the chilchuck dub drives me absolutely up the wall. why is the american voice so flat and one-note when the original voice gets so much variation and softness in? noticed it especially on the last ep when he was telling marcille about the tiny lifespan and she saw The Horrors. the japanese actor is softly like: i was just joking! while the american voice is ironic: i'm only kidding. that's a huge difference!!!! one is dad chilchuck having a joke that went off the rails, the other is just stirring shit for no reason. no wonder people see chilchuck as this sardonic beer-swigging twig with dead eyes (he is that but also more)

I translated Lego Monkie Kid’s Cantonese Extended Opening

In the tags of my first post I said I wanted to translate the lyrics of the extended OP of the LMK Cantonese dub and I did it :D

Translation notes: (some translations are wonky bc either the og lyrics are ambiguous, I didn’t have enough space to translate the phrases fully, or my Cantonese is rusty)

“All reveal your true forms to me immediately!”— 現形 means to appear/reappear. I personally interpreted it as the spirits/demons showing their true forms when SWK is fighting them, but simply “reveal yourselves to me” works too

“I truly can’t help how popular I am these days.”— One of my wonky translations I think. The og lyric is more like “really, I’m trending right now, I can’t stop it even if I wanted to / even if I tried.”

“But now I have to hide away,”— The lyric for “hide away” 神隱 very specifically refers to gods/immortals/spirits going into hiding

“From now on, keep the Golden Staff with you at all times,”— In the original JttW text, SWK’s staff is called the 金箍棒 “gold-hooped staff/rod”, but in Cantonese the staff is more commonly called the 金剛棒, which doesn’t have the “hoop” character. It’s just a gold stick 

“Only rely on having enough audacity,”— I think it’s supposed to be “have a lot of/enough courage” but it can also mean “audacity”, and since this song is about SWK and MK I think the word “audacity” fits them much better haha

“I will reach the peak for a competition of skill.”— This is an instance of Cantonese being so compressed and concise that I have no idea how to structure the sentence in English

“Endure for the sake of loyalty,”— 捱義氣 means doing a favor out of personal loyalty that you might not want to do (eg. you help your friend clean his car when you hate cleaning cars cuz he’s your bud!). I think “endure for the sake of loyalty” is a goofy way of translating this but I dunno what to write instead

“Assemble surprises.”— I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. This is a very literal translation

“The me today,”— Longer version: The me I am today

“Chock-full of abilities.”— OG lyrics 一身本領 go a little bit like “the whole body is full of skills/abilities”. I wanted to just write “full of talents” but “talent” isn’t quite accurate. I went with “chock-full” cuz it sounds funny

“Clash with fire in a duel,”— I like to think that this line refers to Red Son and I like Red Son :]

“Carrying an endless mission,”— I originally wrote “shouldering” instead of “carrying”, but because 懷 means “embrace/chest” or “harboring”, I thought “carrying” sounds less grueling and more accurate than “shouldering”

“Eyeballs looking around,”— “eyes staring wide and round” probably fits 眼仔睩睩 better, but hopefully “eyeballs” sounds wide and round enough?? And I wanted to turn it into an action so I described the eyes looking around like they’re on guard!

“Grappling arduously with the enemy,”— Lots of ways to translate 搏命: fighting for your life, wrestling for your life, blah blah blah. I hope “grappling” is evocative enough 😭

“Quick-witted actions, be clever,”— I’m not sure if it’s “quick-witted, actions sharp and clever” or “quick-witted actions, be sharp and clever” 💀 靈活 means “mentally flexible”, sharp醒 means “smart, clever, alert, quick-witted”, something like that

“It’s called the NSoFFM,”— The lyric lacks a pronoun in Cantonese so I’m not sure if it means “call me/you the NSoFFM”, “call for the NSoFFM”, “you’re called the NSoFFM”, or something else. I interpreted it as SWK listing a bunch of traits and saying “someone like this will be called the NSoFFM”

“Skyrocket to ascension / I rise at Flower Fruit Mountain.”— 飈升 means shooting up really quickly/suddenly. I’m not sure what “shooting up” means in this context so I kept it as vague as possible. I also translated 飈升 in two different ways “skyrocket to ascension” and simply “rise” even though both lyrics mean the same thing in Cantonese. ���Skyrocket” is most accurate IMO, but it sounds weird by itself

“I always strive for self-improvement,”— The og is just “I forever self-strengthen”, which sounds weird to me so I expanded it

“When I wedge into the crack,”— No idea what this means?? I’m guessing it’s supposed to evoke the image of SWK jamming a weapon into a crack? Also I wanted to write “wedge into the fissure” but when I googled “fissure” it showed me results for anal fissures and I was so put off by it I just used “crack” instead, even though “crack” sounds much sillier than “fissure”

“Demons please relax, lest you lose control.”— Nothing to note, I just really like the original lyric. It’s so cocky and badass and SO Wukong (or MK!) /pos

“Use kindness as the mark of recognition,”— Not sure what this really means? I interpret it as “kindness is my goal/principle”, but 記認 means both “marking” and “recognize/remember” so uh

“Evildoing is difficult to regard as the elder brother,”— The og lyric sounds fine but trying to understand it is?? It’s not “evildoers”, it’s “the way/path of evildoing”, but then it says “it’s difficult to be an older brother (non-familial)” like who is it difficult for??? Also “brother” here means a fellow disciple/classmate under the same teacher/master/school, so like the relationship between SWK and the other pilgrims (except their master, of course)

“I can’t be beat to death, swim carefree at the edge of the sky.”— The most egregious lyric IMO. I have absolutely no clue what it’s supposed to mean so maybe I’m just not that good at Cantonese??? It could be “I can’t beat to death swimming carefree at the edge of the sky” or “I can’t be beaten to death, swim carefree at the edge of the sky”. The swimming part lacks a pronoun so idk who’s swimming? What is happening in this sentence?? Help??

