i truly think that the framing of sexuality as just a label that you can pick/only something you call yourself and isn't about your actual attraction is one of the most harmful ideas to happen in the community. apart from sounding a lot like "being gay is choice" which has been spouted my homophobes forever, ​it’s made so many people care more about “validating” someone’s identity than whether they’re spouting bigoted beliefs (like we have actual corrective rape/conversion therapy rhetoric being touted as progressive thinking) and has lead to so many people who aren’t xyz speaking over those who are xyz, and their words are being taken as gospel instead of listening to those who belong to the group they're talking about and even attacking and dismissing them. like people just need to accept that not everything is for them or about them, we have these distinctions for a reason. and taking these distinctions away takes away spaces and the language to describe harm that people of different groups face
