Jonathan Byers and Nancy Wheeler have been best friends since she saved him from Tommy H's bullying in kindergarten. Nancy has never cared what people think about her being best friends with the alleged town freak, or that Jonathan would rather look through his camera than look at her, she likes being one of the few people he talks to. But the cliché gossip that she's too bossy and a priss is starting to wear her down. Jonathan tries not to care too much about Nancy’s poor choices in music, and how she's always right, he’s perfectly happy sitting in silence with her. She understands him and he understands her. But he can't stand to see someone badmouth her because she's nice to him. Both of them are determined to finish high school as soon as possible and leave behind the petty rumors of Hawkins for life in the big city. And while Jonathan's had a crush on her since the snowball of 1981 he's never said anything. But things have been a bit more complicated since Nancy kissed Jonathan last Christmas at the Wheeler's annual party. Now in their sophomore year, Nancy has caught the eye of the most popular boy in school leaving Jonathan to once again squash down his feelings for Nancy's happiness. To make matters worse Jonathan's brother is missing and a few days later their friend Barb has vanished too. With no other options it's up to Nancy and Jonathan to find out what's happening underneath their boring small town and maybe resolve some tension along the way.