“Risk your life when taking action,”— 拼命 either means “as hard as you can” or “risking your life”. I’m only assuming it means the latter because I interpret this as SWK lecturing MK on how to be a hero

“And the battle lineup is again full of wit,”— I can sorta grasp what this means, but idk how to write it in English. 陣容 means the appearance/formation of your battalion and can extend to mean the array of abilities in a certain lineup. Not sure how to actually describe this though 😭 also I used “clever” for sharp醒 earlier but changed it to “wit” here so it’d be a noun and sound like an ability or something

-Jobs in the group: Protection of the base, fighting Wraiths, scouting, hunting 

Weapons of choice: large kitchen knife/machete, throwing knives, any gun he can get his hands on

-Head canon voice: ???

-Not similar to canon/og!Killer. Renegade!Killer doesn’t have stages really, he does have some form of interaction with a Chara though. 

-Goes by any pronouns, mainly uses He/Him as his default one though. Is asexual.

-Went to prison and when the apocalypse hit he escaped with Dust. Just decided to kill people for shits and giggles, was bored of his own life so thought he would do something more entertaining with it. Was slightly influenced by his Chara to do this.

-As a teen he was also arrested for arson, so it’s not like it was his first time being arrested when he killed people. 

-Tried to attack Dust when they first broke out of prison. Dust kicked his ass though, but didn’t kill him. Since he had nothing better to do he decided to tag along with Dust. In which they became good friends.

-Found a phone that has an Alex G playlist on it, has basically made it part of his personality. It’s not like they find that many phones with ‘good’ music on them. Well music that he likes. So he treasures this phone. He had never heard of Alex G before the apocalypse. 

-Loves pulling pranks on anyone he can, or joining Ink in doing something stupid. Often gets told off by Nightmare for doing those things. But he won’t stop unless he gets threatened with some sort of consequences.

-Before joining the group, Nightmare was the one in the group that said to give him a chance. Nightmare got put in charge of him after that, but Nightmare had made it clear to him that he can do his own thing, as long as no one is harmed. Though due to the pranks Nightmare has to step in now and then.

-Forgets to take care of himself half the time, often having others remind him to do things, such as Horror reminding him to eat. 

-Doesn’t feel emotions too often, when he tends to feel emotions more intensely his eye sockets have his eye lights appear. 

-Soul always hovering in front of his chest, he can’t explain why, he doesn’t remember when it happened. Just always remembers it being there since he was a teen. 

-Finds it hard to care about things, so unless someone somehow managed to become a friend of his, everyone else he doesn’t care about. Even then if your a friend he may find it hard sometimes to care. Also has no sense of danger due to not caring. Understands when he shouldn’t mess with someone/something, but anything else he doesn’t really have a sense of danger for. 

-He is a flirty person, but never takes it seriously. He may flirt with people then insult them in the same sentence. Tends to insult people who take his flirting seriously. He just finds it fun to do, having others question his actions and just seeing others get confused. It’s one of the least chaotic ways he will mess with someone. 

-Has to wash his clothing on the regular due to the liquid coming from his eye sockets. And the fact he tends to use his clothes to wipe away these tears. 

-Sometimes the tears/liquid in his eye sockets can blur his vision slightly, so sometimes struggles to see things. This is particularly bad if he has to read something. 

-Good at remembering completely useless information, always says ‘You never know if it will be useful’. Has probably had one or two situations where this information is actually useful and has been smug about it.

-Despite his boots having laces on them, he doesn’t actually know how to tie laces properly, just tends to tie them into an awkward knot and pray for the best. Sometimes he may bother Nightmare to tie them for him.

-Adore’s Horror’s cat, Fig. He originally wanted Fig, but both Nightmare and Horror said he’d not take care of Fig properly. It annoyed him slightly, but he can’t complain too much, he’s with Horror most of the time anyway so gets to see Fig every day. 

-Will bite people if they put limbs too close to his mouth. Has bitten Dust, Horror and Nightmare before, also tried to bite Cross but Cross reacted too quickly for him.

-Will steal Horror’s and Dust’s clothes sometimes. Acts oblivious to it when they try to say anything to him. Can also steal Nightmare’s oversized hoodies because they’re a normal size on him. Nightmare doesn’t give any reaction to it.

-Often carries a knife around with him, the only time he actively puts it somewhere out the way is when he’s interacting with Fig.

How they feel about:

Nightmare: Likes him, thinks Nightmare is fun to be around when Nightmare is in a joking mood. Is often the one finding cat related clothing to give to Nightmare. Also tends to pick Nightmare up a lot, treating him like a teddy bear since Nightmare doesn’t complain about it. 

Dream: Only really tends to see Dream when Dream comes to hang out with Nightmare. Has picked up on the fact Dream is unsure of him. He never makes an effort to befriend Dream though, or calm his worries. Finds it funny to try to make Dream uncomfortable, e.g. staring at him for too long. At least till Night tells him to knock it off.

Cross: Thinks it’s fun to mess with Cross, especially when it’s something involving Night. Thinks it’s hilarious when Cross gets super protective over Night, cause it annoys Night as well, two birds with one stone. He’s chill about Cross, but just thinks his reactions to things are funny. Was one of the ones with Cross when Cross had screamed about the cow statue, doesn’t let him live it down and often hides cow related things in Cross’s room.

Blue: Can get along with Blue from time to time, but also likes to insult him for no reason. He doesn’t interact with Blue enough to have a proper opinion on him.

