No tents to be allowed in Gulmarg without permission: Officials

Citing environmental concerns and illegal activities, the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday announced that no tents will be allowed in the popular tourist resort without proper permission.

Gulmarg Development Authority CEO Waseem Raja, in a communique, said that to protect the eco-fragile zone of Gulmarg and maintain its status as a world-famous tourist destination, the installation of tents will now require prior permission from the authority.

BJP is doing nothing on the ground : says ex-leader after resigning from the party’s Kashmir wing

Putrajaya, 21 July 2020: The Kashmir wing of the Indian Hindutva Nationalist Party, BJP, is witnessing a dropout of its members after the recent killing of a BJP leader, Waseem Bari, along with his two relatives.   

Bari, who perished in the attack with his father, brother, has set off alarms in the valley as the resigning members are accusing the party of not providing them ���enough security”.

Mubeena Bano, a social activist was among the first wave of those sending resignations. 

She has told the media, “ I had joined BJP to resolve the issues of people. But nothing is being done on the ground so I resigned from the BJP.”

On July 11, Marouf Bhat, the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), also handed in his resignation letter.

Bhat has said, “I hereby resign from the BJYM as a member and any post I held as part of it. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for the party.”

Voicing his concerns, Bhat added, “We can sacrifice our lives for the nation, but not of our children. I have been attacked twice in the past, yet nothing has been done about it.”

Asif Ahmed, BJP’s Vice President from Kupwawa, was the next to resign. 

“I am from a well off family. I did not join BJP to make money but to work for my people. But we are not allowed to work by officials. BJP has no value on the ground. Officials are not bothered to listen to us and address issues of people,” Ahmed told the media. 

“The idea of representing Delhi is a problem,” said Yashraj Sharma, a writer on the magazine Kashmir Walla, while discussing the issue of BJP dropouts in the valley, noting the fact that BJP or parties who are perceived to be affiliated with the Indian interest do not receive popularity or support in Kashmir. 

The party has blamed militants for Waseem Bari’s killings.
