Let's make one thing clear and that is that Kipperlilly Copperkettle would be a horrible teenager in every universe, but in her specific setting she was right. The universe does revolve around the Bad Kids, bc they are literally the protagonists. And she correctly identified a way to become important in that universe -- by becoming a villain. But Brennan did that totally by accident and therefore there's no engagement with that concept whatsoever

#this drives me up the wall. ive made my peace with the rest of it but this specific thing makes me crazy #idek why. i think that maybe i just dont like meta acknowledgement that a story is a story unless it's done REALLY well #so i just kind of hate this. like yes there are in-universe reasons that the bad kids are famous and successful #but kipperlilly brings up the question - why is it just them? they met by coincidence and then fell into the main plot #which is FINE bc it's fantasy! we accept that! but having an npc call attention to it makes that suspension of disbelief crumble