Ink: Can get along with Ink when it comes to pranks and joking around. And other time Killer isn’t that fond of them. Only finding them fun when they have something planned.

Dust: Sees him as a good friend, can crack jokes with him and lets Dust cling to him when they’re doing things together. He’s seen Dust’s face when they were in prison together. Has never mentioned Dust’s face to anyone though mainly out of respect for Dust, and also he doesn’t want Dust to kick his ass over it.

Horror: Likes Horror, sees him as a good friend. Often tells jokes and stuff to Horror, sometimes tries to rope Horror into his pranks that he does, but Horror never has any of it wanting to stay out of it. Horror normally makes sure that he’s okay, and makes sure he’s fed. Knows Horror struggles to read a situation, so he tends to announce the mood of a room, partly to annoy the others in the room and partly to let Horror know the mood of the room. Knows Horror is a murderer.

Error: Has tried to poke Error’s shoulder and face a few times, normally gets attacked by the strings. He doesn’t really mind Error just finds it fun to mess with him. When around Nightmare he does chill out with annoying Error, since Nightmare doesn’t want to be breaking up a fight.

Lust: Lust treats him with respect, so he gives Lust some respect back, still will prank Lust now and then but doesn’t mind Lust. Knows Lust gets along with Horror, Dust and Nightmare, so since his friends like Lust he will play nice.

Fell/Edge: Only tends to run into him whenever he’s following Nightmare around. Fell is always on edge around him, he doesn’t really care though. Just finds it funny. Doesn’t really have an opinion of him. 

Geno: Doesn’t really run into him that often and normally Geno ignores him. Doesn’t really have an opinion of him.

Outer: Talks to Outer often, normally when Outer is on the roofs on a night. He tends to be chill around Outer. Outer was wary of him at first but after a few interactions they get along. He’s unsure if he’d consider Outer a friend or not. But does enjoy the peace he gets when he hangs out alone with Outer.

Sci: No real opinion of him, other than he’s the only one in the group he isn’t allowed to prank. Knows he should respect him, but he only gives Sci the bare minimum. Knows Sci is the reason he can stick around but he just doesn’t care about that.

Reaper/Death: Has talked to him two times before. Has no opinion of him. Did try to throw a knife at him which Reaper caught, will watch Reaper and Dust play board games, but that's really the extent of their interactions.

Fresh: Not met him before. Did hear about him from Dust though which made him ask around about who Fresh is. Since no one really knows that much about Fresh he’s determined to fight Fresh if he ever sees him.

Gans/Echo: Forgets this dude exists, since Echo doesn’t leave the radio room too much. No opinion on Echo other than he's a chill guy. Echo doesn’t have much reaction to his pranks, so tends not to prank Echo as much as the others.

Chief: Chief is always yapping at him to get him out of certain areas, doesn’t really mind Chief, but doesn’t like how Chief thinks he can boss him around. Will sometimes do things Chief says not to do out of spite.

Instead of doing a Six Sentence Sunday today, I think I'll do a short tutorial on copying over fanfic from FFnet to Ao3.

So you've got some old fics on FFnet and you'd like to back them up to Ao3, given the instability of FFnet. And for whatever reason you don't have the original files for the fics, or maybe you have edits to the FFnet versions that you don't want to lose that the OG files don't have. Whatever the reason, you're looking to directly copy over your fic from FFnet to Ao3. And you're looking for a relatively easy way to do so, but Ao3's import functionality doesn't work with FFnet web pages.

Never fear! It's actually a fairly easy process to get your fic copied over from FFnet.

First, head over to FFnet and open up the fic you want to port over to Ao3. You don't need to log in if you don't want to, just so long as the fic in question is yours and you can access the page, then you're good.

In a separate tab, open Ao3 and login, then choose the option for posting a new work.

Now back on the FFnet tab, you should be able to directly copy over the title, summary, fandom, and what little tagging was available on that site onto the relevant Ao3 fields in the tab you have for a new fic. You'll also want to take note of the published date on FFnet and back date the new work in the Ao3 tab.

FFnet may not have a lot of useful tag data, but it's pretty easy to replicate and build off that in Ao3.

Now for the hard part. Which is still pretty easy. Getting the fic body, plus any notes in the fic itself, copied over to FFnet.

While getting around FFnet's lockdown on the text of the fics they host is fairly simple - I'm pretty sure it's entirely css based - you don't really need to do that in order to get the body of your fic copied. And, honestly, even if you do have a work around in place to allow copying of the fic's text... you will probably find the following method a lot easier still.

In the body of the fic, right click the first line of the fic, which should bring up a menu with a bunch of options. On Firefox or Chrome you want the inspect option.

This'll bring up the dev tools with the html inspection tab open and, if you give it a few seconds to load, the specific line you right clicked to inspect should become the visibly selected section of the html.

The selected section of the html should be a paragraph (or <p>) element. You're going to want to right click the div (<div>) element that encapsulates that paragraph and the rest of the paragraphs in the fic body. This'll bring up another browser menu with the option to copy, which will bring up a flyout menu when you select it. From that flyout menu, you want the select the option for Inner HTML.

You have officially copied the html for the fic body. And you can dump that entirely in html format straight into Ao3's html work text editor. Then switch it to rich text for easier editing if you want to fix any spelling, grammar, formatting, or aesthetic issues. I typically try to fix at least the line breaks since it took a long while before FFnet adopted real line breaks and so there are a lot of fics where I have various combinations of dashes, em-dashes, equals signs, and other characters as line breaks. I figure, if I'm bringing the fic to Ao3 then I can try to make it more screen reader friendly in the process.

You can also move fic notes around in order to move pre/post fic notes out of the fic body or basically whatever you want to the fic. Maybe re-read it to determine any additional tagging you want to add now that your fic has access to Ao3's much more robust tagging system.

