#we're covering greek tragedies in my english lit class so hadestown has been on my mind a lot

so i was thinking about hadestown (again) and i realized something

after Orpheus turns around, and after the final "its you, its me", HE DOESN'T SING HER NAME. But, Eurydice sings Orpheus's name.

there's just so much to be said about that i just don't know how to put into words. it's so poetically tragic.

Up until now her name's always been a melody. but the melody's gone. the song's over and it didn't turn out this time. just like how in Doubt Comes In, the chorus fails to repeat Orpheus' song, but the entire time, unheard by him, Eurydice had been singing his name.
