When Kaeya had been warned about the dangers of the desert, he expected the heat to be absolutely sweltering paired with the usual presence of hilichurls. He was prepared for both, wearing light clothing that still covered his skin properly, and he knew that hilichurls would not be a problem—but what he found out was that there was a lot more to it.

The desert is one of the most diverse biomes out there. Non-natives of the desert always seemed to believe that it was an arid wasteland with nothing to it, but no. It was teeming with life, from humanoid, to bestial, to even mechanical. He knew he shouldn’t have underestimated locale, considering he has read up on it quite often, and yet here he was anyway, facing off against a wenut that they encroached the territory of.

At the very least, he was not facing this predator alone. Kaveh, ever so kind, had come along with Kaeya out of his own volition. When the Mondstadtian mentioned wanting to visit the desert in hopes of locating…something, it appeared that the architect was adverse in allowing him to go alone. Thus, here they were now, dancing along the sand clumsily as they attempted to avoid the wenut that was breaching the spots where they stood, trying to impale them.

It was difficult trying to find good footing with how slippery the dunes were, and it was exhausting them rather quickly. The heat of the sun beating down on them certainly didn’t help, and they were both quickly getting worse for wear. Kaeya himself was already sporting some wounds, his clothes torn here and there as blood trailed after him, which seemed to only frenzy the apex predator further. His mind was running miles per second, attempting to figure out just what could be done ASAP before they both become victims of the treacherous fauna of the desert.

However, what he didn’t expect was for Kaveh to create an opening…in the most perilous manner possible.

The architect practically offered himself up towards the sandworm by sprinting closest to it, slicing at its drill with his claymore to gain its attention. The beast shrieked, focusing on the Sumerian as it pulled itself out of the sand. It towered over Kaveh, and Kaeya immediately felt dread in the pit of his stomach. He rushed in to try and pull the architect out of harm’s way, desperate to defend the vulnerable architect. Kaeya may thoroughly enjoy putting his cavalry company through the wringer when it comes to missions, but Kaveh is not a part of his company!

It was clear that Kaveh knew how to stand his own and fight, using his claymore with impeccable precision and flawlessly using Mehrak to his benefit, but he was one mere man! Thus, was he at a disadvantage, as the wenut swept its massive tail towards Kaveh, slamming into his side and hurtling him away with its brute strength.

“Kaveh!” Kaeya cried out, gritting his teeth. Using whatever strength he had left in his legs, no thanks to the sand, he leapt towards the sandworm as his Favonia Aquila imbued and reinforced itself with his cryo, sharpening its point further with deadly rime. Lethal icicles formed around him before shooting out like harpoons, impaling through the wenut’s body every which way, while Kaeya landed atop its head and pierced his sword through the armor that had thoroughly protected it before.

The creature released a blood-curdling screech, attempting to fling the Mondstadtian off its head, but Kaeya remained firm and dug his sword further and further, the sickening sound of cracking and squelching prominent in his ears. He hung on for dear life while the beast thrashed, but eventually, it soon fell limp and crashed down onto the sand, forcing him to let go so he could tuck and roll away safely.

Panting heavily, he squinted towards the massive sandworm and waited to see if it would move again, but all he saw were the twitches of a fresh kill. Only after he knew it was really dead did he search frantically for Kaveh, spotting the blond sprawled a way’s away from the site of their skirmish. Forcing himself back upright, his legs burned as he sprinted over to the architect’s side, his hands hovering over him in concern as he inspected him closer to check for any external wounds. It appeared he was about the same when it came to superficial injuries, but he knew that tail must have hurt him a lot more. He’s afraid of there being internal trauma, thus causing him to hesitate in picking him up or even moving him. He wasn’t about to risk exacerbating any injuries, not unless Kaveh was actually awake and lucid enough to tell him what was wrong.

“Kaveh—Kaveh, are you alright? Can you hear me? Do you know if anything is broken?”

well, for starters, i have three vision types i could see clervie getting. i'll probably write a full fic in the near future, but lets start out with some silly little vision headcanons:

(spoilers for my fic utc)

1. anemo. i think we can all see this, with clervies main goal being freedom

lets say that, whenever peruere and clervie are in the arena together, arguing about who should take over the house and all that, once clervie says "the only freedom i truly possess is the freedom to choose to die," shes proven wrong by an anemo vision shooting down from the sky, and when she takes it, a little wind sprite appears on her shoulder, guiding her to safety and obscuring the air around her to hide her from any fatui soldiers that may be lurking nearby

arle goes and kills crucabena like normal and takes over the house, and before assuming her duties as a harbinger, she and clervie take a long time to travel around teyvat like they dreamed of doing when they were kids

2. hydro. i thought of this while writing the fic. clervie seems like she felt very strongly about getting justice for the kids at the house, and getting justice for what crucabena did to them. at first, she thought justice looked like getting crucabena put in prison and letting someone else take over the house, but then it changed to killing crucabena and having arlecchino take over the house. she always followed her gut on what justice looked like

so what if, one day when shes taking one of her coded notes out to the guardes in the forest one day, a hydro vision appears in front of her eyes, and she takes it, a look of wonder in her eyes, then looks around to make sure none of the fatui hiding around saw it and holds the vision out to the guardes and says "officers, i think i saw someone walk through here and drop this vision. can i go to the guardes station and report what he looked like so you guys can find him?" and nudges them so that they take her back to the court of fontaine, where she files a report against crucabena for child abuse and neglect, and shes tried at the opera epiclese and exposed and humiliated by so many testimonies from the kids

neuvillette himself congratulates clervie and makes sure every child under the house is protected until a new leader is chosen, or until clervie comes of age and can legally assume the position of mother of the house

the fortress of meropide makes sure that crucabenas (life) sentence is extra miserable, and makes sure to treat her the same way she treated her kids. she never got any visits from them

