#will i take any opportunity to advance my 'they reconciled because vander realised he needed to join the fight once more' agenda? maybe

a wish take i disagree with? must be topsy-turvy day!
i think two truths are absolutely essential to the characters of silco and vander, and are why i think the letter would ultimately never make a real difference:
silco picks zaun over vander, every time. even in s1e3, silco is ready to take vander back... but only if vander agrees to fight for zaun once more. if silco finds the letter, goes to talk to vander, but vander still insists on staying out of the fight? he loses silco, every time.
after the day of ash, vander's primary motivators are: the safety of his children, and his own apathy born of shame. the safety of his kids is the reason vander refuses to fight, and the safety of his kids is the only thing that could convince vander to fight again - to become the hound again.
this is why i believe vi's death has to be the thing that sets off their reconciliation. vander realises that his enforced 'peace' with piltover isn't going to keep his kids safe; realises that his own apathy, his own refusal to try and fight to uplift zaun, is the reason vi led her siblings topside in a heist. is the reason vi is dead. (may be the reason, even, his other kids are currently under arrest in piltover.)
and so when silco comes knocking in s1 act 1, vander agrees to join the cause once more.
he becomes the hound again (gets a hound tattoo, winds up in the s2e7 flashback wearing a reference to silco's revolutionary manbun and day of ash outfit). maybe they use shimmer to lead a direct assault to free the rest of vander's kids. maybe they mobilise zaun around vi's death. they did start out as miners, after all; labour organising and strikes are their activist roots. they use shimmer to keep enforcers out of zaun, to FAFO any attempts by piltover to break the strike.
whatever they do, it works. piltover shits a brick; piltover's economy is kneecapped by the total strike of most of their labour force. piltover comes to the table to negotiate.
Wasssaaa!! So I'm not sure if you've said this already, (I don't think so cause I've been stalking your blog since the day I discovered it), but in the episode 7 canon Zaundads AU, when do you think the reconciliation happened?
I'm actually going to be making a little comic about the "Silco finds the letter and is going to confront Vander about it". I have pages sketched out and am able to continue it after the holidays.
But in short, in my opinion, the reconciliation had to happen before Silco got really into his shimmer plan and before he got too bitter in general. Very vague, I know hah
#will i take any opportunity to advance my 'they reconciled because vander realised he needed to join the fight once more' agenda? maybe#but really i think it is. the only way. i don't think silco ever agrees to stay with vander if vander opts out of the cause#and i don't think vander ever agrees to join the cause again as long as he believes enforcing 'peace' is the safest option for his kids#arcane s1 is a tightly written story where the motivations of the characters exist in a push-pull with the system those characters inhabit#and it feels truest to the good season that the outcome changes when the choices the characters make w/r/t their circumstances change#which happens when their core motivations change#silco#vander#zaundads#vanco
