honestly, kudos to njo for a fascinating insight into what co-parenting your child with their jedi master would look like. especially for parents as involved with the jedi as han and leia, who are not official order members, but handle a lot of their administrative and supply problems. leia being jealous of mara and jaina's training bond she can't understand, as well as her being annoyed with someone else making big decisions concerning jaina without consulting her, is very realistic. despite leia knowing that the jedi training is something jaina both wants and needs, that mara is a great female role model, she can't help but feel left out, and it's great that r. a. salvatore allows leia to have all these emotions without villainizing her.

also, some might say that raising your jedi apprentice in the njo era might be easier, and if they come from a loving family (like the solo kids, tenel ka djo, raynar thul, valin and jysella horn) you have the additional (to the order itself) support network to fall back on when you have problems with the kid you're responsible for. on the other hand, all of this introduces another layer of emotional complications to the master-apprentice dynamic. the difference between the old jedi order masters being parental figures to their padawans, and the new jedi order masters being mostly older sibling or aunt/uncle figures is there.
