I dont know how much it helps with the not wanting to kill yourself part, since it does require reading the the job listing over and over again but for you and anyone else that might need it; I translated the template I used for my cover letters into English! (the base was German for context) it's kinda long so I'll put it under a read more
Dear [Name or hiring manager if you really cannot find a name anywhere]
On [place where you found the position] I found your open position for [x] and wanted to apply immediately. [sentence about your general qualification (Diploma, Bachelor, past job) and maybe why you are looking for work]. Your job offer didn’t just stick out to me because of [#1 thing taken directly from the listing] and [#2 thing], aspects with which I [have experience (specify)], but also because of [#3 thing]. During my [past steps of attaining the general qualification/work experience] I learnt just how [valuable/important/rewarding #3 thing] is.
In my CV you can see [relevant projects/experience]. I worked in [team sizes] and the common thread through all of them was [something specific that still applies to the position (e.g. the way the projects were managed)] and [something general/basic that’s important to most jobs (e.g. Communication skills)]. [Feel free to put in another sentence if you can attach it to the contents/requirements of the job offer].
[If applicable; Now give info on how past qualifications make you the best fit for the roll. This is highly specific but you can make that into a nice template as well. Explain the context of your previous work and then go into detail how that helped you grow as a person. Especially soft skills which may not shine through in your CV]
But enough preamble, attached are my [CV and everything else that might boost you up. Definitely ‘proof’ the aforementioned qualifications (your grades/diploma/any kind of references from former employers)]
If you have any further queries, I’ll gladly be on hand. I’m looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
[name and last name] The first two paragraphs are deffo a must Here's what that would look like filled out based on the last position I wrote to
Dear Hiring Manager,
On LinkedIn I found your open position for a Fullstack Developer and wanted to apply immediately. Last month I finished my bachelor studies in media informatics at [not doxxing my university]. Following that, I am searching for a place to work. Your offer didn’t just jump out to me due to the usage of Java and Angular, a language and framework for which I have already gained professional experience, but also because of the focus on usability and user experience. During my studies I had to work with and evaluate many projects of other students and experienced first-hand how important user experience is for an efficient workflow.
In my CV you can see a selection of the projects I’ve worked on over the course of my studies. In teams of small as well as big sizes, the common thread through all of them was the agile management and the ever-important interpersonal communication. My internship at [not doxxing that], gave me experience with working for customers. It helped me refine an eye for details for how to implement the customers’ specifications in a precise and user-friendly manner. Likewise during my internship great value was placed on the quality of my code, therefore I am familiar with different ways of testing code to ensure functionality.
But enough preamble, attached you will find my CV, grades, and the reference of my last employer. For any remaining questions, I’ll be gladly on hand.
I’m looking forward to your reply
Sincerly,
Ænthroppe (I didnt write my name like that but can you imagine lmao)
