What to Expect from Lake Tahoe Wedding Packages: A Complete Guide
Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful and sought-after wedding destinations in the world. With its stunning lake views, breathtaking mountains, and year-round appeal, it's no wonder couples flock to this picturesque location to celebrate their love. If you're thinking about tying the knot in Lake Tahoe, understanding what to expect from Lake Tahoe wedding packages is key to ensuring your big day goes off without a hitch.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Lake Tahoe wedding packages, from what’s typically included to how you can customize your package to fit your needs.
1. Types of Lake Tahoe Wedding Packages
Lake Tahoe offers a wide range of wedding packages to suit every style and budget. Whether you're planning an intimate ceremony or a grand celebration, there’s something for everyone.
Intimate & Elopement Packages
For couples who want a small, intimate wedding or prefer to elope, many venues offer Lake Tahoe wedding packages designed for just the two of you or a handful of close friends and family. These packages are often all-inclusive, covering the ceremony, officiant, flowers, photographer, and even a small cake. It’s the perfect option for couples looking for a stress-free, romantic experience.
Beach & Outdoor Wedding Packages
Lake Tahoe’s gorgeous beaches and parks provide the perfect setting for an outdoor ceremony. Many Lake Tahoe wedding packages cater to couples wanting a lakeside wedding, with packages that include everything from the setup of chairs and an altar to photography services and a reception nearby. Depending on the venue, you may even be able to enjoy a sunset ceremony with the lake reflecting the sky’s colors.
Luxury Resort Packages
If you envision a more luxurious wedding experience, many Lake Tahoe resorts offer all-inclusive wedding packages. These typically include a grand ceremony and reception venue, catering, floral arrangements, entertainment, and even a wedding planner to guide you through the entire process. Resorts also offer stunning views, spacious ballrooms, and elegant settings for your reception. This type of package is perfect for couples who want a more traditional and upscale celebration.
Adventure & Destination Wedding Packages
For adventurous couples, Lake Tahoe offers a variety of unique wedding options, such as mountaintop ceremonies, boat weddings, or even weddings at a private cabin. These Lake Tahoe wedding packages provide an unforgettable experience, ideal for those looking to do something extraordinary on their big day. Many adventure-based wedding packages include officiants, photography, and transportation.
2. What’s Typically Included in Lake Tahoe Wedding Packages?
The beauty of Lake Tahoe wedding packages is that they often come with everything you need for your ceremony, reception, and sometimes even your honeymoon. While the specific details can vary by venue and package type, most packages include the following:
Venue Rental: Whether it’s a beach, mountain overlook, or a resort ballroom, your venue rental is often the central part of your package.
Officiant Services: A licensed officiant is included in most packages, and they’ll help guide you through your ceremony, ensuring it’s meaningful and legally binding.
Photography and Videography: Most wedding packages include a professional photographer to capture your big day. Some even offer videography services, allowing you to relive your ceremony and reception for years to come.
Floral Arrangements: Flowers are an essential part of any wedding, and Lake Tahoe wedding packages typically include a bouquet for the bride, boutonnières for the groom and groomsmen, and floral decorations for the ceremony or reception site.
Cake and Catering: Whether you’re having a small, intimate gathering or a grand reception, catering services are often included. This can range from a simple wedding cake to a full meal with appetizers, main courses, and desserts.
Transportation: Some packages include transportation to and from the venue, especially for couples opting for a mountaintop or remote wedding location.
Music & Entertainment: Music is a crucial part of any celebration. Depending on your package, you might have a DJ, live band, or pre-selected playlist for your ceremony and reception.
Wedding Planning & Coordination: Many wedding packages, especially all-inclusive ones, come with the help of a professional wedding planner or coordinator. They’ll assist you with timelines, vendor coordination, and day-of details, so you can enjoy a stress-free wedding.
3. Customization Options in Lake Tahoe Wedding Packages
While many Lake Tahoe wedding packages come with standard offerings, one of the benefits of working with a wedding planner or venue is the ability to customize your package to fit your needs.
Décor and Styling: From choosing the flowers to the colors of the linens, you can personalize the aesthetic of your wedding. Whether you want a rustic, boho, or formal theme, the options are endless.
Additional Services: If you have specific needs or desires for your wedding, many planners and venues offer add-ons like a photo booth, videographer, extra floral arrangements, or upgraded catering options. You may also choose to have a destination wedding experience, where guests can enjoy extra activities like hiking, spa visits, or boat tours around Lake Tahoe.
Reception Options: While some couples prefer a traditional sit-down dinner, others opt for a more casual reception with food stations or a buffet. You can often customize the menu to reflect your tastes, whether you prefer local cuisine, seafood, or vegetarian dishes.
4. Budgeting for Your Lake Tahoe Wedding Package
The cost of a Lake Tahoe wedding package can vary greatly depending on the time of year, the size of your guest list, and the level of luxury you want. For example, off-season weddings (typically winter or early spring) tend to be less expensive, while summer and fall weddings, which are the busiest times in Lake Tahoe, may come at a premium.
When planning your budget, be sure to ask the venue or planner about what’s included in the package and if there are any extra fees or costs you should be aware of. Additionally, if you’re working with a Lake Tahoe wedding planner, they can help you prioritize what’s most important to you and ensure that your wedding stays within budget.
5. Why Choose Lake Tahoe Wedding Packages?
Lake Tahoe is a unique and stunning wedding destination, and a Lake Tahoe wedding package simplifies the process of planning your dream wedding in this breathtaking location. With an array of customizable options, expert vendors, and picturesque settings, these packages take the stress out of planning, leaving you to enjoy your big day. Whether you’re dreaming of a small, intimate ceremony or a grand affair, there’s a wedding package in Lake Tahoe that can bring your vision to life.
Conclusion
Choosing the right Lake Tahoe wedding package can make your wedding day an unforgettable experience. From intimate elopements to grand resort celebrations, the options are endless. By selecting a package that aligns with your vision and working with experienced professionals, you can create a wedding day that’s perfect in every way. "What's the most romantic thing you've ever done?" Matt asked, taking his eyes off the open black notebook in front of him and focusing them on Chris, his hands playing with the green highlighter.
Chris let out a breathy laugh, looking beyond the camera, his blue eyes meeting Y/N's, who smiled, raising her eyebrows, awaiting her boyfriend's response.
"I think there are two most romantic things I've ever done, both obviously with Y/N, since she's the only girlfriend I've ever had. I know you only asked for one, but I can think of two with different spheres." Chris began, looking at Matt momentarily, who nodded.
"Hurry up Chris." Nick ordered with a smile on his face as he took Matt's notebook, already anticipating his brother's response. Being Y/N's best friend, he had inside information.
"The first was last year, when Y/N and I completed three years of dating and I gifted her a trip for both of us to Italy." Chris smiled big, his eyes shining as he counted while Nick and Matt looked at him with matching smiles, happy for their brother's happiness. "She always dreamed of visiting Italy, it being her favorite place in the world, and when the three years together came I thought this was the ideal way to celebrate. I really wanted to see her happy and achieving her dream."
"I remember that, it was the longest the three of us were apart from each other because you were there for seven days." Matt commented, nodding his head.
"Yes, I remember Chris planning the entire trip. We went to that travel agency with him and helped him choose the perfect package with the best hotel and best tours. It was like a honeymoon without a wedding." Nick continued Matt's reasoning.
"I was so nervous when I went to give her the envelope with the plane tickets, I don't know why, but I thought everything was going to go wrong." Chris said, rolling his eyes when Nick and Matt started laughing, commenting that they remembered all the times he asked if it was good enough or if they thought Y/N would like it.
The girl smiled big behind the camera, her eyes lit up with happiness as memories of the trip flashed through her mind.
"So I think that's one of the most romantic things I've done for her, and the other one I didn't even realize was that romantic until Y/N pointed it out to me." Chris began, gesturing with his hands, organizing the mess of tacos in front of him. "She has a horrible habit of tying only one bow on her sneaker, which makes the shoelaces come untied more easily. Whenever we're walking together, I'm the one who notices the untied sneaker first, so I always stop her, kneel down in just one knee, take her foot with the untied sneaker and place it on top of my other knee, and tie the shoelace for her-"
Chris stopped in his speech when he saw Nick and Matt making exaggerated expressions of surprise and "dying in love", laughing together, making him roll his eyes and look at his girlfriend in disbelief, who laughed quietly, sending him a wink, causing a blush to grow on his cheeks.
"May I continue?" The middle brother asked loudly, looking at Nick and Matt with a bored expression.
"Sorry." The two said in unison, wiping their eyes from the tears from their exaggerated laughter.
"And also when Y/N wears high heels on certain occasions, whenever we go out of the house together I don't let her buckle her heels, I kneel down on one knee and buckle them for her. This is kind of an act of service but that she finds super romantic, and I realized that it really is when I saw that no couple around us do it. There are many more romantic things that I have done for her, but if I were to say everything the video would last more than an hour. " Chris finished, smiling broadly and holding up a tumb to the camera, blowing an air kiss to his girlfriend, who pretended to take it with one hand and put it in her pocket.
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
"Okay, next question, how long have you gone without showering?" Nick asked, glancing briefly at the question in the notebook before closing it with the highlighter in the middle, focusing his attention on Chris.
"Since almost four years ago I've been showering every day, Y/N rules!" Chris began, raising his arms in surrender. Nick let out a laugh as he looked at Y/N and saw her nodding quickly with her arms crossed.
Matt quickly looked at the girl when he saw Nick looking at her, laughing at her expression.
"Before I met my beautiful, perfect girlfriend, it was a weekend." Chris said, laughing as he mentioned his girlfriend in a joking tone.
"No, it was more than that. I know how long it was, let me answer." Matt jumped in, taking a sip of his soda when Nick told him to shut up, the sound of a low chuckle echoing faintly through the kitchen as Y/N tried to stop herself from laughing, watching the brothers bickering.
"I've already gone without showering from a Friday night until a Monday morning." Chris concluded, Nick muttering that he had already done the same. "Like, four days." He added.
"That example is less than four days, Chris." Nick commented while laughing, Matt following him.
"I'm a changed man, I don't do those things anymore." Chris said, crossing his arms and lifting his chin with a snobbish expression, increasing Nick and Matt's laughter.
"You men are so disgusting." Y/N whispered only for the three to hear, rolling her eyes.
Matt looked at her with an offended expression.
"Yeah guys, if I go a day without showering I'll sleep on the couch." Chris said looking at the camera as he opened the package of the next taco, putting an end to that discussion.
Nick passed the notebook back to Matt, starting the timer again so that Chris could go back to eating while Matt searched for the perfect question.
"The time is over!" The redhead announced, looking briefly at his phone screen while Matt closed the notebook, already with his question in mind.
"Okay, give me the inside scoop of the perfect Chris Sturniolo date night looks like?"
"What is this, Y/N who created my questions?" Chris asked after finishing chewing, letting out a laugh through his nose, his blue eyes looking briefly at his girlfriend only to see her with her arms raised in surrender as if she didn't know anything.
"Just answer the question Chris." Nick pressed, turning to face him.
"Can I give an example of a date I had with Y/N and we always do it again because it was really good for us?" Chris asked, arranging the napkin on the table as he glanced briefly at his brothers, who nodded. "Okay, I guess first I have to establish here that for me, when it's a date, it's literally a whole date day. On my first date with Y/N, I picked her up with an Uber in the morning with a bouquet of flowers since I don't know how to drive and I didn't want to bother Matt, and we had brunch at a cafe attached to a bookstore, because when we were getting to know each other she said that she really liked reading books and drinking coffee. Boys, understand one fundamental thing, listen to everything your girl likes and has to say, it will help you a lot and contribute to your relationship." The boy said, pointing to the camera as he said the last part.
Y/N felt her body heat up with shyness and love as she remembered that day, holding herself back from going to Chris to hug him tightly and shower his face with kisses.
"Afterwards we went for a walk around the city while we talked and I took her to a place where they only have those teddy bear catching machines, you know?" He looked at his brothers receiving nods. "And we stayed there for a while, where I got her a teddy bear, she still sleeps with it to this day."
Chris informed the last part in a whisper as if it was a secret, ignoring his girlfriend who rolled her eyes exaggeratedly.
"Afterwards, as we were still satisfied from brunch, I took her to an amusement park close to where we were and we stayed there for hours, we even had dinner there at one of the hot dog stands, I remember I bought her some cotton candy later and I will never forget her happiness because of it." He counted with shining eyes, rolling his eyes at his brothers who made gestures of vomiting. "And finally, I took her to a park that had a lake with ducklings and we walked around there and fed them for a few hours, that's where we also had our first kiss." Nick and Matt made air-kissing gestures, making fun of Chris, who pushed their faces with his hands. "That was my perfect date."
The boy finished, smiling big and taking the taco in his hand, ready to finish eating and start to ask Nick questions.
"You two are so disgusting." Matt said in a joking tone, passing the notebook to Nick, knowing that Chris would sit there.
Y/N smiled behind the camera, her cheeks already hurting from how much she was doing it, her heart warming up while hearing Chris talk about them with so much love, feeling like she could fall in love with him all over again.
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
extra - comments:
"omg Chris seems like a really great boyfriend!!"

Dear Jake,
You probably haven’t even reached the aircraft carrier yet. You might even still be on the ground in Miramar. But I couldn’t wait. I miss you. You’ve been gone for less than five hours, and I already miss you so much. I'm not saying that to try and make you feel bad, but because it's the only thing on my mind now.
