Sewing 1890s Day Dress in Doll Scale
I went slightly overboard with this second historical doll project. Here's my first one. The style is from around 1897 and more of a middle class style. As with my first doll outfit, I tried to stick to historical methods as much as possible, but the scale forced me to do some deviations. I hand-sew everything though sewing machine was already widely used, because in this scale it's easier to control the stitch, there's not that much to sew anyway and also I just really like hand-sewing. Here's all the items I made. As said, I went a little overboard. One thing that's missing is the corset cover, but the layers of fabric were creating enough bulk on the waist as is so I decided to not make one.
This time I decided to try repainting the face. I don't have any doll customization materials, so I used acrylics. After couple of attempts I got decent results. Acrylics can't make as smooth and delicate finish as pastels, pencils and gouache, which can be used on vinyl with basing sprays, and I'm not experienced with painting small details on 3D objects, so it's a bit smudged at points, especially with the other eye. I aimed for 1890s very neutral make up and the type of expression that was popular in fashion plates and other illustrations.
Undergarments
Combinations and stockings
The combinations are split crotch as they were in the period. They are from thin cotton voile I have a lot of and is very appropriate. I didn't have really tiny enough lace for this, so it's kinda bulky, but I think it's okay enough. The stockings are cotton knit, which fits well. The garters are not actually necessary for this doll since her legs are rubbery.
Corset
I made the corset from a firm-ish linen and satin rayon pretending to be silk as the fashion fabric. The stitching of the boning channels is not super neat, this fabric is very unforgiving, I didn't have exactly matching thread and the scale made it very difficult. I of course didn't have tiny busk, so I used small hooks, sewed thread loops for them and used narrow metal wire for the edges. I think it looks surprisingly right on the outside. I used the same wire as the boning to reinforce the lacing on the back. I didn't actually use boning elsewhere but the tightly packed linen edges in the boning channels kinda work like lighter boning. I think it keeps the shape pretty ways even with just that. I stitched cotton tape inside to shape the corset further. I also didn't have tiny metal eyelets so I hand-sewed the lacing holes.
Bustle pad
The bustle pad is from linen and stuffed with tiny cabbage.
Petticoat
The petticoat is from the same cotton as the combinations.
Outer wear
Skirt
The fabric is cotton half-panama. It's pretty thin, but firm. I would have liked to use a woven wool, but I didn't have any that's thin enough to work in this scale. I think this cotton looks close enough in this scale to a wool with a tight weave, so I'm imagining it's that. My problem was that the cotton was white, but I wanted light brown. I wasn't going to buy any fabric for this, so I did the reasonable thing and dyed it with red onion peals (I've been doing natural dye experiments so this worked well for me).
Shirtwaist
The shirtwaist is from the same cotton as the undergarments. Yes, I dyed it too. I didn't have thin enough cotton in a color that would fit with the skirt and the purple bow, so I dyed it light blue with fabric color. Since I already went the trouble of dyeing I decided I might as well make a small flower print to it since that was popular in the era. I didn't want it to jump out too much but the lighting makes it even less visible. I made it with a white fabric pen. The collar and cuffs are reinforced with linen. I also sewed small stick-like beads to the cuffs on both sides, so one acts as a button (I sewed a buttonhole too) and the other makes it look like they are cufflinks. The bow is from the same fabric as the corset and the belt is sewn from the same cotton as the shirtwaist. The buckle is from a barbie belt.
Waistcoat
The waistcoat is from the same fabric as the skirt, thought the lapels and the back are from another satin rayon. I tailored the front panels and the lapels by stitching the linen interlining with tailor's stitches (I don't remember if that's the correct word in English) into shape. There is some wonkiness on one side of the hemline for some reason.
