Introduction to My Au David and His Bride
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know most people know about @ghoulgeousimmaculate and @misslavenderlady Au and their boys' wives. I love their stories, which then inspired me to start my own Au! I wanted to make a story with a slightly traditional route because I want to be able to represent women from my culture as it is a beautiful culture and I would want to see how the boys go about it. I also will be making the wives here either Muslim (people who follow the Islamic path) or whatever religion you all believe the others would be.
_This occurs in Modern times, with cell phones, tablets, etc. and Michael had joined the boys willingly, even after seeing how monstrous they can be. He joined them the day (well night hehe) of the bonfire and slaughtered the few surfer Nazis that tried to escape.
-The boys and Michael first met Mahnoor (the woman in the picture) on the street when they walked past a small wedding hall and decided to crash it for free food. David felt a strong hand smack him on his shoulder and turned to see this beautiful woman staring at him with disdain. David claimed he had never seen a more beautiful woman in his life and instantly turned on his charm to try to win her over. Just between us, it did not work because she instantly kicked them out of the party by herself.
-The boys instantly fell for her and David could not let her get away! For a few weeks, David began to... "admire from afar" (aka stalk) the lovely lady, slowly realizing she is... soft and caring. He had witnessed her help out the communities around her, giving a lot of her paycheck to orphanages and homeless shelters, and she always had a smile on her face. Most people would assume that because she is like this, her home life must be horrible, but she has an even closer bond with her family than most would. She loved her parents and her 2 younger sibling as they loved her just as much. David felt... a bit jealous seeing how close her family was but nonetheless, he wanted her even more so time to take action!
- He first let himself be known where she worked, a small coffee shop where she was a baker. His go to order was a black coffee and some toffee cake that used to bake. See, David is not into sweet treats, but the cake was so delicious, he fell for her even more. Mahnoor, even though despised him in the beginning, felt herself all flustered and a little happy that he liked her cake as he kept coming back for more. The boys had started to come in slowly to the coffee shop for their own little treats; Marko and his love for hot chocolate pudding, Paul and his favorite chocolate brownies (though a bit upset for the lack of weed in them), Dwayne and his desire for the peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake, and Michael with the classic coffee crunch tres leches cake.
-Seeing the boys devour her desserts every other day, Mahnoor felt proud of her food and started to come out more from the back and just talk with them, get to know them a little more but she did get drawn to David more. She felt like David and her had the same thinking, since they are the eldest of their family and had more responsibilities than most. She had slowly gotten to know him more after work, usually hanging in the park or just simply walking to her house before her curfew hit. David would never admit it out loud but he really truly felt heard when he was around her and that melted his cold, undead heart. Sadly... something traumatic had to happen for him to finally and truly reveal what he and his boys are.
-Mahnoor was closing up for the night when a bunch of men were harassing her across the street. She usually ignores them as they have been there from the start of her opening of the shop but they have been getting more bold as they quickly cross the street and start to follow her, getting more inappropriate by the second. Mahnoor tried to quickly escape but was grabbed by her shirt and was tugged back by the group. They kept pushing her around, pulling on her shirt to try to rip it off as she screamed for help from somebody, until she saw 5 pairs of glowing yellow eyes in the alleyway. The... creatures moved so fast, ripping the men off of her as she heard screams of pain, the gushing of blood, and manic laughter from... the creatures that sound.. so much like the people she grew to love as she shut her eyes in fear. Once the screaming was gone, Mahnoor slowly opened her eyes to see the man she loves, his face morphed into a nasty snarl, his teeth and mouth covered in blood and his glowing yellow eyes. She gasped in fear when she slowly looked behind him to notice the boys... also covered in blood and have the same damn eyes.
-David did not know what to do, he wanted to explain to her before who he was and what kind of... creature they all were but the timing was never right! He did not know what to say to comfort her because... he never had to worry about some girl's feelings but... his heart aches for her. The boys, bless them, tried to deescalate the situation as much as they could, but... Mahnoor simply backed away and ran off home before they could even try to comfort her. David... let her run, not simply because he did not want to terrify her.... he himself was so terrified of seeing or hearing what she had thought of him.
-It had been several weeks since the incident and Mahnoor... well her heart was aching for someone she has not seen since the bloody mess. He has not come in to the coffee shop but his boys have... but only to get what they wanted and quickly leave. Even when they never asked for it, she always packed a small toffee cake for him... She felt hurt but she ached for him to come back... she wanted to see him yet was still terrified of the face she saw that night. That night, after closing the store up, she had gone to the Mosque and prayed for him, prayed to god asking if she should give him the chance, if he was truly the one for him. That night, she had gotten her answer when she left the mosque to see him in the flesh on his stupid bike he drives around town.
-He did not know what to say when her saw her, but he felt like he didn't have to for when she walked over to him, she hugged him oh so tightly. She called him a stupid demon for leaving her like that for which he quickly corrected her by saying he was a vampire, not demon. She smacked his chest when she pulled back before holding his hand, squeezing it a little as she told him that she did not care what he was... it would not stop her from loving him. David wanted to sweep and kiss her but he knew because she is a Muslim girl, he had to wait for that occasion so he kissed her forehead and whispered an I love you too.

Jumu'ah Sohbet: 13 September 2024
This Sohbet will take you on a proverbial flying carpet through the past, present, and future. With Allah, we go, Bismillah!
