Get This, Larry Silverstein The Man Who Purchased & Insured The Twin Towers 6 Months Before 9/11, Was In A “Big Hurry” To Close The Deal
The deal was so important & needed to be done so quickly he was hospitalized but asked to be taken off morphine so the deal could be finalized “
The stalemate was broken when a real estate tycoon named Larry Silverstein who already owned Building 7 offered to purchase a 99 year lease for the Twin Towers.
— Silverstein seemed in a big hurry to close the deal. Even though he had been hospitalized for a car accident during the bidding operations, he asked his doctors to take him off the morphine so the deal could be finalized.
So I told the doctor, I said, kill the morphine, and I got gotta get my people in here because you can't think with morphine. So they let the morphine run down. The pain was terrible, and but I brought everybody together, and that's when we famed our our best and final bid.
On July 24, 2001, Larry Silverstein celebrated the acquisition of the Twin Towers with a public ceremony.
Silverstein signed the lease on the World Trade Center just 6 weeks before 9 11.
He then took out an insurance policy covering the Twin Towers for $3,200,000,000 in case of total destruction. Silverstein then began spending every morning of the week in his new office in the North Tower.“
But not on 9/11….
Lucky Larry Silverstein:
- Acquires 99-year lease for Twin Towers just 6 weeks before 9/11 - Insures both towers for $3.2 billion against acts of terrorism and ensures he can build new WTC complex if destroyed.
- Wife allegedly convinces him to attend dermatologist appointment on morning of 9/11 instead of scheduled meeting in North Tower
- Twin Towers attacked, collapsing to dust along with his other skyscraper (WTC 7), all plummeting at near free-fall speed
- Files insurance claim for $7 billion, arguing attacks on Twin Towers consisted of 2 separate events thus double compensation required
- Settles for $4.5 billion compensation on Twin Towers and collects millions in other insurance payouts - Builds new WTC complex

World Test Championship
The World Test Championship (WTC) represents a significant evolution in the landscape of Test cricket, introducing a competitive league format that culminates in a final to determine the world champion. This blog will delve into the intricacies of the WTC, its current standings, and what lies ahead for the participating teams. For detailed insights on the current points table and standings, visit Hexahome's World Test Championship Points Table.
Introduction to the World Test Championship
The WTC was established by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to provide context to Test series played between nations. Launched in 2019, it aims to enhance the relevance of Test cricket in an era dominated by limited-overs formats. The ongoing cycle began in June 2023 and will conclude with the final scheduled for June 2025 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London. Nine teams are competing, and each match contributes to their standings on the WTC points table.
Understanding Points Allocation
Points in the WTC are awarded based on match outcomes:
12 points for a win
4 points for a draw
6 points for a tie
0 points for a loss
Teams can also incur penalties for slow over rates, losing one point for each over they fall short of the required rate during a match. The Points Percentage (PCT) system ranks teams based on their performance relative to total points contested, ensuring fairness across varying numbers of matches played.
Current Standings and Key Teams
As of December 18, 2024, the standings reflect intense competition: Pos Team Matches Played Wins Losses Draws Points PCT (%) 1 South Africa 10 6 3 1 120 63.33 2 Australia 15 9 4 2 180 58.88 3 India 17 9 6 2 114 55.88 4 New Zealand 14 7 7 0 81 48.21
South Africa currently leads with strong performances, while Australia and India remain formidable contenders. The upcoming fixtures will be crucial in determining which teams secure a spot in the final.
India's Journey in the WTC
India's performance has been under scrutiny due to their rich history in Test cricket. Their chances of qualifying depend heavily on their remaining matches against Australia. A strong finish could see them accumulate up to 138 points, significantly improving their PCT and qualification chances.
Recent Matches Impact
India's recent draw with Australia at Gabba was pivotal. If they win both remaining matches against Australia, they could solidify their position; however, drawing or losing could jeopardize their chances if other teams perform well.
Australia's Dominance
Australia has shown consistent dominance throughout this cycle, with nine wins from fifteen matches. Their upcoming matches against Sri Lanka will be critical as they aim to maintain their position near the top of the table.
Fan Engagement and Future Prospects
The WTC has successfully increased fan engagement with Test cricket through heightened interest and viewership. Fans are closely following each match, creating an electrifying atmosphere around the tournament.
Conclusion: The Road Ahead
As we approach the final stages of this WTC cycle, every match will significantly impact standings and qualification scenarios. Teams like India and Australia must perform exceptionally well to secure their places in the final. The journey toward ultimate Test cricket glory continues as fans eagerly await crucial upcoming fixtures.