Boots
I made the slightly insane decision to make the shoes fully from leather, like they would have been in the period. I had an old broken leather wallet I had saved in case I needed some leather scarps. It has fairly thin leather, so it was workable here. It's light brown though, so I used black shoe polish to darken it. I wanted black or very dark brown shoes. I stacked the heels from glue and leather pieces and carved them into the right shape and sewed the shoe itself to leather shaped as the sole and glued it to the heeled and shaped sole. After I had shaped the shoes and the heels as much as I could I painted the heels black.

02/13/22 3D Art: Assemblage Project
Artist’s Statement
When I first approached this assignment before the final instructions were given I was very enthusiastic because I had a lot of ideas and narratives that I wanted to incorporate into my art. When I realized that I had to use nonrepresentational objects and a nonobjective approach, I was challenged yet excited because I was forced to think outside of the box in terms of always feeling like I have to tell a story. This approach led me to pay more attention to the shapes of objects and how together based on weight distribution/composition could create a dynamic of the objects that feed off of each other’s placements or shapes/3d forms. I am very used to the idea of only focusing on what the end product of the art piece that I’m making will look like and then getting discouraged when I realized that it doesn’t look like how I wanted it to in my head. The nonobjective approach in art prevents that issue from happening when I create an artwork like this, especially an assemblage piece. I would say that I am happier with the result of the symmetrical piece because I prefer uniformity and neatness over the disproportion of the asymmetrical piece. Taste-wise, my preference is why I gravitate more towards a Joseph Cornell piece than I do to a Kurt Schwitters piece. I’d like to attempt the asymmetrical piece with different less organic objects in the near future to further challenge myself because I have a harder time understanding asymmetry in art and realizing that asymmetry may not always mean having to put objects in random places in the composition of the art piece. Overall I enjoyed the process of making these pieces and I’d like to incorporate assemblage style pieces into my portfolio to add more variety to the type of art that I’d like to make rather than just always sticking to painting and drawing.
Several of the objects that I used I actually made while others I found around my house or my neighborhood. I used objects that were aesthetically pleasing to me but also had distinct shapes and forms. I used broken cement triangle chips from a small construction site around my house. It was a challenge to use this because it was quite heavy and it would not hold onto the glue very well but I was attracted to the uneven qualities of the triangle shape of the cement chip. Mixed with my other objects from the asymmetrical assemblage piece, the triangle cement chips fit uniquely well into the other objects that I have made. I wanted to use an old wire charger but it was not holding up well to the glue and I wanted something with more form to it, so I wrapped the wire charger cable with aluminum foil and then drenched it in hot glue gun glue so that a different type of texture would be included into this piece when I spray painted over that wire charger cable wrapped in aluminum foil and hot glue. I also used circular objects to distribute the weight around unevenly so that it would be asymmetrical. For the symmetrical piece, I used objects that were more commonly found in my household but some that were also very dear to me. I used an old keychain and a fake designer necklace. I also used a knife and a set of press-on acrylic nails because such uniformity would contribute to the symmetry and even distribution of weight between the objects within the piece. The bows both on each side and the elf ears on each side also contributed to the symmetry as well. I incorporated bits of the wire charger cable wrapped in aluminum foil and hot glue in this piece as well to unite both the asymmetrical and symmetrical pieces together. I used a cardboard box and to cover the edges of the box I covered the edges with fake leaves/fake flowers while also painting both boxes white to bring unity to the two different pieces.

muse of a white tile floorI
I am a lover in the way an artist is. A fine artist, with many works and masterpieces all lined up along her little studio apartment wall. I observe my lovers and I come home after memorizing every detail about them. That curl that falls on their forehead when they push their hair back in a frenzy trying to look good on their date. The hard line of their pursing lips when they try to hide their crooked smile.
I dot on the little freckles with brown 03, and I highlight the cupids bow. Content inside my studio apartment, with my fat orange cat named tulio. I hide and I perch beside the window, looking out over the city all the while mixing up the perfect colors that capture them. The three bubble laughter. Cerulean blue sighs and Oakrah yellow moans. When the light caught his eyes it was a pool of honey and it was so sweet and warm, the look he gave slid down my throat.
