You know what makes me really sad and bittersweet. When your comfort duo is also your discomfort duo. I have several examples: catradora, ishimondo, but the biggest is crime boys. I know the first two are ships shut up, I don't ship the crime boys it's different you'll see.
With Catradora it's obvious that they have a lot of growing and accepting to do still before they're back to better than where they started. I love enemies to lovers tropes but where those two are currently is still full of guilt and fear, though different from where it started not enough so to give me the comfort I need.
Ishimondo I just. Ouch. They had an enemies to lovers arc. They did. And then bam o wham a body has been discovered and Mondo payed for his crimes. Taka was devastated and no one tried to help him?? Except Alter Ego but they didn't know how to properly handle Taka's shattered psyche as a young AI and low-key broke him but at least he was moving and taking better care of himself until he dies like two days later. It's just the fact that they only knew they had each other for a short period of time before being torn apart, unable to explore the true nature of that relationship, it just kills me. And to make matters 10x worse no one writes fluff for it, please, someone just write some tooth rotting fluff please, I need it.
Now for the crime boys. A good sibling dynamic to start. Older brother leading a bad idea gone right starting as a drug van ending as leaders to a country the founded. But as governments grow corruption burrows itself until it collapses. And Wilbur saw to it that it would collapse again and again. However it appears that his constant is Tommy. Though I feel Wilbur's thoughts of Tommy change. Wilbur goes from proud of how far Tommy's come, happy to watch Tommy's growth continue, to needing that little brother to follow him wherever he needs, a loyal companion to help him through his plans. A pawn to use. Though he's always chosen Tommy, maybe it's the blood relation, or sentiment more likely but it's true. Even after C!Wilbur died Ghostbur still looked after and stayed by C!Tommy's side, keeping the duo close. I guess that's Wilbur's constant though Revivbur definitely saw Tommy as more of a pawn than someone he cared for and loved. The amount of pain and suffering Tommy has gone through at his older brother's expense, though "making him stronger" is another example of Tommy being abused and tormented. Worse as it's coming from his older brother. The person he was supposed to look up to and be protected with. The one that actually stayed with him as they all drifted apart. From watching him die to being manipulated and used repeatedly by someone he genuinely loved and trusted. I guess it hits too close to home for my liking and traumas. Big brother instincts ache at the sight of it, and yet I left my own behind in a house far from a home and got out of the cycle of abuse. To think that Tommy fell into one and can't exactly get out seeing as he keeps falling into the "I won't hurt you I've changed" traps and empty promises made by a man fallen from his grace and stuck in suffering. Tommy's family in pain and needing him, our hero can't just let him go, he feels he needs to help-- no save him. So he goes back again and again, getting hurt every time. Just thinking about it leaves me completely heartbroken.
