Vivienne thought - there's something gender about how she chooses to present herself in more masc-aligned (by orlesian high society standards) glamed-up military-like garb rather than dress/robe when in court...
i'm not really sure if i'd agree with this one, actually! vivienne's outfit to me does not present as being masc-alinged whatsoever, even when taking orlesian gendered fashion into account. i'd say that vivienne is extremely high femme, with the only hints towards anything otherwise being the shoulders of some of her outfits being exaggerated. she's not wearing a dress, sure, but the detailing on all of her outfits, the chest window, the lace, the long nails and makeup, the heels, the pearls, the way her coat flares out to give her a more hourglass figureβ it's all very femme and not something we see with any of the men. i do definitely think vivienne tries to make herself appear more physically imposing by making herself taller with her heels and hennin, and then giving herself a wider silhouette with the flare of her collar and her sleeves being puffy/having shoulder pads, but it's nothing i'd say leans towards her wearing anything masc. i just think she chooses not to wear a dress because she either dislikes them or because she's a battle mage! the orlesian court is always a danger, and she'd have a much easier time fighting if she doesn't have to worry about tripping over her own outfit
