It’s exhausting that a non-comic-book-fan-person, (and even a lot of actual-comic-book-fan-people) when asked who would win in a fight between Thor and Iron Man, will scoff and say, “Obviously Thor, he’s a god, Iron Man is just a smart rich guy with gadgets.” And then, when asked who would win between Batman and Wonder Woman, just as immediately, and with just as much unearned confidence, say that Batman would beat Wonder Woman in a fight, for no reason other than “He’s Batman.” Which when pressed becomes, “He’s like a martial arts master, and has a cool suit, and is like really smart and tactical and shit.”

I know they aren’t exact parallels. Not to comic book purists, and not to anyone who has firmly taken a side in the whole Marvel vs DC thing. But when you look at the details an average non-comic-book-fan-people could probably tell you just through exposure to popular culture? They’re pretty damn parallel.

Tony and Bruce: Both billionaires. Both extremely smart. Both 40+. Both spend extreme amounts of money to create tools and gadgets to help them fight. Both human.

Thor and Diana: Both heirs to ancient civilisations that are tied to but held separate from Earth. Both have hundreds (or thousands depending on you source material you hear people talk about) of years training as warriors. Both are old af and basically immortal. Both with lightning powers. Both have much higher strength, speed, and stamina compared to humans. Because both of them are gods.

And the most common defense in this parallel is supposed to be that Bruce has martial arts training that Tony doesn’t. As if the fact that Batman could beat Iron Man’s ass magically means Wonder Woman couldn’t beat his?

He has maybe 30 years of dedicated training. Which fuck yeah that is impressive, go Bruce. But lets be real. He’s completed maybe 2% to 25% of the time Diana has spent also training in various combat styles depending on which of her origins you go with. The fact that he has a few blackbelts isn’t some checkmate difference.

Anyways. It’s fucking exhausting I tell you.
