on your heel, you saw yeong-hu stood nearby. he had a stern look on his face and spoke once you saw him.
“any luck jin-ho?” yeong-hu said aloud “i hope you’re not getting distracted by certain people”
yeong-hu kept his eyes on you as he looked you up and down as you walked past him. you did your best to hide the fact he was slightly intimidating and went to go sit with some of the other platoon members.
-later-
you made sure to be on your best behaviour when on the expedition to get supplies. you didn’t want to get onto yeong-hu’ bad side.
“let’s split into two groups, that way we can cover more ground. this is a wholesale store so there should be plenty for us to get. seok-chan, seo-jin, jin-ho and y/n come with me to cover the second floor of the building and the rest of you cover the ground floor” yeong-hu ordered and soon enough the group was split into two.
yeong-hu led from the front with seo-jin behind him. you were behind seo-jin and at the back was seok-chan. you all quietly made your way to the second floor, the concrete floors and walls in the staircase area were covered in some thick brown substance and the smell was sickly.
“stay cautious. we don’t know what creature could’ve done this” yeong-hu looked back briefly before continuing forward.
“ah what’s that fucking smell. it’s so bad” seo-jin cursed.
“man up seo-jin, it’s not that bad” seok-chan let out a chuckle and you couldn’t help but giggle slightly.
seo-jun shot you both a quick glare.
“seriously, what monster did all of this though” you breathed out as you all approached the top of the stairs “it’s disgusting”
“focus! we are about to enter the second floor” yeong-hu suddenly snapped and you gulped with a small nod.
you didn’t understand why he was so cold to you. you tried your best not to dwell on it though. you had to focus on the task at hand.
you held your gun close as you followed the others as you all entered the second floor.
yeong-hu and seo-jin covered the right side while you and seok-chan covered the left.
“clear!” you called out as seo-jin did the same.
“let’s all split up. look for any supplies you think we need. keep within ear reach of each other” yeong-hu announced.
“we can’t be sure there’s no monster here so keep your eyes peeled and call out if you need help” seok-chan tapped your shoulder, and you sent him a quick nod as you all then went separate ways.
you went straight to what looked like an area with a bunch of medical supplies.
“bingo!” you smiled to yourself, quickly making sure the area was safe before getting your hand torch out and putting your gun down. you placed the torch on the shelf so that it would illuminate the area as much as possible.
after filling your bag to the brim with different medical supplies, you began to make way to see if maybe there was anything else. you made your way over to a check out counter and began rummaging through the draws underneath, checking to see if maybe there was anything useful. you crouched down and held the torch in your mouth as you needed both hands free. it was practical.
as you continued to rummage through the draws, you heard a scraping sound and your head immediately shot up. you took the torch from your mouth and held it in the direction where you thought you heard the scraping was coming from. you took a deep breath in trying to stop yourself from reacting badly as you noticed a creature that had a human head, a human upper torso but the rest of its body was a centipede body climbing up the wall.
luckily, it hadn’t seen you.
you tactically turned off your torch and stayed crouched as you made your way to try and find the others. you couldn’t exactly radio any of them or call out to them because then it meant the monster would know you were there.
you barely made it a meter or two away before, you heard footsteps approaching. it was yeong-hu. he was walking in the direction of where the creature was.
“stop” you whispered as loud as you could while waving your arms to try and get his attention.
he at first didn’t notice you but when he did, your eyes widened as you realised hanging above him was the creature.
“what are you-” he raised an eyebrow but was cut off at the half centipede creature jumped on his back. yeong-hu fell to the ground and the creature
you immediately got up and rushed to help yeong-hu. you had your knife in hand and pierced it through the creatures chest. it shrieked in pain and then turned to look at you. the head of the creature had large teeth, that resembled fangs and its eyes were pure black. it hissed and lunged towards you.
you felt its full weight on top of you and it held you down as its teeth sunk down on your shoulder. you released an ear piercing scream as pain shot through your body. you didn’t stop trying to push it off of you and soon all you could hear was gunshots and eventually the weight that was once on you disappeared.
“y/n!” you heard yeong-hu’ voice yell as your eyes became heavy.
“sarge..i” you just about managed to say before everything went black.
when you woke up, you were in your room back at the stadium. you couldn’t remember how you had gotten back. you tried to sit up but felt a sharp pain in your left shoulder and remembered the hideous creature that had bitten you. your shoulder was now bandaged up and you were in your pjs.
you noticed on your bedside table that your radio was there so you carefully went to reach for it. you then turned it on and spoke into it.
“hello? is anyone there? seok-chan?” you said into it but no one answered.
maybe they were busy?
with a sigh, you let yourself fall back onto your pillow. you were in a lot of pain. you closed your eyes and tried to see if you could remember what had happened after the creature had bitten you but it was of no use.
after a couple of minutes, you heard your door swing open and you lifted your head. you saw that it was yeong-hu.
it took you by surprise that it was him so you quickly sat up, ignoring the pain you were in. you cleared your throat and smiled politely at him.
“sergeant kim” you greeted but by his facial expression, you could tell he wasn’t in the mood.
what possibly could’ve made him in such a sour mood?
“how careless could you have been?” he suddenly raised his voice causing you to flinch in shock “do you know the position you put yourself in? you can’t just put yourself in harms way! do you understand how it affects the team? i had the situation handled and because you decided to step in. you not only hurt yourself but we had to leave the expedition early!”
you felt tears swell in your eyes. how cold could he be?
you only wanted to save his life. it wasn’t like you planned on getting hurt.
“im sorry sergeant” you voice was quiet. you didn’t want to argue and make things worse.
“sorry doesn’t cut it y/n! you’re a part of the crow platoon. you should know not to be so careless! i’m relieving you from your platoon duties. from now on just focus on providing medical attention to those who need it.” yeong-hu’ voice was harsh.
“you know what? i give up with you sar- to you, i can never do anything right. you’re always to cold and rude towards me! I’ve done everything in power to get you to try to like me and treat me like you do with the other platoon guys but it’s clear that i’ll never get your respect. so you can relieve me of whatever duties you want because i give up! now please get out of my room” you finally snapped, tears were streaming down you eyes now.
you dont know what overcame you but you stood up, ignoring all the pain in your shoulder and began to push yeong-hu out the room.
“get out” you were trying not to yell and eventually he walked out. you slammed the door behind him and broke down some more.
why was he so cold towards you.
the next couple of days, you avoided the platoon members as best as you could. you couldn’t handle facing them, especially yeong-hu. you felt embarrassed about everything that happened. seok-chan tried his best to talk to you and you appreciated it. you just didn’t want to get involved with the platoon, now that yeong-hu had basically banned you.
you got back to your doctor duties the day after your confrontation with yeong-hu. you wanted to keep yourself occupied. at first it was difficult due to your shoulder injury but you soon managed to navigate your way and treat the patients with one hand.
“it sounds like a vitamin deficiency to me, which can happen in these circumstances. take one of these pills everyday for the next two weeks” you told the guy in front of you as you handed him a bottle of vitamin pills “if after two weeks, you still have symptoms then come back and let me know”
the guy you helped quickly thanked you before leaving and you sighed. you were working longer hours in the infirmary now that it was the only thing you would be doing. you checked the time and saw it was quite late so you decided to call it a day.
you closed the infirmary door and put the sign up to say it was closed for the day and went to examine your own shoulder. this was the last thing you needed to do for the day. you replaced the bandage every day, you didn’t want to risk getting any infections but it was a hard job each time and it was never wrapped as tight as it should be.
you threw your shirt off leaving you in just your tank top. you held your breath as you began to peel away the bandages from the wound. after successfully removing it, you then grabbed some sterile water to flush the would out. this proved difficult to do. but you managed.
just as you were about to apply some cotton with some antiseptic solution on it, the door to the infirmary opened and when you looked to see who it was you gulped.
yeong-hu.
once he noticed you he turned on his heel to walk out again. you breathed out a small sigh as you turned your focus back to your shoulder. however, he then paused and turned back towards you, this time walking to you. you were too busy trying to apply the cotton.
you grit your teeth as it burnt ever so slightly and you jumped in shock after realising yeong-hu was now stood beside you.
“let me help” his voice was firm.
“i’ll be fine” you whispered not looking at him.
“y/n let me help” this time you gave in.
you let out a sigh and nodded. you hoisted your body onto the infirmary table and let yeong-hu give a hand. his touch was soft as he gently applied the antiseptic cotton onto your shoulder. his fingers occasionally grazed over parts of your neck and you held your breath as he began to wrap the main bandage over to cover your shoulder completely.
you couldn’t help but to notice yeong-hu’ facial features as he did this. was he always this good looking? his eyes remained focused in your shoulder, you never noticed how soft and round they were. his hands, delicately placing the bandage around your shoulder. you never noticed how large and gentle they were.
your heart was beating fast and you didn’t know why. once he was done putting the bandage on your shoulder. he traced his fingers over the bandage, proud of how neatly he did it. yeong-hu looked up at you and your eyes locked with his for a second. he then stepped back and rested his hands on his hips, clearing his throat.
“thank you” you whispered carefully putting your shirt back on.
“you’re welcome..look, y/n” he began and then let out a sigh “im really sorry for how i treated you. i respect you a lot, really. it’s not an excuse but i have a lot to handle right now and i can’t bare losing anyone else. so when you got hurt i took all my anger out in that moment and i shouldn’t have”
“i appreciate your apology but it doesn’t explain why you’ve always been so cold towards me. I’ve done everything in my power to try and prove myself but it never seems like enough” you felt yourself become emotional.
yeong-hu stepped closer to you, closing the gap that was between the two of you.