#1. We are living such turbulent times in our modern era!:
However, intellectuals Mehdi Hassan and Rob Delayney advised those of us deflated by man's state of affairs: "Don't be pessimistic about the future because this is your moment to relive history." Implying that at some point in our history, this sense of apocalyptic demise has been experienced before. Look, despite COVID, Climate change and War, they are continuing to make my accident old news 😅
youtube
Spiritually, Hazrat Jalaluddeen Rumi (RA) says: "Lovers find secret places inside this violent world where they make transactions with beauty." I couldn't agree more because what keeps us grounded, apart from the maddening crowds, is our spiritual connection through our Tariqa (spiritual school) that keeps us conscious of the truth and reality of La ilaha illalah (There is no god but God / Allah)! We are therefore programmed to see the positivity and beauty of Allah, no matter how much human ugliness is projected around us. Shukran Ya Allah (Divine gratitude)!
#2. We just passed the 6th of Rabi ul-Awwal which marks the Wisaal (Divine meeting) or Urs (Divine wedding) of the spirtual monarch of our country, Hazrat Shaykh Sayed Ahmed Badsha Peer (RA). His resting place was round the corner from where I worked pre-accident, and at a particularly sad time in my life, his spiritual solace carried me through it! In the middle of Durban's humble inner-city within a multiracial cemetry during a racist passage of South African history itself. Subhana'Allah (Divine glory)!:
Tumblr media
Hazrat Badsha Peer (RA) arrived in Durban from South India as an indentured labourer in 1860 and was recognised by the British authorities as a spiritual personality and discharged of his duties. I remember telling visitors that his legacy as an indentured labourer was that his plot of sugarcane was always harvested at the end of the work day, without him having to sweat, were some of his mystical abilities. He passed away in 1894 in the precinct of the Grey Street Juma Masjid and buried in the Brook Street Muslim Cemetery. He was from amongst the Majzoob category of Sufis, who are totally drowned in the love of Allah, making them unaware of their own physical conditions. Due to this, people never recognised his spiritual position! It was in 1895 upon the arrival of Hazrat Soofie Saheb (RA) that in pure Sufi ethic, he first went to pay homage to the great Awliya (Friend of Allah) of this country. And, in doing so, located the grave of Hazrat Badsha Peer (RA), making it known for the first time that here lies "BADSHA PEER" (A King amongst Spirtual Guides)! [Chishty Sabiree Jahangiri Khanqa and Research Centre]
This was at a time when I was not even a Sufi murid (follower). As the Sufi adage goes, when the student is ready, the teacher appears. Shukran Ya Allah that he did, in the form of Shaykh Taner Ansari of Allahistan! It is also where your Mimi's Ummi is laid to rest with Allah in this world. Allah blessed your Mama and me with Mimi's blessed presence in our lives where she sought me out at the nearby offices and spiritually enlivened my consciousness of the blessing round my corner. Allah, if Hazrat Badsha Peer (RA) was involved in the spiritual mechanics of keeping me alive after a 2-month coma as it was while I still worked there, please convey Your love and eternal gratitude on my behalf:
Ya Shakur Ya Wadud!
#3. Anne (our spiritual mother) asked us to contemplate on the English translated version of Sura 89 of the Chronological Edition of the Qur'an as renewed by our Tariqa, Al-e Imran (The Family of Imran). I couldn't stop the outpouring of insights and awe within me towards Allah's words in those 200 verses. For example, I will just share 3:
- V4: Allah as the mighty establisher of consequences. (Yes, us human beings with free will must be made to feel the consequences of our choices!)
- V7: Some messages of the Qur'an are clear, but others are allegorical. Allegorical means containing a moral or hidden meaning. (As a past Qur'anic Arabic student herself, I had felt that the Qur'an is either too simplistic or too deep which drove me to keep trying to connect to it or altogether evade it! Until, unexpectedly and gloriously, did our Tariqa delve into it as richly as it did, where at virtually every other verse I am compelled to contemplate!)
- V86: The community of disbelievers who reject truth after it has come to them! (Like extremist Jews and extremist Christians that firmly hold onto their forefathers' practices! But, Islam was the most recent of Abrahamic religions, which affirmed their paths and with reasoned caveats. Another reason the community of the middle path [ummatan wasatan] makes more sense, if you ask me):
In conclusion, we enter Yuwm un-Nabi, which is an annual celebration of the birth of Rahmatul lil 'Alameen (Mercy of the worlds), our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)! Insha'Allah, it is a well-executed success as planned, which unites us deeper:
Ya Ghalib Ya Azim (Yearning Allah's ability to succeed)
Ya Wadud Ya Salaam Ya Jami Ya Nafi (and Allah's love, peace and unity in goodness)

People often say that LGBTQIA+ people doesn't exists in Muslim/Islamic World. Nowdays many muslims argued that LGBTQI+ rights are contrary to their traditional beliefs, homosexuality shouldn't be decriminalized in their native countries, because it goes against their moral values, cultural norms & social mores,[...].
But previous Islamic history & muslim traditions had wide range of acceptance of sexual & gender diversity. In those days Muslim communities weren't so bigotted, heterosexist,homophobic/transphobic, heteropatriarchal.Colonialism, communism, dictatorship, islamist regime justified the prejudices against queer folks in Muslim world, not Islam itself.
