Found out that open library had all of the books in a series that i started reading in middle-school(Secrets of Wintercraft by Jenna Burtenshaw; the libraries around me only had the first book so i gave up on ever reading the last two) and spend the last two days reading them and holy shit did it hold up to time well.
I'm not going to actually go into details about the books for anyone that sees my ramblings and gets curious about them bc this is definitely a series that you want to go into with the minimum knowledge of what your going to get(it actually explains things very well and the things that aren't explained are left that way for a reason). This post is just my own general thoughts on the book series.
I understand why the first book managed to bury itself deeply enough in my memory for me to not forget it completely among the many many books i read during and after school and it was just as satisfying to reread it and then go into the next two books with refreshed context.
For this being the authors first published works they are incredible. they grabbed my attention and held it and honestly i am absolutely adding this series to my list of books to buy physical copies of so i can reread them whenever i want.
Also as a bonus unlike a fair couple of books aimed at the teen and up age-range(i'm in my 20s now and i definitely like it, it feels like it could be for any age, teens and up), there is no romance shoe-horned in. I was incredibly worried that there would be some in there but there's not and the way it was written there didn't need to be any.
Overall Secrets of Wintercraft by Jenna Burtenshaw was a wonderfully written book series and I'm glad i finally managed to read it completely even if it did take me over a decade to do so.
