I thought all the weird fearmongering about bigger snakes was the "they'll swallow a human whole" variety what the fuck...

Was watching a horror movie earlier and a couple was supposed to be in a seedy motel room in middle America but they saw a Madagascar hissing cockroach run across the floor

#hm ok so i posted my confusion because i was thinking #'ok i'm an entomologist so i need to remind myself that laypeople can't always tell the difference between a cockroach and a beetle #when they see them but i've never specifically studied reptiles therefore i'm a layperson when it comes to snakes therefore #the stuff i think of as the most basic possible information is probably about as well known as it seems to me'#but that might have been unfair since literally the first pet i was ever around growing up was my mom's pet corn snake #and also i grew up loving snakes so it's not like i didn't seek out ANY information about them