But that's it. You can hit post and have your fic with all it's original notes, and a back dated post date to reflect when it was actually written, all available on Ao3 now.

It's a pretty quick process, all told, and the only real bottleneck you might encounter is any time spent in re-editing the fic between migrating and posting. Even chaptered fics are fairly easy to migrate with this process, since the bulk of the work in publishing a new chapter is just copying the inner html and then moving any notes to the appropriate location before hitting post.

Anyway, for my fellow fic writers looking to move your old FFnet fics to a more stable archive, I hope this process helps a lot.

a lot of comments I get are related to prose/description so maybe that? I tend to spend a lot of time trying to pick out the exact right words for each sentence so that it has the sonic/rhythmic quality i'm going for. golden is probably the best example of this; I worked and reworked those sentences for many months until I was satisfied haha. I remember wanting it to feel sort of like the building of a song

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

my writing can be sort of dense and hard to get through sometimes!! I think I have a tendency to try and pack a lot into every sentence, which is fun for me to write, but can be difficult to get through as a reader. it's sort of the polar opposite to how I approach drawing silly comics, where the goal is to deliver the point/joke as clearly and effectively as possible. writing puts me in a much more contemplative headspace, which makes my fic not quite as digestable I think

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I admit i am guilty of peppering in random french words in ml fic whenever I feel like it 💔 I usually use italics though

Solomon observation for lesson 11

I'm gonna do a read more in case some of you haven't yet, but make sure you block the different spoiler tags in your settings to avoid spoilers in the future, ok?

I find Solomon's whole interaction with Belphie to be mind boggling. Solomon has always been the kind to playfully act ignorant of jabs at him and blame for situations that he outright causes and brings about.

During S4, he helps Belphie and Satan with a prank that actually causes Lucifer to be bound to Solomon and Mephistopheles. But plays innocent at first.

Here we see him unashamed, correcting the blame and being willing to be public enemy number 1. A good mirror to Mammon's odd blame taking during the Cerberus excursion. Mammon is known for abandoning MC to his brothers wrath of him, and using them as a shield for balme (the custard) but he steps up and tells the truth about who got everyone to go to the castle

And, did anyone else get a little freaked out and think "we're about to see Solomon do something with his full chest? Like actually put forth a great deal of effort into fucking the boys up....if need be?"

We've never seen Solomon truly angry before. Peeved off maybe, but full on wrath/anger/rage? Not yet. Still haven't I don't believe. But he's made it Crystal clear he is feeling things that aren't just neutrality and mischievousness.

But I worry he's doing his regression arc. He's treating demons like ticking time bombs, which is fair on one hand. But he's removed himself in a way that kinda makes me think he's a hypocrite. Like he's better than them because he's not a demon.

He automatically assumes the worst about the lot, instead of just taking it out on Belphie for attacking MC. He claims they're ganging up on MC and takes offense to it.

He still sees them as "other" than himself, and always keeps how to deal with them specifically in mind. Always keeping them at arms length. Never fully allowing anyone to get close and Allow himself to be vulnerable.

And not just with the brothers, but with MC too.

How much do we (MCs) know about Solomon?

1. He can't grow old or die from sickness, but he is killable.

2. He's ancient. Far older than he claims he can remember.

3. He's had a pact with Barbatos for centuries.

4. He's a scientist/alchemist at heart. The sentence: "for science!" Was basically made for fuckers like him.

5. He claims ignorance to sarcasm, taking people's insults as compliments.

6. He can't cook and He accidentally even makes potions when cooking. (Swear I think it's cause he's immortal. He's 'for science'd his way into the kitchen and developed a fucked up sense of taste)

7. He's known 13 just a bit longer than Barbatos, or so it seems currently.

8. He's got a one track mind. Once he's got an experiment going, good luck getting his attention till he's done.

9. He's traveled through time before.

10. He likes to keep secrets. Even from MC about seemingly the most trivial things.

11. He sees demons as puppets and tools to be used, not really friends to be close with. He started to change that in the OG, but again, I'm worried this is regression era, where he's gonna slide back into old habbits.

I also worry it's a bit of jealousy making him act out. This is the most time since MC was stuck in the human world with no teleportation magic that he's gotten to spend with them.

He's gotten to live with them at Cocytus Hall, eat dinner every night with them. Go shopping. He's getting that newly wed experience the brothers have got since day 1.

Once the brothers accept MC as human, that'll come to a crash and burn. Simeon and Luke will go back to the celestial realm and MC's room will be open for them to go to (return to) and his honeymoon phase will be over as the newly infatuated brothers aren't gonna be keen on sharing their new love with him. It'll be just like present day

I said it in a different post, but Solomon has got issues, when it comes to having faith in someone other than himself.

He doesn't trust Asmo or Barbatos 100% cause they're demons, and he doesn't trust MC blindly yet, despite or perhaps because both of them are human.

He's constantly thinking about the next move, or 20 potential ones in any situation and calculating how to Speedrun the best outcome. And to be a scientist about it, he can't let feelings sway his ultimate decision.

He's got a staggering inability to just say "I trust you", take a backsest or to trust MC's judgement. He wouldn't be able to answer MC if they asked him to trust them over the grimmore thing.

If you choose the "I'll follow your lead" option before meeting Lucifer, he says this...

Solomon doesn't have faith in anyone but himself, and seeing MC's faith in him is enough to make him be vocal about it. Like he's honestly surprised his apprentice and romantic partner trusts him fully.

If there's something MC has buckets of: it's moxie and faith, and god damn if that ain't one hell of a combination.