Everyone offered to take me out today to try and distract me, but I declined. I think that I just want some time to myself. I honestly don't even want to get out of bed. Maybe I’ll do some cleaning. Or who knows? Maybe I’m an accomplished knitter who hasn’t discovered her talent yet. Or maybe I’ll bake again. I don’t know.
Also, all of the tee shirts you left behind are now mine. Sorry, it’s just wife rules. You shouldn’t have married me and knocked me up if you didn’t want me to steal your stuff.
I miss you. I love you. And so does our little girl. Come home safe, Lieutenant Commander. That’s an order.
Love,
Your Wife
~~~~~
Dear Jake,
I went back to work today. Everyone tried to talk to me about you and the wedding and everything, but I just wanted to be left alone. Also, my cravings are all over the place now. And half of the stuff seems to make me throw up these days. Luckily, I still have the gum and toothbrush in my desk.
How’s everything? I assumed that you made it to the carrier by now. Or maybe you’re somewhere else entirely.
You know all of those spy movies over romanticize how sexy it is to be waiting at home for your husband to return home from some top secret mission.
It’s not sexy. It’s just annoying.
Here’s a photo of me and my bump. Don’t mind the mess in the background, I’m rearranging the whole apartment. Call it nervous organizing. It'll be cleaned up. Eventually.
She’s been a shy ever since you left. I can still feel her moving around, but even she seems to have realized that you're gone. I think that she just misses you. And I can’t blame her because I miss you too.
I love you, Jake. Come home safely.
Love,
Your Wife
~~~~~
Dear Jake,
I got the package that you bought for me. I hope that you know that if you were here, I would have given you a rerun of that time that we went to that desert concert. The one where you wouldn't remove your hands from my waist for a second. I hope that your big promotion doesn’t change how much you enjoyed it when I tied your hands up back in your truck.
Our daughter’s been moving around like crazy today ever since I played your voice for her. She doesn’t seem to be willing to kick yet, but we’ll get there in time.
I let Emma take me out today. We just took a walk around her neighborhood. Baby girl finally went to bed after that. But knowing her, she’ll wake up just in time for me to go to bed.
Here’s our photo from today. Emma took it. I can’t believe I’m going to get even bigger. You owe me a deep tissue massage on my back when you get home. And I’ll hold you to it.
We love you and miss you, Jake.
Love,
Your Wife
~~~~~
Dear Jake,
I couldn’t take it anymore. I moved in with Mav today. I thought I wanted to be alone, but I was wrong. Being alone with my thoughts just makes me sad and lonely and I don’t want our daughter to bake in that. She needs to inherit your smile and dimples, so I’m making a bigger effort to be happy.
Penny took me to get my nails done today. I got a light pink for our daughter, but now everyone’s assuming that we’re having a girl. I haven’t confirmed it because we didn’t discuss it before you left but don’t be shocked when you come home to a lot of pink.
I also started seriously researching some girl names. I never realized how many people I don’t like until I started trying to name our daughter. And you better speak up if any of the ones that I suggest are ones that have bad meanings to you.
I’m still digging through a whole bunch of lists but there’s such weird ones out there, Jake. And we cannot name our child something that would get us a look from her teachers. Or a stripper name.
I love you. Baby girl is behaving herself, but she misses you.
Love,
Your Wife
~~~~~
To My Beautiful Wife,
I finally got a chance to check my email. We’re settled on the carrier now, but we’ve been doing a lot of drills and long briefings. I'm sorry that I haven't written earlier. Know that the two of you are always on my mind.
I’m glad you got your gift. I tried to record what I could think of for our baby girl. I don’t want her to miss anything. And I don’t want her keeping you up at night. Has she kicked yet? By my count, you’re hitting seven months in a day or two.
Thanks for sending me those photos. I put up one of the two of you from that photo shoot in my plane. Really brightens up the place. But it also reminds me of what I’m missing. Sometimes I have to take it down so I can focus.
I miss you. I miss our little girl. Every day, every hour, every second.
Try to relax. I know that everyone’s probably told you that a thousand times by now, but I don’t want you feeling stressed about me. I’m fine and I'll be home as soon as I can. Please tell me that you didn’t lift anything heavy while you were moving into Mav’s house. Or maybe it's better if you don't tell me.
And you can tell everyone about her. I don’t mind. It’s not like we could keep it a secret for much longer anyways. But make sure to mention that I was right.
And you have to tell me the worst names that you've seen on these lists. I left a list of baby names I liked in my nightstand. I'd research them when I couldn't sleep at night.
I love you and I love our daughter. I’ll try to be home soon.
Your Husband,
Jake
~~~~~
Dear Jake,
I had my seven month appointment today. Baby girl is healthy and still measuring a little small. But her heartbeat is strong and I can tell that she’s going to be stubborn coming out. The doctor says that it’s only a matter of time before she starts kicking.
I hope that the ocean isn’t too rough and you can see the stars. I remember when Mav and I spent a month in Hawaii when I was a teenager. We saw the most beautiful stars there. What if we picked a star name for our daughter? Not Stella, though. That was our dog's name growing up and I can't name my daughter after a dog.
I didn’t lift anything. Mav wouldn’t let me. And neither would Bradley. They’re watching me like hawks these days. And no, I didn’t mean that as a bird joke. Also, I can’t name our daughter after a bird. I’m trying to end the family streak of joke names.
Mckeighleigh was the most ridiculous looking name I’ve seen so far. And we’re not naming our daughter Precious either. Or worse, Chastity. I don’t know how those nurses keep a straight face when they hear those names.
And your recording telling her to go to bed has come in handy lately. Though I did warn her that we’ll be discussing the fact that she only seems to listen to you about that when she comes out.
I love you so much Jake. You’ll be home soon, I know it. And we’ll be waiting for you when you do.
Love,
Your Wife
~~~~~
Dear Jake,
I can't fall asleep, so I’m writing to you instead. And no, it wasn’t our baby girl who kept me up. I’ve had the worst heartburn these days. And Tums don’t do shit. They say that means that our daughter will come out with a full head of hair. I say that I'd take a bald baby in exchange for better sleep.
My baby shower is in a few days. Next weekend. Emma and Phoenix said that it was going to be relatively small, and I hope that they stick to it. I’m not really in the mood to see a lot of people anymore.
I yelled at Bradley the other day for making an omelet with three eggs because he left an egg in the carton without a 'friend' because he left an egg alone in its row since there was an odd number of eggs. Apparently, I kept crying about it for a while, but in all honesty, I don’t really remember much of that conversation. I’m pretty sure that Bradley’s keeping his distance now. You probably would have enjoyed seeing his face.
I asked for a little box at my baby shower to put name suggestions in. I’m running out of ideas. I keep worrying that we’re going to name her something stupid.
Baby girl is growing bigger, and I can’t believe that I’m still going to get fatter. I’m struggling to grab things off of the floor now. Maverick got me one of those grabby things that old people use. You would probably find it hilarious.
I love you. I miss you. I’ll write to you tomorrow.