India vs Pakistan Cricket Series in Australia? Cricket Australia Hopes So
The long-standing cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan has been limited to ICC tournaments since their last bilateral series in 2012–13. However, Cricket Australia (CA) is keen on changing that by hosting a bilateral series between the two cricketing giants in Australia.
Cricket Australia’s Proposal
Nick Hockley, Chief Executive of Cricket Australia, has expressed a strong interest in facilitating an India vs Pakistan bilateral series down under. During a media interaction with The Indian Express, Hockley stated, “If we can play a role in helping and facilitating the India vs Pakistan bilateral series, we would be more than happy to do so.”
Historical Context and Recent Matches
The most recent encounter between India and Pakistan occurred during the 2024 T20 World Cup group stage in New York, where India emerged victorious by six runs. India, led by Rohit Sharma, went on to win the trophy, while Pakistan, under Babar Azam, were knocked out in the group stage.
This followed another thrilling match at the 2022 T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where a crowd of 90,293 witnessed a last-ball victory by India. This exciting encounter has fueled interest from both the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Victorian government in hosting future bilateral matches at the MCG.
Scheduling and Future Plans
While formal discussions have not yet taken place due to scheduling constraints, Hockley has reiterated CA’s willingness to host the series. “Given the schedules, we haven’t had formal discussions in that regard, but we have said it on the record that we will be happy to host the India vs Pakistan bilateral series,” Hockley said.
The Future of ODI Cricket
Hockley also touched on the future of One Day International (ODI) cricket. Despite Australia being the defending champions, he emphasized the need for bilateral ODI series to have meaningful contests to maintain their relevance. “The ODI World Cup which India hosted last year was fantastic. I think the ten-team format, where every game counts is excellent,” he noted.
Hockley suggested that bilateral ODI series should have consequences similar to the World Test Championships to ensure each match carries weight. “Each series must have consequences, like the Test matches, which help you to progress in the World Test Championships (WTC) finals. We need something similar for the white ball format, be it the rankings or other factors that relate to qualifications for the World Cups,” he added.
Looking Ahead
From Cricket Australia’s perspective, the importance of maintaining all three formats of the game is clear. Hockley emphasized that each bilateral series should contribute to World Cup qualifications, ensuring every match holds significance.
The prospect of an India vs Pakistan bilateral series in Australia is an exciting one, potentially rekindling one of cricket’s greatest rivalries on neutral ground. Cricket Australia’s interest signals a possible new chapter for international cricket fans eagerly awaiting such iconic matches outside ICC events.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, achieved his tenth century during India's first innings. With his 103 off 221 balls, the Mumbai batsman returned to the top 10 in the ICC rankings for Test batters. He rose three positions to No. 10, just ahead of the injured Rishabh Pant (No. 11). The patient Virat Kohli, who achieved 76 runs in the match, is ranked fourteenth.

Former Indian Cricketer Sourav Ganguly shatters the theory’ behind the defeat in the WTC final with a powerful 'Rahane' remark
The Indian cricket team faced a disappointing defeat in the finals of the World Test Championship earlier this month. Australia's cricket team, led by Pat Cummins, defeated India by 209 runs, as India was looking far from their best in a weak performance at The Oval.
All members of the Indian squad bar Cheteshwar Pujara arrived in England shortly before the WTC Final that too in different batches because of respective schedules in the 2023 Indian Premier Leagueand after the loss, the Indian team management was criticised for not allocating enough time to adapting to English conditions.
In an interview, former India captain Sourav Ganguly opened up about the debate that the Indian team was undercooked due to the IPL. Ganguly said, "I don't agree with this theory. Ajinkya Rahane also played in the IPL, and he played very well during the IPL and World Test Championship finals. So I don't believe in this theory. Some of the Australian boys (Cameron Green, David Warner) played well in the IPL and did well in the World Test Championship."
He further added that, After the IPL finished, there was enough time to acclimatise to Test cricket. They went to England, and they played. It used to happen in the past. You played ODI cricket and you played Test cricket; things used to happen very, very quickly, so I don't believe it's an issue. So I believe that even if you play IPL, you should have the ability to adjust your technique and temperament and do well in a Test match."

[ad_1] With KL Rahul getting ruled out of IPL 2023 due to an injury midway through the season, the Lucknow Super Giants captain has been replaced by Ishan Kishan for the upcoming World Test Championship final clash vs Australia. The WTC final is scheduled to take place next month at The Oval in London. Michael Vaughan feels the BCCI should have named Yashasvi Jaiswal instead of Ishan Kishan, as KL Rahul's replacement. Rahul sustained an injury to his right-upper thigh while fielding during his side's match vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in Lucknow on May 1. The BCCI in a statement revealed, "After consultations with specialists, it has been decided that Rahul will undergo surgery at the earliest followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy for the same. He is ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia." Before BCCI's statement, Rahul had already revealed that he won't be able to play in the WTC Final. With the Indian cricket board selecting Kishan as Rahul's replacement, pressure will be on the Mumbai Indians star, who has fallen down the pecking order in the Indian squad. Despite Kishan finding some form in IPL 2023, former England captain Michael Vaughan named another player, who should have been named as replacement. Taking to Twitter, Vaughan wrote, “I would have selected @ybj_19 as KL Rahuls replacement for the World Test championship final … He is that good .. he is going to be a superstar .. #India.” Jaiswal has been in hot form this season for Rajasthan Royals, and it was well-reflected in their latest league match on Thursday. Chasing a target of 150 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, RR raced to 151/1 in 13.1 overs, courtesy of a knock of 98 runs off 47 balls by Jaiswal. Initially, KKR had posted 149/8 in 20 overs, with Venkatesh Iyer (57) bagging a half-century. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets for RR.Jaiswal is also second in the Orange Cap race, but is only one run behind leader Faf du Plessis. The young opener has smacked 575 runs in 12 matches, at an average of 52.27 and 167.15 strike rate. His high score is a 124-run knock, and in total, he has bagged a ton and four half-centuries. Meanwhile, RCB skipper Du Plessis has slammed 576 runs in 11 matches, with a strike rate of 157.80 and 57.60 average. The South African has also grabbed six half-centuries.
