VERSE INFO - TLOU

NOTE: This is mostly based off of the TV series canon by default. I can adjust to the video game canon if needed, I'm just not as readily familiar with it as the TV version.

AGE: Between 22 - 42 years old

OCCUPATION: Soldier (Army Pre-Day Zero, Firefly Post-Outbreak); Freelance

SETTING: Plotting-Dependent

September 26th, 2003 — Also known as Outbreak Day, the catastrophic events that lead to the end of the world on the day the Cordyceps fungal mutation reaches critical mass. Caleb is a survivor who witnessed the beginning of the outbreak as it unfolded across the world and plunged everything into chaos.

Still a young US Army soldier in the days before the military branch was fully absorbed into the Federal Disaster Response Agency (aka FEDRA), Caleb and the rest of his team were ordered to execute a group of civilian refugees in transport to the nearest Quarantine Zone in Los Angeles. Caleb refuses to comply with this unconscionable policy change and is threatened by another soldier to follow orders, face a court martial, or be shot along with the refugees for obstruction of an assigned military mission. Ultimately, the other soldier loses the standoff and is shot by another teammate to defend Caleb and the refugees, giving all of them a chance to flee.

When Marlene founds the Fireflies a short time later, Caleb is somewhat easily radicalized and inspired by the movement's persistent messages of hope and methods of anarchistic rebellion against FEDRA. He joins the cause to continue doing what he knows best— to fight for survival and freedom.

“We are in a war against a military dictatorship to restore democracy and freedom. Does that sound about right?”

“Yes?”

“Are we winning? Are we beating FEDRA here? Are the Fireflies beating FEDRA anywhere?”

“You fight for 20 years and get nowhere, you're not a rebellion. Just spray paint.”

“Rebellion takes time.”

2023 — 20 years down the line, Caleb has grown disillusioned with the Fireflies in general and starts to lose hope that they will ever change anything. When Marlene rallies together every soldier in the Boston QZ to leave and head out West, he decides to make his exit from the faction and find something real in the world beyond just survival.

in a world full of pain and suffering, guts and gore - it's easy to lose your way, to get lost in the darkness. you're supposed to keep going, you're supposed to look for the light, but what if this time - the light finds its own way. in toji fushiguro's terms, the thing that'll keep him going turns out to be a curious little brat, who's trying to steal his belongings.

⤷ on a hunt for supplies, you stumble across someone's belongings. a little bit of theft is acceptable, right? the cold barrel of a gun at your temple says otherwise.

⤷ you find yourself in a tight spot after running into some hunters and are now seeking shelter in an old bombed hospital filled with just about every type of infected there is. thankfully, he's there too.

⤷ a slice of life. you sleep together, you eat together. maybe letting a little light in isn't too bad afterall?

I'm so excited for this and can't wait to work on it more. I hope to continue work on my fic, which will be under the same title on AO3, soon! Life's started to get a little hectic in my neck of the woods and has really slowed me down.

here's a little snippet of the toji zombie apocalypse au that i've been working on!!!!

the name is going to be "blinded by the light" and that is ofc inspired by the iconic tlou quote "when you're lost in the darkness, look for the light."

you inspect the inside of the bag: chocolate, cans of spaghetti on top of cans of spaghetti, surprisingly clean clothes, a small pocket knife and two bottles of water. your body has a mind of its own as it goes to grab the obvious - the bar of chocolate but a piece of glass cracks way too close behind you, your eyes flick over the now ajar door as you try to reach for the gun on your thigh— but when you feel the cold metal of a gun barrel resting against your temple... you freeze. "don't." ... it's an answer to your stupidity and curiosity in a form of a deep rasp; confident and sure of himself - the gun against your skin doesn't move, it doesn't shake. when you try to turn your head toward him, he just presses it more into you, forcing you to keep your eyes on the ground below you. from your peripheral vision, you can see that he's absolutely towering over you and you feel like an useless little ant that's about to be stepped on. your heart is pounding so loudly, making it the only thing you can hear. it thumps in your ears as if it's trying to distract you from the fact that it is trying to jump out from your chest and make an escape all on its own.

you really aren't the little lamb he thought you were. "don't let me see you again, old man." the moon shines on his face and you take a mental picture of him before throwing your bag over your other shoulder and stepping out.
