The point the Cairngorm's/Welegato's arc did end up making regarding Pho's overall journey until the end - not sure if intentionally or not:

Who are you when the people you relied on to like you and to care for you and to treat you a certain way no longer do that? When they change? When the people you like change and change their manner of seeing you and relegate you to a smaller place in their lives, then who are you?

Aren't you not - much like Phos - holding a part of yourself in your friend's hands?

When Cairngorm changed, Phos lost their north. Not immediately. But they lost completely where they were headed since their connection with Cairngorm was something they relied on, much like the ground they used to stand, they took it for granted several times. That was not, by the way, the fact Cairgorn's changed a lot of her personality but she lost interest in her affection and connection with Phos. She was no longer fiercely invested in that, as she used to. That had devastating consequences on Pho's psyche.

It had devastating consequences on the way the fandom felt, too. Looking back, it's easy to see people felt somehow betrayed, which is the flinch reaction to when someone you care about changes to the point they're unrecognizable, meaning they weren't who you relied on them to be, and that might never have been them all along. But also, they felt like Cairngorm betrayed her connection with Phos, and I guess that's where it gets murky and complicated. If you asked Welegato that connection was never hers, to begin with.

Which is of her right but isn't also a profoundly cruel thing to say?

Reversed Ghost AU

Cairn's head is visible in the sunlight when everything else about Ghost is see through

Ghost goes to the moon with Phos and Aechmea tries to coax Cairn through Ghost with the promise of freeing Cairn's head from the confines of Ghost, and Cairn's inclusions respond to that (despite Cairn not actually being 'there')

Ghost is a lot more... creepy and ghost-like, they often repeat certain phrases and sentiments that Cairn once said themself

That being said their voice is dual-toned, with their main voice deeper and if you listen closely, theres an echo to them that sounds a lot like Cairn's voice

In this AU, Ghost is transmasc

Ghost is still self-sacrificial, but is very protective of their arm that still has Cairn's arm

True Cairn AU

She loses her arm and is still insecure about it, but is more vocal about the problems it causes

Cairn still travels to the moon with Phos, on their on volition now

She still gets into moon fashion

Very dismissive of whatever the fuck Aechmea has going on, but she tags along with his shenanigans because she's bored and curious

She never officially gets with Phos, they moreso have a vague situationship

During the 10k years she wears a pendant with a drawing of Phos that Ghost drew for her (she never truly got over Phos)

She does in fact marry Aechmea but she also performs Lunarian's first Divorce:tm:

She still becomes besties with Shinsha and Antarc, and reminisces about Phos with them

Transed herself from SEXLESS ROCK to CUTEGIRL FASHIONISTA MODEL. Marries the king of the moon and bosses him around and gaslights him into teaching her science, which she picks up on instantly. Extremely smart, a fantastic fighter, and kind of cunty.

Garnet:

She's a mom. She sings. She's married to herself. She can see the future. She's voiced by Estelle. She's even gay.

Do I despise Welegato? Yes 100% she's an asshole just like her husband.

Do I get why her character went the direction it did once the rest of Ghost was removed from her? Also yes 100% and I think she's an even more interesting character because of it. (As is Ghost tbh, I wish we got to see more of them before they were taken.)

Did I still groan or make a disdainful expression every time she and/or Aechmae showed up? Very much so I hate them both so much

Some thoughts on houseki no kuni: mainly focused on Welegato/Cairngorm- Enma's toxic relationship and theories on what will happen to Phos

So to start off, I've been checking in on HNKs page here and some of yall really like to argue and threaten others over fiction characters, like please stop and act civil these characters AREN'T REAL. it is not okay to threaten or insult others based on their opinion on fiction.

Okay, now to the story. As someone who has been in an abusive relationship, I see the same resemblance in Welegato's relationship with Enma. Enma acted like a "savior" to Welegato. and to all who say, "He wasn't manipulating Cairn" fail to notice the panels in which he states that he got Cairn away from phos on purpose to make phos a divine being to pray.

It is vague, but it is enough to realize Enma tricked Welegato and all the other gems to stay away from Phos. If you look at other parts of the story, you can see how Enma pushes himself onto Cairn, using their innocence and naivety to his advantage. Cairn/Welegato became a glorified trophy wife. In all honesty, I pity them more than I hate them because they never realized what was going on. They complied to whatever Enma said and wanted because they thought he truly loved them. For example, the scene in which he says Ghost is controlling him through Cairn's eyes. This made Cairn have a full-blown panic attack and shatter. What did Enma do to help them calm down? Nothing, he stood there, putting his plan into action. He did this because when He took out the quartz from Cairns eye, he knew Cairn would see him as someone who saved him from his long gone outer shell. Now to Ghost Quartz, in my opinion, was never abusive towards Cairn. they did the things they saw that were needed to stay in control of their body. Ghost may not have cared about Cairn inside them because they saw them as someone who got in the way of their life. Cairn was very violent, numerous times, we've seen them punch and break Phos out of anger. Even on the moon, they become cruel towards Phos and insult them numerous times. Enma just made Cairn/Welegato more spoiled and violent. That's the main issue. Bad relationships are hard to recognize until you see for yourself what you've become. In this case, Welegato never got to see how bad this was and stayed that way until they turned into nothingness. I'm very sad at this fact because Welegato had so much potential as a character. They have a good back story about identity and becoming something great, but it was washed down to a babied brat who turned their back on someone who needed them most. I think Welegatos' story is a story where the happy ending was never actually happy. They never got to realize who they could actually become, instead becoming controlled by another person.

With all that said and done let's move on to the next topic: Phos

Phos has said in the latest chapter (102, ps. spoilers ahead!!!) that they wish to eradicate their own existence. This can go either of two most likely ways. Phos fails to do this and learns to live with the human inside their inclusions or successes and goes into nothingness. There is a third was this can go, where all the lunarians are brought back or he finds out nothingness is an afterlife where all the others are. (knowing Ichikawa, this will NEVER happen :/). My next question is, how will this happen? Will Adamants brother be able to help Phos or will it not work? Until the next chapter we can only theorize.

I'm Selenite! I've been a crystal collector for years now, which was the main push behind getting obsessed with HNK lol. Selenite is my favorite crystal of all time, so it felt only fitting to use it for my self-insert!

Additionally, I totally ship Selenite with Cairngorm/Welegato. Having the juxtaposition between all-white Selenite and dark-"skinned" Moon Cairn is just really fun :) I haven't drawn Sel without his powder yet, but I think it would be really cool if he stopped wearing it on the moon to match with Cairn.