“trust me you’re enough. y/n you’re way more than enough” yeong-hu took your hand in his.
you both stared at each other, your heart thumped inside your chest as yeong-hu looked between your eyes and lips. you swallowed hard as yeong-hu then leaned forward and pressed his lips to yours.
you lifted a hand and placed it on his chest, debating if you were going to push him away but instead you felt yourself leaning into the kiss. yeong-hu’ hands moved slowly down your back to your hips and your one arm moved to wrap loosely around his neck. the position was a bit awkward since you couldn’t move your one arm but that didn’t matter. you both couldn’t get enough of each others lips. the kiss was filled with passion, love and need.
when yeong-hu finally pulled away, you were both slightly out of breath. you couldn’t help but break into a smile as yeong-hu let out a relieved sigh.
“wow” you said aloud, looking at yeong-hu.
he rubbed the back of neck as he then let out a happy chuckle before being serious again.
“y/n, i really like you. i’ve liked you since i met you and i can never get you out of my head. i don’t know if you feel the same but even if you don’t, please give me a chance to put everything right and show you how much i care for you” he put a hand on your leg and gently rubbed circles.
“i like you too yeong-hu. i always have, that’s why i always tried so hard to get you to like me like you did the others” you put your hand atop of his “of course you can have a chance…just don’t blow it”
“i wouldn’t dare”

you leaned against the cold wall with your arms crossed, waiting patiently for your brother seok-chan. having a brother who was a crow platoon member had its perks. the main one being, he would get you things that you needed when he went on expeditions.
this time was like no other, you had asked him for some new shoes and low and behold, seok-chan walked towards you with a pair in hand.
“do you know the trouble we went through to get you these?” he complained and you sent him a sweet but cheeky smile.
“thank you to my favourite brother and of course his lovely platoon members” you said the last part loud enough so some of the other platoon member could hear you.
“yeah yeah whatever, im your only brother” seok-chan playfully rolled his eyes and handed the shoes to you before wrapping you in a hug.
“im glad you’re back here safe and sound” you were being more serious now. you always worried when he went on these expeditions.
“i told you that i’d keep seok-chan safe and bring him back each time” yeong-hu appeared and tapped his friend on the shoulder.
“thank you very much sergeant kim. i hope he behaved himself” you playfully pinched seok-chan and he furrowed his eyebrows while dramatically rubbing his arm, acting like he was in pain.
“im always on my best behaviour, right sarge?” seok-chan straightened himself up and yeong-hu chuckled.
“if you say so” he let out a low laugh “anyway, i have other things to do. catch you both later”
you waved him a quick goodbye and then you and seok-chan made your way to the area where you stayed.
“ah, now i can relax” seok-chan let out an exaggerated sigh as he jumped onto his bed.
“no shoes on your bed, you know that! mum taught you better, it doesn’t matter if the world basically ended ” you threw your pillow on him and he groaned before kicking his boots off.
you smiled to yourself as you noticed him close his eyes. he was definitely tired.
you then sat on the edge of your own bed staring down at your current shoes. they were on their last legs. the sole had completely separated and the shoelaces were basically mere pieces of ripped string.
you didn’t waste time and took them off, chucking them to the side and slipping on your new shoes.
god, they felt so comfortable.
“thank you seok-chan!” you called out, appreciative of them.
seok-chan mumbled in his sleep and you jumped up and began to test them out. jumping up and down, sprinting on the spot and checking they definitely fit. mid-way through your tests, there was a knock at your door.
you paused what you were doing and opened the door. standing there, was yeong-hu. he had his hands in his pockets and when he saw you he quickly took them out.
“sergeant kim, how can i help?” you asked and he cleared his throat before speaking.
“y/n, is seok-chan there? i need to speak with him” yeong-hu looked behind your shoulder briefly.
“ah, he’s sleeping at the moment” you moved slightly so that he could get a better view of your sleeping brother.
“that’s fine, can you let him know when he wakes up that he needs to come to the briefing room so i can speak to him”
“will do” you nodded your head “do you want me to tell him anything else?”
yeong-hu shook his head to say no before looking down at your new shoes.
“oh and nice shoes y/n. looking good” he smirked slightly and you felt your cheeks warm up so, you quickly thanked him before closing your room door.
________________________________________________________
another few days quickly passed. your brother was due to go on another expedition and you were thinking about what to ask for. there were a couple of things that you needed but you needed to ask for the thing you needed the most so, you were sat trying to figure that out.
“what’s on your mind?” chan-young who was a member of the platoon asked as he took a seat next to you.
“im trying to figure out what to ask seok-chan to get me when he’s on his next expedition” you explained, showing chan-young your notebook with your list of 5 items.
“why would you need a turtle plushie?” he examined the list and let out a laugh.
“it wouldn’t be for me. it would be for sergeant kim, he’s always so kind to me and i want to gift him something”
“but, why a turtle?”
“he’s like a turtle don’t you think? hard on the outside but soft on the inside. he would do anything for the people he cares about even though he acts tough”
“huh, that’s pretty accurate actually. but why not just ask for everything on the list? im sure your brother wouldn’t mind getting all the items on there” chan-young raised an eyebrow.
“it wouldn’t be fair to ask for so much. would it?” you closed your notebook.
“you never know unless you try” he then jumped up “im going to get prepared for roll call, good luck with your list”
“thank you” you called out before opening your notebook once more and ripping the page with the list out.
you swiftly folded it up and went to look for your brother.
you checked all the usual areas but you just couldn’t find him. the only place left would be the platoon briefing room. you approached the room and gently knocked on the door.
“come on in” sergeant kim said aloud and you entered.
“sorry to disturb, i just needed to greet my brother before you all left” you apologised as all eyes were on you.
“that’s fine, we were just wrapping up so seok-chan you can step outside for a minute if need be” yeong-hu nodded his head.
seok-chan went to the side with you.
“good luck out there, make sure to come back in one piece” you smiled giving him a hug.
“will do sis, take care okay? also what do you want me to bring back for you?”seok-chan said and you handed him the paper.
“hopefully everything on there but if not, you can choose just one to bring back”
“of course, bye now” seok-chan quickly rushed away as the platoon members were now leaving to the vehicles.
yeong-hu was waiting at the door for him, you watched as seok-chan and him exchanged a few words. yeong-hu then sent you a smile and you waved before he disappeared through the door.
as the day went on, you did things to fill your day as you anxiously waited for the crow platoon to return. but as it got later and later, you couldn’t help but be worried. the platoon were never late to return and it was pushing past midnight.
despite trying to think happy thoughts, the worst outcomes kept on filling your head. so, you tried to distract yourself some more.
more time went on and they still hadn’t returned. you waited by the area in which they’d enter once they returned. you tried asking chan-young to give you updates but he was under strict orders to not say a word.
“don’t worry, they’ll be back soon. im sure of it” chan-young was waiting with you.
he knew you needed some company.
“they should’ve been back hours ago. what if something bad happened?” you gulped.
chan-young was never the best with comforting so he just waited with you. you appreciated it.
after some time, the sound of tires and yelling voices could be heard and soon enough the platoon members who were on the expedition were back but there was something wrong.
“hurry, he needs to get medical treatment!” yeong-hu’ voice was urgent as they entered through the door.
two platoon members were carrying someone who was unconscious and there was blood on their hands.
your heart dropped when you realised it was your brother that they were carrying.
“seok-chan!” you screamed as they all rushed towards the infirmary. you followed but once they entered the infirmary chan-young held you back.
“let go of me! i need to see my brother” you yelled, tears welling in your eyes.
“y/n, they need to treat him. you can’t go in” he explained.
“but he’s my brother! what if-” you couldn’t even finish the sentence as you stopped resisting and froze.
“that won’t happen , they’ll treat him and he’ll be back to health in no time” chan-young had finally let go of you.
silence filled the air as a million different thoughts consumed you. you sat on the floor and leaned against the wall near the door to the infirmary. your knees brought up to your chest as you waited. tears were streaming down your face and you picked the skin from your fingers.
some time passed and chan-young had to do his platoon duties so he had to leave you. you were all alone now.
that was until you heard footsteps approach.
when you looked up to see who it was you saw yeong-hu. he looked like he had been crying and had some blood from a wound on the side of his face, his upper arm had a large slash on it and his hands had blood on them.
“y/n..” he managed to breath out “im so sorry, it’s all my fault”
you wiped your tears and slowly stood up.
“what do you mean?” your voice was a whisper.
“seok-chan. i asked him to cover me as i explored an area of the mall we were at and the monster it came from no where. it just- it had claws and they were then just in him and we struggled to kill it. it just kept trying to- if i hadn’t asked him to cover me then maybe he wouldn’t be hurt. im sorry i couldn’t bring him back unharmed. im sorry” yeong-hu was holding back tears as he tried explaining what happened.
you couldn’t understand why he was apologising. it wasn’t his fault at all. monsters can just appear out of nowhere sometimes. everyone knew that. never would you blame him for your brother being badly injured.
“sergea- yeong-hu, it’s not your fault” a tear fell from your eye “you did all that you could, im grateful for that”
“i know, but i should’ve been able to keep him safe from getting injured. im really so sorry” yeong-hu apologised again.
you shook your head “dont apologise, its not your fault. really, im thankful for everything you’ve ever done”
without warning you wrapped your arms around his upper torso. he was taken aback by this and winced in pain slightly which caused you to step back.
“you’re hurt” you looked at yeong-hu closely and realised how bad his injuries were.
“i’ll be fine.” he tried to play it off but you shook your head.
