#tag talk#wooooooo! I'm back from four hours at the dmv. I remembered all the documentation I needed and managed to get everything done first try.#cars are such a fucking scam ughhhhhhh#I never got an updated birth certificate with my new name but bringing the name change court order bridged the gap so it went pretty smooth#I do want to get the updated birth certificate eventually for convenience but that's a task I am still putting off because it's not crucial#the people at the dmv were all nice and I was prepared for it to take forever so I just jammed to music and read some mtmtm while waiting#this is my third time doing it on my own so at this point it's not strange and unknown and scary.#I did almost have a bit of a panic attack when I first walked in because new places are terrifying but I handled it well.#it's nice to realize that everyone isn't actually staring at me. we're all just doing our own thing while waiting.#working as a cashier and also doing customer service has given me a ton of confidence tbh.#I'm familiar with processing people's paperwork and I've been on the other side of having to wait for a process to complete#so it's not a black box to me anymore and I've learned how to translate customer service speak into direct action.#it's just a multistep process you have to break down into its components.#and you have to come into it knowing it's going to be a long process and you just have to take it slow and stay organized#honestly it's kind of fun to walk in with my folder of documents and just work through the forms bit by bit.#there's some information I need to write down for next time because I had to dig through my old texts from when I first bought the car#and if I didn't still have the same phone I wouldn't have had that information. so that's kinda scary to think about.#reminder that if you're hitting independent age you should have some sort of binder or filing system for things identity and tax documents#I learned that from one of those adulting tumblr posts which had a bunch of good advice so just a reminder to anyone who doesn't
