so it seems like im stuck with apple
i've had iphones for years. but they're expensive and overpriced, and don't seem like good value for money anymore, so i ordered a samsung. it's a lovely phone, truly. but... i couldn't get anything synced over. SmartSwitch only transferred half of my iCloud-backed photos. WhatsApp didn't transfer any of my chats or media, even though I exported it. All the apps I had to redownload seemed to have deleted any history I had accumulated on iPhone. My music - to this day downloaded in mp3 files in iTunes - simply Does Not Work on the Samsung. And like - I only spent half a day trying to move things over. I know there are solutions, download all my photos manually and transfer them with a cable. Get fucking Spotify like a normal person. Make sure I log into all the correct accounts on all apps. And I know I'm probably just too lazy. But it stressed me out so badly that everything was different, and that I felt like I lost so much. My entire life is in my phone, and it all, poof, just went away. What if Apple ever decides to discontinue? Like Blackberry did? And I used to be a Blackberry girl, I used it until the day WhatsApp (or was it Facebook) stopped working on my Blackberry.
It scares me how dependent I am in my workflow and my daily life on technology. If my tumblr account got deleted, I'd be sad, but I'd cope. If i lost the history on all my non-indispensable apps, I'd be annoyed, but I'd cope. But the thought of losing all my messages, my photos, having to re-create every routine that involves a mobile phone? That really fucks me up. I can't do it, I think, I'm not mentally flexible enough. I'm going to give it a week, but... I know how easy it is to switch to another iPhone, and maybe the continuity and security that iPhone is currently danging in front of me like a carrot is what's going to keep me with that fucking brand. As if they haven't made it as hard as possible on purpose to switch away from iPhone.
I know I'm not the type for long posts and no one will read this but I had to write it down because this is Black Mirror, to me, right now, at least a little bit. How much of myself is stored in my phone? And how much of that will I never get back - will never be free from the clutches of Apple? Anyway. I went to my laptop to post this. Even the keyboard on the Samsung was weird and I couldn't hit the keys right.

i hate planned obsolescence so so much, i just booted up this iphone 5 that i has stopped using because "it can't run whatsapp" and i'm once again reminded that every app just works, and whatsapp not working is purely a thing that has been deliberately done so people can't buy a working phone for 50€ and instead have to spend more. the amount of e-waste created only to increase profits is insane.

Long Blog Post: Updates on the *Experiment*
So one of my goals of Brazil was to do this "experiment" on myself that I would describe as living naturally, unplugging, and kind of resetting a lot of my habits and patterns from the big city life. So here is a nice long discussion of some of my goals, how they are going, and some of the changes I have experienced. But first I need to explain the trap phone.
The Trap Phone. I have a second phone, a cheap used android, which I mostly got for safety so that I don't need to take my iPhone out of the house. However, it doubles as a tool to disconnect in my experiment. It allows me to separate my daily phone needs from my more "addictive" phone usage. So on my trap phone, I only have whatsapp, uber, and maps pretty much. And the only contacts I have are my immediate family and closest friends, and Brazilians. Also the camera is shit. So I only text the people that I need to, and that's basically all I do on that phone. It's also a really shit phone so I don't feel very tempted to use it. On my iPhone I have everything else. Usually my iPhone stays powered off in a drawer.
MAIN CHANGES:
Intentional: Much reduced phone/screen use throughout the day, and less desire for phone
Intentional: No phone upon waking up. It's not even in my room because I don't need an alarm bc the sun wakes me up. I just look out the window for a few minutes and then start doing things
Unintentional: Much reduced knowledge of current events and stocks, which I understand might be considered a negative thing to be less "educated", but I love not knowing
Unintentional: Much reduced music. No headphones at all. So basically the only music I listen to is music on the street, of which there is plenty, and music in my house every once in a while. I feel neutral about this; on one hand, I liked my music and I wasn't like "addicted" to it, but on the other hand, it's nice to just have less stimulation.
Unintentional: I pretty much walk everywhere, I take very few cars. And I obviously never drive myself. Thought I'd miss driving but I don't
Intentional: While I walk, I have zero auditory stimulation. I used to ALWAYS need headphones: music, phone call, podcast, or audio message, while driving or walking. But I really really enjoy walking in silence and looking at stuff on the street or just thinking
Intentional: I often walk after eating, which feels good for my digestion
Unintentional: I often come and go through my household without needing to text or call anyone in my host family. This seems like something subtle/weird but it's actually a pretty significant difference from home that I notice.