“come with me” you told yeong-hu before quickly turning to look at the infirmary room door one last time- with hope that when you would be back later, that you’d be allowed in to see your brother.
he hesitated but you had taken his hand in yours. leading him to yours and seok-chan’ room.
you had some medical supplies in your room from the times, you had patched your brother up after certain expeditions. luckily, you knew first aid really well so you were quite skilful with certain medical procedures.
when you entered, you made yeong-hu sit in the edge of your bed. you weren’t bothered about getting the sheets dirty and got out the first aid kit.
a calm silence filled the room as you began to clean out the wound he had on the side of his head. and although, he was in pain yeong-hu kept up his tough face as you then stitched up the slash on his arm.
once done he sent you quick appreciative smile and the two of you never spoke a single word as you then brought some wipes to wipe the blood that was on his hands.
you gulped as you felt yeong-hu’ ínstense stare on you. he examined every inch of your face. how your eyebrows furrowed because you were so focused, how you constantly rubbed your lips together and how your eyelashes fluttered each time you blinked. your touch was so gentle and caring as you took your time wiping the blood off of his hands. he felt cared for.
yeong-hu continued to stare you as you finished off what you were doing, you were conscious of his eyes in you and when you looked at him and linked eyes, he quickly averted his eyes elsewhere. pretending to not have been looking at you. you cleared your throat and stepped back.
“there you go, how do you feel?” you gathered all the waste and shoved it into an empty plastic bag that you had.
“thank you y/n” yeong-hu stood up “i-“
just as he was about to continue, the room door flew open.
“seok-chan is awake!” a platoon member yelled and immediately you both ran to the infirmary.
in the infirmary bed, seok-chan was barely conscious. he had loads of bandages on him and he had an oxygen mask on.
“my favourite brother” you jokingly said with a sad smile before putting your hand on his.
he let out a small smile and tried to speak but you shook your head.
“you need rest” you then stood back as yeong-hu wanted to see seok-chan too.
“sarge” seok-chan managed to croak out and yeong-hu gave him a stern look.
“make sure to rest up, i’ll need my best soldier back” yeong-hu nodded his head “i’ll be back later to check on you”
without saying anything more he then walked out the infirmary. you were confused. you thought he was going to say more but, then of course it was yeong-hu and he was very unpredictable.
you stayed in the infirmary until seok-chan fell asleep. you then decided to head back to your own room but you took seok-chan’ bloodied uniform with you. you were going to wash it for him so that when he was better, he had uniform ready.
some of the items were not salvageable but you the main ones were. as you moved to wash his cargos, you felt something in his pocket. it was small and round and when you pulled it out, you saw what it was. a pocket-size turtle plushie.
you couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as you placed the plushie aside before finishing off the washing. once you were done, you hung the washing up to dry in a corner of your room.
you held the turtle plushie in your hand, gently stroking the soft fabric. a sigh escaped your lips, you just wanted things to go back to how it was.
you were sat on your bed, it smelt like yeong-hu. his scent was very distinctive, it was usually very musky which was now also mixed with the smell of blood.
you’d always found him attractive and seok-chan would even try to set you both up. while on one hand you would’ve accepted in a heart beat but on the other, you didn’t want to get so close and attached to someone else.
________________________________________________________
you sat beside the bed your brother was in, in the infirmary. it had been a few days and although he was still feeling weak, he looked a lot better.
he was still sleeping as you waited patiently, you didn’t want to wake him. you hummed to yourself, trying to pass time. suddenly, you heard the door open and saw yeong-hu.
he had tight fitted navy green shirt on, with it tucked into his cargos. the shirt fit his torso well and you could see the slight outline of his abs and his biceps flexed as he moved his arms. you must’ve been staring because he then cleared his throat.
“how is he doing?” he asked and you quickly turned to look back at your brother.
“a lot better, he’s just being very stubborn and not wanting to rest so whenever he’s sleeping i don’t wake him unless he needs to eat” you explained.
“i’ll come back later then” yeong-hu turned to leave.
“wait” your voice came out quieter than you wanted it to and you stood up and walked towards the door too “i wanted to speak with you actually”
yeong-hu was slightly surprised but nodded his head.
“we can talk while i walk you back to your room” he said and you both began to walk
for the first few minutes, you didn’t speak but then as you got closer to your room you decided to tell him what you wanted to tell him.
“i just want to thank you for everything you’ve done. really, im so thankful for everything you’ve done for my brother and i” you told him as you both finally approached your room “i’ve got something for you actually. wait here”
you hurriedly went into your room and grabbed the plushie.
“this is for you” you smiled holding out the plushie.
yeong-hu took the plushie from you, a smile creeping on his face.
“thank you” he breathed out-he was now grinning.
“i got you a turtle because you’re like one” you explained to which he raised an eyebrow “like a turtle, you have a tough exterior but on the inside you’re actually a softie”
“i’ll keep this close to me” he chuckled before putting the plushie in his pocket.
your heart beat pounded as you thought about what you were about to do next. you leaned up and pressed your lips onto yeong-hu’ cheek.
he froze for a second.
“take care y/n” he said with a nod, not looking at you before walking away.
you gulped.
had you made a mistake?
the following days, you tried to speak with yeong-hu but he completely avoided you. you didn’t understand why.
had you done something wrong by kissing his cheek?
you didn’t know.
seok-chan was now able to sit up in bed and you spent as much time as you could caring for him.
“i don’t understand, does he not like me back? i thought that now i’d give it a chance but maybe i was wrong to do so” you were ranting to seok-chan about the whole situation.
“quite the opposite actually, he’s just too coward to admit it” he sighed under his breath but you had managed to pick up what was said.
“what did you say?” your eyes went wide and seok-chan shook his head.
“nothing” he swallowed hard.
“you’re lucky you’re already injured or else i would’ve fought you to tell me everything you know” you warned your brother as you decided to head out to find yeong-hu.
you wanted answers and you wanted to be with him.
it took you a while but you found him. he was in his room and was surprised to see you standing at his room door.
“i like you a lot and i want us to be more than friends” you said it straight.
“y/n don’t do this” yeong-hu rubbed his jaw “you shouldn’t like me”
“why shouldn’t i? huh? you shouldn’t get so involved within my life that i start caring for you and then just try to act like you don’t know me!” there was hurt in your voice.
“it’s not that simple, you’re one of my- it’s inappropriate”
“but you like me, don’t you? otherwise you wouldn’t be saying anything”
you reached forward and took yeong-hu’ hand into yours. he accepted the touch and after a moment he held onto your hand and pulled you closer to him.
he took a deep breath in as he leaned down, his lips gently hovered over yours and you closed your eyes as he then kissed you. it was a short but sweet kiss and he rested his forehead against yours once it was over.
“of course, i like you” yeong-hu said in a low voice.
“so let’s be more than friends” you whispered and he paused.
yeong-hu then reconnected his lips and you smile into the kiss.
that was your answer.

Sweet Home: Yeong-hu x Y/N Fanfiction
The air inside the building was thick with tension. It had been weeks since they had taken refuge here, away from the relentless horrors that had transformed the world outside. Amid the chaos, though, Yeong-hu had managed to keep his group alive, protecting those under his command, including his wife, Y/N. They had been married long before the outbreak — a bond forged through love and tested by fire. In the apocalypse, it only grew stronger, and Yeong-hu had become fiercely protective of her, especially now when every step outside was a risk.
Y/N was the light in his life, the one thing that kept him grounded in the madness. As the leader of the group, Yeong-hu had to make tough decisions daily, and often those choices weighed heavy on him. But he always found comfort in knowing she was safe, always by his side.
It had been a long day when one of his men, Jin-soo, approached him. Jin-soo's girl, Min-ah, had been sick for days, the infection spreading fast. The situation was desperate. Jin-soo had come to Yeong-hu to beg for permission to go out and search for medicine.
"Captain, please. If we don’t get it… she won’t make it," Jin-soo pleaded, his voice shaking with fear and hope intertwined.
Yeong-hu ran a hand over his tired face, his jaw clenched as he weighed the options. The world outside was crawling with monsters, each more dangerous than the last. Sending Jin-soo out was dangerous enough. And yet, Yeong-hu couldn’t deny the man a chance to save the person he loved. He understood that feeling better than anyone.
“Fine,” Yeong-hu finally agreed, his voice firm. “But you’re not going alone. Take Dong-wook and Seung-ho with you. You’ll need backup.”
Jin-soo’s face brightened with gratitude. "Thank you, Captain."
Yeong-hu nodded. “Get in and out fast. Don’t take unnecessary risks.”
Hours passed after the group had left. The tension in the building only grew with their absence. Y/N had been quiet most of the day, something that hadn't escaped Yeong-hu’s notice, though he figured it was the stress of their current reality. He kept a close eye on her, always making sure she was safe.
But then… she was gone.
It happened too fast. One moment, she was with him, and the next, she had disappeared without a word. Panic surged through Yeong-hu’s veins. He combed through the building, shouting her name, his voice growing raw with each call.
“Y/N! Y/N, where are you?!”
The other survivors exchanged worried glances as they heard his frantic cries. No one had seen her leave. His heart raced, dread settling in his gut like a stone. She had always been stubborn, always wanting to help, even when the world was normal. But this? Going outside? Alone?
Dong-wook, one of his men, rushed up to him, his face pale. "Captain, Jin-soo's girl said something before she passed out… She told Y/N about a safe route to the pharmacy. Y/N said she was going to help get the medicine."
The world seemed to tilt on its axis.
"No," Yeong-hu growled, his fists clenched. "No, no, no…"
Without wasting another second, Yeong-hu grabbed his gear, his eyes burning with anger and fear. "We’re going after her. Now."
His men moved quickly, understanding the gravity of the situation. They had seen Yeong-hu in action before, but this was different. This wasn’t just a leader protecting his people. This was a man desperate to protect the love of his life.
As they stepped out into the night, the silence was eerie. The streets were empty, but the threat of the monsters lurked in every shadow. Yeong-hu moved quickly, his instincts razor-sharp. His mind raced with images of Y/N — alone, scared, vulnerable.
If anything happened to her…
He couldn’t even finish the thought.
The pharmacy wasn’t far, but it felt like an eternity before they reached it. When they finally arrived, his heart stopped for a moment. The front door was slightly ajar, a sign that someone had been there.
He stormed in, gun raised, his breath ragged. "Y/N?!"
