I haven't been to the beach in a long time. Most of my time was spent playing games, going to school, and working at the call center. Day in. Day out.
Today is my only off day in two months where I don't have to go to school nor work in my too small shirt. They never make shirts that fit me, either too tight or too baggy. It's because of my lumps that are all over my back and fore arms. I'd rather wear my tank top, but that isn't professional.
I'm wearing it now, along with my too short shorts as I lumber out of the bus with my duffle bag slung over my shoulder. I walk to the beach, and dirt turns into sharp glass under my feet. Not jagged enough for my tough bipedal form, just like I was a kid, playing around happily on the twinkling glass beaches and the green sea.
As I walk further in I pause, the glass isn't in it's usual fine form, instead it's like walking on porcelain plates. I stop my red hairy feet in attempt to break it.
It didn't shatter.
Frowning, this is the one thing I enjoy, feeling the glass graze across my durable skin, massage my stress and lacking sunlight induced lumps, and take home the thickest piece I can find as a memento. Seems like the glass sits all the way to the bedrock and I scoff.
"Here I thought I can have a relaxing day out by the water." I mutter as I turn my gaze to the sea water.
Instead of the beautiful murky green I just see a black sludge marring the beautiful glass surfacd.
"This is why I can't have nice things," I whisper under my breath before shouting at the sea. "Why can't you be like us humans water?! We adapted! Our skins are nice and durable, we don't get burned because of it! Lumps are great because we know when something is wrong, either not enough vitimin d or stress induced! You, you turn a shitty black and most of the nice bits of glass is solid!"
"Shut up man! You're not the only one pissed," a woman yells at me with her deep voice.
"Well I hate it!"
"Well curse your anscestors for ruining a good beach then or try to fix the problem!"
"It can't be fixed!"
"That's what you think."
"What?"
"If you get started now with other people maybe the beach will be back to its former glory."
Green water and brittle glass that massages your aching muscles? Sign me up.
You didn’t think global warming was that bad, that is until you go to the beach and there’s no sand. Just…. glass…