I may be too out-of-touch from the fandom to know what people would consider bad and worst but I do have some that others may have an issue with! AND I WAS JUST ABOUT TO ASK YOU ABOUT HEADCANONS TOO, BUT YOU GOT ME FIRST! AND I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW YOURS VERY MUCH!! (although I haven't watched most of ares and orion so i may not understand some for now, I would love to hear them still!!)

This ended up a long post, I'm making this cut...

I'll start with a tame one (may also be really boring), but this one needs my other hcs for anyone to understand the actual one I want to share. Here's a "brief" list of the others (happened between og series and inago):

Gouenji has unparallel knowledge of ALL Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, and Ghibli movies and will defend the female characters with his life. (This is why I thought he probably knows MLP as I said on the last ask)

He's not a fan of social media and does not use anything outside of inalink and private messaging. Not because he's cool, he just doesn't understand them. Much like in honosuto with the laptop, initially with inatube, and how he always forgets his useless phone.

Yuuka convinced him to make an inatter (twitter) and inagram account because she does not want anyone to steal the @ and that she also wants to be able to tag him on her posts (and of his teammates/friends) so they can keep the memories. He saves all the pictures he gets tagged in and sometimes prints them out to keep in an album he designed (he's very good with crafts). I still can't believe honosuto came up with those social media names (except for inagram)

He only cared about the bare minimum use of social media so he only ever retweets in inatter (never made his own tweet ever; but he does reply on some that addresses him) and only posts his creations on inagram with no caption or a few words about what he made (made takoyaki, felted a bunny, crocheted a penguin, made cupcakes, etc.).

He only has three kinds of inatter rts: about soccer, about making art, and tweets of his friends and family. Yuuka made his bio in both of them. He also became good at taking pictures of his creations thanks to Yuuka.

However, he is mildly updated with internet language because that's all he hears from his sister and her friends and from his own friends in the group chat that he only talks in when he's mentioned. He assimilated most of the phrases they use in chats.

Having said all this, he almost has no social media presence. You're lucky to see his page updated after two weeks. He doesn't reply with strangers either unless it's a kid who loves or interested in soccer.

He also doesn't share much in interviews. Very bare minimum of answering questions and always answers in short sentences and just poses for the camera shortly before he bounces. His favorite answer to questions is "oh that's private" not because it's private but because he doesn't want to talk that long in public unless it's something that needs to be said. Example is a question of his opinion on human rights-- something that his agent and/or soccer club prevented the press from ever asking him again (an hc drop another time). He always had strong opinions and doesnt hold back in expressing them (og series and inago) and that's trouble for the club sponsors so they make a lot of effort of stopping anyone from having the opportunity of asking him anything outside of his personal and athlete life.

And the last context here is that Gouenji is autistic, but we already know that.

Okay so now time for the actual bad HC I want to share... which is how Gouenji came out as bisexual to the public

This started with an inatter thread of a person criticizing Anna (Frozen) for her actions in the first movie that reached Gouenji's timeline. Gouenji answers with 7 tweets worth of respectful paragraph of why Anna shouldn't be criticized because of how she was brought up, because of her isolation, and because of her grief, etc. So, everybody lost their mind, etc etc. AND NOW, at the midst of all this, a soccer fan asked him the question below that he answered without thinking much about:

This blew up and his notifications gets flooded with questions about his sexuality and questionable taste that he really didn't mind answering if it wasn't blowing up his phone.

He was out with everyone in his circle that he forgot the world didn't know he's bi. So, he fixed that by tweeting "yes, im bisexual" on his timeline. He logs out and then decided to wait a few months before logging in again.

This didn't sound as fun as I amped it up to be but I think it's a terribly bland HC that I find kind of funny

Tumblr's searching method for posts while on your account is almost comically inconvenient.

First off, private posts/reblogs made by you don't show up no matter what you search, even if you go by tags. Even if it's recent.

This is my dang account! Why would I want it to be private to ME?

"Well just copy and paste the link of your private posts!"

I don't wanna open up Google Docs every time I do that! Even if I did use this method the whole thing would be a hassle to me personally.

Plus, as far as I can tell, in mobile, you literally CAN NOT get links from private posts. This is especially true if you have a post you didn't reblog, and wrote and made yourself, in which case the share button is nonexistent and you can't go to the OG poster, because you ARE the OG poster, and there's no share link!

It doesn't even really matter if they have tags, are public or not, because even if they do and they are, if they're too old, or buried under too many posts, it seems like they don't show up even if your post is public.

Can't remember any specific tags, but you can recall what the post is about, a sentence, or a specific word?

Too bad! It STILL won't show up if you search for it!

(This is the exact reason why I never use the Spotify app on phone (honestly I don't even use it on PC anymore either), because basic things like PICKING A SONG is available on PC with zero restrictions (as long as an ad doesn't play) but you have to go through some kind of 3-minute intermission since the app plays a song you don't give a hoot about and isn't even in your playlist, before your entire playlist shuffles and shoffles around for NO APPARENT REASON!)

I hope there's some kind of convenient addon or thing I just didn't ever catch or something, because this is incredibly annoying!

absolutely not 😭 with fic i more or less write as it comes to me and then send it through extended editing that further beefs it up or pares it down (sometimes both) so it's like a fun little surprise every time (said through gritted teeth)

28. any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?

my version of 2014 tumblr was 2014 pinterest where i took in a lot of shitty writing advice so like, don't do that. but in all seriousness two things i live by are change the background color of your document from white to some kind of muted or pale color, it does indeed help with headaches, and if you're stuck and can't figure out where to go the problem more than likely isn't actually what comes next but something you wrote 3 to 5 lines back.

36. how do you come up with fic titles? what's the one you're most proud of?