3. dendro. i thought about this a couple days ago and i thought it was kind of interesting. i saw somewhere (cant remember where but it was probably a reddit thread) about the different characteristics that characters of each element shared, and for dendro, it was a fascination/love for something (like for nahida, its humans, for tighnari, its plants, for kaveh, its architecture, etc)

i think for clervie, it would be something similar to nahida, a love for humanity, a love for the kids at the hearth. shes the mother that they never had.

lets say that during that last "showdown" at the arena, clervie talks about how much she loves the kids at the hearth and doesnt want to see them suffer, and how she wants someone to be there to guide them and teach them, and how she doesnt think shes worthy to do that, but then a dendro vision comes flashing down in front of her, and she looks at peruere with wide eyes.

lets say peruere somehow convinces clervie to go to that other building that crucabena kept the younger members of the house whenever she made all the teens kill each other, and make sure theyre all safe in one place while peruere goes to kill crucabena

while thats happening, clervie entertains the kids by filling pots with dirt and using her vision to sprout pretty flowers out of thin air. she loves seeing them smile, and she wants nothing more than to be there to teach the kids and make sure they grow up strong and happy

while theyre on their little teyvat world tour, arle and clervie buy several books and other academic supplies for the kids back home

i love this fuckin argument kaveh and alhaitham have on the port ormos bulletin board

it's one of those instances where kaveh and alhaitham are arguing and alhaitham is saying that like, while he disagrees with kaveh lol, he also doesnt deny theres truth to what kaveh says.

but i also think it's funny how alhaitham is like "end of conversation. ALSO-" like bitch you kept going IMMEDIATELY fkjsjfklds and then that stupid bit where theyre like "he said this" "he did not fucking say that" "he did" "no he didnt fuck you" "he did give me a month ill prove it!!!!" THEYRE FIGHTING LIKE CHILDREN ON A PUBLIC MESSAGE BOARD😭😭😭

also i have this one bit stuck forever in my mind from kavehs hang out

MAYBE im reading into it way too much bc i have terminal haikaveh brain. maybe. BUT!!!! art is subjective i can do what i want :^) anyway i think a lot about this part because TO ME it sounds like kaveh keeps assuming the worst from alhaitham - makes sense, they argue all the time and they def have a turbulent relationship. HOWEVER!!!!! while alhaitham does like poking fun at kaveh and gets annoyed with him dskjfdsklf i FEEL LIKE theres an implication that he like, does not enjoy seeing kaveh suffer the way kaveh just assumes he does.

like here, kaveh is like oh, youre not hoping to see me make a fool of myself are you >:(?? just bc alhaitham was like. in a location unexpectedly. lol. and then alhaithams phrasing is just so specific where he like, doesnt say yes but doesnt say no either lol. hes like "oh so you think i get joy from seeing you in pain day in and day out? well if that were true id be entertained always because youre always in distress"

but like. I DUNNO MAYBE IM BEING STUPID BUT JKSDLFJDKL to ME it felt like he was deflecting the question. to be fair it was a silly question so maybe alhaitham didnt think it worth answering lololol but like "are you here to watch me struggle" "why do you assume i enjoy you struggling" is the vibe i get. but then with bullying also bc alhaitham is still poking at him and his distresses lol jdkslfdskl

and then like the moment the traveler is about to be like "kavehs feeling sad" and kaveh tries to deflect it, i personally think alhaitham managed to come up with a distraction to get kaveh to walk away for a minute so he could hear about kavehs troubles bc hes IMMEDIATELY LIKE

ok now that hes gone tell me about kaveh and his issues. and then goes on to explain kaveh and his behavior

and there are SEVERAL INSTANCES i mean this is an obvious thing lol but like, many such cases where kaveh and alhaitham will be like "yeah this guy is incredibly smart but his personality is fucking unbearable" i just enjoy that as much as they rag on each other theyre still like "no he is a genius though im not gonna deny that" AND ALSO [help]

alhaitham says stuff like this a few times, i think hes got a teapot line or so where he says similar things 🤔 but hes like "yeah people go about their lives doing different things and thats fine everyone should stay in their lane as long as theyre not disrupting the lives of others" AND YET!!!!!!!!!!!! he and kaveh endlessly fight with each other on how they go about their lives. trying to get the other to see their way of thinking even though i think they both acknowledge [or it says somewhere in the lore that they do] that it is a losing battle bc theyre both really set in how they see things and their methods of doing things. I JUST FIND IT REALLY INTERESTING that alhaitham is like, "mind your business and ill mind my business what ever bye" but when it comes to kaveh hes like. no actually i have to debate you. the way you feel isnt wrong however your actions make your life really hard for yourself and you could be living better if you changed" like he cannot stay in his lane when kaveh is involved!!!!! and like the whole reason he's even IN the parade of providence event at all was bc he was pursuing a thread of research that he figured out was connected to kavehs dad and his disappearance!!! mister "i dont want to get involved if it doesnt disrupt my life" got involved to give his boy some closure on the haunting of his dead father!!!!!!!!!! I am going to explode now goodbye!!!!