In 1854, Ottoman empire legalised consensual homosexuality in parts of Middle East,North Africa,Eastern Europe & West Asia.Notably Mughal,Mamluk,Khilji,Sayyid, Pathan,Lodi,Abbasid,Safavid,Qajar,Ottoman empire gave privileges to gender variants and eunuchs.Even it is also said that Aghawas (a designation for trans feminine, effeminate,agender/eunuch & intersex) were served as guardian of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s mosque & tomb. There had been numerous homoerotic paintings & same sex romantic poetries in medieval islamic era.In pre-modern muslim societies ghazals (sufi spiritual song) has direct references with queerness. In some sufi traditions cross-dressing, gender fluidity was considered as sacred.
Since 18th & 19th century almost all muslim countries were colonized or being influenced by European Orthodox Christians.Europeans pushed their moral codes, heteropatriarchal system & gender roles upon muslim communities. But western colonialism was unable to erase queerness & love from asia.In Pakistan,Bangladesh,India & some parts of Afghanistan, Hijras (designation term for trans feminine, trans woman, gender diverse, intersex) are still exists.Hijras has recognition of third gender in Pakistan,India & Bangladesh. They have some civil rights in those countries mentioned. But Transgender people's livelihood in Afghanistan is very worst. Some Afghan trans people's lifestyles are very similar to Hijra/Khawaja Sara subculture. In central-asian muslim cultures gender vice-versa or variance are not uncommon.Bacha bazi or Bacha-bozi is practice where adult men get sexual services from young crossdressers and effeminates.
Waria, another transgender muslim community can be found in Indonesia.Waria transgenders has very limited rights comparing to Hijras. In South Sulawesi, Indonesia Bugis (a muslim tribe) recognized 5 genders: Oroané(masculine men), makkunrai (feminine women), Calalai (trans-masculine or masculine women), Calabai (trans-feminine or feminine male), Bissu (androgynous or non-binary).The classification of the calabai, calalai, & bissu as third genders is disputed. These roles can also be seen as fundamental occupational and spiritual callings, which are not as directly involved in designations such as male and female. In pre-Islamic culture, Bissu were seen as intermediaries between the people and the gods. The Bissu are closely associated with the female yet androgynous moon goddess, as her spiritual offspring.Up until the 1940s, the Bissu were still central to keeping ancient palace rites alive, including coronations of kings & queens. Historically, Bissu have played an important role in other ceremonies as well, particularly in weddings and childbirth events. However today Bissu & Waria faces marginalization in their homeland due to rise of Political Islamism & Islamic Extremism .
Here is a list of Muslim/Islamic nations where homosexuality is not a criminal offense (technically):
Albania - Legal since Ottoman period.
Bosnia & Herzegovina - Legal since Ottoman period.
Kosovo - Legal since Ottoman period.
Azerbaijan - Legal since 1918 or 2000 (not sure). But state often arrests LGBTQ community members.

Here is a list of Muslim/Islamic nations, where transgender & gender diverse people has rights:
Iran - Transgender individuals were officially recognized by the government, under condition of undergoing sex reassignment surgery, with some financial assistance being provided by the govt. for the costs of surgery, and with a change of sex marker on birth certificates available post-surgery since early 1980s. However, substantial legal and societal barriers still exist in Iran. Trans individuals who do not undergo surgery have no legal recognition and those that do are first submitted to a long and invasive process (including virginity tests, parental approval, psychological counseling that reinforces feelings of shame & inspection by the Family Court).
Bosnia and Herzegovina - Trans people may change their legal gender in Bosnia & Herzegovina after a sex reassignment surgery & other medical treatments.
Pakistan - Pakistan recognized Hijras as third gender in 2009. In 2018 Pakistan's parliament passed “The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act” which provides fundamental rights in health, education, government and security.
Lebanon - In late 1990s Lebanon allow sex reassignment surgery. In 2016 Lebanon court legally recognized a trans man as man.
Turkey - Transgender individuals were allowed to change their gender since 1988.However later Turkey adopted harsh policies for transgenders, required many pre–requisutes in order to be able to receive gender-affirming surgery. Transgender persons had to ask & be granted permission for the surgery,be at least 18 years of age, unmarried, & sterilized in order to receive gender-affirming surgery.
Jordan - Since 2014 jordan allow trans people to change their gender after a sex change operation.
Bahrain -Since 2008 Bahrain allow trans people to change their gender after a sex change operation.
Bangladesh - since 2013 Bangladesh recognized hijras & eunuchs as third gender. In 1975 Dr. Hosne Ara Begum became the first transsexual woman to be recognised as woman in Bangladesh.
Indonesia - Indonesia allows sex change operation for Warias & give limited rights for transgenders.
Kazakhstan - Since 2003, trans people allowed to change legal gender following sex change surgery, medical examinations, & sterilisation.
Kyrgyzstan -Transgender people allowed to change legal gender following sex reassigment surgery, medical treatments, sterilisation since 2014.
Tajikistan -Under Tajik law, trans people may change their legal gender on their passport if they provide a medical statement that they have undergone sex reassignment surgery. There has been 2 sex-change operations performed – the first one in 2001 and the second one in 2014.
UAE- allows intersex persons to undergoes a sex change surgery & change their gender.
Egypt - In 1988, a sunni Islamic Fatwa by Muhammad Sayyid Tantawy grants legal permission to perform gender affirming surgery. In Egypt, those who want to undergo the surgery must seek an approval from a gender reassignment review committee at the Medical Syndicate of Al-Azhar. But the committee has not convened since 2013, when Al-Azhar withdrew its member from the ccommission.

- the jedi all go to the same temple, in this au the jedi religion is no different then being Jewish, Muslim, Christian, ect.