Love,
Your Wife
~~~~~
“Thank you,” you told Emma as she handed you a lemonade.
Emma and Penny took you out for the day to spend some time out of Mav’s house. You were growing increasingly less interested in leaving your 'nest,' as Bradley nicknamed it, and they were trying their best to get you motivated to go out and continue to live your life.
You had done some shopping for a dress to wear to your baby shower and now the three of you were getting a snack before you’d head over to the Hard Deck for the rest of the afternoon. You chatted for a moment before you sighed, slowly got to your feet, and grabbed your purse from your chair.
“Bathroom?” Emma asked you.
“Where else?” you joked, walking off.
A few minutes later, as you were washing your hands at the sink, you looked up when another woman stepped inside the bathroom. You offered her a friendly smile before her familiarity suddenly struck you. Quickly drying your hands, you reached for your bag and turned to leave. But the woman stood directly in your path.
She had stripes of gray cutting through what appeared to be deep auburn hair. She carried herself with a sense of purpose. And an expensive handbag. She reminded you of some of the women you used to see at the country club that you worked at in college. The type who turned a blind eye when their pig husbands made some demeaning comment to the women on staff and were never seen without some kind of drink in their perfectly manicured hands.
“You know who I am?” Georgia Seresin asked softly.
You stared her down, gripping the strap of you bag tightly. Your heart was beating hard in your chest, and you could practically feel the rhythm in your ears. Taking a breath and releasing it, you tilted your chin up and narrowed your eyes at her.
“What are you doing here?” you demanded quietly, looking around the small public bathroom. No one else was in there except for the two of you. “Are you stalking me?”
“I came to California when my son didn’t respond to my letter.”
“I wonder why?” you wondered sarcastically.
“What did he tell you?”
“Everything,” you stated firmly. “Which is why I would appreciate it if you stopped acting like it was just a coincidence that you ran into me here, hundreds of miles from your home, when Jake is conveniently deployed.” You paused for a moment before repeating through gritted teeth, “Why are you here?”
“To talk to you. About my son.”
“What about your son?”
“I know that your child isn’t here yet, but when they’re born, perhaps you can understand how much pain it could cause a mother to miss out on their child’s wedding or the process of them expecting their first child. From a mother to a mother—”
“—I’m going to stop you right there.”
You tried to keep your tears of anger in as you thought about Jake’s expression when he told you about his childhood. When you thought about the pain that you could hear in his tone, that you could feel radiating off of him.
“Because a woman who calls herself a mother would never do the things that you did. You stole him from a poor girl who loved him. You lied to her, promising that you would take care of him and love him. And then you turned around and fed him to the wolves." Nostrils flaring and angry tears threatening to fall, you added, "Did you ever even tell him that you loved him?"
“Of course, we did,” she admonished.
“Did you? Did you tell him that you were proud of him? That you loved him no matter what happened?” you snapped, trying to keep your voice even. “Every night my mom told me that she loved me and that she was proud of me. How many times did you tell Jake that, Georgia? How is a child supposed to just know that if you don’t tell them?” Shaking your head as you let out a shaky breath, you turned back to her. “And just so you know, there won’t be a day where Jake doesn’t tell our child that he loves them. Not one.”
Georgia adjusted her handbag on her shoulder and pursed her lips together. Clearly, she wasn’t used to being spoken to in this manner, but you didn’t give a shit about her feelings.
“Did you come here to convince me to talk Jake into speaking to you again? To buy my baby from me? A combination of the two? Does your husband know that you’re here? Is he waiting outside?”
Georgia took another moment to compose herself from your questions. She glanced down at the rings on your finger before meeting your gaze again.
“I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that Jake selected a woman as . . . outspoken as you,” Georgia stated, adjusting her handbag again. “No, my husband does not know that I’m here. And I’m not here to buy my grandchild. I’m here to try and get through to my son and I’ve realized that the best way to do that would be through you. The woman he married and is having a child of his own with.”
Your eyes flashed with annoyance at Georgia's words.
“I have no interest in having a relationship with you because Jake doesn’t have an interest in it.”
“There’s nothing I can do to persuade you to speak with him about me?” Georgia pressed, an edge of desperation in her tone.
“No, there’s not.”
“You would deny your child a set of grandparents?”
“I will protect my child from people who hurt their father.”
Forcing yourself to take a breath, you stared down Georgia for a moment. She looked far more pathetic than you knew she was comfortable with. Apparently, she thought that she would just waltz in, and you would agree with her without any pushback.
But she couldn't have been more wrong.
“You know, when Jake told me about his upbringing, I honestly felt a bit of sympathy for you, Georgia. Maybe you were convinced that being a rich housewife to a pathetic little man was a better life than being loved by a poor man. And I’m sure that your husband hasn’t been kind to you over the years.”
The rage flashed to the surface again as she turned away from you for a moment.
“But how could you look another woman in the eye and convince her to hand over an innocent baby to a man that you knew would be a horrible father? That you knew would hurt that baby?”
After a moment, you walked past Georgia, who did not move to block your path this time. You opened the door and strode out of there and you didn't dare look back. Trying to gather yourself, you looked up to see Emma and Penny a few steps away from you.
“Are you okay? We were getting worried," Emma questioned with clear concern.
“Fine. Let’s get going to the Hard Deck,” you stated, already turning towards the parking lot.
“What happened?” Penny asked, studying your expression. You didn’t reply and just kept marching towards the parking lot until Penny rested a hand on your shoulder, forcing you to slow down. “You’re shaking. What’s wrong?”
“Jake’s mom walked into the bathroom,” you explained quietly, looking over your shoulder.
“What?"
“She knew where you were?” Penny asked urgently, looking around with a protective stare. Wrapping her arm around your shoulders, she encouraged you forward again. “Come on, let’s get going.”
~~~~~
Maverick’s face darkened after you finished with your explanation about what happened at the mall. Grabbing his phone, he got up from the table with a serious expression.
“I’m going to make a call,” he stated firmly. “They can’t stalk you and your child. I don’t care who the hell that they think they are in Texas. That’s not going to fly out here. That’s not going to continue.”
“Who are you calling?” you asked as Maverick walked off.
“An old contact. I’ll be right back.”
Penny told you to just let Mav make the call as the remaining four of you remained seated at the table. You twisted your engagement ring around your finger nervously, sharing a look with Emma and Bradley, who sat across from you.
“She didn’t try to hurt me—”
“—Doesn’t matter,” Bradley interjected quickly. “It’s creepy and it’s over the line and it’s going to stop. Now. Just let Mav make his call. He'll handle it.”
“I know,” you sighed, holding your head in your hands. “Jake is going to freak out when I tell him.”
“You’re going to tell him right away?”
“I can’t hide it from him. It might take me some time to find the words, but I have to tell him.”
Penny hugged you to her side and rubbed your back with her hand, giving you the maternal support that you really needed in that moment. You sighed and leaned against her, desperately wishing that Jake would be home soon.