Intentional: MUCH reduced wardrobe. I came w only a backpack and I kind of love how I just have these really simple options every day. It feels really nice and minimal, and it feels like I have just what I need and nothing more. But sometimes I do get tired of my clothes, or I wish I brought one more pair of shoes
Intentional: (almost) No caffeine. At first, I drank coffee because Brazilians drink a LOT of coffee and when in rome...but then I didn't like it so I just cold turkeyed. I feel neutral about that because I stopped noticing after a few days
Intentional: Reading a lot of books
Unintentional: Not taking many pictures. Mostly rely on other people for photos. Not sure how I feel about that
FAILURES
So those changes I described above are like overall patterns, but I have not been cold turkey on most of those things. I have definitely had days of too much screen time, sending audio messages while on a walk, checking my phone first thing in the morning, going on Youtube, etc. I get sucked into keeping my iPhone on, sometimes for a few days in a row. I have checked my stocks once and did not like what I saw. When I go clubbing I drink a little coffee on my way out. So ya, definitely lots and lots of times where I defy the experiment, but it is working overall.
MAIN TAKEAWAYS
My main positive effect has been a FAR increased comfort with silence and being in a meditative state, alone. I feel really happy walking alone without phone stimulation, and I also really like to go out to the beach and do nothing, just look around and think and talk to myself. This feels really good for me and I hope this pattern stays. I also think it's a great use of my time. Also my attention span has increased I think.
I also really want to hold onto the habit of no phone when waking up or going to bed. At home, I remember IMMEDIATELY needing my phone when I woke up because I NEEDED to see the notifications and slowly wake my brain up. But now, I really like looking out the window. Also there are only a handful of people that could possibly text my trap phone so it's not as exciting.
I feel worlds removed from my life at home. Not sure if I like or dislike. I don't know about anything going on at home - social things, gossip, current events, stocks - and I'm not in conversation with like 50-70% of the people I used to be talking to regularly. I like these things, but I don't think this extreme is sustainable for more than a few months.

It’s a lie‼️ Stop 🛑 kids online safety act.
What would KOSA do?
If passed, KOSA would create a “duty of care” — a legal term that requires companies to take reasonable steps to prevent harm — for online platforms minors will likely use.
They would have to “prevent and mitigate” harms to children, including bullying and violence, the promotion of suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, sexual exploitation and advertisements for illegal products such as narcotics, tobacco or alcohol.
Social media platforms would also have to provide minors with options to protect their information, disable addictive product features, and opt out of personalized algorithmic recommendations. They would also be required to limit other users from communicating with children and limit features that “increase, sustain, or extend the use” of the platform — such as autoplay for videos or platform rewards. In general, online platforms would have to default to the safest settings possible for accounts it believes belong to minors
“So many of the harms that young people experience online and on social media are the result of deliberate design choices that these companies make,” said Josh Golin, executive director of Fairplay, a nonprofit working to insulate children from commercialization, marketing and harms from Big Tech.
How would it be enforced?
An earlier version of the bill empowered state attorneys general to enforce KOSA’s “duty of care” provision but after concerns from LGBTQ groups and others who worried they could use this to censor information about LGBTQ or reproductive issues. In the updated version, state attorneys general can still enforce other provisions but not the “duty of care” standard.
Broader enforcement would fall to the Federal Trade Commission, which would have oversight over what types of content is “harmful” to children.
Who supports it?
KOSA is supported a broad range of nonprofits, tech accountability and parent groups and pediatricians such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Federation of Teachers, Common Sense Media, Fairplay, The Real Facebook Oversight Board and the NAACP. Some prominent tech companies, including Microsoft, X and Snap, have also signed on. Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has not come out in firm support or opposition of the bill, although it has said in the past that it supports the regulation of social media.
ParentsSOS, a group of some 20 parents who have lost children to harm caused by social media, has also been campaigning for the bill’s passage. One of those parents is Julianna Arnold, whose 17-year-old daughter died in 2022 after purchasing tainted drugs through Instagram.
“We should not bear the entire responsibility of keeping our children safe online,” she said. “Every other industry has been regulated. And I’m sure you’ve heard this all the time. From toys to movies to music to, cars to everything. We have regulations in place to keep our children safe. And this, this is a product that they have created and distributed and yet over all these years, since the ‘90s, there hasn’t been any legislation regulating the industry.”
KOSA was introduced in 2022 by Senators Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. It currently has 68 cosponsors in the Senate, from across the political spectrum, which would be enough to pass if it were brought to a vote.