Cups of dirty brushes and colored water.cover the stained wooden .table that i.found outside the weekend I moved in.
This is safe. here in my apartment in a busy city when I am off during the day and have time for music and home cooked food and sex. And I loved loving. I sanded the canvas and I washed all the brushes and lined up the tubes of paint ready to take in this new beauty. Excited at every detail to capture in acrylic.
I knew that they would love it when they saw it.
This is how I knew love was real, because I loved. It had to be real because I felt it. Enough so that I made them immortal. I saw their potential.
I was a goddess in the flesh, bending the life and movement of my will to reflect in 3d. Sometimes, if it was painful or special enough, I kept the painting all to myself, hidden inside my bedroom on the wall like a shrine of an old lonely woman. I lit candles beneath them and whispered hymns in my sleep.
I was a lonely woman.
And I was not getting younger. but I chose to sit and pick apart my loves aside Tulio and capture their immortal but temporary beauty within colors. It was easier this way. Safer. Tulio kept me company and for now that was enough.
When my lovers would leave me they took my peices. This one was particularly bad. He held me down by my throat amd cut out little stars from my chest and peeled them off me like it was nothing. The dried up play doh in my mother's shitty apartment carpet.
He picked his teeth with the pointed ends and bared that clean smile before sauntering away , smirking to himself at how well he fucked this one up. A masterpiece all in its own.
And I stumbled inside after midnight, bloody and cursing and dizzy. And I set them up inside my room. In this crypt I lit my candles with wet matches. Silver paint leaked from every pore and the floor came to know my details as I knew my muses. The muse of a white tile floor.
How romantic.
I hadn't even finished the portrait.
The sun came and went. The candles burnt to the nub and melted through to the wooden table. A month later I still hadn't pried myself from the floor. It came to know me better than any almost lover or friend ever had.
Moths nested in my stomach and my face sunk in like the ghost I had seen when I was a child. My mother told me I was just dreaming. I was still dreaming. Was I still dreaming?
The walls sweat. They remembered my screams as I did every favorite song from high-school.
A cat will eat their owner if they died and are left alone, I remembered I heard somewhere. I was stuck to this floor I thought. I could be immortal, should I turn this dark studio into a crypt. Pass myself onto Tulio. Be shat out into his clay litter box and finally materialize as what i knew I was.

Project 3: Experimenting and Taking Risks
I wanted to look at using materials that aren't usually used in typical textiles designs. I thought that using some more interesting materials such as wire or pipe cleaners would be a good way to incorporate 3D elements to my work. I thought I could also try looking at combining various methods together and experiment with which techniques to mix into a design.
Within my original “frozen in time” set up included a frame with flamingos. So far, the only way I have really included this within my designs is by using fabric with a flamingo repeat pattern on it so I wanted to try think of a more interesting way to do so. Trying to come up with different materials I thought of feathers - I sourced some pink feathers to use but I could also look into creating yarn feathers. Using other feathers would also be interesting, but I must make sure that colours fit into my colour scheme.
Fig 1 Experiment 5.4.1 Finger knit yarn base with pink feathers and pink acrylic yarn bows
Fig 2 Experiment 5.4.1 Close up
Fig 3 Experiment 5.4.1 Close up
I started by creating a yarn sample with the pink feathers. I combined the striking bright pink feathers with a plain white finger knitted length, tying on with some acrylic yarn to match the colour of the feathers. I quite like the contrast of textures between the feathers and knitted yarn but I am unsure as to how I would actually use the yarn design within a design, the feathers make it quite hard to work with and you can’t bend the feathers without breaking them. Perhaps this particular yarn design could be used in a purely decorative sense.

Fig 5 Experiment 5.4.2 Close up
Fig 6 Experiment 5.4.2 Close up
Fig 7 Experiment 5.4.2 View of back
Moving on from the first experimental material sample, I thought about how I could move from a yarn sample to a surface sample. Going from the finger knitted yarn base to a crochet granny square base and then from the bright pink feathers to the white feathers with some gold detailing. This sample reminded me very much of a dreamcatcher, although that was definitely not my intention when creating it. My aim for this sample was to experiment with how you could attach the feathers to the yarn base. Thinking back to my original arrangement, I decided to add some gold coloured gems to the crochet to resemble to bumps of texture on the decorative frame. I had noticed that you don’t really see things added to crochet garments and such so I wanted to look at adding different materials to crochet.
Fig 8 Experiment 5.4.3 Crochet x Beading
Fig 9 Experiment 5.4.3 Close up
Fig 10 Experiment 5.4.3 View of back
Fig 11 Experiment 5.4.3 Close up
Staying with the idea of adding materials to crochet, for this next sample I looked at adding beading to a crochet granny square. The crochet base is to replicate the crochet/knitted material within the still life arrangement and the beading is to represent the bumpy texture on the frame. In terms of colour, I decided to use the bright pink that I sampled from the flamingos on the frame in the arrangement and then I used white beads to compliment this. I think that this particular exploration really enhances the crochet base, making it look more elegant even by using fairly cheap materials to do so. I will definitely try using this in my final collection as I think it is really effective.
Fig 12 Experiment 5.4.4 Crochet x Wire coils
Fig 13 Experiment 5.4.4 Close up
Fig 14 Experiment 5.4.4 View of back
Fig 15 Experiment 5.4.4 Close up
Next I looked at the wire coils I included within my object arrangement representing the theme of “frozen in time”. I felt that using these coils in some way would be a great way to include a 3D element to some of my samples. I decided to use the copper wire to create some coils for my first exploration with this material, choosing to pair the two coils I made with a white granny square I had crocheted. I thought that the combination of white knitted yarn against the smooth, copper wire would make for an interesting sample.
Fig 16 Experiment 5.4.5 3D crochet yarn sample
Fig 17 Experiment 5.4.5 Close up
I wanted to explore some more possibilities when it came to yarn designs so for this exploration I decided to look at creating a crochet yarn with a 3D element. I am really happy with the result. I noticed I had not yet incorporated the leaves from the teacup and saucer within my still life arrangement even though I had looked at including the floral element a number of times throughout the project so far so I wanted to try focus on the leaves for this sample. What I like about this sample is that although it does not look like it would be particularly easy to incorporate it into a design, the way the chain is created would allow me to add this to a design as decorative edging whilst still retaining the 3d element of the leaves. You could even keep the edging fairly loose with gaps if that was the desired look - I may try this in a sample.
Fig 18 Experiment 5.4.6 3D crochet roses
Fig 19 Experiment 5.4.6 View of bottom
Fig 20 Experiment 5.4.6 Side view
Fig 21 Experiment 5.4.6 Close up
Fig 22 Experiment 5.4.6 Close up
After creating the yarn sample with the 3D element of leaves, I wanted to look at how else I could use crochet to create 3D elements to include within my designs. I found the pattern to create these 3D roses and I think that they are really effective. If I were to add these to my future designs I think they would add some depth and extra pops of colour that could be what makes my designs more visually appealing.
Fig 23 Experiment 5.4.7 3D crochet rose using chunky yarn and larger crochet hook
Fig 24 Experiment 5.4.7 Side view
Fig 25 Experiment 5.4.7 Close up
For this sample I wanted to look at creating the 3D crochet rose again but using a chunky yarn and larger hook to see the difference in sizing and whether it was easier to create. I think it was definitely easier to crochet but it used a lot of yarn for an end result that is a little too large to really be able to work with properly so I think if I use this again I will stick to using the standard size yarn compared to chunky as well as using a smaller hook size to match.

✨🌺When the Holy Mother Mary weeps🌺✨ 50x60-2 cm, acrylic on canvas, abstract portrait original and digital copy for sale (DM) In this artwork I used gold, red and white acrylic paint, a dull tulle, felt for her hair and dried herbs and seeds for the other forms..I randomly sprinkled the dried herbs and seeds on the canvas I painted before. Then I fixed all the thick 3D materials with the tulle and acrylic paint. And then I painted how I felt. In this moment I saw with the bowed head, with the bloody heart the sad holy mother Mary on this canvas. This painting is very sad with this bloody tear and with the very light moving hair in the wind. -------------------------------------------------------------- 💌 www.sedacalhan.blogspot.com 💌 sedacalhanart.tumblr.com 💌 www.pinterest.at/sedacalhanart 💌 www.etsy.com/de/shop/sedacalhanart 💗www.saatchiart.com/artwavecollector 💗www.kunst-online.com/collections/seda-calhan ----------------------------------------------------------------- #sedacalhan #architect #sedaartworks #myartworks #etsy #art #artist #artwork #artoftheday #artofvisual #artgallery #artlovers #artstagram #artworks #artcollector #artforsale #artistsoninstagram #artphotography #follow4followback #followme #austria #vienna #abstractart #canvas #saatchiart #acrylic #acrylicpainting #abstractportrait #kunst #holymary https://www.instagram.com/p/CDlsGQAAPgO/?igshid=1awvlqv1ncjam

High power lasers
High power lasers may double as many other kinds of lasers. We have a variety of laser cutting systems which each have different characteristics and attributes. Illustrator and designer Junichi Tsuneoka combines traditional woodworking techniques with laser cutting. Laser cutting for metals has the advantages over plasma cutting of being more precise and using less energy when cutting sheet metal; however, most industrial lasers cannot cut through the greater metal thickness that plasma can. Laser cutters use a thin, focused laser beam to pierce and cut through materials to cut out patterns and geometries specified by designers. We react quickly and professionally on urgent Laser cutting requests. Our top notch design, manufacturing, and quality control departments, allows us to deliver high level standards required by todays industries. Before beginning laser cutting, manufacturers map out what they're going to do based on a number of factors as they relate to your application. At Recam Laser we offer 2D and 3D laser cutting service, laser tube cutting, product engineering, CNC bending, TIG MIG and laser welding, CNC machining, surface finishes, assemblies and logistics management. Laser Cutting is possible by creating a 2D vector file. Laser cutting accuracy rates top those of any other cutting methods, with slightly higher precision tolerances and smaller slicing widths than even water jet cutting. It's easy to cut and engrave designs on any material with this laser. Not only do we provide a high volume tube laser cutting service, we specialise in short run, quick turnaround projects. From cake toppers and stencils to architectural models and engraving, our lasers can carve your project into reality. Artist Jay Thomson streamlines the bow tie making process by selling acrylic laser cutting design templates. We've also included a comprehensive guide to laser cutting, sharing everything you need to know about this technology before you make an investment. LA Laser Cutting began as a small community artist resource when Bert, then a professor at Art Center School of Design, began sharing his laser cutters with his students. First, laser cutting produces parts with nearly zero edge deformation, roll-off, or edge factor. You must be an inducted workshop user to access this Moodle page and book a laser cutter. Additional services such as assembly, design, etching, finishing, polishing, and plating offered. PrintFab offers laser cutting services to all our customers with projects big or small. Continuous investment in the latest equipment, a 24 hour laser cutting service, competitive pricing and excellent customer care ensure that customers get the best With our expertise, we can help you with everything from one off items to full scale production and large batches. CNC laser cutting is a great option if you need to produce a large number of complex pieces. Fibre optic laser cutting also allows our company to perform complex machining and linear and circular cuts. Laser cutting and engraving are incredibly cost and time-efficient manufacturing methods that cut and engrave any shapes in most metals and non-metallic materials. By the ‘70s, manufacturers around the world were using laser cutting systems for all sorts of applications, from titanium cutting for aerospace to textile cutting. At Gratnells Engineering we believe that quality and customer service are every bit as important as price and lead time. The laser, when supplied with the right settings, will cut all the way through your material, so vector cutting is normally used for cutting out the outline of the part as well as any features or holes that you want to cut out of the material. We are your ideal supplier for small, thin, delicate and high-precision parts laser cut from a variety of metals and plastics, in flat or tube form.
Getting everything together in drawings for laser cutting and engraving is the key first stage. Aluminum alloys, carbon steel, galvanized steel, copper, brass and stainless steel materials worked. Using state-of-the-art technology and high-quality materials, we offer precision laser cutting services that provides fantastic results. Requirements to setup production begins with a digitized design file and your industry specific materials. LA Laser Cutting services include laser cutting and engraving, graphic design, custom finishing, painting and fabrication, as well additional specialized works. By using laser for cutting, we avoid machining waste and defects, and reduce production costs. The small spot size of a fiber optic laser provides high quality cut edges with minimal material warping, ideal for the food, medical, and many other industries. There are several different types of laser cutting machines available, though all follow a similar process. Fusion cutting, also known as melt and blow cutting, involves blowing molten material from the cutting area using pressurized gas. Since our formation, we've built a solid reputation for laser cutting aluminium sheet with the highest levels of accuracy and quality. Laser cutting beats traditional methods of cutting, delivering much cleaner, smoother edges and allowing extremely precise measurements. Read a more comprehensive list of the materials that we can laser cut and laser etch. Our machining expertise is well demonstrated by our precision laser cutting services. The B-made workshops at 22 Gordon Street and Here East have different laser cutters. It's compatible with a wide range of materials, including leather, wood, acrylic, glass, fabric, cardboard, and can even engrave metal materials like anodized aluminum and titanium. Most commonly materials cut by our laser cutter are acrylics, wood, card and fabric. The Glowforge Plus is a professional-grade laser cutter that is both easy-to-use and highly reliable.
Laser cutting tech uses less energy than traditional cutting methods. Experience and advanced laser cutting facilities give you press-ready, precision-cut product every time. Piercing usually involves a high-power pulsed laser beam which slowly makes a hole in the material, taking around 5-15 seconds for 0.5-inch-thick (13 mm) stainless steel , for example. Learn more about creating designs for laser cutting. We're proud to offer complete turnkey services on location, with skilled specialists and cutting-edge technology supporting your new product from concept to manufacturing. High precision laser cutting of a wide variety of metals. Laser cutter service providers generally employ a carbon dioxide laser to perform the low-distortion hot cutting. Acrylic sheet can be laser engraved with a CO2 laser, which produces either white or clear engraved images, depending on how we set up the machine and what you want done. At work we have a 40w laser cutter we use to cut and make acrylic labels. The high precision laser vaporises a cut line through the material, leaving a 90 degree high quality cut edge finish. Laser Cutting - Remaly Manufacturing Company, Inc. Precision and accurate controls guarantee the integrity of the machined materials, which are immediately usable in the various sectors. The kerf of a laser cutter is much thinner in general than the kerf of a sawblade or a milling bit, for example, so laser cutters can do some really nice detail work. With low power usage, relatively low price, and high efficiency, this laser cutting technology is the most ideal for consumers and maker spaces. What was once a tool strictly for industrial purposes, you can now find laser cutters in schools, maker spaces, and even homes. If you have any questions about laser cutting or services please reach out and connect with us about your questions, or arrange a visit to the studio to find our more, see examples, and meet the team.

Hi Guys, Here is another Christmas design, this time i have opted for a purple look using the Urban Grafitti Gel Polish in the colour of Love Spell, to which i have also applied some of Naio's amazing new Chrome Pigment range, I love this Topaz look and Adam thinks i must be a witch because the white powder turns blue when it touches the nail. The design i have went for is an abstract look, this was inspired by when you see trees from a distance at night and can only really see the lights, like they are floating in mid air.