A weak cough echoed from behind the counter. Yeong-hu’s chest tightened as he rushed over, his heart pounding in his ears. There, huddled on the floor, was Y/N, pale and trembling. Beside her was Jin-soo, barely conscious, clutching a bag of medicine.
“Yeong-hu…” Y/N’s voice was weak, but she smiled when she saw him. “I… I got the medicine.”
Yeong-hu dropped to his knees beside her, his hands shaking as he touched her face, inspecting her for injuries. “You’re hurt,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “What were you thinking?”
“I couldn’t let Jin-soo go alone. Min-ah… she’s dying,” Y/N said, her breath shallow. “I had to help.”
Yeong-hu’s jaw tightened, his anger momentarily eclipsed by the overwhelming relief that she was alive. “You could’ve died out here. Don’t you understand that?” His voice cracked, his emotions getting the better of him. He pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly, as if letting go would make her disappear.
“I’m sorry,” Y/N whispered, burying her face in his chest. “I didn’t want to scare you.”
"You scared the hell out of me," he muttered, pressing his lips to the top of her head. "You don’t ever do that again. Ever."
Before Y/N could respond, a low growl reverberated through the air. Yeong-hu's body tensed immediately. His grip on her tightened as he glanced at his men, signaling them to prepare for a fight. One of the creatures — the ones they had tried so hard to avoid — appeared at the pharmacy’s entrance, its grotesque form casting a long shadow over them.
The monster’s bloodshot eyes locked onto them, and in a split second, it charged. Yeong-hu barely had time to react, pushing Y/N behind him as he raised his gun, firing a shot at the creature’s head. It stumbled but didn’t go down, its gnarled limbs dragging it closer with terrifying speed.
"Get back!" Yeong-hu shouted, his body moving between Y/N and the monster.
His men sprang into action, firing in unison, trying to bring the creature down. The battle was quick but brutal, the sound of gunfire echoing through the deserted streets until finally, the monster lay still, a lifeless heap on the ground.
Yeong-hu stood there, panting, his heart still racing from the adrenaline. His first thought was Y/N. He turned to her, his eyes wide with concern.
“Are you okay?” he asked, cupping her face in his hands.
She nodded, her eyes filled with tears. “I’m fine, Yeong-hu. I’m sorry…”
But he didn’t let her finish. Instead, he pulled her into his arms again, holding her as tightly as he could without hurting her. His voice was raw with emotion. “You can’t do this to me, Y/N. I can’t lose you. Not in this world. Not ever.”
She rested her head against his chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart, a reminder that, despite everything, they were still here. Together.
“I promise,” she whispered. “I won’t leave your side again.”
Yeong-hu closed his eyes, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Good. Because wherever I go, you go. From now on."
The world outside might have fallen apart, but as long as they had each other, there was still hope.

Chapter One: A Stray in the Dark
The cold wind tore through the crumbling remains of Green Home, causing windows to rattle like the strained breaths of the survivors hiding within. Y/N crouched low behind an overturned table, her heart pounding as the sounds of nearby monsters echoed through the building’s hollow corridors. Her grip on the jagged piece of metal—her makeshift weapon—tightened, her fingers trembling from a mixture of fear and exhaustion.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
Two days ago, everything had seemed under control. They had secured the lower levels, the food supply was holding out, and the group had felt a small spark of hope. But hope was a dangerous thing in a world like this. A single mistake, one careless moment, had sent everything spiraling into chaos.
Now, Y/N was alone. The others had been scattered when a monstrous figure with unnaturally long limbs breached their defenses, leaving her no choice but to run. She had narrowly escaped the onslaught, but not without a cost—her leg throbbed, a deep gash running along her calf where a shard of glass had sliced her open during her frantic retreat. The blood hadn’t stopped yet, and if she didn’t find help soon, the wound would become another danger to her survival.
The bitter scent of decay filled her nostrils as she took in her surroundings. The hallway stretched endlessly before her, filled with overturned furniture, shattered glass, and the remnants of people’s lives now abandoned. She used to wonder what the tenants had been doing when the world went dark, how they had faced the apocalypse that turned their home into a nightmare. Now, she didn’t have the luxury of wondering. Survival was all that mattered.
Silence fell in the dark hallway, the quiet more unsettling than the growls of the monsters. Y/N’s breath hitched as she pressed her back against the wall, straining her ears for any signs of life. For the moment, the creatures seemed to have moved on, but that only meant they’d be back soon.
Her mind raced as she considered her options. She could try to make it back to the others—if they were still alive—but that meant risking an open run across the building. Or she could hole up in one of the empty rooms and hope they found her before the monsters did.
Neither option seemed promising.
A memory flared in her mind—Ji-su’s scream. It had been cut short, swallowed by the crash of debris, but it still echoed through Y/N’s thoughts, clawing at her resolve. She hadn’t seen what happened to Ji-su, but the terror in her voice was unmistakable.
Y/N squeezed her eyes shut, willing the memory away. She couldn’t afford to think about it. Not now.
The unmistakable sound of footsteps broke through her thoughts. They were light but deliberate, nothing like the thudding of a monster’s approach. Her pulse quickened as she gripped her metal shard tighter, peeking over the edge of the table.
A shadow emerged from the hallway, tall and cloaked in the darkness, moving with a sense of purpose. Y/N’s muscles tensed. Was it one of the group? Or a survivor she hadn’t seen before? She was prepared for a fight, but she wasn’t ready for who she saw next.
Kim Yeonghu.
The first thing she noticed was the heavy steel bat in his hand, glinting faintly in the dim light. He moved silently, scanning the hall with sharp eyes, his posture tense as if ready to strike at a moment's notice. His hair fell over his brow, soaked with sweat and streaked with dirt, but his face held a calm determination that sent a jolt of relief through Y/N. She’d heard about him from the others—a quiet, strong type who kept mostly to himself—but seeing him now, he seemed more like a ghost, appearing out of nowhere in her time of need.
Still, caution held her tongue. Trust was a luxury she couldn’t afford anymore.
As if sensing her presence, Yeonghu’s head snapped toward her hiding place. For a tense moment, they stared at each other—his dark eyes calculating, while Y/N’s breath caught in her throat. Slowly, she raised her hands, the jagged metal still clutched in her palm, though she lowered it to show she wasn’t a threat.
He hesitated, eyes flickering to the bloodied gash on her leg before stepping closer. Y/N flinched, instinctively retreating further behind the table. A small, bitter laugh escaped her lips. "You’re either here to kill me or save me," she muttered, half to herself.
Yeonghu crouched a few feet away from her, still keeping a safe distance. He looked her over, his expression unreadable. Then, without a word, he unzipped a small pouch hanging from his belt, pulling out a roll of bandages and some antiseptic wipes.
Relief and confusion mingled in her mind as she watched him gesture toward her leg. “Let me help.”
His voice was gruff, barely more than a whisper, but it held no malice. Just urgency.
Y/N hesitated, searching his face for any hint of deception, but all she saw was a weary kind of honesty. Nodding slightly, she shifted to let him near her leg, though she kept her weapon within reach. Yeonghu worked quickly, dabbing at the wound with careful precision. Despite the sting of the antiseptic, Y/N let out a quiet sigh. The throbbing pain in her leg lessened, replaced by a dull ache as he wrapped the bandages tightly around the injury.
"You were alone?" Yeonghu asked, not looking up from his work.
Y/N nodded, though her voice wavered when she responded. "I got separated from the others… something attacked us. It was… massive. I didn’t even get a good look before—" Her words faltered, and she swallowed hard, shaking off the rising panic. "I had to run."
Yeonghu’s face remained impassive, though his jaw tightened slightly as he finished wrapping her leg. When he stood, he offered his hand, the rough callouses brushing against her palm as he pulled her to her feet. She winced as weight pressed against her injury, but his grip was firm, steadying her.
“You can’t stay here,” he said, his voice low but certain. “There’s more of them coming.”
A shiver crawled up Y/N’s spine at his words. They were always coming. Always hunting.
“Do you know where they are?” she asked, glancing down the dark hallway. “The others?”
“I’m not sure,” Yeonghu said, slinging the bat over his shoulder and adjusting his jacket. “But this place isn’t safe. We need to move.”
Y/N knew he was right, even if every muscle in her body screamed for rest. Staying here meant death, and moving meant maybe, just maybe, a chance to survive.
“Let’s go, then,” she muttered, nodding to herself more than him.
Yeonghu didn’t need to be told twice. He began leading the way through the dark halls, his steps light yet purposeful. Y/N followed, limping slightly as she tried to keep pace. Her senses were on high alert—every creak, every shuffle, every faint rustle of the wind made her heart race. In a world as broken as this one, the smallest sound could be a death sentence.
They moved in silence, weaving through the maze of ruined hallways and shattered doors. The building seemed even more decrepit in the absence of light, the once-sturdy structure now little more than a skeleton of what it used to be. Stains covered the walls—blood, dirt, and other substances she didn’t want to identify—and the smell of rot hung heavy in the air.
Occasionally, they passed the remnants of old lives—a child’s toy discarded in a corner, a photo frame cracked and covered in dust. These reminders of the world before weighed heavily on Y/N’s chest, like ghosts clinging to the past.
Her thoughts drifted to the others: Ji-su, Eun-hyuk, Hyun-su. Were they still alive? Had they found shelter, or had the monsters torn through them the same way they had torn through everything else?
Y/N clenched her fists. No, she couldn’t think like that. Not now. They had survived too much already to be gone just like that. They had to be out there, somewhere.
As they reached a stairwell, Yeonghu paused, holding up a hand for silence. Y/N froze, her grip tightening on her metal shard, heart thudding loudly in her chest. She strained her ears, listening.
And then she heard it.
A low, guttural growl, followed by the heavy scrape of something moving nearby. The sound was sickeningly familiar. She’d heard it too many times since the world had collapsed around them.