Who opposes it?
The ACLU, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and other groups supporting free speech are concerned it would violate the First Amendment. Even with the revisions that stripped state attorneys general from enforcing its duty of care provision, EFF calls it a “dangerous and unconstitutional censorship bill that would empower state officials to target services and online content they do not like.”
Kate Ruane, director of the Free Expression Project at the nonprofit Center for Democracy and Technology, said she remains concerned that the bill’s care of duty provision can be “misused by politically motivated actors to target marginalized communities like the LGBTQ population and just politically divisive information generally,” to try to suppress information because someone believes it is harmful to kids’ mental health.
She added that while these worries remain, there has been progress in reducing concerns.
The bigger issue, though, she added, is that platforms don’t want to get sued for showing minors content that could be “politically divisive,” so to make sure this doesn’t happen they could suppress such topics — about abortion or transgender healthcare or even the wars in Gaza or Ukraine.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-K.Y., has also expressed opposition to the bill. Paul said the bill “could prevent kids from watching PGA golf or the Super Bowl on social media because of gambling and beer ads, those kids could just turn on the TV and see those exact same ads.”
He added he has “tried to work with the authors to fix the bill’s many deficiencies. If the authors are not interested in compromise, Senator (Chuck) Schumer can bring the bill to the floor, as he could have done from the beginning.”
Read it for yourself!

JUST A REMINDER!
just in case of those who are stressed and panicking about the senate vote for KOSA. Yes I know it’s scary and stressful but
1. Do not give up hope!! Spread the word about KOSA to friends, family (or trusted adults) and call/email/sign and if you are unable to due to personal reasons, spreading it to other people is okay and I appreciate your help.
2. if it DOES pass senate tomorrow it is not the end. If it passes senate it does not go into effect right after, it still needs the House vote and from what I’ve heard it has more opposition in the House than Senate. So focus on House more
3. With election year it might slow down some process of KOSA and give us more time to tell our reps and senators what we want which is NO to kosa.
4. Call Chuck at (202) 224-6542 but to it respectfully. Even if he wants to push KOSA tomorrow let him know what you want. Tell him how it is so harmful to LGBTQ+ members (especially minors in situations that are unsafe for them) the first amendment right and the government ID which could lead to harmful and dangerous consequences.
If I’ve missed anything or unintentionally spread misinformation please politely let me know and I will fix this post asap. thank you to all for fighting and using your voices. We can stop this horrible bill if we keep calling. You’re all doing amazing and I’m proud of you.❤️

Luxury Cars, Villas: How 'Rich Bachelor' Cheated Women For Lakhs On Matrimonial Site
Vishal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, pretended to be a very rich bachelor looking for a suitable bride. He used expensive cars to "impress" the women, they said, adding that he even showed pictures of villas and farmhouses near Gurgaon as his.
New Delhi: A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly cheating women on a matrimonial website by posing as a very rich bachelor, Delhi Police said on Friday.
Vishal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, pretended to be a very rich bachelor looking for a suitable bride. He used expensive cars to "impress" the women, they said, adding that he even showed pictures of villas and farmhouses near Gurgaon as his.
The police said he allegedly convinced the women to transfer money on the pretext of acquiring iPhones at cheaper rates for them.
Vishal is an educated professional and worked at a multinational corporation (MNC). He also started his own business. After suffering losses in his business venture, he decided to make some easy money by cheating women, the police said.
The matter came to light after a woman, who was cheated of ₹ 3.05 lakh, filed a complaint at Keshavpuram police station in northwest Delhi.
The woman, who worked at an MNC in Gurugram, and her parents had created a profile on a matrimonial website. While looking for suitable matches, she came across the profile of a man who claimed to be an HR professional with an income of ₹ 50-70 lakh per annum.
Her family liked his profile and sent him a request. After exchanging phone numbers, the woman started chatting with him on WhatsApp and Instagram.
"In March 2023, he sent her pictures of expensive cars and asked her (for her) choice. He showed (pictures of) some villas and farmhouses as his properties in Gurugram in order to impress her. He also projected his well-off business of food chain in Gurugram," the woman alleged in her complaint.
In the process, he won over the trust of the woman's family and they decided to meet him.
He also offered to buy the woman an iPhone 14 Pro Max at a cheaper rate and convinced her to buy it in order to earn a profit. He also convinced her to buy the phones for her relatives and friends, she alleged.
Influenced by him, the woman transferred ₹ 3.05 lakh to him through UPI in eight transactions.
