huh okay don’t quote me on any of this because I listened to this all over the course of a week and I’m sure I’ve confused a few details but I’m listening to a podcast about something actually quite horrible related to fandom-type interactions in the 2000s - 2010s and the host is talking about this cult survivor who was being interviewed by this women who is now a (bad) vox journalist but before being a journalist she apparently was this 'big name fan’ in all these fan spaces including homestuck and hp and had a ton of beef with like, cassandra clare? and I went ‘wait, a fandomy journalist who works for vox? could it be....no.’ but I googled it and there she is. aja fucking romano, the lady who wrote the cql vox article (the big one). what a world. I kind of want to google her later.
#cult m#I didn't read the article it looked kind of cringe#the cql one I mean. like. no thanks#idk what she did besides writing a horrible articles about this cult survivor and apparently glorifying her abuser#which is bad ebough ofc but it sounds like there's more#what did she DO#do any of use remember fan spaces 20 years ago? I certainly don't. being an elementary schooler and all#the idea of big name fans with actual influence is wild but honestly given how new the internet was I can definitely see it happening#the podcast is in a patreon but it's three episodes called the stone circle#and it goes into detail about this man and the various events relating to cults and abuse he was involved in using fandom spaces to#influence people usually in very manipulative and predatory ways#he was also on tumblr for a while but ig he got run off there are awareness blogs warning people about him#wild.#cor.txt