45% of the time it's song lyrics that i meticulously comb for, and the other 55% is a mash of words meant to convey an ultra specific image that's representative of the fic in my mind's filing system. i think i'd say i'm most proud of smudged math on the back of a receipt (txf, a post-abduction arc look at scully & her estranged brother charlie) or send a postcard from down the street (west wing, complicated post-canon relationships that maybe aren't that complicated after all)

I always try to respond to comments as best I can, mainly just to show appreciation for getting a comment in the first place (I don't get comments on my works that much so I get stupidly delighted with every one) and also because I just absolutely love chatting about my works and my thought processes or events that happened in a fic/chapter.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

As someone who has autistic over-empathy and is very conflict averse I really struggle to write angst so if I ever do some it's always resolved asap.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This is hard bc for the reasons listed above I love happy endings. My initial thought was Night Life which is more of a hopeful ending than happy. I also loved writing the end scene for I Don't Feel So Good (another prompt request I initially posted here)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I am not a religious woman but I thank God every day that I don't because I'm pretty sure it would make me stop writing

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

The thought of writing smut has always terrified me bc that shit is hard (pun semi-intended). I also have not had any irl smutty experiences so I wouldn't really know what I'd be writing about. So I'll always do the whole "fade to black with heavying implications that they got laid" shtick. Smut writers of the world are braver than any US Marine and they all have my respect 🫡

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Yes! I wouldn't describe my two crossover fics as crazy, but I absolutely adore them both (and hilariously they're my two top kudosed Trek fics!)

Definitely world building, I think it's because I'm so detailed orientated that my brain instantly goes to the little things and honestly I find it so much fun even if it takes forever.

Dialogue, specifically making sure each character has their own voice. The "he would not fucking say that" post lives in a corner of my brain at all times and fills me with The Dread every time I write a dialog heavy scene and I hate it 😭

62.) what’s the weirdest reason you’ve ever shipped something?

Idk if this counts as weird per se but i straight up started shipping winteriron (Tony Stark x Bucky Barnes) because of THIS FUCKING FIC. It sold me on them SO HARD. Sometimes all it takes is one godtier fic that does everything right to get you hooked on a rarepair ✌️😔😔😔

65.) what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve written? 

If we're talking og titles i came up with myself, the title of my unpublished TES Oblivion fic is The Stars Have No Names, which ive always been fond of, especially combined with its planned sequel, But Those We Give Them-- which makes a full sentence that just sorta encapsulates the vibe of the whole thing in a way that really scratches my brain just right. This is closely followed by the piece i did for the DSMP Comics Zine, A Few E.G.G.s Short of the Full Scramble, which has multiple layers of puns loaded into it and makes me laugh like a lunatic every time i remember them

As for stuff that isnt original (aka song lyrics or poetry verses, which i steal from shamelessly), i'd have to say im most fond of sightless, unless the eyes reappear, which is the tma fic i wrote that accidentally predicted a decent chunk of the podcast's ending 😭 if i had a fucking nickel.... The verse is ripped from T.S. Eliot's "The Hollow Men" and i really loved how it just perfectly hits the vibes i was going for in that fic. Extremely on-the-nose titles are a game and brother i am WINNING

81.) if you could go back in time and give your younger self a piece of writing advice specific to you, what would it be?

"Hello tiny TJ. First of all, you are a transgender dyke. No this isnt relevant i just thought you ought to know. Anyway cool it with the perfectionism man one day people are gonna read a fic where every individual tag warning you've added is its own separate vine boom and you're gonna get tons of compliments on it despite the fact that it isnt what you consider fully polished. Got that written down? Cool. Now go forth and kiss women, peace<3"

91.) how has your writing style changed over the years?

My writing's always been pretty descriptive, but over the last few years its REALLY shifted into overdrive on the imagery. I think thats always been my biggest strength as a writer, and its something i really, really enjoy doing. As ive said in the past: if im not painting pictures with my words then what, pray tell, is the point!!!

The other thing ive noticed is that ive been dipping my toes into more experimental formatting, whether thats in regards to the story's structure (shout out to that time i planned to write a fic in reverse chronological order), the points of view (second person my beloved), different narration styles, or just the way the words on the page look-- something i know has been directly inspired by my cousin, who has an unpublished 85k Dead Space fanfic which replaces an ENTIRE CHAPTER with a twine game. The man is insane and i love him so much and one day i will bully him into finishing this fic because its not even halfway done what the fuck. Anyway thats my answer THANK YOU BOOK FOR SENDING THESE :DD

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention Anon, and thank you to @cometsweepandleonidsfly. Please read the OG posts for more info on their methodology, limitations and all that. Of course I have thoughts, all of which I will cover but first I'll do what tuiyla does best and take this dataset and turn it into something visual. Or at least try.

So to start us off, main characters' screentime in the OG 13 episodes:

I was surprised to see Will come in with over 40% of screentime and decidedly more than Finn or Rachel. Rachel "only" being third is a surprise in and of itself but the favouring of the three "pillars" is clear. The drop between Rachel and Quinn is not insignificant and it reminds me of how big the difference between singing stats often was. Quinn coming in ahead of Kurt and Puck is somewhat surprising, as is Emma and Sue being so low. But compared to a lot of the ND kids, they had significant roles in their scenes. All in all this deffo confirms my view that there was way too much Will early on and the show was too heavy on its three mains.