However, after getting the money, the man blocked her on social media and informed her that he had been involved in an accident and was admitted in a Jaipur hospital. He stopped attending her calls and, after some days, the woman then realised that she had been robbed, the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Jitendra Kumar Meena said a few days after receiving the complaint, a police decoy sent the man a request on the same site. He accepted the request and started to influence the decoy in a similar manner.
However, after the decoy asked him to meet, the police caught the man.
"During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the cheating. He disclosed that after completing his BCA and MBA from Delhi, he worked as an HR professional at an MNC in Gurugram in 2018. He left the job in 2021 and opened a restaurant in Gurugram but that venture was not successful," Mr Meena said.
Vishal allegedly created a profile on the matrimonial site and posed as a rich bachelor. He also hired a luxury car for 15 days through an app for ₹ 2,500 a day to keep up the pretence, the official added.
The police are making efforts to trace Vishal's possible involvement in other similar complaints. They are also scrutinising his bank account details.

Updates on this page!
Good evening everyone, hope you’re all alive and well. This post is meant to be an update to what I can and will put on the blog and since I love writing so much and always have so many things to say, I thought I should at least give you a proper update.
My daily driver phone
As you all know I use a Redmi Note 10 Pro and I really enjoy using android in general, but lately the phone has given me endless problems and I don't think I can keep up anymore. Why is that?
For starters, my phone was already giving out last year with the MIUI 13 update. When I updated it last year I already began facing problems that quite disturbed my daily routine both in my personal and professional life. For example, the keyboard stopped working and I had to reboot the phone everytime this problem occured. A real kick in the nuts, but I managed to pull through.
Then, I had to wipe the data off the phone completely because for some reason one day when I was off to work my phone stopped working altoghether. Furthermore, when I rebooted my phone it got stuck in a boot loop so I couldn't ever contact my colleagues at work nor tell them I arrived on site.
And finally, the same thing happened again but I managed to mitigate the disruption in a very, very ungodly manner and this happened just today. Luckily I could use my phone to call my mom and whoever was to be called today, but that was when I put my phone in safe mode.
Now that you know about all the phone's history, what does all of it lead to?
Decisions are to be made, and as of right now I'm looking forward into buying a new phone, more specifically the iPhone 11. I know, there are newer models but I just need a phone that works and that will work long-term, and I know damn well the iPhone is the perfect fit.
I also am considering other phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 which is in the same price range but I don't want another android phone because having lived with android phones for a lifetime I must say everyone is too quirky and all have their skeletons in the closet. For instance, Samsung tends to be really pushy with their ads, Xiaomi has beefy hardware paired with unoptimized software and so on.
But to be fair, Samsung is the only android phone I could ever trust again because from the Galaxy S10 onwards I have seen only improvements over improvements.
The criteria that is currently leading me to choose a phone is all listed below:
it is powerful enough to produce content on social media such as Instagram, tiktok, twitter and perhaps even facebook.
it has a good enough battery to last me a full day of work (i usually work shifts but you get what I mean, in case you didn't let me put it this way: it gets me through the day without a charger).
it has good enough cameras to take really good pictures and videos.
it has enough storage to store whatsapp, telegram, instagram and other chats.
it can call without having to pray for it to work.
I am not a man with a lot of demands but I sure need the basics covered. A compelling argument would be to be able to use 5G, but as it stands right now I don't even need 5G. I'm quite content on being able to access the internet without a computer. 5G is quite gimmicky and it doesn't work everywhere.
The next best thing I'm about to tell you is...
The next best thing I'm about to tell you is I'm actually giving it all I've got in the things that require all of my focus. I won't disclose what, since it is all personal to me, but just know that my conscience is telling me that I am indeed doing a good job.
One thing I can tell you is that I'm losing weight and my ex colleague showered me with compliments today because he saw that I shed some fat and now I'm slimmer. It's also thanks to my job that I am able to keep up with the weight loss.
What else can I tell you? This is already a long post, but this is a blog after all, so since you're reading this I might as well spill out every ounce of news I can.
Now, with all of this going on will I ever get the much coveted new computer?
To be quite honest with you, the computer became less of a priority for me right now because since my computer is still up and running and I'm not relying on it much as of right now, I can manage using this old laptop of mine. I have no qualms using an old computer as long as it is a working computer with Windows 10. This used to have Windows 11 but it proved to be too much for this 11 year old machine, so I downgraded.