“Everything will be alright. We’re going to figure this out.”
~~~~~
Dear Jake,
I hope that everything is running smoothly where you are. And that you read this email sooner rather than later.
Penny and Emma took me to the shops yesterday and when I was trying to leave the bathroom, I ran into your mother. She came up from Texas and she told me that she wanted to talk to me about you. Said something about using me to convince you to talk to her again. I told her that I wasn’t interested in that because you weren’t interested in that. She let me leave after that.
I don’t want to stress you out or make you feel like you have to do anything when you’re so far away, but I wanted to be honest with you. Mav’s made a few calls and he seems to think that he has a solution. Don’t stress about us, just focus on your mission and coming home safely in one piece.
We love you, Jake. And we’re safe, we’re fine. And we miss you.
Love,
Your Wife
~~~~~
Folding some fresh laundry in Maverick's house a few days later, you looked up when you heard your phone buzz. An unknown number was calling you and despite your hesitation, you answered it.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Honey.”
“Jake?” you whispered out shakily, holding a hand to your mouth. Moving to sit, you tried to calm yourself down and not just simply sob. “How are you calling me?”
“I have my ways,” Jake replied teasingly. Growing more serious, he asked, “Are you alright?”
“We’re fine, Jake.”
“I’m so sorry, Honey. She never should have been anywhere near the two of you.”
“We’re fine,” you repeated softly. “She didn’t threaten us. If anyone was threatening anyone, it was me.”
“That’s my wife,” Jake praised, causing you to smile bashfully. “But my father wasn’t there, right? It was just my mother?”
“Yeah. She said that he didn’t know that she was there, and I didn’t see him around.”
“Good. I’ll deal with them when I get home.”
“Okay.” After a moment you asked, “How much longer do you have?”
“Less than a minute. I’m sorry, Honey, I just needed to know that the two of you were okay. They thought that I was having some kind of stroke when I read your email and I managed to convince them to let me call you.”
“At least one good thing came out of the whole shitshow,” you sighed, resting a hand on your bump. “I love—”
You froze when you felt your daughter press her foot against your hand. Jake felt his heart leap into his throat when you cut yourself off and stop talking without a clear reason.
“What? What’s wrong?”
“She’s kicking,” you whispered softly.
“What?”
“Jake, she’s kicking. Our daughter is kicking!”
“She’s kicking?”
“Yes, she’s kicking,” you laughed, before your joy dimmed and tears pooled in your eyelids. Sniffling, you croaked out, “I love you so much, Jake. We love you so much.”
“I love you too. And I miss you so fucking much, Honey. And I’m so sorry that I’m not there.”
“Hangman, time’s up,” Jake heard from behind him, causing him to look over his shoulder.
“I’ve got to go, Honey,” he replied, grinding his jaw to try and stave off the tears. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too. Bye, Jake.”
The line went dead, and you slowly placed your phone down. Holding your hand to your mouth, you finally let out your sobs. And about a thousand emotions that you'd tried keeping in ever since Jake was forced to leave you.
Your daughter was finally kicking, but her father wasn’t here to feel her. And the thought only made you sob harder.
Back on the carrier, Jake rubbed the tears that leaked from his eyes.
He missed it. He fucking missed it. He missed his daughter kicking for the first time. He wasn’t there when his mother showed up out of nowhere and accosted you in a public bathroom. He wasn’t going to be there for your baby shower.
Jake had anticipated that deploying while you were heavily pregnant was going to be difficult. But he didn’t realize that it was going to be impossible, killing him slowly from the inside out.
“Hangman?”
“I’m coming,” Jake called back, clearing his throat. “I’m coming.”

It was spring in Bruges, and Y/n's small flower shop was at the height of its activity. The place exuded the sweet aroma of fresh flowers, and the atmosphere was a spectacle of colors. Y/n was completely immersed in her work, organizing arrangements with quick and dexterous hands. The orders kept coming.
It was a special week for weddings, birthdays and declarations of love, which meant that she and Jenny, her best friend and right-hand woman at the flower shop, were practically living inside the shop.
"Y/n, another big order has come in!" Jenny announced, holding up a large list. "I don't know how we're still standing.
Y/n let out a quick laugh as she adjusted the last few roses in a breathtaking bouquet.
"It's love, Jenny. There's no rest for love."
They continued to pack bouquets and hurriedly check addresses. The doorbell rang constantly, announcing delivery men coming and going with packages.
However, amid the rush, a small detail went unnoticed by Y/n. When reviewing the last order, she did not notice that the hotel name and room number were similar to another one nearby.
Hours later, as night fell in Bruges, Daniel Ricciardo was in his hotel room. He had just taken a relaxing bath after a long day of interviews and Formula 1-related commitments.
Wearing a comfortable t-shirt and shorts, he was about to watch something on TV when he heard a knock on the door.
"One second!" He called, walking to the door with a smile on his face, as always.
Upon opening it, he found a hotel employee holding an elegant bouquet.
"Good evening, Mr. Ricciardo. We received this at reception, it appears to be addressed to your room."
Daniel frowned, clearly surprised. He accepted the bouquet carefully.
"Okay...thanks."
"That's a lovely bouquet. Someone must like you very much, sir."
"Haha, maybe." Daniel gave a slightly disconcerted laugh, closing the door soon after.
Holding the arrangement, he walked to the small table in the room, still confused. He took a picture and sent it to his mother with the message: "Did you send the flowers? Some special occasion I forgot?"
The answer came almost instantly: "It wasn't me, dear. Maybe it was from a fan?"
Daniel raised his eyebrows, shaking his head. "A fa? How would anyone know what hotel I'm in? And the room number?" He muttered to himself.
He was about to forget about it when he noticed a small card attached to the bouquet. Picking it up, he carefully opened it and read it.
"To my dear Anne. Thank you for being the light of my life. Love, Henry."
As he finished reading, he burst out laughing, the sound echoing through the silent room. "Then it was a mistake..."
He turned the card over and on the back was printed the name of the florist responsible for the arrangement: Floréale Boutique
Determined to solve the mistake and return the bouquet, Daniel found himself with a very different mission than the ones he was used to.
The morning dawned peacefully and enchantingly in Bruges. The shy sun painted the city's stone facades with golden hues, while the cobblestone streets began to come to life. Bicycles passed slowly, accompanied by tourists taking photos of the charming buildings.
At the flower shop, Y/n and Jenny had just arrived for another day of work. Jenny. Carrying two coffees in her hands, she opened the door while Y/n adjusted her scarf around her neck.
"And let another day of flowery chaos begin!" Jenny joked, handing one of the coffees to Y/n.
Y/n laughed, unlocking the door and turning on the shop lights. "Are you excited for the chaos? Because I just want to survive it."