Yeonghu’s jaw tensed as he motioned for her to follow him up the stairs. They moved quickly but quietly, trying to put as much distance as they could between themselves and whatever was lurking below. But the growling grew louder, more persistent. Y/N risked a glance over her shoulder and froze.
A grotesque figure emerged from the shadows below. Its body was bloated and misshapen, its skin stretched too tight over its bulging muscles. Red, glowing eyes fixated on them with a hunger that made Y/N’s blood turn to ice.
“Go!” Yeonghu snapped, shoving her forward as the creature let out a deafening screech.
Y/N bolted up the stairs, her injured leg screaming in protest with every step. Yeonghu was right behind her, swinging his bat as the monster charged after them, its claws scraping against the walls as it tried to close the distance.
As they reached the top of the stairs, Yeonghu spun around, his bat raised. The creature lunged at him, but he was ready. With a swift, powerful strike, he slammed the bat into its head, the impact sending the beast crashing into the wall.
“Run!” Yeonghu barked, not waiting to see if the creature was dead. Y/N didn’t need to be told twice. She stumbled down the hallway, her breath ragged as she pushed herself to keep moving.
Behind her, Yeonghu caught up, panting but unharmed. He grabbed her arm, pulling her into a side room, and quickly shut the door behind them. The sound of the monster’s snarling faded slightly as they locked themselves inside.
For a moment, the only sound was their labored breathing. Y/N leaned against the wall, trying to catch her breath, her whole body trembling from the adrenaline.
Yeonghu wiped a streak of blood off his cheek, his expression hard but calm. “We need to keep moving. That thing’s not dead.”
Y/N nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. “I know.”
The world outside the door was filled with danger, but in that moment, as they stood side by side, Y/N realized something. She wasn’t alone anymore—not really. Whatever happened next, she had someone watching her back.
And she’d fight like hell to make sure they both survived.

Out of the shadows

Title: Out of the Shadows
Y/N's POV
The base was quiet, too quiet. The familiar tension was heavy in the air, as it always was, but today it felt unbearable. I stood by the window, staring out into the night, the darkness stretching endlessly beyond the walls. The monsters had been unpredictable lately—sometimes attacking with vicious fury, sometimes silent, almost as if they were watching, waiting.
I needed air. I needed to escape this oppressive atmosphere, even if just for a moment.
I had thought about it for days—leaving the safety of the base for a brief walk outside. It was dangerous, sure, but something inside me craved that small taste of freedom, the feeling of stepping into the open without the suffocating sense of being trapped.
When I heard some of the other residents planning a quick supply run, I saw my chance. I slipped out with them, unnoticed, keeping my head low and moving in the shadows. The adrenaline coursing through me was both exhilarating and terrifying.
The streets were eerie, the silence unnerving. I knew it wasn’t safe, but I kept telling myself I’d be careful, that I’d stay close to the others. But as the minutes passed, I couldn’t shake the growing sense of dread creeping up my spine.
Then, the growls started.
Yeong-hu's POV
"Everyone’s accounted for?"
The roll call was routine, something we did every night to make sure no one had gone missing. It was one of the few things that gave me some semblance of control in this chaos. I stood by the entrance, arms crossed, watching as the residents murmured among themselves, waiting for the final check.
One of the residents came up to me, her face pale. "Uh… there’s a problem."
My eyes narrowed. "What?"
"It’s Y/N. She’s not here."
My heart stopped. For a moment, I thought I’d heard wrong, but the look on her face confirmed it. Y/N wasn’t there. She had gone out. Without me.
"Where the hell is she?" I demanded, my voice barely holding back the panic that threatened to overtake me.
"I—I don’t know. We think she went with one of the groups that left earlier."
My mind spun. You had left, and no one had noticed until now. How could they have been so careless? How could you have been so reckless?
Without another word, I grabbed my gear. I didn’t need a plan, didn’t need anyone’s permission. The only thing that mattered was finding you and bringing you back—alive.
Y/N's POV
The growls grew louder, closer. My heart pounded in my chest as I tried to move faster, the others urging me on. We had to get back. We had been stupid to think we could just sneak out without consequences, and now we were paying for it.
In the distance, I could hear the sickening crunch of one of the monsters moving through the rubble. The sound sent a shiver down my spine, and I gritted my teeth, willing myself to keep moving.
I darted into an alleyway, breathing hard, my chest tight with fear. The others had scattered, and now I was alone. The silence that followed was almost worse than the growls. Every shadow, every flicker of movement made me jump.
I had no idea where I was. I just knew I had to get back to the base before it was too late.
Yeong-hu's POV
I moved swiftly through the streets, my mind racing with every possible scenario. You could be anywhere—cornered, trapped, injured. And all I could think about was that I wasn’t there to protect you.
My grip tightened on my rifle as I stalked through the darkened streets, eyes scanning every shadow, every alley, searching for any sign of you. The city was a maze of ruins and danger, but I knew these streets well. I had to find you.
The growls echoed in the distance, reminding me just how close the monsters were. My chest tightened, fear clenching in my gut. You were out here, alone, with those things roaming the streets. The thought of losing you—it tore at me.
I should have been more careful. I should have kept a better eye on you. The world we lived in didn’t allow for mistakes, and this was one I couldn’t afford to make.
"Y/N!" I shouted into the darkness, my voice cutting through the eerie silence.
There was no answer. I kept moving, faster now, every minute that passed making my fear grow.
Y/N's POV
I crouched behind a stack of debris, listening intently. The sound of growling was getting closer again, and my heart raced in my chest. I knew I couldn’t stay here long, but I couldn’t run blindly either. If I made the wrong move, I’d be dead.
"Y/N!"
My breath caught in my throat. I knew that voice—Yeong-hu. Relief washed over me, and I stood, eyes scanning the shadows for him. I felt a surge of hope, but that hope was quickly replaced by fear. He had come out here, putting himself in danger, all because I had made a stupid decision.
"Here!" I called out, my voice trembling.
Within seconds, I saw him—Yeong-hu, standing at the entrance of the alley, his expression dark and intense. Relief flooded his features when he saw me, but I could see the storm behind his eyes. He was furious.
He rushed to me, grabbing my arm with a firm grip. "Are you hurt?" His voice was rough, edged with panic.
"No, I’m fine," I whispered, but the tension between us was palpable.
"We need to go. Now."
I nodded, knowing there was no time for apologies or explanations. Together, we sprinted back through the streets, the distant sounds of the monsters driving us forward. He didn’t let go of my hand the entire time, pulling me through the maze of the city until we finally saw the gates of the base.
Yeong-hu's POV
We made it back inside, the gates slamming shut behind us. I should have felt relieved that we were safe, but I wasn’t. I was still too angry, too shaken by the fact that you had been out there, alone.
I turned to you, my chest heaving with the effort of holding back my frustration. "What were you thinking?" I snapped, the words harsher than I intended.
Your eyes widened, and I saw the guilt written all over your face. "I—I just needed to get out. I thought I could help with the supply run."
"Help?" I repeated, incredulous. "You could have gotten yourself killed. Do you understand that? Do you know what it felt like not knowing if you were dead or alive?"
You lowered your head, and I immediately regretted the sharpness of my tone. I ran a hand through my hair, trying to calm the anger boiling inside me. It wasn’t just anger. It was fear. The thought of losing you scared me more than I wanted to admit.
"I’m sorry," you whispered, your voice small, full of regret. "I wasn’t thinking."
I sighed heavily, taking a step closer to you. "Do you have any idea what it would do to me if I lost you?"
You looked up at me, eyes wide with surprise. I wasn’t good with words, but I needed you to understand. I needed you to know how much you meant to me.
"Please," I said softly, my voice breaking a little. "Don’t ever do that again. You don’t get to take those kinds of risks, not with your life. Not when it’s you."
You nodded, tears brimming in your eyes. "I won’t. I promise."
Without thinking, I pulled you into my arms, holding you tightly, feeling the warmth of your body against mine. You were safe now. That’s all that mattered.
Y/N's POV
I melted into his embrace, the weight of the night finally hitting me. Yeong-hu held me as if he was afraid I’d disappear again, his grip tight but comforting.
"I’m sorry," I whispered against his chest, my voice thick with emotion.
His hand came up to the back of my head, fingers gently running through my hair. "I just need you to stay safe," he murmured, his voice soft, but the underlying fear was still there.
"I will. I promise."
In that moment, I knew how much he cared. This world was falling apart, and monsters roamed the streets, but as long as I had Yeong-hu by my side, I knew I could survive anything.

Into the chaos

Title: Into the Chaos
The walls of the base were starting to feel suffocating. Every day felt like it could be the last, and despite all the fear, the anxiety, the looming threat of monsters outside, I needed to get out—even if just for a little while.
The others were too focused on survival to notice when I slipped out. It was reckless, I knew that. But I wasn’t thinking about the danger. I was thinking about the fresh air, the night sky, and the brief taste of freedom.
With some of the other residents sneaking out for supply runs, it didn’t seem like too much of a risk to join them. They didn’t question it, figuring I needed the break as much as anyone. We moved in silence, every shadow and distant sound keeping us on edge, but I tried to shake off the fear.
Back at the base, everything was quiet—until it wasn’t.
Kim Yeong-hu paced by the entrance, his rifle slung over his shoulder, eyes scanning the surroundings. It had been a tense few days, and the weight of being the protector of the group was wearing on him. He wouldn’t let it show, though. That wasn’t his way.
One of the residents approached him cautiously. "Hey, Yeong-hu… they just finished the roll call."
He glanced over, already sensing something was off. "And?"
"There’s a problem. Y/N… she’s not here."
The blood drained from his face as the words sunk in. You weren’t there? His heart pounded in his chest as panic swelled, but he forced himself to stay calm, at least on the surface.
