2019 Conwy&Chester

This week, we came to Conwy and Chester, which locate in north Wales. Conwy castle was built in medieval time. It was recognized as one of the world heritages. Also, the smallest house in Great Britain is also in Conwy. While walking along the dock, sometimes feel here is a combination of York and Whiteby. Here is a quiet place, which is very suitable for people who want to enjoy a nice weekend.

There are two ways to Chester from Leeds, bus and train. It needs to transfer one time from Leeds to Chester. This time, we took bus to here. Chester is a small town with lovely white wall and black framework. Buildings here are similar to York, but with larger buildings and wider roads. We were so lucky to meet Christmas market here. Ethereum là gì?

Ethereum – Được biết đến là nền tảng phần mềm mã nguồn mở dựa trên các chuỗi khối. Nó liên quan đến tiền điện tử ETH hay Ether. Đây chính là nền tảng cho phép mọi người có thể sử dụng Smart Contract – hợp đ��ng thông minh cũng như dApp – ứng dụng phi tập trung giúp việc thực hiện giao dịch được nhanh chóng. Đồng thời, Ethereum có thể ngăn ngừa được các hành vi lừa đảo.

So với các loại tiền điện tử khác thì ETH mang đến nhiều khả năng hơn. Nó có thể triển khai được nhiều mã cũng như tương tác tốt với các ứng dùng của người tạo. Điều đặc biệt nhất là Ethereum có thể khởi chạy các loại chương trình phức tạp nhờ sự linh hoạt.

Hiện nay, người ta sử dụng Ethereum để làm kho lưu trữ giá trị giống như Bitcoin. Tuy nhiên, nó có thể lập trình nhiều hơn và được sử dụng như một phần không thể thiếu với các ứng dụng phân cấp tài chính, thị trường phân cấp, trao đổi, trò chơi.

Xét về nguồn gốc, ETH được Vitalik Buterin – thiên tài người Nga phát minh. Bắt đầu vào năm 2013, với ý tưởng xây dựng nền tảng mang đến ứng dụng tài chính phát triển hơn Bitcoin, anh đã phát hành sách mô tả sản phẩm ETH và chuỗi khối Ethereum. Chính điều này giúp cho Ethereum trở nên phi tập trung và mỗi một máy tính sẽ có một bản sao chuỗi khối. Tất cả đều có sự thống nhất trước khi thực hiện thay đổi với mạng. Một điểm đặc biệt của Ethereum giống với Bitcoin hiện nay chính là có bản ghi lịch sử giao dịch.

Review: Dracula

Synopsis:

Dracula (1897) begins with a young solicitor, Jonathan Harker, on his way to Transylvania to meet Count Dracula, who is buying property in London. Harker endures a nightmarish stay at Dracula’s castle, which foreshadows some bizarre events in England.

First, a huge wolf-like creature is seen to leap from the deck of a Russian ship which has run aground on the shores of Whiteby, its captain dead at the helm and its crew mysteriously absent; and then Lucy - a friend of harker’s fiancee, Mina - developed a strange wasting disease and red marks on her throat.

Vampire expert Professor Van Helsing convinces Harker and his friends that if Mina is not to share the same fate as poor ‘undead’ Lucy, Dracula must be caught and ritually killed.

Plot:

Jonathan Harker left his fiancee Mina to do a business deal with the nobleman Count Dracula in Transylvania. Where the Count was an educated and giving host, Jonathan still found the castle to be strange. With lock doors, the Count chooses to talk during meal times instead of eating with Jonathan, and strange activities happening at night. When the villagers on his way to the castle gave him strange warnings, Jonathan knew he was in trouble when every door leading outside was locked, leaving him prisoner in the castle. Escaping through the window, Jonathan returns to Mina and marries her, but soon realizes his troubles with Count Dracula may not be over yet. Mina’s best friend Lucy seemed to have fallen ill, and with an illness that has no boundaries, the doctor called in an expert to help: Van Helsing. Seeing the marks of a vampire, Van Helsing sets out to prevent Lucy’s transformation, and tries to convince his commands of what Lucy and Count Dracula truly are. When Count Dracula strikes again, Van Helsing and the team conduct a plan to destroy Count Dracula. 

Thoughts:

For one of the old English classics, this one is not bad! The story is told mainly from diary entries of the main characters, with significant contributions from Mina, and Dr. Seward. The story's plot is extremely linear as it follows the passage of time, with the main parts being: Jonathan visits Count Dracula, Lucy’s illness, then the crew plan to destroy Dracula. Yet like every classic, and what schools force students to find, is the symbolism within the story, that Stoker had within the novel. The two main themes would be pretty women and the modern world, to Stoker’s standards. The modern world is from the original setting of the book of Dracula’s classic gothic tower to the busy streets of London, and more people living in a small area (urban centers) than any time previously in history. Dracula is envious of this and wants to have the full power of that area, which he cannot do from his castle in Transylvania, thus meeting Jonathan and trying to get property in London. The pretty women aspect of this novel is less known, and it basically the Victorian model of a woman is being threatened when Dracula comes in and tries to steal Lucy and Mina from their “roles” of being pure, innocent, and devoted to their husband. Thus, when the men tried to save Lucy later in the novel, they drew a line saying that they needed to kill ‘undead’ Lucy so that their pure, innocent, sweet, Lucy they knew when she was alive could rest in peace. With this book being old, it is hard to read at times due to the language of the novel and some references are not common in modern-day. Written diary entries allowed readers to see the story from several points of view, and allowed characters like Mina, introduced within the first chapter, to become more prominent and vital to the storyline. Also, for one of the first stories written by vampires, and definitely the most famous, it is not scary at all, due to Stoker not really giving details about the death and the scares within the story. Overall this is one of the better classics that you can read for school and pleasure, and learn the original story of Count Dracula, a vampire who did not sparkle but was obsessed with dirt.