Neither of them had noticed the small mistake they had made the previous afternoon. With so many orders coming out of the store, it seemed impossible to remember every detail, and since no one had called to complain or report a missing bouquet, they both believed that everything was perfectly in order.
While Jenny went to the back of the store to prepare the day's arrangements, Y/n stayed at the counter, checking orders and confirming deliveries that would be made later.
"Jenny, don't you think there should be an official holiday for florists?" Y/n asked in an amused tone.
"Only if we get a bouquet as a bonus. Of expensive flowers, please."
The two laughed as the day at the flower shop began to gain pace.
Across town, Daniel was leaving his hotel room with the bouquet in hand. He walked down the hallway, attracting a few curious glances from the hotel staff, until the sound of quick footsteps caught his attention.
"Good morning, Danny!" Lando appeared, looking at the bouquet in his friend's hands with an amused smile. "Who's the lucky lady?"
Daniel laughed, already expecting the provocation.
"Nobody. I got this by mistake last night. Look." He took the note out of his pocket and handed it to Lando.
Lando read it quickly, frowning.
"Henry to Anne? Hm, that must have been quite an important statement." He handed the note back. "But the bouquet is too pretty to return, man."
Daniel chuckled, adjusting the arrangement in his hands.
"It's really pretty, but I'm taking it back. The florist put her name on the back of the card. Someone must be trying to figure out where the flowers went."
"Or you could keep them and call them your own." Lando teased, winking.
Daniel shook his head, laughing.
"Only you, Norris."
They got into the elevator, and Daniel checked the address of the flower shop once more on his phone. Once they reached the lobby, Daniel said goodbye to his colleague and left, walking through the charming streets of the city, following the map on his phone to make sure he didn't get lost.
At the flower shop, Jenny was busy in the back, deftly assembling bouquets while Y/n served customers at the counter. She was adjusting a vase of tulips on the display when she heard the bell on the door ring, indicating that someone had entered.
Lifting her head, she smiled immediately, as she always did when welcoming a customer.
But this time, the man who came in was no ordinary customer. Daniel walked in with the bouquet in his hands, his eyes curious as he looked around.
He found the place charming: Walls covered with shelves filled with vases and arrangements, a floral scent in the air and a touch of rusticity that made the environment seem welcoming.
Then he saw her. The woman behind the counter, with a simple bun, comfortable jeans, and a light-colored blouse, gave him a sweet smile. Something inside him quickened.
Daniel had never believed in love at first sight. But at that moment, something changed.
"Good morning. How can I help you?" Y/n asked, keeping her tone professional, although something about his presence also made her uneasy. He seemed familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.
Y/n noticed the bouquet he was carrying and frowned slightly.
"I..." Daniel began, smiling slightly as he looked at the bouquet. "I think this is yours." Y/n stared at him, confused, as he placed the arrangement on the counter. "I got this last night, at my hotel. It came with this note..." He pulled the card out of his pocket and handed it to Y/n. "...But I don't know a Henry, or an Anne."
Daniel laughed lightly, but his voice carried a warmth that made Y/n feel at ease.
As she read the card, she covered her face with one hand, clearly embarrassed. "Oh my God, this... this is a terrible mistake. I'm so sorry."
She picked up the bouquet carefully, still stunned by her carelessness.
"No problem" Daniel said, his voice calm. "I even had fun trying to guess who sent it."
Y/n laughed, even though she felt mortified. "Well, I'm glad you came to bring it. And, once again, I apologize."
The pilot smiled. "Maybe the mistake was good. After all, it got me here."
Y/n tried to hide the slight blush that still tinged her cheeks as she watched Daniel walk through the aisles of the store. He seemed genuinely interested, his eyes shining as he passed each carefully assembled arrangement.
“This looks like a compact field of flowers,” he commented with a playful smile. “It smells like paradise. I definitely need to come here more often.”
Y/n laughed, crossing her arms slightly. "That's the idea. I want it to be a place where people feel good, surrounded by beautiful things."
Daniel turned to face her, his brown eyes fixed on hers. "Well, you did it. I don't think I've ever seen anything so... charming."
For a moment, Y/n wasn’t sure if he was talking about the store or her. But before she could answer, Daniel pointed to an arrangement of vibrant yellow flowers on one of the shelves.
"These sunflowers are beautiful," he said.
"They're my favorite." Y/n smiled as she looked at the sunflowers, her eyes softening. "They remind me that even on the darkest days, you can find light. Always turn to the sunshine, you know?"
Daniel nodded, a genuine smile playing on his lips. “That’s beautiful.” He paused for a moment, as if in thought, before adding, “I’ve always liked lavender. Its scent reminds me of my childhood in Australia. My mother used to have it at home.”
"Lavenders are wonderful," Y/n replied, her voice soft. "And the scent is so calming. I think they say a lot about you."
"Really?" Daniel arched an eyebrow, intrigued.
"Yes" she teased, a smile tugging at her lips. "Maybe you're more sentimental than you let on."
Daniel laughed, raising his hands in a gesture of surrender. "You got me. I'm a lost cause."
The relaxed interaction between the two seemed natural, as if they had known each other for a long time. Daniel noticed the ease with which Y/n smiled and how the passion for what she did shone in her eyes.
"How long have you been here?" he asked, genuinely curious.
“I opened this shop three years ago. Me and my best friend,” she replied, arranging the bouquet on the counter. “It was a childhood dream. I’ve always loved flowers, and Bruge seemed like the perfect place to start.”
Daniel looked around again, admiring her work. "Well, you did a great job. You can feel that everything here has a special touch."
Daniel looked around again, admiring her work. "Well, you did a great job. You can feel that everything here has a special touch."
Y/n gave a shy smile. "Thank you. It's nice to hear that from someone who... well, clearly has good taste."
He laughed, shaking his head. "I'm starting to think it was lucky I got that wrong bouquet. Otherwise I wouldn't have known about this place or you,"
The words made Y/n feel a comfortable warmth in her chest, but she forced herself to keep her tone professional. "Well, I'm glad you came, even with the mistake."
Daniel took a step closer, still enchanted by the place. "Me too. And since I'm here, maybe I should buy something... to make up for the visit."
Y/n arched an eyebrow in amusement. "If you want, I can help you choose."
He smiles and Y/n puts her hands in her pants pocket, trying to hide her nervousness.
"Actually, I already know which one." Daniel looks around the flower shop and then sees a bouquet of ready-made sunflowers. "Those ones over there!" He discreetly points to the bouquet and she smiles.
"Good choice. You know," Y/n smiled, walking past him as she reached the bouquet to pick it up. "You can write a note. Whoever you want to send it to. There are some papers and colored pens on the counter."
Daniel smiles and nods, walking over to the counter and writing a few things on the front and back of the paper.
Y/n passed the bouquet to the cashier, smiling as she rang up the sale. “Are you going to deliver it yourself or do you want us to ship it? We have a great delivery service.”
Daniel pondered for a moment before answering, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "I think I'll take the shipment...I just met her."