"Are you sure?" His voice was low, laced with barely contained worry.
The resident nodded. "She must’ve gone out with one of the other groups, but no one saw her leave."
Yeong-hu’s hands clenched into fists. He had told you to stay close, told you not to leave without him. This world was dangerous, even more so with monsters lurking in every dark corner. The thought of you out there, alone, with no protection—it drove him insane.
Without another word, Yeong-hu stormed toward the weapons locker, his mind racing. He couldn’t waste time; every second you were out there, your life was in danger. He grabbed his gear with swift, practiced movements, his breath growing shallow as fear gripped him tighter with every passing moment.
I was out in the open, the night air cool against my skin as I kept pace with the others. We had found some supplies, a few things we needed, but I could feel the growing tension in the air. The monsters had been quiet recently—too quiet. And that silence felt heavier than the chaos we were used to.
We were just about to head back when it happened.
A deep growl echoed in the distance, then another. The sound sent chills down my spine, and everyone froze. Eyes wide, hearts pounding, we turned to see figures moving in the shadows, their grotesque forms twisting in unnatural ways. Monsters.
"Run!" someone shouted, and we didn’t need to be told twice.
I sprinted with everything I had, but I could hear them behind me, closing in fast. Fear tightened my throat as I dodged through the broken streets, my mind screaming at me to find cover. I shouldn’t have left the base. This was a mistake—a huge mistake.
Back at the base, Yeong-hu wasnt thinking rationally anymore. He moved with a singular focus—find you. Nothing else mattered. His steps were quick and precise, and despite the chaos around him, his only goal was to bring you back, to make sure you were safe. He’d never forgive himself if something happened to you.
"Yeong-hu!" One of the residents tried to stop him as he prepared to leave the base. "You can’t go out there alone. It’s too dangerous!"
"I’m not leaving her out there," Yeong-hu snapped, his voice low and fierce. "Not while there are monsters crawling around."
"You don’t even know where she is!" The resident looked panicked, but Yeong-hu’s resolve didn’t waver.
"I’ll find her." His voice was hard, determined. "I have to."
Without waiting for any more protests, he stepped out into the night, the familiar weight of his rifle comforting but not enough to ease the knot in his chest. He moved swiftly through the streets, his eyes scanning every alley, every corner, every shadow. His heart raced with every minute that passed, and the longer he couldn’t find you, the more his mind spiraled.
I could barely breathe as I ducked into a narrow alley, trying to catch my breath. The others had scattered, and I had no idea where they were. My pulse hammered in my ears as the distant growls grew closer again. I needed to move, but my legs felt like lead.
And then, I heard it.
"Y/N!"
My heart skipped at the sound of his voice—Yeong-hu. Relief washed over me, but just as quickly, fear followed. If he was out here, that meant he’d left the safety of the base to find me. He was risking his life—again. All because I had been reckless.
"Y/N!" His voice was closer now, urgent, desperate.
"Here!" I called out, my voice shaky as I stepped out of the alley.
A shadow moved, and suddenly, he was there, his eyes wide with relief when he saw me. He closed the distance between us in a few long strides, his hands grabbing my arms as if to make sure I was real, that I was safe.
"Are you hurt?" His voice was low, but there was a tremor in it. He was furious, I could tell, but the relief in his eyes softened the anger.
"No, I’m fine," I managed, my breath still ragged. "But we have to go. Now."
The growl behind us confirmed it. We didn’t have time for explanations or apologies. Without hesitation, Yeong-hu grabbed my hand, his grip firm as he led me through the streets, weaving through the debris with practiced ease. He didn’t let go, not for a second, even as we sprinted back toward the base, the sounds of the monsters following close behind.
When we finally made it back, the gates of the base closed behind us, shutting out the horrors of the outside world. I collapsed against the wall, trying to catch my breath, but Yeong-hu was still standing, pacing back and forth, his face a mixture of fury and relief.
"What were you thinking?" he snapped, his voice sharp but edged with concern. "You could have been killed!"
"I just—" I started, but he didn’t let me finish.
"You promised me you’d be careful. That you wouldn’t take risks like this. Do you have any idea what could’ve happened out there?" His voice cracked, his frustration boiling over.
"I know, I’m sorry," I whispered, guilt weighing heavy on my chest. "I wasn’t thinking. I just wanted to help, but I didn’t realize—"
"You don’t get it, do you?" Yeong-hu interrupted, stepping closer, his eyes locking with mine. "If something happened to you, I—" He paused, his jaw clenching as he struggled with the words. "I wouldn’t be able to handle it."
His confession hit me hard, the weight of it settling between us. He wasn’t just angry because I’d put myself in danger—he was terrified of losing me.
"I’m sorry," I said again, softer this time. "I didn’t mean to make you worry."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair before pulling me into a tight embrace. His arms wrapped around me protectively, as if he was trying to shield me from the world. "Just… don’t do it again," he whispered against my hair, his voice softer now, more vulnerable. "I need you to be safe."
I nodded, my face buried in his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart against mine. "I promise," I whispered.
For now, we were safe. But in this world, safety was fleeting, and I knew that as long as the monsters roamed outside, Yeong-hu would never stop protecting me.
And I’d never stop needing him.

Chapter Eight: A Glimmer of Normalcy
The next morning brought a cool, crisp breeze through the park, a welcome change from the stifling heat of the city. Y/N awoke to the sound of birds chirping outside, a brief but comforting reminder of the world before the chaos. The day was clear, and the park’s natural beauty offered a rare moment of tranquility amidst the turmoil.
Yeonghu and Alex were already up, preparing breakfast and conducting their morning checks. The atmosphere was different from the tense urgency of previous days; there was a sense of cautious optimism as they settled into their temporary refuge.
“Morning,” Y/N greeted, joining them at the small makeshift dining area. The park’s serene environment had provided a brief respite from their constant vigilance, and she felt a renewed sense of calm.
“Morning,” Alex replied with a smile. “We’ve got a bit of a break today. We can use the time to explore the park and see if there are any additional resources or potential hazards.”
Yeonghu nodded, his focus on a small fire he was building for breakfast. “We’ll also need to reinforce the building further. The park is a good place to rest, but we need to be prepared for anything.”
As they ate a modest breakfast, the conversation turned to their plans for the day. The park had potential, but they needed to ensure it was safe and that they had everything they needed for the days ahead.
After breakfast, they set out to explore the park more thoroughly. The natural surroundings were a stark contrast to the desolate city streets they had traversed. The park’s lush greenery and occasional wildlife provided a brief escape from the harsh realities of their world.
“Let’s check out the area around the park,” Alex suggested. “There might be some useful resources or signs of other people. It’s good to get a sense of the surroundings.”
They moved cautiously through the park, their senses alert for any signs of danger. The park was larger than it had first appeared, with winding paths and secluded areas that offered both opportunities and risks.
As they explored, they came across an old playground that had been largely overtaken by nature. The swings and slides were rusted and overgrown, but there was a small storage shed nearby. Yeonghu approached the shed, carefully prying open the door.
Inside, they found a collection of tools and some old but still functional equipment. It wasn’t much, but it could be useful for their efforts in fortifying the building and maintaining their supplies.
“This is a good find,” Yeonghu said, examining the tools. “We can use these to make some improvements to our shelter.”
Alex nodded in agreement. “We should also check the surrounding area for any additional resources or signs of other occupants. It’s important to be thorough.”
They continued their exploration, finding a small, abandoned convenience store near the edge of the park. The store had been ransacked, but there were still some useful items left behind, including canned goods and bottled water.
As they gathered the supplies, Y/N couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Despite the challenges they faced, these small victories provided a glimmer of hope and a reminder of their resilience.
Back at their temporary shelter, they began to put their new resources to use. The tools from the shed were used to reinforce the building’s defenses, and the supplies from the store were carefully added to their stockpile.
The afternoon passed with a sense of purpose and productivity. The park, though still a reminder of their uncertain situation, had become a temporary haven that offered both comfort and utility.
As evening approached, they gathered around the small fire they had built. The conversation was light, focused on the small victories of the day and their plans for the future.
“We’ve made good progress,” Alex said, their tone relaxed. “The park has potential, and we’ve got some valuable resources. It’s a good place to regroup and plan our next steps.”
Yeonghu agreed, his expression thoughtful. “We need to stay vigilant, but it’s nice to have a bit of stability for now. It gives us a chance to focus on our long-term plans.”
Y/N looked around at her companions, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. The challenges they faced were daunting, but the support and camaraderie of her friends provided a small but significant source of comfort.
As night fell, they prepared for a quiet evening. The park’s natural surroundings created a sense of peace, and the occasional rustle of leaves was a soothing backdrop to their camp.
Y/N took a moment to reflect on their journey. The road ahead was still uncertain, but the progress they had made and the small victories they had achieved offered a sense of hope. The park, though temporary, had become a symbol of their resilience and adaptability.
As she lay down to rest, Y/N found a fleeting sense of normalcy amidst the chaos. The quiet of the park and the comfort of their temporary shelter provided a brief but welcome escape from the harsh realities of their world.
In the stillness of the night, Y/N closed her eyes and embraced the calm. The challenges they faced were far from over, but the support of her companions and the progress they had made offered a glimmer of hope for the future. For now, amidst the shadows and reflections of their world, there was a sense of peace and a renewed sense of purpose.
The next morning dawned bright and clear, a rare sight in their tumultuous world. The park’s tranquility was a welcome change from the constant vigilance of the city streets. Y/N awoke feeling refreshed, the brief respite providing a renewed sense of energy and purpose.
Yeonghu and Alex were already at work when Y/N emerged from the makeshift sleeping area. The two men were discussing their plans for the day, their voices low but filled with determination. The sense of camaraderie and shared purpose was evident in their interactions.
“Morning,” Y/N said as she joined them. “What’s the plan for today?”
