*takes a looooonnnggg drag from my candy cigarette* campiness is built into superhero's DNA. To deny anything colorful or absurd or over the top means stripping life and story possibilities from the genre. *bites the candy cigarette* while that's not to say that no superhero stories can be down to earth or dark but if gritty realism is the main goal and driving force of your story, perhaps sci-fi/fantasy/speculative fictions wackier younger cousin won't always be the ideal genre for you.

#like okay okay okay some of this is personal taste admittedly #BUT also realism is ... in some ways kind of antithetical to superheros that are like Superheros TM #theres definitely interesting gritty and realistic/cynical things you can do with super powers in general #but like. that's kind of a different genre imo.#when people complain about things being weird or silly in superhero stories I'm like dog u can watch other things #it's kind of like. okay there's nuance obviously but like when kids shows are meant to... appeal to kids??#not that that means they should be lazy and bad nonsense but like.#yeah man that show teaching you to read IS probably less compelling once you can read #yeah you probably DON'T like that superhero story about superheroes doing superhero stuff #there's other stories!