Y/n blinked a few times, surprised, before smiling, a little shy. She felt her face heat up, but controlled herself.
Daniel took the note he had written and carefully attached it to the bouquet. 'There, here it is. It was great meeting you. I promise to come back while I'm in town... uh... I haven't asked your name yet...'
"Y/n, nice to meet you." She extends her hand across the counter and he shakes it, smiling.
"Daniel"
Y/n smiled back as he began to leave. "It was a pleasure, Daniel. And again, sorry for the mistake."
"Mistakes aren't always bad," the pilot replied with a wink, before opening the flower shop door and leaving.
Y/n watched him cross the street, the morning sun illuminating his features as he waved to her through the window, then disappeared. She stood still for a few seconds, as if processing everything that had just happened.
Returning to the counter, Y/n picked up the note he had attached to the bouquet to type the address into the system. As soon as she read the recipient, she frowned slightly, but with a smile growing on her lips. The address was that of the flower shop itself.
Intrigued, she carefully opened the note and read the handwritten words:
'To the florist who, in just a few minutes, made my day. I hope these flowers are a reminder of how you light up the room around you. I'd like to get to know you better. How about a coffee?'
Daniel.
On the back was his phone number.
Y/n smiled like a lovesick teenager, barely able to contain her excitement. That was when Jenny came out from the back of the store, holding a cardboard box and raising an eyebrow when she noticed Y/n's expression.
"Why do you have that face? Did you win the lottery or something?"
Y/n laughed, hiding the note behind the counter. "I just served the sweetest customer in the world... and he bought me flowers."
Jenny's eyes widened, dropping the box on the floor. "Wait, what? He bought you flowers? And you accepted? This is like a romance movie!"
"I didn't even know until now," Y/n replied, laughing but still with blush on her cheeks.
"And what did he say? Are you going out with him? Because honestly, you need to. The universe doesn't throw one of these at you every day."
Y/n just shrugged, an enigmatic smile on her lips.
Hours later, when she got home, Y/n picked up the phone and dialed the number Daniel had left. She hesitated for a moment before pressing the call button, but when she heard his voice answer on the other end, she knew she had made the right choice.
From that first meeting at the café, their romance blossomed. Daniel and Y/n were different in many ways, but there was something undeniably special about how they complemented each other.
He adored her passion for flowers, while she was enchanted by his adventurous spirit.
Their dates were filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and small gestures that showed how much they cared for each other. In every exchange of glances and every shared smile, it seemed clear: they were made for each other.

Author: This is going to sound crazy, but I thought the actor who played Ryle in "It Ends with Us" looked a lot like Daniel. I think I'm going crazy, so I should write this to get it out of my head.

WONDER BY ADOY – aizen sosuke (bleach) x afab!f!reader, modern!au + arranged marriage!au, sfw
genre – angst word count – ~2,000 warnings – n/a synopsis – aizen sosuke's the heir to the largest pharmaceutical company in japan, and you're his arranged wife. but your wedding oaths mean nothing when he doesn't love you and won't even look your way. unfortunately, you can't contain these feelings of yours for much longer.
When Sosuke comes home, dinner's already prepared for him, resting on a tray at his usual seat at the dining table. All of the food is still warm, recently made in fact, and he sits to eat his dinner before he needs to go see you. As he’s eating, you’re showering, the warm water comforting against the winter cold that seeps through the walls of the house and clings to your skin. Since the beginning of your marriage, the two of you have never eaten together, aside from business events and meetings with each other’s parents.
By the time you’re in bed, dry and relaxing against the headboard with a book in your hands, Sosuke knocks on your door.
You tell him to come in.
“Sorry for interrupting. I wanted to let you know that I will return at 8 to pick you up for tomorrow’s gala.”
He shuts the door behind him, leaving you to leaf through your novel before you go to sleep, repeating his words in your head, letting his voice wash over you, until you're no longer conscious.
In the morning, you wake before him so that you can prepare him breakfast and coffee, as well as his bento for lunch. You never worry about waking Sosuke because he sleeps on the second floor, whereas you live on the first, and he is at the far end of the hallway where the noise you make in the kitchen can barely reach him. It doesn’t really matter, though, because he’s already awake, washing his face and replying to emails that have accumulated overnight. And like dinner, you retreat to your room, and Sosuke comes down to eat. You try to pick up where you left off in your book, but really, you’re straining your ear the entire time, waiting for the click of the lock as Sosuke shuts the front door behind him as he leaves for work.
The rest of the day is also spent alone. You clean, grocery shop, and tend to the garden. Sosuke sits in meeting after meeting after meeting. But this daily monotony is cut short by the gala occurring at night.
You had received a few packages in the mail within the last week that you can finally unwrap. You drag the boxes out of your closet, and with a razor, rip through the tape with clean swipes to reveal ribboned boxes with printed anagrams and brand names. Sosuke had specifically asked you to wear this outfit, and you’re excited to see what he has chosen for you this time.
On the drive home, Sosuke is on a call with his secretary, going over the gala’s attendance list, highlighting connections he will be introduced to, existing partners and collaborators he cannot forget to greet, competitors that will try to get under his skin. When he arrives, you’re outside, and as you make yourself comfortable in your seat, he offers his compliments.
“Cream suits you.”
You reply that it's all thanks to his excellent taste.
He resumes his conversation, and you turn your cheek to look out the window. And like dinner, like breakfast, you retreat into your own mind, and Sosuke continues to work.
An hour later, the two of you arrive at the venue, a massive hotel tucked away in a mountainside. As instructed by the organizers, Sosuke pulls up to the gated entryway, where staff members come to open your doors and take the car key away to park on your behalf.
You step out, heels gently scraping the gravel and pavement, but you do not stand until Sosuke makes his way over to your door. He holds out his hand, which you take, and once you’re up, he wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you slightly into his side, smiling gently as he brushes the side of your cheek with his other hand. You reflect his expression, tilting your face into his touch.
“It will be a slight walk uphill, my love.”
Shaking your head, you mumble that you can manage.
As soon as the two of you step into the lobby, in its marble-floored, chandelier lit, dark oak-accented grandeur, Sosuke is approached by several businessmen, most older and executives of their own respective companies.
“Sosuke-kun – ah, wait, not anymore! Aizen-san, how are you? And is this your wife?”
If you recall, this person seems to be the treasurer of a large chain pharmacy in Singapore.
You bow, and Sosuke shakes hands with the treasurer.
“Please, call me Sosuke, my father is still the acting president, sir. And yes, I am glad to finally acquaint you with my wife.”
These pleasantries continue throughout the rest of the night – with the COO of a lab equipment manufacturing company, three local hospital directors, a representative of another chain pharmacy, and the founders of a biotech startup from the United States. You are led by gentle tugs from one conversation to the next, introducing yourself when you're prompted, occasionally fetching a bite of food or a flute of champagne, always returning to Sosuke’s side by a loop of your arm through his.
