it occurred to me recently that maybe the reason we don't see counselors assigned to ships in the tos/snw era is because the loss of life/ship/colony/planet and subsequent mental health crisis following the federation/klingon war was so bad, spreading the remaining counselors so thin, that it took until the 24th century to recover.

#i mean there were only like four admirals left after everything #disco's the only thing that keeps whole colonies from being wiped out #hell starbase one was lost when disco disappeared #but we know that counselors are still around in snw era #even if they're not on the ship #so maybe everyone's just stationed on the ground #we've already got zoom counseling #why not in the future?#star trek