Yeonghu glanced up from his map, a thoughtful expression on his face. “We need to continue reinforcing the building and ensure that it’s as secure as possible. We also need to start thinking about our next move. The park is a good temporary base, but we can’t stay here indefinitely.”
Alex nodded in agreement, pointing to a section of the map. “We should scout the area around the park for additional resources and potential hazards. If we can find a more permanent solution or a safer location, it could be beneficial.”
They spent the morning focusing on fortifying their shelter. The tools they had found in the maintenance shed proved useful as they repaired and reinforced the building. Every action was methodical and deliberate, ensuring that their temporary refuge would offer them the security they needed.
The day was also an opportunity for them to take stock of their situation. They carefully examined their supplies, noting what they had and what they still needed. The inventory they had compiled provided a clearer picture of their needs and priorities.
As the afternoon approached, they decided to take a break from their tasks and explore the park further. The weather was pleasant, and the park’s natural beauty provided a brief escape from their constant vigilance.
The trio set out on a leisurely walk through the park, their senses alert but their demeanor more relaxed. The park’s serene environment was a stark contrast to the desolation they had become accustomed to. The gentle rustling of leaves and the distant sounds of wildlife provided a sense of calm.
As they wandered, they came across a small pond nestled in a secluded part of the park. The pond was overgrown with reeds and water lilies, but it offered a peaceful spot for reflection.
“This is a nice find,” Y/N said, her voice soft. “It’s a peaceful change from the city.”
Yeonghu nodded, taking a moment to appreciate the scene. “It’s important to find moments of peace when we can. It helps keep our spirits up.”
Alex agreed, sitting down on a nearby rock. “We should make the most of this respite. It’s a rare opportunity to relax and recharge.”
They spent some time by the pond, taking in the tranquility and enjoying the brief escape from their daily struggles. The simple pleasure of being in nature was a welcome change, and it provided a moment of normalcy amidst the chaos.
As the sun began to set, they made their way back to their shelter. The evening was spent organizing their supplies and preparing a simple meal. The conversation was light, focused on the small victories of the day and their plans for the future.
“We’ve made good progress,” Alex said as they gathered around the fire. “The park is a good temporary base, and we’ve managed to find some valuable resources. We need to stay vigilant, but it’s a positive step forward.”
Yeonghu nodded, his expression thoughtful. “We’ve established a decent base here, but we need to keep exploring and planning for the long term. Our goal is to find a more permanent solution and ensure our continued safety.”
Y/N looked around at her companions, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. The challenges they faced were significant, but the support and camaraderie of her friends provided a small but meaningful source of comfort.
As night fell, they settled in for the evening. The park’s natural surroundings created a soothing backdrop to their camp, and the quiet of the night offered a brief moment of peace.
Y/N took a moment to reflect on their journey. The progress they had made and the small victories they had achieved provided a glimmer of hope amidst the uncertainty. The park, though temporary, had become a symbol of their resilience and adaptability.
As she lay down to rest, Y/N felt a renewed sense of purpose. The challenges they faced were far from over, but the support of her companions and the progress they had made offered a sense of hope for the future. For now, amidst the shadows and reflections of their world, there was a fleeting sense of peace and a renewed determination to face whatever lay ahead.
In the stillness of the night, Y/N closed her eyes and embraced the calm. The road ahead was uncertain, but the small victories and the strength of her companions provided a glimmer of hope. As she drifted off to sleep, she found solace in the belief that, despite the challenges, they were moving forward and that there was a chance for a better tomorrow.

Chapter Seven: Shadows and Reflections
The next morning arrived with a stark contrast to the previous day’s gloom. The sun peeked through the cracked windows, casting a warm glow over the safe house’s interior. Despite the promise of a fresh start, the weight of their situation hung heavily on Y/N’s shoulders. The reality of their journey ahead was an ever-present concern, and the uncertainty about what lay beyond the walls of their temporary refuge was both daunting and palpable.
Yeonghu was already up and preparing breakfast. His movements were purposeful and methodical, a sign of the steady resolve he carried despite the toll of their experiences. Alex was busy packing the last of their supplies, making sure everything was in order before they left the safe house.
Y/N rolled out of bed, stretching carefully to avoid aggravating her sore leg. The pain had lessened, but it still reminded her of the constant struggle they faced. She joined Yeonghu at the small table where he was setting out the remnants of their breakfast.
“Morning,” Y/N said, her voice still rough from sleep. She took a seat at the table, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face as she looked around the small room.
“Morning,” Yeonghu replied with a tired smile. “We’re almost ready to move out. Just need to finalize a few things.”
Y/N nodded, taking in the sight of the supplies and equipment scattered around. The safe house had served its purpose well, but it was clear that their time here was coming to an end. The road ahead was uncertain, but they had to keep moving.
Alex joined them with a cup of coffee for Y/N, a small gesture that spoke volumes about their consideration. “We’re set to go. I’ll lead the way to the next location on the map. It’s a bit of a trek, but it should be worth it.”
Yeonghu glanced at the map again, the sense of determination in his eyes. “Let’s review the plan one more time before we head out. We need to be prepared for anything.”
The plan was straightforward: they would leave the safe house and make their way to a new location that Alex had marked on the map. It was a slightly safer area, but still within the city, and they hoped it would provide another temporary refuge while they continued their search for a more permanent solution.
After a final check of their supplies, they gathered their gear and prepared to leave. The safe house, though modest, had provided a brief respite from the dangers of the outside world. As they stepped out into the morning light, the city greeted them with its usual desolation, a stark reminder of the world they now inhabited.
The journey began with a renewed sense of purpose. Alex led the way, navigating through the labyrinthine streets with practiced ease. The city, though still a dangerous place, felt somewhat familiar under Alex’s guidance. The areas they traversed were a mix of residential and commercial, their abandoned storefronts and empty homes a testament to the chaos that had once engulfed them.
As they walked, Y/N found herself reflecting on their situation. The weight of their loss and the uncertainty of their future were ever-present, but there was a sense of resilience that had emerged from their shared struggles. Each step forward was a testament to their determination and their ability to adapt to the new world they faced.
Yeonghu walked beside Y/N, his gaze vigilant as he scanned the surroundings. “We’ve come a long way,” he said, his voice low but steady. “Despite everything, we’re still here.”
Y/N nodded, appreciating his words. “Yeah. And we’re not giving up. We’ll keep moving forward, no matter what.”
Their conversation was interrupted by a sudden noise—a distant commotion that set their nerves on edge. Alex immediately halted, signaling for them to stay low and take cover behind a nearby wall. The noise grew louder, and they could hear the unmistakable sounds of shuffling footsteps and distant growls.
Yeonghu’s expression tightened with concern. “Sounds like we’re not alone. We need to be careful.”
Alex nodded in agreement, their face grim. “We’ll wait here until the noise dies down. If there’s trouble, we need to be ready to move quickly.”
They huddled behind the wall, their senses heightened as they waited for the commotion to subside. The sounds continued for what felt like an eternity, a constant reminder of the ever-present danger lurking in the city.
Eventually, the noise began to fade, leaving behind an unsettling silence. Alex signaled for them to move, and they carefully emerged from their cover. The streets were clear, but the tension remained. It was a reminder of how unpredictable their environment could be, and the importance of staying vigilant.
The rest of the day passed with a mix of cautious optimism and constant vigilance. They continued their journey through the city, navigating the abandoned streets and checking their surroundings frequently. The route was relatively uneventful, with only occasional signs of life—or rather, unlife—in the distance.
By late afternoon, they arrived at a small, nondescript building that Alex had indicated on the map. It was a former office space, now repurposed as a makeshift shelter by others who had come through before them. The building was less secure than the safe house but still offered a degree of protection.
Alex led them inside, their expression showing a mix of relief and concern. “This place should offer us some protection for the night. It’s not perfect, but it’s a step up from being out in the open.”
They settled into the building, taking stock of their new surroundings. The space was sparse but functional, with a few makeshift beds and a small stash of supplies left by previous occupants. It wasn’t as well-organized as the safe house, but it provided a temporary refuge.
As they unpacked and made themselves comfortable, Y/N found herself reflecting on their journey. The challenges they had faced and the dangers they had encountered were constant reminders of the harsh reality they lived in. But amidst the uncertainty, there was a sense of camaraderie and resilience that had emerged.
Yeonghu and Alex worked together to organize the supplies and secure the building. Y/N took a moment to herself, sitting by a small window and gazing out at the desolate cityscape. The world outside was a stark reminder of what they had lost, but it also served as a reminder of what they were fighting to protect.
As night fell, they gathered for a brief meal, the dim light of the building creating a somber but comforting atmosphere. The conversation was subdued, focused on practical matters and the plans for the coming days.
Y/N looked around at her companions, feeling a sense of gratitude for their presence. Despite the dangers and the uncertainties, they had managed to find moments of solace and support. It was these small victories that kept them moving forward.
As they prepared for the night, Y/N lay down on one of the makeshift beds, her mind still racing with thoughts of their journey and the challenges that lay ahead. Sleep came fitfully, her dreams a mix of fragments from her past and the uncertain future.
The night passed slowly, each creak and distant noise a reminder of the dangers that lurked outside. But within the walls of their temporary refuge, there was a brief sense of safety and hope.
In the morning, they would continue their journey, facing whatever challenges came their way. But for now, they had found a small measure of peace amidst the chaos, a reminder that, despite everything, they were still moving forward—together.
The morning light filtered through the grimy windows of the office building, casting a soft glow over the room. The harsh realities of their world had not softened, but the new day brought with it a glimmer of hope and a sense of renewed determination.
Y/N awoke to the faint sound of movement. She stretched slowly, the soreness in her leg a persistent reminder of their recent struggles. Despite the discomfort, she felt a quiet resolve. They had made it through another night, and that was something to build on.