“Sosuke is a great husband, isn’t he?”
Currently, you're at a corner in the large conference room where there are drinks and other refreshments. An older lady, in her mid-50s or so, stands next to you, as you grab a glass of water, taking care not to crease Sosuke’s blazer which you hold in your other arm. She's the wife of the dean of an elite nursing school, and you recognize her as a long-time friend of the Aizen family. Diligently, you offer the glass to her, which she takes with a slight dip of her head, and with a gesture of your hand, you compliment her knitted shawl.
“My granddaughter.”
Though you would prefer to return to Sosuke, leaving such a conversation so abruptly would indubitably damage his reputation. Instead, you inquire the lady about her granddaughter’s age, favorite hobbies, and health. She responds enthusiastically – barely five years old, enjoys knitting and origami, very healthy – before shifting the conversation back to your relationship.
“Sosuke’s always been a caring boy. He must love you.”
You chuckle behind your hand.
“I love him very much.”
By the gala’s conclusion, a fog has descended over the mountainside, ghosting down its slopes and forested ridges, as well as much of the highway leading out and towards the city.
Sosuke’s satisfied. He was able to meet the people he wanted to see, assess the relationships he’d been investigating, and schedule a few tours of factories he’d been planning to visit. Once he goes home, he can move onto next steps. He will have to shift a few meetings around for tomorrow, but they were low priority anyway. He also has to review the documents for that recent inspection that was conducted, though he highly doubts anything of concern came up. Another late night.
As usual, car rides home are quiet. There are no more calls for Sosuke to take, and when he glances at you, you’re staring out the window, hands folded over his blazer that you’ve draped over your lap, chest slowly rising and dropping with deep breaths, stuck in your own daydreams.
In reality, you’re reminiscing over your bold proclamation to the older lady. How daring, almost presumptuous of you, to so arrogantly lay claim to your feelings for Sosuke. But you’re relieved that the elder was understanding and sympathetic of your bursting emotions, and she had prayed for your relationship to last long and well.
For as long as you can remember, Sosuke has been your whole life. You partook in etiquette classes, biology and chemistry tutoring, dance lessons, flower arrangement competitions, fusui lectures ever since you were young, as was expected of the daughter of the head of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Examination Division of the national Japan Patent Office. Your father managed all vaccine patents, so it was no surprise that your hand in marriage was crucial for many opportunists.
At the time, you didn’t know that your life would be dedicated to Sosuke and your role as his wife, but you dutifully listened to your father, only hoping that all of your effort would pay off. After all, hundreds of thousands of women have done it before you. No matter who your husband will be, you promised your father that you would become a wife no man would have to worry about.
In seventh grade, you were introduced to Sosuke at your omiai, though there really wasn’t much to consider. His father is the president of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the country, and was often crossing paths with yours. There was no doubt that the two of you would get married, given the strategic business advantages and both of your inabilities to deny your parents.
Therefore, your marriage to Sosuke was speedily arranged.
Many of your girl friends growing up, all of similar class and privilege, all held a certain level of contempt or resentment. And you did, too, for a long time. But ever since you laid eyes on Sosuke – his tousled brown hair, pleasant smile, gentle eyes, sturdy frame –, you were convinced you had been blessed by the deities, presented with the best husband of a stranger anyone could ask for.
And his dignified and measured confidence has only furthered your affections for him. He only asks, never demands, when he needs something from you. He always finishes the meals, coffee, tea you prepare for him to the last bit. He brings you to business functions, like tonight’s gala, even though you know he’s busy and doesn’t need to.
You shake your head, releasing a soft sigh. It must be that one extra sip of alcohol you had, because your audacity seems to have no end. In your mind, you apologize to the older lady for what you’re about to do, for wasting her genuine blessings and wishes.
You’re almost home, car changing into the left lane and crossing onto the small bridge that leads into the residential area where the two of you live. The fog has made its way here, too, settling as a layer atop the water and mugging the streetlights lining the sidewalk. The weather forecast mentioned something about it snowing over the weekend.
“Stop the car.”
With a quick check in the rearview mirror, Sosuke pulls to the side.
“Is something wrong?”
You unbuckle your seatbelt and grab the door handle to let yourself out.
Sosuke glances at the clock on the dashboard.
You step out, swaying slightly in your heels before regaining balance, and walk over to the rail of the bridge. The water's dark, and you wonder if anything can survive in the icy, rapid currents underneath.
Deep down, you know Sosuke only calls you his wife in front of others. The two of you haven’t embraced each other either, not even the night of your marriage. His secretary doesn’t come to distract you with lavish gifts or day trips. Sosuke doesn’t even look your way unless absolutely necessary.
Turning around, you walk back. You catch him checking the time again before he looks up at you.
You exhale, watching the snowy puff of your breath separate and dissipate.
“Sosuke, you’re very kind.”
“Are you cold?”
“I met your family friend, and she asked if you loved me.”
“I see. We should head home.”
“I love you.”
Silence.
“You go first. I will be back soon.”
You shut the door, and for a second, through the tinted windows, you can make out the harsh look in his eyes. He stares at you for a few brief moments before he pulls away, and you watch until the crunch of the road underneath the tires and the beam of the tail lights are no longer so distinct, so stark, in contrast to the still haze, the dark waters below, the steeled grip you have on his blazer.

If you recognize the movies hiding behind the decoy titles, please do not give identifying details about them in the notes.
Movie n°1: Cymbal Bearing Chimpanzee
A package is mistakenly delivered to a rural community. The people who live there don't quite know what to make of it, but through a series of events that void its warranty, the contents save the life of a crippled child, slowly convince the local con man to turn a new leaf, and helps the community survive the winter by teaching them new ways. When the company who manufactured the package come to get it back, the people embrace their newfound fellowship to stop the company's representative from destroying their homes. In the end, the package is sent back where it came from.
Movie n°2: Snake-eating Bird
A depressed girl is about to get half-heartedly married when she gets abducted by people calling themselves circus performers (i'll refer to them as that even if it's a bit more complicated than that). They go through adventures together, among other things dangerous acrobatics with a blindfold, she goes for a swim, one of them sets up a tablecloth for a pique-nique and there's more drinking than eating involved but she's mostly fine with that. She then splits from the group to go with another guy who's got a mask and an overdramatic persona and they see some scenery. The guy reveals he's an old childhood friend of hers who she hasn't seen in years, and they rekindle their relationship. He mentions not minding too much buying a house in the neighbourhood, which is HUGE because he's never really been tethered to a place until then, but she goes back to her fiancé out of duty. The wedding doesn't proceed because there's a break-in and the best friend of the fiancé dies, which is sad because he was an old acquaintance of one of the circus performers and the fiancé and friend were the ones who organized the whole experience for her. The girl then goes back with the circus performers instead of supporting her fiancé in his grief??????
