this brings up a lot of very salient points, it makes me want to read the book that he references!

i admit i went into this thinking ''i already think endlessly abt the sexism in naruto. surely there is nothing more i could learn from this'' but yeah, no, there was and that was silly of me. kishimoto really fails his female characters and female readers at every opportunity huh

#i dont use spotify so i was glad to find there was a youtube version sdkgjhskgh #yamswers #i'm really annoyed about how mednin was reduced to like. caretaker #its silly but doctor/healer type characters are Definitely like. part of My Character Type usually. so the fact that their roles are so #wildly underutilized in naruto SUCKS ASSSSSS. like already its bad that its a role for women (+kabuto. which. doesn't fix anything)#but then on top of that that they only show up to do a little healing every once and a while #like tsunade training sakura could have been fuuucking incredible especially to see them working together and sakura learning from tsunade #bc u KNOW tsunade wouldve been a fascinating teacher character. and then ALSO you see sakura get to be ino's senpai #which is!!! interesting and complicated too!!! because she has to confront again the pedestal she put ino on and how fake and foolish #it was of her to do that...#her nightmarish inferiority/superiority complex about ino...would that not have been fascinating to continue digging into?#but no we get like a minute of it. bleugh. whatever. whatever its fine #we also straight up should have had an arc about sakura dealing with like the weight shes put on her shoulders of like. trying to save #people in wartime. she's gonna have doctor trauma about all that. like. that would have been weighty and interesting and relevant #and would also be a neat mirror between her and kakashi—both of them with huge survivors guilt (+yamato but he's understated. its fine)#not to mention a character trying to figure out boundaries of when you need to take care of yourself. in order to take care of others...#is like sorely needed in this story bc naruto the focus character is like ''i will destroy myself if it brings sasuke back 'ttebayo''#and boy howdy. boy howdy.#but yeah it's fine im normal i have normal opinions abt healer characters and also naruto and i dont want to attack kishimoto.#at all. even a little bit. even a little tiny bit.#even a smidge. as a treat.