- Caleb and Cal are neighbors, they've been besties since kindergarten (I refuse to separate these two, they are now a pair)
- Caleb's nickname is Kanan
- masters= parents (adopted or bio, a few exception cases like Ahsoka and Ani, Obi wan and Ani, ect.)
- obi wan is qui gon's bio kid, Anakin was adopted
-Ahsoka is adopted by plo koon
- while I would love to include all clones, last time I tried that I fried my modern AU, so here's a more edited list with my faves
- Jango had Boba and Omega
- Rex and Cody are brothers, they're boba and omega's cousins
- the bad batch(quintuplets) + domino twins are brothers and are boba and omega's first cousin once removed (so Jango's aunt/uncle's kids)
- pretty much everyone in the fett family joins the military to some degree
-Bd-1 is Cal's small dog, C3P0 is a golden retriever (or possibly a service dog for Ani due to childhood trauma) and R2 is a cat (maybe a tuxedo), Chewwie is one of those big super fluffy dogs, Chopper is a ginger cat, and Jar Jar is Padme's overly excitable yippy dog (couldn't decide on a breed)
- Hera and Kanan eventually adopt a wolf dog they name Dume, Chopper hates sharing attention
- Kanan adopts Ezra
- Sabine is related to Bo-Katan and Satine (somehow, I know she's the same clan so extended family!)
- After meeting clan Wren (I am writing this as I watch Rebels) I have decided Ursa was Satine and Bo-Katan's adpoted first cousin once removed
- Hera is totally Airforce, like I feel like that's the closest to her role in rebels, her and Kanan met in highschool
- their song, which later became their first dance at their wedding, is "Ain't no mountain high enough"
- Zeb is another friend of theirs from highschool, he was a year or two younger
- Zeb is a security guard, Ezra is an animal conservationist (see him and Loth wolves), his parents had a radio show where they talked about endangered species
- Kanan is a firefighter (because irony) and Cal is an elementary school teacher who is in charge of his school's fencing club
- in this au Kanan's injury comes from a job, once he's blinded he joins Ezra in his work
- Cere is a highschool music teacher, Merin is a history teacher who also has an elective cultures course, and Greez is a freelance pilot who's business is definitely totally 100% legal(/s aka he takes some shady jobs)
- Cere and Greez are neighbors, Merin works at the same school as Cere, and she meets Cal through her
- Din obviously adopts Grogu at some point, and Luke volunteers at the temple's Sunday school which is where he meets them(???)
- I feel like Luke would own a martial arts school, Leia becomes a politician like her mum, Anakin would be a robotics engineer
- Satine is prime Minister of Mandalore, Bo- Katan is either military or lawyer (she strikes me as the lawyer type), Sabine was going to join the military but ended up pursuing an artistic career, Korki wants to go into politics like his aunt
- Mandalore works like the u.s where it's a bunch of small countries a trench coat, except they're more functional... mostly
- Obi wan is either a social worker (helping other kids like Anakin) or some kind of diplomat, he only became a diplomat cause he took a few classes to spend more time with a cute international student *cough* Satine *cough* and found he was good at diplomacy
- Plo Koon and Ahsoka are body guards/ security, Plo has his own company, Ahsoka started as being in charge of marketing (I consulted my mom for Ahsoka's job and she suggested marketing because she's so bubbly)

At the feasts given on these occasions [weddings], and on subsequent days of the marriage-festivities, a curious custom, which reminds us of the alites or prœpetes of the Romans, is usually observed. The cook makes two hollow balls of sugar, each with a hole at the bottom: then taking two live pigeons, he attaches little round bells to their wings ; and having whirled the poor birds through the air till they are giddy, puts them into the two balls before mentioned: each of these is placed upon a dish; and they are put before the guests; some of whom, judging when the birds have recovered from their giddiness, break the balls. The pigeons generally fly about the room, ringing their little bells: if they do not fly immediately, some person usually makes them rise; as the spectators would draw an evil omen from their not flying. The ball and bird are called "el-kubbeh wa-t-teyr." It is said that the Muslims of Egypt, on some occasions, as on the inauguration of a Sultan, used to observe the custom here described; but this appears to be an error, arising from a misunderstanding of the term "el-kubbeh wa-t-teyr" applied by historians to an umbrella surmounted by the figure of a bird, which was borne over the head of a Sultan in certain pompous processions.
-Edward William Lane, The Manners and Customs of the Modern Egyptians, page 550 (reiterating my usual warning that while Lane extensively documents the material culture of Egypt in the 1830s, he is a racist and a misogynist of a possibly criminal degree, so I advise caution reading his works)

Introduction into Tunisian Cinema
Tumblr media
As I Open My Eyes (2015)
Tunis, summer 2010, a few months before the Revolution: Farah, 18 years-old, has just graduated and her family already sees her as a future doctor. But she doesn’t think the same way. She sings in a political rock band. She has a passion for life, gets drunk, discovers love and her city by night against the will of her mother Hayet, who knows Tunisia and its dangers too well.
Tumblr media
Millefeuille (2012)
This is the story of a whole country told by Nouri Bouzid through the fate of two girls, Zaineb and Aisha, symbols of the Revolution and the future of Tunisia. Both are fighting for their independence, to win their freedom. Both fight against the religious and cultural shackles established by an archaic society. A society that, while the country is in turmoil, still hesitates between modernity and traditionalism.
Tumblr media
Hedi, a wind of Freedom (2016)
Hedi is a wise and reserved young man. Passionate about drawing, he works without enthusiasm like commercial. Although his country is changing, he remains subject to social conventions and lets his family make the decisions for him. While his mother is actively preparing for his wedding, his boss sends him to Mahdia looking for new clients.
