kpop fandom is incredibly strange bc it views "stanning" a group as being more about the people in the group and not the music. which leads to an environment where it's totally normal to see people proclaiming themselves to be fans of a group that hasn't actually released music yet, and on the flip side of things, people in youtube comments of more established groups will regularly say that they aren't a fan of this group but they have listened to and loved literally every song by that group so they're thinking about "getting into them"

#sorry i know it's bad for me but i've been watching videos about kpop #kpop fandom is way separated from just like. any other fandom. bc it views being a fan as an active identity #you can't just listen to this groups music nono you have to stream it and vote for them and buy their albums! think of the idols!!!#which definitely ties into the way kpop fandoms are the only fandoms nowadays with actual names. remember whovians and shit? they're still #doing this in kpop. moreover. the companies themselves are releasing the fandom names. bc this unhealthy fan behavior is how they get money #they need people to treat stanning a group like a job bc that's how their groups win awards and get recognition and fame #add to that the fact that the market is incredibly oversaturated right now and. well. it's bad #stayc was the next big thing then aespa then billie then ive then le sserafim now newjeans. litrally insane how short the shelf life is
