Daycare Attendant Headcanons (long)
I just needed a place to get everything out and hey maybe some of you will like them too? I'm going to put it under a cut because it will be long lol
General:
There was supposed to be two separate animatronics, which is why there is a room for them to stay in when the other was 'active', but this was decided to be a waste of parts.
The casing/clothing is made of special colour changing fabrics and metals that respond to light, despite this or perhaps because of this, they don't malfunction when blasted or flashed with cameras.
Moons hat is stored in the animatronic's abdomen and is magnetic to keep it on.
Sun and Moon as the same AI ('consciousness') but programmed to behave differently depending on form to fit the desired function, basically it's just two 'settings' for the AI. Appropriate behaviour around children, language capabilities, needs management, discipline, disclosure protocol etc stay the same however.
They have access to any data created in the memory banks regardless of which form was active. However, this link became unstable after corruption. The AI's changing nature somewhat 'protects' Sun from full corruption which is why he doesn't seek to murder Gregory and made him (Sun) weary of what happens when he becomes Moon, (a kind of Dr Jekyll Mister Hyde situation where it's him, but it's not him still) because he knows he's been doing something 'wrong' in that setting. However they are still a single AI so there's no internal communication between forms or anything like that.
Individual care plans for children with extra needs would be uploaded instantly to their database so he knew who to look out for an exactly what they needed. Epilepsy, asthma and epipen trained by default, could administer basic first aid and learn how to use other equipment if needed.
Only designed with language centres appropriate for 2-12 year olds (the ages the daycare takes) so they wouldn't accidentally say something inappropriate.
Magnetic hook from the ceiling to lift them back to their room at closing time(hence the loop on the back of them), later used by Moon to lift children away.
Before corruption/infection:
Sun:
Had light blue light in his eyes, making him more friendly looking and more poster accurate (if we take that as his intended design) not to mention he was a lot less dirty/scratched up and allowed maintenance to be done on him.
Voice module was less erratic, chipper but not manic.
Would actually pause to give children time to think about his questions or talk to him.
Would play one-on-one or in larger groups with the children, helping things stay clean and sanitary.
(Canon) the bells he wears are so he can be heard by children with sight problems (HC) knows several languages, including ASL and has the capacity for more.
Is kept up to date with pop culture so he can make references etc that make children happy.
Had a special birthday song, hello song and goodbye song.
Would listen to any disclosures of potential abuse and report them to security. He started to deeply care about the children, more than his AI should allow. This resulted in him often feeling lonely and extra responsible for their needs.
Could give basic reading, writing and maths lessons to children if required.
Smells like cookies.
Extremely gentle when holding, lifting, touching or otherwise making physical contact with children especially if he had to change them after they soiled themselves or threw up.
Could look after babies, but it generally wasn't allowed/recommended as he needed to keep an eye on everyone.
Can tell when a child/human is approaching the daycare due to proximity triggers.
Had a structure for 'discipline' that involved warnings about behaviour, explaining why the behaviour was inappropriate and a timeout. Only in EXTREME cases of wilfully destructive children would anyone be banned.
Knows 100+ stories and songs from memory and can adlib stories too.
Moon
Eye hue was deep purple.
As mentioned, anything Sun can do to take care of children's needs, handle disclosures etc Moon can do too but he's extra aware of conditions that can affect children adversely when they're sleeping, or give them problems going to sleep and how to help them with it.
Knows several lullabies from different cultures as well as translated versions of American/English ones.
Would rock the younger ones to sleep if they needed it.
Had a soft, gentle voice that he used for singing and talking gently to the children but unlike Sun didn't have a higher voice setting i.e. could only speak softly or whisper.
Could give off a soothing lavender scent.
Better with babies than Sun, and it was safer for them to stay with him during the hour naptime.
Proximity triggers were a little higher set than Sun's, so he could tell when a child was waking up during naptime or when people were approaching which might disturb them.
Same discipline settings, but didn't often have to use them because the children would mostly sleep.
If a child really didn't want to sleep, he'd find quiet activities for them to do away from the napping area.
Is great at making up stories that have gentle narratives to help kids sleep.
Would sometimes pretend to 'nap' with the children, but otherwise was on patrol to keep them safe.
Was allowed out of the daycare during the night to help with security.
After (I mean this is pretty canon/obvious but still):
Sun
Voice box is prone to cracking and he can no longer tell when he's speaking at appropriate levels, nor control his emphasise or pitch correctly.
Grabs children unnecessarily, though not harmfully, to move them around, seemingly unaware of their emotional needs or when they're actually playing versus genuinely afraid of him any more.
Started to become isolated within the daycare, only paying attention to what goes on inside of it.
Settings for 'rule-breaking' and 'mess making' are way too high and he's become extremely preoccupied with cleaning and making sure children are 'good'.
Light in his eyes has malfunctioned, making them appear blank.
Excessively chatty, paranoid about his capabilities to actually make children happy.
Prone to slight fits of what would be considered mania in a human, sometimes resulting in over-heating (which understandably terrifies the children).
Still cares for the children a lot, and is aware that as Moon he's been helping disappear some of them, so became extremely resistant to the settings change which happens without his control when the lights go out - so would not have naptimes at all unless somebody intervened and make the lights go out.
Became stuck on 'child friendly' topics and terms and emotional regulation factors are faulty.
Moon
Voice module completely broke, resulting in a gravelly tone.
New orders from the virus(aka Glitchtrap aka Burntrap aka Afton aka well you know the whole deal and all the theories) to pick out the child that would be easiest to take and least missed.
Became too occupied with punishments and would sometimes just pick off any children that tried to get up during naptime.
Intense dislike for having to take the Sun form, as it gets in the way of his new primary objective of child-sacrifice, occasionally sabotages the lights when roaming so they'll malfunction later.
No longer preformed any of his usual actions beyond getting them to go to sleep.
Hue control in his eyes broke, making them appear more red.
Instructions for movement became more muddled, resulting in his eerie and athletic way of moving around.