Tumblr media
A Summer in La Goulette (1996)
During the summer of 1966, on the eve of the Six Day War, Youssef the Muslim, controller on the TGM, Jojo the Jew, king of brik with the egg, and Giuseppe the Catholic, Sicilian fisherman, live with their family in the same building that is the property of the Beji Hajj. The three men are inseparable outside of work, their families live in good neighborhood and share a nonchalant happiness in the small port village of La Goulette in the suburbs of Tunis. Until the day each of their daughters, Meriem the Muslim, Gigi the Jewish and Tina the Catholic, inseparable as their fathers, decide to lose their virginity before August 15 with a boy of another religion than theirs. The first attempt, the wedding day of Jojo's eldest daughter, comes to a halt as a result of the intervention of the alert fathers. When the film ends, the Six Day War begins and breaks this harmony between the communities.
Tumblr media
Dachra (2019)
Yasmine, a journalism student, and her two friends, Walid and Bilel, are trying to unravel the mystery of an old crime committed more than 25 years ago. In the middle of nowhere, a woman had been found mutilated and almost dead. Once their investigation is over, they will find themselves in a forest where they will discover a small isolated village called "Dachra". Stuck in this unknown territory, the trio will try to escape the horror. Will they have managed to escape?
Tumblr media
Júnún (2006)
Jùnùn deals with the schizophrenic condition prevailing in Arab societies. The film takes deep into a punishing excursion, showing us the underworld of the poor and the discarded, and how easily they can be made to embrace extremist and fundamentalist thoughts. The film forces us to confront a bipolar reality, once dark, once light, a reality too often repressed. Jùnùn explores the human beings by their feelings of love and hatred while challenging the viewers by its approach to violence, exclusion, the thirst for freedom and the patriarchal, religious and institutional power on the individual.
Tumblr media
Redeyef 54 (1997)
In 1954, two young intellectuals, the ethnologist François and Ibrahim the lawyer, return to Tunisia after their studies in Paris. Brahim is engaged in the national independence movement. He is charged by the party to find his brother Beda, the resistants' leader, and to convince him to lay down his arms, a prerequisite for peaceful negotiations.
Tumblr media
Wrangling (2010)
While Zeineb is very religious and wears the hijab, her sister Lilia likes to party and enjoy life to the fullest. Despite their contradictory lifestyles, the two sisters have a real complicity and Zeineb takes a tender and protective look at Lilia's love affair with their neighbor Skander. When the young couple's families meet to decide to marry, the two sisters suddenly find themselves on the same ground: defending their freedom as women in the face of conservative hypocrisy. The film explores with humor and finesse the tug-of-war that women experience in today's Tunisian society.
Tumblr media
The Art of Mezoued (2010)
"The Art of Mezoued" tells the story of the life and work of the leading figures of the Tunisian Mezoued (popular song based on the bagpipes). It portrays its pioneers and its living actors, between consecrated stars, fallen stars and rising celebrities: Salah Farzit, Mostapha Gattel Essid, Hédi Donia, Abdelkarim Benzarti and Achraf. The film relates through interviews, testimonies and live concerts in wedding parties and in various places (cafes, cabarets, party room ... ), the dense, eventful and controversial history of the Tunisian popular music Mezoued, its rise and its crises, its musical components and its themes, its territories of deprivation and popular plebiscite, its official exclusion (until 1990) and its phenomenal success carried by popular musicians, with the appearance of "bad boys" and singular talent and by cult songs, sometimes deviant, sometimes protesting or simply funny, saucy and festive.
Tumblr media
Eclipses (2015)
Between the passion of Hind, a young journalist, for Lassâad the police commissioner, the murder of an entrepreneur by his daughter-in-law, and the discovery of a network of jihadist smugglers that will have to be dismantled, Eclipses retorts the strings of an infernal spiral in thriller mode.

Do you have any fics in the works? Tell us about them!Looking forward to any other writer's upcoming fics? Tell us about them too!
My wip folder is never empty, darling. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing to say it, given the number of unfinished works I have there, but oh well...
I haven't had much time to write. You know... real life, bills, family, more bills... 😵 and of course I procrastinate a lot (I blame Netflix Brasil for getting Downton Abbey and all the Turkish diziler I find online 🤦🏻‍♀️). But I write sometimes. Not every day. Not most days of the week as I used to do before. But I'm still writing.
The one wip I'm actually half way through is a Hamid x MC xmas fic. I know you're thinking "but it's almost February! And Prince Hamid is Muslim!" and you're right. But Daphne is Christian, very fond of Christmas, Hamid loves a nice social gathering and finding any reason to tease his favorite girl and we do not follow the real life calendars in here, so why not?
Among the series I write, earlier this month I was working on Meant To Be (Desire & Decorum modern day AU) chapter... 27? (I lost count... 🙈) Anyway, I think the next two chapters will finally explain why I label it as a Soulmates AU. There's a Sinclaire and Daphne awkward scene here, a little Sinclaire x Alisha moment there... But nothing too dramatic for now.