Season 4 is looking more evenly distributed even if there's quite the drop between Blaine and Marley. Blaine's lead might seem crazy, but he's in just over 29% of the season compared to Will's well over 40% for the first 13. We have more characters but only three more than what I counted for the previous chart so not too bad distribution wise. What's surprising is the newbies, at least the triangle being so high up and Tina and Artie lagging so far behind Sam. Rachel being in the middle is shocking, of course, but keep in mind she fully missed a few episodes and when she was in a scene chances are it focused solely on her. Kurt being after Kitty is more surprising to me, as is Santana being so far behind. Granted, she missed a lot of episodes but my heart weeps anyway. She's still far ahead of Sue and Emma and I'm once again astonished by the mark Jane Lynch and Jayma Mays leave. I wish we had the numbers for Quinn, Mercedes, Puck and Mike here but oh well.

I love that we have a Lima vs NYC stat because it really puts things into perspective:

Wow. Where's the "too much NYC crowd" now, huh. Of course, this explains why even Rachel is relatively low on the list and how the newbies had so much screentime.

What's interesting is the difference in distribution, i.e. season 4's being imo so much better. In many ways it had to be but still. I tried visualizing it via two pie charts of the percentages but they're not that obvious and so I cba to colour them properly.

Instead, I took those percentages and compared the season 1 characters with the season 4 ones. So the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and etc. characters compared would look like this:

That was a nonsensical sentence but what I mean is, red zone is OG 13 and green season 4. The closer the line is to 50% the more the two seasons are alike in how much they feature characters, and the line generally being over 50% in season 1's favour tells us that the main chs there had more screentime. Again this is partly because season 4 had a bigger cast overall; it featured characters not accounted for within the data. But I'd also argue it distributed the more or less same screentime more equally so that's why Blaine's lead isn't the same as Will's in the OG 13. By the way, ignore the names on the line google sheets just didn't let me delete the redundant labels.

Something hopefully a bit more demonstrative: I divided the OG 13 by, well, 13 and multiplied by 22 to "get a full season" from those stats (notably these are not the full season 1 numbers) and compared those minutes with the season 4 ones. This shows you the difference even better even if we only compare the top 5 characters of each season:

Again ignore the labels, they're the season 1 top 5. Will's screentime projected to 22 episodes is waaaay more than what Blaine got in season 4 and this gap really only starts to balance out once the season 1 drop happens with Quinn and Kurt. Even then, comparatively, they were better featured than their season 4 counterparts, Sam and Ryder. To be fair, I'd much rather watch Quinn and Kurt than Sam and Ryder.

And finally, what I love the most: singing stats and bubble charts! The most I could possibly bring to this conversation is adding singing into the mix and see how that compares to the characters' screentime.

See this reddit post for some background on my singing stats database. What you need to know for this is that I have a system for different types of songs not just the number of songs the given character was featured in, so I give point totals and hope it's a more accurate reflection of how much people sang. And how does that compare to their screentime? Well.

Note that this first chart is a character's OG13 screentime compared to their overall season 1 singing.

Rachel sang the most, unsurprisingly, so her and Finn singing that much more than Will while appearing less created this interesting contrast. All three are waaay ahead in screentime as this perhaps demonstrates better than previous charts, and we see that compared to her screentime Mercedes sang quite a bit. But the difference between our 1%-ers and the proletariat is clear and we see how little Kuinn's screentime mattered, in a sense. Sue and Emma are basically nonexistent on both fronts when compared to others, so much so that even Santana with her back 9 songs almost catches up to the crowd. Make of the rest of this what you will.

Since I realized while writing this that I should have probably looked at how much they sang in the OG 13, here's that chart:

Now this looks quite different and is perhaps the better chart to analyze. Finn is further behind Rachel and her lead in singing is undisputable, whereas Mercedes stays between Finn and Will with singing. Sue didn't get a song in the OG 13 and, sadly, neither did Santana so they're missing entirely. Emma is barely there with her one solo but still ahead of Kurt, who had the screentime but evidently not the songs. His sole entry is the Defying Gravity duet. Quinn had comparatively more in the first 13 and that elevates her above Puck and Tina but I still wouldn't exactly say it's proportionate to her screentime. It's quite all over the place, particularly when compared to season 4:

So season 4 follows more of a trend and what would be expected. Meening, no huuuuge outliers and less of an upper 1% feel, though Blaine is clearly "winning" in terms of both singing and screentime. Marley is second in both regards and we see a more or less clear pattern of singing and screentime collating. Tartie sing somewhat little compared to their screentime but most of it checks out as realistic. How the mighty have fallen with Will being last in terms of singing. But then, of course, we have Pezberry, the only two who I'd say are not following the established trend. Both sing more relative to their screentime than most characters, with Rachel almost being up there with Marley and yet being in the middle with her screentime. This isn't a huge shock or anything. But then we have Santana, who's well behind Will in terms of screentime and yet sings as much as Kurt and is in the same ballpark as the likes of Unique and Tina. This means Santana's time on screen in season 4 was well spent, with the likes of Girl on Fire, Nutbush, Cold Hearted and, of course, Mine. A stark difference to season 1.

Miscellaneous thoughts:

A bit baffled by the decision to include chs like Kent and Brad in the OG 13 post but not the alumni in season 4, but hey I'm not the one doing the research. I ignored non-mains for my OG 13 visualizations.

I would LOVE to see this done for the whole series but obviously it's not like it could ever be truly representative and it would take soooo much effort. I'm grateful for this glimpse at screentime distributions.

I know not all of this was super clear and detailed so please feel free to let me know if I should clarify anything. Like I told another Anon, you will be seeing more stats from me because I do love this sort of stuff and this was really fun to explore. Again much thanks that this dataset exists and I hope I could offer something new and interesting with it.

Fic Origin Story

What was your first fandom (reading and/or writing)?

9-1-1 Lone Star/Tarlos! I’d never given much thought to reading or writing fanfic, but then I fell in love with Tarlos and my entire life was over. Suddenly I needed it like air. I checked out ao3 and was blown away by what I found. I thought...maybe I can do this?...