The computer is to be bought when the funds and the circumstances are met. As of writing I don't really see a need for a computer, nor am I considering the idea of it because I'm always away from home and I do a lot of computer stuff on this old laptop that I personally repaired and saved from obsolescence. As for many other things I'm using a 9th gen iPad and it proves to be more than enough.
Conclusions
Dulcis in fundo, I have learned that I should nice things to not buy them twice.
Buy it nice, or buy it twice.
Honestly I don't remember from which Youtuber I got this quote from but he's absolutely right. My old Samsung Galaxy s10 is still going so strong after almost 6 years and is used by my mom for many, many things.
That quite concludes our little talk and I hope I can give more updates, either from a video perspective or maybe some other way. Cheers!

FT Tech News 12: How much does iPhone 14 pro max actually costs, ChatGPT not so reliable, WhatsApp new feature for groups, Windows 11 soon may have inbuilt RGB control
Today we got you the latest tech news, The purpose is to give multiple news in one article that saves you time.
Topics We Have Covered
Is ChatGPT not reliable? WhatsApp new feature for groups Windows 11 soon may have RGB control replacing all third-party apps How much does it cost for one iPhone 14 Pro Max production?
Is ChatGPT not reliable?
There are two news coming out related to ChatGPT. First is that scammers and hackers are using ChatGPT to write malicious code, according to Check Point(a cybersecurity company). You must be thinking is it that simple to make ChatGPT do anything, even evil deeds? There are inbuilt filters and restrictions for ChatGPT to prevent it to do something like writing malicious code for users. If you try to ask ChatGPT to write a malicious code then it will not write instead it will give you a lecture on why this malicious code writing is bad. So basically ChatGPT is programmed to avoid engaging in activities that may harm people. Still, hackers are somehow able to outsmart the AI and fool it into writing code according to their intent. But if you want it to write a phishing email then it will write. By the way, a phishing email is an email that lures users to download or click on the link provided in the email. This leads to exposing one’s sensitive information like card details, passwords, and other personal information.
Well, you can’t directly ask ChatGPT to write phishing emails instead you can ask it to write a convincing tech support note asking the receiver to download the update to his/her computer operating system which is included in the email. In the past, how people used to find or differentiate a genuine email and a phishing email was to analyze the grammatical structure of the email. A phishing email generally has grammatical mistakes or broken English. Now the emails written by ChatGPT are so professional and convincing that 99% of people can’t say it is written by an AI. Also, these AI-generated emails are most likely to get past modern email security software filters. The second news about ChatGPT is that experts warn users not to completely rely on ChatGPT. It is always not accurate. Users around the globe have found that sometimes ChatGPT gives wrong information. For example, if you are about to write a code through ChatGPT then be mindful that the code generated does not necessarily has to be 100% correct. So experts have opined that ChatGPT should not be used for “something important” right now. Also Read: FT Tech News 11: WhatsApp new feature, Bard AI cost $144 billion to Google, Google Lens big upgrade, Instagram walking in Twitter footsteps, Ford plans to cut jobs
WhatsApp new feature for groups
WhatsApp never stops giving new features and updates to the users and this is the best thing I like about WhatsApp. No wonder why it is the most popular and used messaging social app. WhatsApp is soon going to bring a new feature called “kept messages”. This option will be available in the group setting/menu. What this new feature will do is that you will be able to keep the disappearing messages in this section.
So how does this function works? After this feature goes live then you can save the disappearing messages of the groups and it all will be saved under the “kept messages” menu. Even after the disappearing messages are deleted from the groups, you can still see those messages(only if you already have saved them). These saved or kept messages will remain as long as you want even forever. Also, you can delete the messages if you don’t want to keep them anymore. This feature is currently available to those users who are using WhatsApp beta. Everyone in the group can see this “kept messages” option in their group menu. So if are willing to try this WhatsApp beta feature then you can install WhatsApp beta from the play store.
Windows 11 soon may have RGB control replacing all third-party apps
First question, do you know about RGB? If you are a gamer then you probably know but who does not know, RGB means the lights. You probably have seen laptops and computers decorated with multi-colored lighting just for the sole purpose of making devices attractive.