There's also Jade and Liam's For The World to Know. Tbh I have no idea what chapter I am (I'm getting super lazy on this because Tumblr and AO3 count the chapters automatically for me 😅). They're just a couple of weeks away from the wedding, they're getting joint a bachelor and bachelorette party, there's some heart to heart talk with Hana (these girls need it), Leo is joining them in Vegas (and we all know he often brings drama) and there's Drake situation to be solved. I'm close to reaching the end of FTWTK and I wish I could really start Happily Ever After (instead of just posting a few one shots of them married) because I've been daydreaming about the plot for years (the story will be soooooo good, ugh!), but I don't know... If I managed to finish FTWTK (or just The Fives Stages since there's only two more chapters left), I'll take it as a win.
Last year, I also remembered I never finished my Bloodbound series. A while ago, I got a comment on AO3 from someone who wanted me to extend the series and I thought about doing it, but at this point I wouldn't know how to do it. I'd probably have to create a new plot since the one I started back then is nearly solved. But that would demand time to replay Bloodbound to find inspiration and, unluckily, that's something I don't have lately. I started planning a chapter with Adrian x OC (any Adrian stans still out there?), then I'll write one more chapter to wrap it up.
There are other Desire & Decorum AUs and a TRR AU, but I haven't touched those wips in months... I rather not make any promises regarding any of those stories for now.
Other than that, there are a few one shots planned:
A Thomas Mendez x Ayla (+ Stephanie and Luz) inspired by one of my favorite Brazilian memes and a scene of a 2010 romcom. I can't explain why I'm doing this... The muse wants what the muse wants 😂
A few ficlets (or short stories, depending on how inspired I am when I actually sit down to write) to answer some OTP asks for Hamid x Daphne and Nate x Stella (TWC). I was debating if I'd include Liam x Jade, but I might give away the plot of Happily Ever After in one of the questions, so nope 😅
When it comes to other people's stuff, I don't know... I'm not super active on Choices (or any fandom, for that matter) and I'm not familiar with most of the fandom and what people have been writing lately. I do have my faves (@missameliep @lilyoffandoms @storyofmychoices @princess-geek @noesapphic ) and they still write from time to time, but I'm not going to pester them for new fics. They have their own lives and write whenever they can. As a fan of their work, I respect their writing pace and I'm simply glad they're still here.
Thanks for the ask, anon!

Born from the Sea
Finally, after 11 years I could reach Portugal´s Day as a normal being. So! little explanation:
My headcanon is that Iberia give him birth in modern Praia dos Olhos de Agua - Costa de Caparica, near the sea, and part of it became his son. So every single year he goes to that exact place, that exact hour, and he sinks into the water, deep down the Atlantic. Makes a deep breath and then he comes out like a reborn being, gretting his mother and his father for existing. Lusitania then Portugal; the province then the kingdom then the traveller discovering the world, then the country. Some years Arthur was there; sometimes Macau, sometimes Luciano Da Silva - Brazil -, sometimes Netherlands - for me is called Abel-, sometimes Heracles and / or Kiku; but when Antonio is there, he goes with him and makes the ritual, representing a sacred baptism like John Baptist and Jesus.
I'm not catholic myself but for the Iberia christianity was essential so, I cannot imagine in other parallelism.
Elements there from lavender to the flag, the compass rose and the country's motto in the chest; the wedding ring under the water, muslim and gypsy's accesories, and the silver cross.
Hope you like it and Happy Bithday Gabriel! And happy day for all the portuguese fellas in the fandom!

The dolls of Gladeville (a re-introduction post)
I'm making this post to pin because it's been a while and my dolls' intertwining stories have since shifted. This post will only cover my modern dolls.
Tumblr media
Lexie Sarah Gilbert is 12 years old, autistic, and homeschooled by her dad this year for the first time. It's going better than school ever has. Lexie loves marine biology and mermaids and everything to do with the ocean. Her sister, Sophie Rebecca Gilbert, is 9 years old, has ADHD, and is very artistic. She attends the local elementary school. Her grades aren't amazing, but with help she keeps track of enough to learn something and pass. They moved to Gladeville at the beginning of last school year with their two dads. Their family is Jewish and they attend the local synagogue.
Tumblr media
Olive Ivy Said is Lexie's neighbor who moved into the other half of the duplex towards the end of last school year not long after they came out as nonbinary. They live with their dad, who works in a computer repair shop; their mom, who works in a wedding boutique shop; their grandmother, a retired florist; their 16-year-old sister, Alex; and their 4-year-old sister, Rosie. They are 13 and attend 8th grade at Gladeville Middle School. They love to play soccer and plan to be on the school team this year, as well as reading/drawing comics and gardening with their grandmother while listening to her stories. Their family is Muslim and their grandmother was a Libyan immigrant. They also have epilepsy, which they try and fail to just ignore and hide from friends. Although they don't go to school with Lexie and Summer, they share a yard with the Gilberts so they do become friends.
I do need to figure out how to fix their curls, but for now I'm just gonna say it's in character for them to not brush their hair every day.
Tumblr media
Summer Louise Williams is Lexie's best friend. She is also 12 and also homeschooled by Mr. Gilbert. She lives in an apartment with her mom, who is a veterinarian, and her brother Tyler, who is 20 and in college. She is eternally bothered that they can't have a dog, although she does have a pet turtle. She also regularly visits her dad, a Rabbi, who does have a dog. Summer loves all kinds of art and wants to be a famous artist someday. Her family is Jewish, but since her dad is the local rabbi she goes to shul with Lexie's family and her mom goes online. She has juvenile idiopathic arthritis, which is why she struggled so much in school she nearly failed last year and it was decided she would do well to be homeschooled too.
