#yaoyorozu's situation would still be fucked if she wasn't a high schooler bc of the whole non-consent thing

Re-reading the bnha manga and... ughhhh
Why can't horikoshi at least stick to sexualising the adults? The way he writes the teenage girls is so gross, especially yaoyorozu. A lot of the discussion is about her costume (which is a whole other bag of worms), but I'd argue that it's creepy because a lot of the time she's being sexualised against her will by mineta or kaminari (and no, the story does not ever criticise it beyond mineta occasionally getting slapped). The opening illustration for the 4th volume is her looking unhappy in a cheerleader outfit that she got tricked into wearing, and even THAT is sexualised through her pose, outfit the perspective from which it's drawn. It's not even that consistent with canon because in the actual manga it's stated that there's time for her to change back into her gym clothes and that she doesn't have any obligation to stay there. So it's pretty apparent that the author is just doing it because he gets off to the idea of her being uncomfortable, I guess
Mineta's introduction page mentions that horikoshi tried to find a "balance" because he knew a lot of people don't like perv characters... this is his idea of a balance?? Ugh
#yaoyorozu's situation would still be fucked if she wasn't a high schooler bc of the whole non-consent thing#but at least she wouldn't be a child!!#I'm not really that against characters like midnight being sexualised because even if yeah it's for the sake of the author#at least she's CHOOSING to sexualise herself... at least he writes her with AGENCY#(though it does get boring when so many of his female characters are like that)#but. yeah. I know I'm not exactly saying anything new here#I like bnha. it's just a shame that in order to be a fan of literally any anime you have to deal with the author being a creep#what is it with old men being weird about young girls