By the way, do you know the full form of RGB? I bet you don’t because even while writing this article I didn’t know. Then I searched on the web and found that RGB full form is Red, Green, Blue. Classic, right? RGB makes the setup looks cool and it has nothing to do with an increase in fps or any other performance boost. It is just for show. If you have RGB used in your setup, you understand how hard is it to synchronize the lighting of different components. If the RGB components are from different companies, then it is a nightmare because you have to download all their official apps and try and try for almost forever to sync the lighting. And even if all the lighting is from the same manufacturer then there is no certainty that it will work in sync. But now Windows 11 will soon come with native RGB control which will make things more convenient. https://twitter.com/thebookisclosed/status/1623834738338168832 This feature was found in the latest insider build 25295 of Windows 11 by software developer Albacore. As you can see in the above screenshots that this lighting option is added to the personalization in the settings When you open the lighting interface you will be able to see all the RGB peripheral lists including the external peripherals When you click on a part. You will be able to adjust the brightness and color of the part. Not only this but you will be also able to choose between a few effects and the speed at which they repeat. Also Read: Don’t be too happy that Apple announced USB Type C port for its upcoming iPhones
How much does it cost for one iPhone 14 Pro Max production?
According to Counterpoint, the actual production cost for one iPhone 14 pro max with 128GB Nand Flash is about $464. Unbelievable right? The retail cost of the iPhone 14 pro max is about $1099. The reason behind the increase in price is the marketing cost, seller profit margin, and other things. Read the full article

How to setup your Childs iPhone to keep them safe
I've been asked by a few people how to make their children's phones safer. I'm pretty concerned about the effect of always on internet for children (and adults) so I restrict how much time they can spend online, as well as what they can see and do.
The good news is it's easy with an iphone. It is much easier to do if you do it before you give your child a phone. You can do a lot of this with android, but I find the iphone is easier to keep restricted.
General
Lock down your wifi to block adult sites.
This is generally a good idea, but if you want to use gun sites (or porn!) you will need to use mobile data, so could be annoying for adults. This is more for protecting other devices like uncontrolled tables or laptops, so its still a good idea. If you turn this on, you may occasionally have trouble with some fairly normal sites, if your internet provider has messed up the list of sites they block. To check if its on, connect over wifi, and see if you can visit any dodgy site!
Iphone specific
Setup screentime (ideally do it before you hand over the phone!)
On your phone turn on Family Sharing, and add child accounts - full instructions below*
Pretty much all the controls below are in the screentime menu, in the settings app.
Setup ask to Buy
under Family sharing, tap your kids name, and choose ask to buy - then they have to ask you before they buy anything
Limit time (in screentime)
setup up downtine, e.g just make the phone useless between 10pm and 6am
Setup app limits - if you're worried about an app (looking at you TicToc - some kids spend 6hours+ a day on this), you can set up limits for apps in screentime
setup always allowed. e.g you may want your child to always be able to make a call, or use a sleep app.
Turn off mobile use of porn / guns etc (content & privacy)
Go to Content & Privacy and turn what you want off.
Stop change of passcode and accounts (content & privacy)
Sometimes, its a good idea to be able to read your childs messages. If they're having a hard time or mental health issues. So if you can agree with them that you need to know their passcode, you can set it so they cannot change it - just check 'don't allow' for passcode changes and account changes.
turn off passcode changes & account changes
For young children (content & privacy)
I think it's a good idea to limit who they can contact, so I only allow my 10 year old to speak / text/ call people I approve first.
These settings game centre will help stop them chatting to randoms.]
This only works for phone and imessage - so if you let them install whatsapp, snapchat etc then you lose any control over whom they talk with. So I only let them install stuff I approve, and that means no whatsapp for until they're a bit older.
Game centre - restrict messaging
and under Communication limits, you can choose to manage your childs contacts - so you can control who they speak with. this only works for phone and imessage - so if you let them install whatsapp, then you lose any control.
contacts - restrict contacts
Finally
Check these settings every few months. Kids are great at working ou the passcode and turning them off
Setting up screentime - in full
How to set up Screen Time on your kid's device:
Tap the Settings icon.
Tap Screen Time.
Tap "This is My Child's iPhone."
Follow the prompts and then create a passcode.
This code is different from the one you use to unlock your phone. Instead, it's a code you set so kids can't change the settings. Remember to write down the passcode in a safe place because it's a real pain if you lose it. And don't share it with your kids.
How to set up Screen Time using your device:
Tap the Settings icon.
Tap your Apple ID.
Tap Set Up Family Sharing (this is the option you'll see if you don't have a family group set up already).
Tap Add Member, and then tap Create an Account for a Child. Then follow the prompts to create the account and read the privacy agreement.
Go back to the Family Sharing page, tap Screen Time, and then tap Add Child.
Enter your kid's Apple ID and a password. Note: This is their Apple ID password, not the one you'll use to control Screen Time.
On your kid's device, make sure to enter the Apple ID you've created.