Tumblr media
Margaret-Joy Elliana Santos, who goes by MJ, is Summer's brand new stepsister! She is 13 years old and from Las Vegas, but after she came out as trans 2 years ago her dad decided they should move for a new start. Her mom died when she was little so she's only known life with her dad, who works in a bakery. She's always been kind of a loner, so it's weird for her to be sharing a room with Summer. She's very hard of hearing (I'll get her a hearing aid at some point) and is most comfortable speaking in ASL but does speak out loud too. Because Summer is homeschooled and she has to go to school, she has two separate groups of friends. She loves to travel and write logs about it, as well as dance ballet, which she started young.
Tumblr media
Sariah Emami is MJ's best friend at school. They're both in 8th grade. Sariah lives with her two moms (a music teacher and an astronomer) and anywhere from one to five foster kids her moms take in for however long they're needed. She deals with intense general and social anxiety, and one way she found to deal with that was to run, which she does every morning. She also enjoys musicals and fashion design, which she thinks she might like to make a career of. Her family is Muslim, which is very important to Sariah. She's not super close with Olive but they do go to the same mosque and are in several of the same classes, so they talk sometimes.
I made her hijab out of a t-shirt from the dollar store and hemmed it to make it neat, so even though it doesn't fit perfectly I'm rather proud of it.
Tumblr media
Quinn Julius Adaire is 12 years old and in 7th grade. She has been in the foster system with her twin brother Jalen for the last 5 years. She currently lives with him and their foster mothers and their two foster sisters, including Sariah. Quinn has an unspecified form of ataxia that is not progressive but does severely affect her balance and coordination. More than anything, she loves music and she wants to learn to play guitar despite her coordination struggles. She also enjoys reading dystopian fiction. Her brother prefers baseball and cheesy old movies. They don't have too much in common, but they're really close and protective of each other. They just moved into this foster home at the beginning of the summer, so she's starting a new school away from her one best friend (see below).
Tumblr media
Calanthe Isabel Edwin, who goes by Cala, is 9 years old and Sophie's best friend. She only moved into this foster home, her second ever, a week before school started and it wasn't easy to adjust. All 3 of her foster siblings are nice, but they're also all much older than than. Her foster moms take good care of her, but they're nothing like her real mom, who she still gets to visit and hopes she can go back to live with soon. Cala likes Pokémon, singing, and horses. She collects toy horses and wants to ride a real one someday. She's kind of quiet but nice and the first person Sophie was able to make a real friendship with. Sophie was also the first kid who seemed to get her and could have fun or be sensitive.
Tumblr media
Joslyn Amelia Kipp, who goes by Jossy, is 12 years old and Quinn's best friend. She does not actually live in Gladeville but in a smaller town just outside it. She lived down the street from Quinn's last foster home. She lives with her dad, who is a veterinarian at the same clinic as Summer's mom, her mom, and her aunt, both of whom own and operate the small bookstore that they live above. She works in the bookstore and often runs dnd games for her school friends that she writes herself. She's dyslexic and discalculaic, so she has trouble in school, but she loves to learn from podcasts. She even runs her own about their dnd group. She wants to write and direct movies one day. Her family is a member of the local tribe (I have one in mind but it's redacted for location purposes) but they live in a town near rather than actually on the reservation.
Tumblr media
Miko Fukiyama is 13 years old and in 8th grade at Gladeville Middle School. She isn't direct friends with my other dolls but she does see them sometimes. She is autistic and nonverbal with her service dog, Inky Cap. She loves mushrooms, space aliens, and baking with her grandmother. She lives with her grandmother, who is a kindergarten teacher, and her grandfather, who is a glass blower. She never knew her dad and her mom lives in Europe and drops in to visit every year or two. Miko does actually have friends at school, I just don't have dolls for them.
Tumblr media
And finally, Persephone November Ellison. She is older than my other dolls, 16 and in high school, but she does live across the street from the Emamis and sometimes babysit their younger foster kids. She has lived for the last year and a half with her aunt, who is an accountant; her uncle, who works in a local corner store, and twin cousins 3 years younger than her. Her mother hasn't spoken to her since she came out as trans. She was already living with her father, but he is an archeologist working all over the world, so he eventually decided she should get the chance to go to a normal school and have stability and sent her to his sister. Her mother is white and her father and his family are Indian. Persephone loves sewing and making costumes as well as altering her clothes to be more interesting and drawing pretty designs on herself. She loves going to Ren Faires and doing weird loud things like wearing fairy wings to school. She also likes to design and draw her own characters, complete with backstories. She misses her dad, but she writes to him a lot and calls him when she can. Her aunt and uncle aren't always sure what to do with her loud out there personality, but they love her and try to support her. She's dyspraxic and a lot of the time it seems like too small a thing to bother bringing up, but it does affect her life.

The Legends of St. James the Greater [citation needed]
Because I'm doing the Camino de Santiago next spring, I've been reading stuff about St. James the Greater, because the stories around him are why the Camino exists in the first place.
And, oh my god, they're Something Else. Because nearly everything I read is either 1. extremely unlikely 2. kinda wince-inducing. at best.
I want to make it clear: I don't think it matters, at this point, how much of his post-Biblical legends are factually true, in regards to walking the Camino. People have been making sincere pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela for so long that bits of him might as well be there, yeah? It's became a sacred place devoted to one of the first of Jesus' apostles whether his actual bones are there or not. Also, quite frankly, many of the legends aren't any more or less believable than anything in the Gospels themselves. Disclaimer over.
Things that were recorded soon enough after they supposedly happened that they are the likeliest to be true:
He was one of the first apostles of Jesus, along with his brother John. The two brothers (plus Peter) were witnesses to some of the more notable parts of Jesus' life and ministry. He was also the first apostle to be martyred; beheaded by sword on the order of Herod in 44 AD. (His beheading is in Acts 12:2, just one sentence: "He [Herod] had James, the brother of John, killed with the sword.")
After that...things get...weird.
Legend has it that he traveled all the way to what is modern-day Spain to preach the Gospel there, and that after he came back to Jerusalem and was beheaded, his body was miraculously taken by angels and set in a boat that washed up on the coast of Spain. During a wedding. Which spooked a horse and rider. Who fell into the ocean. And then emerged miraculously unharmed and covered in scallop shells...and that's part of why scallop shells are symbols of St. James and pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Yeah, okay.
Tumblr media
"Oh thank God, I'm not lost." And yes, lots of people get some variation of this as a tattoo. (I know I probably will, ahaha.)
(That all said: there's an Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in Jerusalem that claims to have his head. So maybe the angels only took the rest of him. Who knows? Not me.)
At some point his relics were moved to the location of what is now Santiago de Compostela by some disciples of his (from his earlier visit to Spain? I think?), and the fact that the relics were there was revealed to a hermit by a field of stars in 814. He reported this to a bishop, who told the local king, who built a chapel on that site and is said to be the first pilgrim to Santiago. The chapel became a church in 829, the church was burned down by the Moors in 997, and in 1075 the king started building a cathedral there (it was finished in 1211). In the 900's pilgrims started arriving from all over Europe, and once the cathedral got started their numbers increased dramatically. Both St. Francis of Assisi and Margery Kempe did pilgrimages to Santiago, for instance. Margery did it multiple times, bless her.
But here's the thing: somehow nobody noticed the whole "his body is in Spain" thing until that hermit? And just coincidentally, this was a time when the Catholic church was trying to stamp out the remnants of a particularly popular heresy that had started in Spain. Just saying.
But wait, there's more!
Another thing that was happening in the 800's and for, y'know, a LONG time after (seriously it went on from 711 to 1492); was Christians and Muslim Moors fighting over Spain.
The Christians of Spain named St. James as their patron and protector, in part due his miraculous help in a battle that, uh, never actually happened. The date of the battle is given as 843 or 844, but somehow was never recorded until 300 years later. (Are you sensing a theme here, because I am.)
St. James is therefore sometimes portrayed as Santiago Matamoros, aka St. James the Moor-Slayer. A lot of medieval imagery of him portrays him on horseback, slaughtering people. 😬 Many of the old churches along the Camino include this portrayal--and some of those churches were originally mosques. Oof.
CAN IT GET WORSE? YES.
Look, I'm just going to copy/paste from the wikipedia page on this one: "The iconography of James Matamoros was used in the Spanish colonization of the Americas as a rival force to the indigenous gods, and protector of Spaniards from the indigenous peoples of the Americas. He was depicted as a conquistador."
I mean, thankfully; I won't run into much of that in Spain. But...euggghh.
Anyway.
I kinda feel bad for the actual James, who was just a fisherman working with his dad and brother before becoming one of Jesus' close friends. James was just A Guy! The other apostles apparently found him and his brother kind of annoying! He sometimes had a bad temper! The stories about him in the Gospels just make him sound so human.
There are two common portrayals of our man James all over the Camino: St. James the Moor-Slayer, and St. James as a pilgrim, wearing a floppy hat and robe and holding a walking stick. Much nicer.
Tumblr media
Now that's a guy I'd walk across Spain for.

sarzin "buckwheat"
sarzin /sarˈzɪn/ [sɐːˈzɪn] - (obsolete) Muslim, Saracen, a person who is a follower of Islam; - (archaic or dialect) non-Christian, pagan, practioner of a religion other than Christianity and especially one performing practices associated with pre-Christian peoples or peoples not yet exposed to Christianity; - (historical) cairn, a conical heap of stones placed by the pre-Roman Kelt people around Borland or a modern such heap resembling these; - (historical, by extension) milestone, a pillar or pile of stones placed at the side of a road to mark distance; - buckwheat, an originally Asian plant whose fruit is widely used in cooking as a pseudocereal
Etymology: in its only surviving modern sense, a clipping of the earlier bla sarzin "Saracen wheat" which is first attested in the fifteenth century, in reference to its eastern origin (the plant having been brought to Europe via the Turkish Riyalid Sultanate or possibly via Russian Cazany).
Likewise, in the senses "cairn, milestone" it is a clipping of pieðr sarzin "Saracen stones", from the perception that these piles of stones were pre-Christian monuments to pagan gods.
The word itself is a borrowing from Old French sarrazin "Muslim, Saracen" reflecting Late Latin Saracēnus and Ancient Greek Σᾰρᾰκηνός (Sarakēnós). These originally referred to an Arabic or para-Arabic people of North Arabia.

excerpt from The Delicious Story of Dough and Oil, a work of popular history detailing the history of many related foods across the globe. Published (originally in Mojarick as Tésta Olaivan Vláxerte "A World of Dough in Oil") in 1963 by first-time writer and famed chef Shomoji Taxon, who in his later years would go on to present the first cooking programme shown simultaneously on both sides of the Atlantic.
…see its eastern origins by its names in the languages of Europe—whether in Horther møurick ("Moorish wheat") or Bavarn creshke (originally from a Russian word meaning "Greek"). Nonetheless, sarzin [buckwheat] flour has since its introduction become a key component of diets across the continent.
