Hi hi hello may I perhaps have some tunes for A Modern Ghost Story,,, I've been restructuring the plot a little lately but the current vibes are:

A group of semi-Internet famous ghost hunters find their first genuine proof of paranormal activity when they discover the existence of beings known as void-walkers, immortal humans with supernatural abilities. This discovery very quickly leads them down a rabbithole they never could've imagined, full of murder, mystery, and a whole lot of ghosts, both living and dead.

I love music and character building so I have a good amount of songs for my cabbages. The beefy playlist I have is for the canon story for Riag and Trahearne that I am working. So I just plucked some out that specifically remind me of just Riag. And then will cherry pick a few songs that remind me of them together :)

Fun fact, Riag is one of my newer cabbages. His development really started half way into HoT, so most of the time I’ve spent with him is during that expansion. Which hopefully explains why that’s primary the time the songs are set around.

Stubborn Man - The Antlers

Riag is stubborn as all hells. Sometimes it works to his advantage, by digging in his heels and refusing to go along with a plan that he has a gut feeling won’t work. A lot of the time it’s just frustrating. He tends to think his idea on how things should go is the only correct one. This trait has gotten a little softer in his retirement, but it’s still lurking.

Let’s Hope We Make It Out Alive - Sioum

Dark, heavy instrumentals makes me think of when he was Commander and always putting himself on the front line. He solves issues by throwing himself at them and hoping for the best. I would place this on his timeline right before HoT. Mainly just a vibe to start with.

Foreign Bodies - Lucy Swann

Fighting with Mordemoth’s influence. He didn’t have as hard of time with it as many just because, he doesn’t listen to any ideas other than his own (and maybe Trahearnes). A lot of his inner dialogue with the big dragon wanker was just ‘are you stupid? what kind of an idea is that.’ Still was by no means pleasant and was distracting him at times.

Plans We Made - Son Lux

This one is the big ouch. This is smack at the end of HoT with all of the ouch that contains. I feel like it conveys the two conflicting emotions he had during the situation well while also just being a kick in the feels.

The End of All Our Exploring - Max Richter

A sprinkle of somber piano for good measure. Riaghael’s recovery period was not kind or quick. Having been so set in his ways and thoughts and then having all of them basically taken out from under him was not easy.  Ruby took over position of Commander, but also helped him through some of his darker moments. I don’t how (or if) he would have gotten through it if she hadn’t stepped in for him and helped.

Dreamer - Low Roar

If there was only one song that I could have for Riag, it would be this one. I feel like it’s the right blend of nostalgic and melancholy. It’s perfect for post HoT Riag, who is freshly retired in the Grove, working to recover from his injuries (both emotional and physical).

What Time Taught Us - The Dear Hunter

Riag’s reflection after he has more or less recovered. Realizing that he has to sort of rediscover who he is beyond a role, a job, and an identity as problem solver. It sort of shook him in all ways to lose his lover, his identity, and his main method of solving problems (fighting). But, realizing that he has to be alive for some reason, now he has time to figure out what he wants to be. Instead of what others needed him to be.

Bonus: Here are some of my favorites for Riaghael and Trahearne’s relationship. Primarily following their canon story, in which Trahearne is alive (sort of - reborn would be closer). I might post the full one later, with the link to the story.

Gentle- Low

Riag doesn’t buy that he’s alive for a second, he thinks it a trap and he is furious about it. This sort of really catches Trahearne off guard because he was expecting him to be happy and welcoming but instead got hostility, bitterness, and anger. I can’t really blame Riag, with the amount of questionable magic that goes on due to dragons or lich types, I wouldn’t trust it either. But eventually and with the involvement of Ruby - Riaghael at least hears him out for a moment. It doesn’t fix anything right there but it’s the start of it.

Swaying Trees - Takénobu

Riag trying to see where their relationship is at currently, while they are out in nature having a heart to heart. Also it’s just cute idk what else to say about it.

Lost in You - Phillip Larue

Trahearne’s perspective on them after they reconcile.

It’s funny, I heard this a little while back on my Spotify Discover Weekly and I immediately loved it and thought it worked for a CR character, but couldn’t figure out which one. I like it for Caleb, with the “foreign bodies” being either residuum or his trauma:
