Part 1) With taking a great interest in mothers, seeing the dead ladies club, and noticing posts and takes on father and their kids relationships. I’ve grown to become interested with mothers and type of mothers in asoiaf specifically. Thus, what it shows about westrosi society and how they and their parenting effected their sons and daughters as that’s been done a few times for fathers. I was wondering for opinions on these six mothers and then the seventh being the mother in the seven:

Part 2) Cateyln Stark-her five children, Cersei-three kids, Mellario norvos with being physically distant but prior she was desperate for the physical connection- how do you think that effected her kids both prior and after she left, lysa and Robert Arryn, Olenna Tyrell w/ Mace and any headcannons with her daughters, Alannys Harlaw with Asha and Theon. Then of course, the seventh being the mother of the seven. The influences the god mother has on westrosi mothers. Human/Narcissism/martyr nuance.

Catelyn is a good mother and while she does follow the expectations of society, she actually goes above and beyond considering her murder of Jinglebell, freeing Jaime and essentially starting the War of the Five Kings. With the Lady Stoneheart storyline, she's set to go even further.

Cersei is an incredibly toxic mother. She loves her children but she doesn't allow them to better themselves or grow on their own. She allows Joffrey to go bananas, in fact one of the only time we see her take him in hand is in front of Tywin. The way she treats Tommen in AFFC, is an eye opener. She loves him but he's a pawn to her gaining power and she scares him and likely psychologically scars him with her antics and smothering.

We dont really have much on Mellario to go by. We are only given one insight into her mothering and that's her threat to Doran after he plans to send Arianne to Tyrosh. I honestly think Mellario was probably a good mother but the stress of living in a foreign land with an estranged revenge-driven husband and children who belong to Dorne, may have driven her to take herself out of the situation. Oddly enough, her children do not seem to think of her as somebody they need: Arianne loves her but seems to see Oberyn as more a parent figure and Quentyn really doesn't know her very well, his feelings seem more dutiful than real.

Lysa and Robin is very clear abuse. Lysa does love Robin but she has scarred him mentally, allowed his worst flaws and behaviours go unchecked and infantilised him to a point that he's behind developmentally. Lysa has her own issues and her own excuses of course, but there was no reason for this treatment of Robin. Also she has anti-vaxxer Karen energy.

I think Olenna would have been a hands off mother, allowing the children to be raised by governesses but with a proclivity for helicopter parenting and meddling. I think Olenna loves her children but sees the larger family picture than the personal needs of each child.

Alannys is probably one of the baddest bitches of ASOIAF. She loves her children, Maron and Rodrick's death almost kills her and she is scarred by Theon's absence. Alannys raised the badass we love as Asha. Nuff said.

The Mother is the epitome of who the Westerosi mother is meant to be. She's merciful, loving, caring and nurturing. She is the example of what Westerosi society exoects of women as mothers.

Lady Olenna Tyrell

Age:56 || Face Claim: Megan Fellows || Played by: OPEN

The Queen of Thorns' words have always been heeded ever since she was young. A commanding force to be reckoned with, many know that she is the true head of House Tyrell, lording over her son Mace. She raised her family up in hopes that they would be strong and follow her cunning and wicked wit. But only her daughter Mina has proven herself to be anything like her. No one in House Tyrell would describe Olenna as a patient soul as she is ever the coiling viper in a garden of roses. With the current shift of times and a new King upon the throne, she has begun to move her pieces upon the board, instituting her family further into the king’s court and fully intending to implant her reaching influence into the political games at hand.

Lord Mace Tyrell

Age: 35 || Face Claim: Edgar Ramirez || Played by: OPEN

The Lord of Highgarden Mace Tyrell is a handsome, powerful looking man with a jovial personality. An ambitious man, though not particularly bright, Mace dreams that one day one of his grandchildren will sit the Iron Throne. He has been impatiently pushing for a betrothal to one of the Targaryen progeny for his children. Between his schemes, he is a puppet to his mother’s will and easily influenced by her words and often follows her decisions. Many consider him an oaf or a fool and many say under their breath that it is his fault his heir is crippled. His misplaced hatred for the Dornish makes him openly disrespectful towards the marriage between Elia Martell and King Rhaegar, which he has been known to speak of freely when he falls too far into his cups, within the sanctity of his own home, far from where Rhaegar Targaryen might actually hear him.