Yeonghu and Alex were already up and going through their morning routine. Yeonghu was checking their supplies, ensuring everything was in order for their continued journey. Alex was preparing a simple breakfast, their movements efficient and practiced.
“Morning,” Y/N said as she joined them at the small table. Her voice was still groggy, but there was an undercurrent of determination in her tone.
“Morning,” Alex replied, offering her a cup of coffee. “We’re going to need all the energy we can get. Today’s going to be a long one.”
Yeonghu nodded in agreement, his focus on a map spread out on the table. “We’ve got a few options for where to head next. We need to decide on our route and make sure we’re prepared for anything.”
Y/N took a seat, taking a sip of the coffee. The warmth was a small comfort amidst the uncertainty. “What are the options?”
Alex leaned over the map, pointing to several locations. “We’ve got a few potential routes. There’s a residential area not too far from here that might offer better shelter, but it’s a bit of a detour. Alternatively, we can head towards an industrial zone where there might be more resources, but it’s riskier.”
Yeonghu considered the options, his brow furrowed in concentration. “The residential area could be safer, but it’s further away. The industrial zone might provide more supplies but could be more dangerous.”
Y/N looked at the map, trying to weigh the pros and cons. “I think we should prioritize safety for now. We’re still recovering, and the last thing we need is to push too hard and end up in a more precarious situation.”
Alex nodded in agreement. “We’ll go with the residential area. It might be a bit of a stretch, but it’s worth the risk.”
They spent the morning preparing for their journey, gathering supplies and ensuring they had everything they needed. The office building had provided them with a brief respite, but it was clear that their next move was crucial.
As they set out, the city outside felt both familiar and alien. The streets were quiet, the desolation a stark reminder of the world they now inhabited. Their route took them through a series of abandoned neighborhoods, each one more eerily silent than the last.
The walk was long and arduous, with the constant need to stay vigilant. The residential area they were heading towards was a mix of partially collapsed buildings and overgrown lots. It was clear that others had passed through here before, but it was relatively quiet compared to other parts of the city.
Around midday, they reached a small, fortified building that looked like it had been used as a temporary shelter by others. It was modest but appeared to be in better condition than many of the buildings they had passed.
“This looks promising,” Alex said, surveying the area. “Let’s check it out.”
They approached the building cautiously, Yeonghu leading the way with his weapon at the ready. The exterior showed signs of previous occupants—a makeshift barricade, a few discarded items—but it seemed relatively secure.
Yeonghu examined the barricade, noting its construction. “It looks like it’s been used recently, but it’s still holding up. We should be able to use it as a base for now.”
They carefully entered the building, taking note of its condition. The interior was sparse but functional, with a few pieces of furniture and basic supplies left behind. It was clear that it had been a temporary refuge, but it offered a degree of safety.
As they settled in, Y/N took a moment to explore the building. There was a small, clean room at the back that looked like it could be used for sleeping. She started to unpack some of their supplies, arranging them in a makeshift storage area.
Yeonghu and Alex went about securing the building and setting up a perimeter. They worked efficiently, their movements a well-practiced routine. The sense of purpose and teamwork was evident, a small but significant source of comfort amidst the chaos.
Later in the afternoon, as the sun began to dip towards the horizon, they gathered to discuss their plans. The new location provided a temporary haven, but they needed to ensure they were prepared for any potential threats.
“We’re safe for now, but we can’t afford to let our guard down,” Yeonghu said as he reviewed their supplies. “We need to be ready for anything that comes our way.”
Alex nodded, their face serious. “We’ll need to establish a watch schedule and keep an eye on the surrounding area. This place might be secure, but the city is unpredictable.”
Y/N joined them at the table, her leg propped up as she rested. “We should also think about our long-term plans. This place is a good stop, but we need to keep looking for a more permanent solution.”
Yeonghu agreed. “Absolutely. We need to stay focused and adaptable. The next steps will be crucial.”
As night fell, they prepared for a quiet evening. The building was secure, and the immediate threat seemed to be at bay. They shared a simple meal, the conversation focused on practical matters and the next steps in their journey.
The quiet of the evening provided a brief moment of normalcy. Y/N found herself reflecting on their journey, the challenges they had faced, and the uncertainties that lay ahead. The world outside remained a constant reminder of their struggles, but within the walls of their temporary refuge, there was a sense of hope and resilience.
As they settled in for the night, Y/N found a moment of solitude. She sat by a small window, gazing out at the cityscape bathed in the soft light of the moon. The world outside was a mix of shadows and silence, a stark contrast to the life they had known.
In the stillness of the night, Y/N found a sense of calm amidst the chaos. The road ahead was uncertain, but as long as they faced it together, there was hope. The challenges they faced were daunting, but their resolve and camaraderie provided a glimmer of hope for a better tomorrow.
As she lay down to rest, Y/N closed her eyes and embraced the quiet. The journey was far from over, but the small victories and the support of her companions offered a sense of purpose and determination. For now, amidst the shadows and reflections of their world, there was a fleeting sense of peace and hope.
The night passed uneventfully, and Y/N awoke to the soft light of dawn filtering through the windows. The quiet of the building provided a stark contrast to the chaotic world outside. Despite the comfort of their temporary refuge, the uncertainty of their situation lingered like a shadow.
Yeonghu and Alex were already up and preparing for the day. The familiar routine of checking supplies and discussing plans provided a sense of stability amidst the instability of their world.
“Morning,” Yeonghu greeted Y/N as she emerged from her makeshift bed. “We’re going to need to make sure everything is secure before we move on.”
Alex was at the small table, carefully packing away the remaining supplies. “We should take a quick inventory and ensure we have everything we need for our next leg of the journey. We’ll also need to consider our route and any potential risks.”
Y/N nodded, stretching her limbs and taking a moment to wake fully. “I’ll help with the inventory. It’s important to keep track of what we have.”
They spent the next hour going through their supplies, making sure everything was in order. The process was methodical but necessary. Each item was checked and cataloged, and they made a list of what they needed to restock.
With their inventory complete, they gathered around the table to discuss their plans. The day was clear, and the city outside seemed calm, but they knew that appearances could be deceiving.
“The residential area we’re in is relatively safe for now,” Alex said, pointing to the map. “But we should consider our next move. There’s a potential route through a park area that might offer better shelter and resources.”
Yeonghu studied the map carefully. “The park could be a good option. It’s further from the more dangerous parts of the city and might provide some natural cover. But we need to be prepared for any potential threats.”
Y/N added her thoughts, her mind still processing their options. “It might also be worth checking for any nearby safe zones or communities. If we can find a more established place, it could provide more long-term security.”
Alex nodded in agreement. “That’s a good idea. We’ll need to keep our options open and stay flexible.”
After finalizing their plan, they prepared to leave the building. The sense of urgency was palpable as they gathered their belongings and ensured everything was in order. The city outside awaited them, a stark reminder of the world they now lived in.
The journey to the park area was uneventful but tense. The streets were quiet, the occasional distant noise a reminder of the ever-present danger. They moved cautiously, their senses alert for any signs of trouble.
As they approached the park, the contrast to the surrounding city was striking. The park was overgrown but still held a semblance of its former self. The trees and greenery provided natural cover, and there were a few structures that might offer shelter.
“This could be a good place to set up for a while,” Yeonghu said, surveying the area. “The natural cover and open space provide both advantages and risks.”
Alex agreed, their gaze scanning the park for potential threats. “Let’s explore the area and see if we can find a suitable location. We’ll need to be cautious and check for any signs of other occupants.”
They carefully made their way through the park, checking the surrounding area for any potential dangers. The park was eerily quiet, the only sounds the rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of birds. The overgrown vegetation provided a sense of concealment, but it also made it difficult to see far ahead.
As they explored, they came across an old, dilapidated building that seemed to have been used as a maintenance shed. It was partially intact and offered some shelter from the elements. The building was in better condition than many of the other structures they had seen.
“This might work,” Alex said, inspecting the building. “It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. We can use it as a base and make it more secure.”
Yeonghu nodded in agreement. “We’ll need to fortify it and clear out any debris or potential hazards. But it’s a good find.”
They set to work, making the building as secure as possible. Yeonghu and Alex worked on reinforcing the entrances and windows, while Y/N took on the task of clearing out the interior and organizing their supplies.
As the day wore on, their efforts began to pay off. The building started to take shape as a temporary refuge, offering a sense of security amidst the uncertainty. The natural cover of the park provided an additional layer of protection, though they remained vigilant for any potential threats.
By evening, the building was reasonably secure, and they gathered to discuss their plans for the coming days. The park offered a temporary haven, but they knew they couldn’t afford to become complacent.
“We’ve made good progress today,” Alex said, their tone thoughtful. “The park gives us a chance to regroup and plan our next steps. We need to stay alert and keep an eye on the surrounding area.”
Yeonghu agreed, his expression serious. “We’ll need to establish a watch schedule and keep the perimeter secure. The park offers some safety, but we can’t let our guard down.”
Y/N took a moment to reflect on their progress. The challenges they had faced and the dangers that lay ahead were daunting, but there was a sense of resilience and hope that had emerged from their shared struggles.
As night fell, they settled into their temporary refuge. The building, though modest, provided a sense of comfort and safety. The quiet of the park was a stark contrast to the chaos of the city, offering a brief moment of peace.
They shared a simple meal, the conversation focused on practical matters and their plans for the coming days. The camaraderie and support of her companions provided a small but significant source of comfort amidst the uncertainty.
As Y/N lay down for the night, she found a moment of solitude. The park outside was bathed in the soft light of the moon, the darkness broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves. The world outside was a mix of shadows and silence, a reminder of the challenges they faced.
In the stillness of the night, Y/N closed her eyes and embraced the quiet. The road ahead was still fraught with challenges, but the small victories and the support of her companions offered a glimmer of hope. For now, amidst the shadows and reflections of their world, there was a fleeting sense of peace and a renewed sense of purpose.