2. What was the first story you ever wrote (even if it was never posted) and what made you decide to write it?

Sensitivity, which is about Carlos and TK getting to know each other on a deeper level in the early days. But I only wrote and shared what was in my head because the fanfic I’d read gave me the confidence to try. Thank you beautiful writers who are so skilled and inspiring.

3. What's a piece of advice you would give to your younger fic-writing self?

I started writing fic in September, but I’d tell that young whippersnapper that I’m not actually an interloper just because I didn’t discover 911LS sooner. Imposter syndrome should not impact your hobbies. (Also I’d tell myself to write in first person, present tense from the first fic onwards instead of the fourth...)

4. What's an early fandom interaction that stuck with you (be it a nice comment, a friend you made, a fic that got a lot of feedback etc.)?

The lovely and vastly talented @cinnaluminum read Sensitivity and sent me such a kind message on tumblr (I probably had three followers at the time). I was so touched by it, and remain so. As it was my first fanfic and first piece of non-poetry I’d written in years, it meant an awful lot to know that I was on the right track.

Post a sentence or two from one of your older fics, and a sentence or two from a newer one (if you want).

From the OG, Sensitivity:

"Can I get you a drink or something now?" Carlos asked, trying not to sound flustered.

"I've actually never had a lavender-chamomile tea before," TK said with a wry smile, "reminds me of my grandma but I'm willing to give it a try."

This made Carlos laugh – half-embarrassed, half-delighted – and TK chuckled, creasing up and hugging into Carlos a little. Somewhere inside Carlos, the roof was blown clean off the butterfly house, and he had to jump up and pull himself together. "Ok, I'll be right back."

 From the fic I’ve just posted, Man to Man:

Carlos nods. A memory is sparking. “Your heart is what you take out there with you,” he says. “Your dad told me that. It was the day you were kidnapped. Before we knew you were missing.”

“Yeah. I remember you telling me.”

“I loved him for it.” Carlos swells with emotion and tears come again, but he doesn’t much mind – it soothes the lingering sting in his eyes from the smoke. He looks at TK and it’s like looking through a kaleidoscope. TK’s blurry shape and the white light around him breaks into segments and slowly spins. Carlos blinks to correct his vision, and then TK is much closer, wiping Carlos’ face with his hands.

A sentence or two becomes a sentence or nine sorry!!!

This was fun to do. I'm weirdly nostalgic for just six months ago when I started doing this.

“Okay, okay, okay,” I said, catching my breath and winding down. “I’ve got one. What’s the most ‘you’ve got to be kidding me’ way you’ve died?” Once more, they had to think on it. “I was orbiting the black hole at the center of Brittle Hollow — don’t ask how I got into that position in the first place — maneuvering so that I can get caught by a gravity elevator and lifted to safety, when this huge chunk of the crust breaks off in front of me. I didn’t have enough time or thrust to get out of its way, so I just…” They illustrated by smacking their palm against their other hand’s fist. “Killed me instantly, which I guess is better than dying either from internal bleeding or a cracked visor in a near-vacuum. You?”

“So no turning around and heading back to the first area.” They held up their hand, first finger partially curled. “Not that we have a way to get back there.” First finger straightened. “Not that we want to go back there. Unless you want to finish reading that book you didn’t like.” “It’s not that I didn’t like it. I mean, I wrote it; I’d better like it. But the fact that they had it at all creeped me out.” “Yeah, I’m not sure how the third party got my ship log either.”

“No offense, Morgan, but the fact that you didn’t smash your way in here like the Incredible Hulk leads me to believe these doors are indestructible even for you.” “You’re right, I wasn’t able to break through either one on the way here. But who knows,” he shrugged, positioning himself about a step away from his target, “could be that they’re only reinforced from one side.” “So you’re thinking it might work because it’s a— ” My sentence was cut off by a metallic bang! as Morgan karate-kicked the door straight off its hinges. And in half. “… ‘push’ door,” I finished.

They tilted their head slightly, “I don’t know how we’re any more lost than we were when we first met. Your suit’s also been keeping track of where we’ve been, right?” I gave a flat, “No.” “Oh. Does your HUD not have that feature?” “I don’t have a HUD, period.” Mentally, I groaned. Why did their space suit have all these fancy features when it looked like… well, that? Meanwhile, here I was, wearing the best humanity has to offer and coming up about as short as a toddler at a track meet. Freaking aliens, man.

Down

“So it’s not darkness but nothingness, then” “Seems like it,” they replied, then held down the launcher’s trigger. Apparently, that was supposed to do something, as they tried releasing and holding the trigger once more. When their third attempt likewise did nothing, they twisted a few things, pulled at some others, and detached the launcher from its shoulder mount. After giving it a look over, they delivered a couple of solid smacks near the base where the scout had initially been resting, then held the trigger again. “Is something wrong?” I asked. “Yeah, it’s not coming back,” they answered, giving the device a final shake for good measure. “Which is concerning given that I’ve recalled this thing from halfway across the solar system before.” “Oh, so it’s, like, gone gone.”

Flicking their mic’s switch back on, they told me in a flat tone, “My time loop ends with our entire solar system being destroyed by our star going supernova. I’ve been trying to fix it for a while now.” Then, quietly, as if admitting it would be a betrayal, “I’m not sure I can fix it.” “Jesus,” I breathed. “Mine’s just some stupid thing that I don’t even know what it is but it sure as hell isn’t our whole planet getting annihilated. Man, screw these stupid suits,” I said, already feeling around for whatever mechanism kept my helmet on. (That was the first step in taking this suit off, right? Removing the helmet?) “You need a bigger hug than this thing allows.”