Lady Alerie Tyrell

Age: 33 || Face Claim: Camille Lou || Played by: OPEN

Wife of Mace Tyrell, and daughter of Leyton Hightower, Alerie is a woman of old and distinguished blood. It shows in the dignified way she holds and presents herself to the Courts of Highgarden. She enjoys talking about the luxurious things in life, not bringing much stimulation or challenge to the conversations she makes. She is always happy to go on, and in great detail, about the latest fashions, or else hear the latest gossip, whilst sitting pretty for her family while Olenna runs things in the background. She’s not so stupid as to not know what’s happening around her, but is happy to play along and do as she’s told - that is until harm is threatened towards her family. She may not be related to Olenna by blood, but she takes after the woman by way of her own ruthlessness. She is a woman who can certainly handle things if need be. In the mean time, she’s happy to be the trophy wife on Mace’s arm. Do not let her vapid demeanor fool you; there are thorns beneath her pretty petals.

Lord Willas Tyrell

Age: 18 || Face Claim: Michael Cimino || Played by: OPEN

Willas was not born a cripple nor does he believe he is powerless simply because he is one. He turned away any who wished to pity or coddle him after his injuries and kept a bright and hopeful optimism throughout the healing process. Though his dreams of being a knight were shattered the day he was unseated from his horse by Oberyn Martell, he has devoted himself to his studies and has become a rather intelligent and studious individual. He is favored by his grandmother and much of his learning has been funded by her own coin. Willas has a knack for breeding some of the finest horses, hounds, and hawks to be found in the Reach (some might argue the whole of Westeros) which has quickly made him quite renowned and created his own pool of income for the family. Willas is of a calm and kindly nature, though some may find him rather dull. He finds his mind wandering as of late; pensive over whether or not he will one day find an amiable marriage or perhaps even a love match. He fears that he may be seen as broken regardless of all that he has achieved. Is love, and a chance to truly live, out of his reach?

Lady Mina Tyrell

Age: 25 || Face Claim: Bruna Marquezine || Reserved by: Mo

Mina follows in her mother’s footsteps and everyone says she looks and sounds exactly like Olenna did at her age - a point Mina prides herself on. Quick and intelligent; she is never to be outdone when it comes to cleverly worded rebuttals. She fusses constantly over her younger sister and wishes she wouldn't be such a dolt. She has her eyes set on an advantageous marriage and was not too impressed when it was decided she would be married to Ned Stark. She dreads moving to the cold and unforgiving North and cannot understand what she has done to deserve such a poor match. She and her mother have heated arguments about the situation and their verbal sparring matches are known to be quite the thing to witness. She was raised to play the game and knows that the political offerings in the South are much better than any of the uncivilized sort that goes on in the Northern kingdom.

Lady Janna Tyrell

Age: 18 || Face Claim: Fernanda Oliveira || Played by: OPEN

Where Mina’s gaze is sharp, Janna’s is rather vacant. There isn't much going on between this one’s ears though thankfully she is pretty and well-meaning. She had troubles learning to read as a child and would often grow frustrated and start to cry when the other children would tease her. She’s not often quick to the uptake and is more content sitting around a party table eating lemon cakes than scheming. She is betrothed to Jaehaerys Targaryen but she has a softness for another: Ylva Greyjoy who she met by chance. Janna loves her family ardently and is especially close with her nephew Willas who is more like a brother than her own is to her at times. Though that doesn't mean she doesn't love Mace dearly. She enjoys her comfortable lifestyle in Highgarden and is happiest when she is amongst family. Though as of late she can't stop herself from dreaming about a certain Ironborn woman and it has been most distressing for her to come to terms with her own feelings
