I watched with worry from Maryland as Youngkin won, but gradually I realized he wasn't able to ruin things too much because of how little support he got.

For trump supporters:
I hope you have loved ones that are poc. That are queer. That are trans. That are disabled. That are immigrants. That identify as women.
I hope you love them and they love you. And I hope you lose them.
I don’t want anything bad to happen to them. I want them to be okay and happy and thriving away from you. But I deeply hope you lose them. I truly don’t think you’ll learn otherwise.

i mean, we knew this. but the fact that i’ve seen dozens and dozens of post focusing on queer ppl and telling queer ppl to take care of themselves and queer ppl that it’ll be ok and queer ppl to not kill themselves (which, not saying not to make those posts or that those posts are bad), and not a single, single post* checking in on or showing compassion to Black people, undocumented people and other immigrants, brown people, Muslims, Jews, or other religious minorities — basically, any and all POC in general** — is truly, truly emblematic of what we have known all along: white people fundamentally do not see oppression if it is not happening to them.
*the one or two exceptions were posts i saw before the elections, reminding Black&brown folks to stay safe (bc regardless of outcome, racist hate crimes spike around elections!), and the OPs of those were, predictably, themselves Black or brown.
**QTPOC of course exist. we exist especially at the most dangerous intersections of this violence & horrid effects to our health, mental and physical. but it is frequently clear when ppl make posts like this and consider none of the harm which we are subject to, only that which also affects them.
it does not occur to you to show compassion to us. it does not occur to you to show solidarity with us. it does not occur to you that we are in danger, and have been in far more danger than you, regardless of which color they slap on the white house. it does not occur to you that when you talk about violence against queer people, the vast majority of that violence will fall upon queer and trans POC, especially Black queer people. it does not occur to you that QTPOC exist at all, except when we can be used as a hypothetical argument.
white queer people are white before they are queer. white trans people are white before they are trans. white women are white before they are women. they are disappointed in the status quo only when it stops supporting them. they are aghast and appalled when they are treated like those people. they are shocked and disappointed when suddenly their whiteness no longer insulates them from being treated the way the rest of us are treated. baldwin of course said it first and best:
I think white gay people feel cheated because they were born, in principle, into a society in which they were supposed to be safe. The anomaly of their sexuality puts them in danger, unexpectedly. Their reaction seems to me in direct proportion to the sense of feeling cheated of the advantages which accrue to white people in a white society. There's an element, it has always seemed to me, of bewilderment and complaint.
white queer people, white people in the imperial core, are experiencing a fraction of the dread and violence that everyone else has been subjected to for years. you are afraid, rightfully so. but in your fear and your rage and whatever else, you do not look to those of us who have been fighting this violence for years. you do not offer us compassion and care the way you do with white ppl. you, of course, fall back on your whiteness.
again, none of this is new. we know this. we’ve known this. but it is frustrating nonetheless.
it does not occur to you that we are in danger. that we are dying. that we are being killed. it does not occur to you to to offer us the same hotlines and resources and reassurances and kindness and compassion.
keeping rbs on for now but if people start being weird i’m turning them off. don’t put words in my mouth. don’t say i said something i didn’t. i meant what i said and nothing else.

HELLO THIS IS YET AGAIN ANOTHER REMINDER TO VOTE FOR EUROPEAN ELECTIONS
"AND WHY THE F---- SHOULD I???" Edition
Because the EU has a meh to fucking excellent track record on the following topics and can do good work if you send the right people there:
Data privacy
Queer rights
Women's rights
Culture and Education
Green policies (I know, I KNOW, but still)
Consumer's rights
Food safety
And it's got a shit track records on the following that will keep on getting worse if you do NOT vote:
Immigration and asylum
Authoritarianism and democratic backslide
Fiscal policies
Lack of democratic input
Because you may not be sure if it's worthy it, but we know exactly WHO will be VERY motivated to go vote, and they are not exactly putting a green ballot in the box.

This is the only thing I'm going to say about the election until it's over:
Anyone who did not vote for Harris or who attempted to dissuade people from voting for Harris, you are indirectly responsible for whatever shit Donald Trump does if he gets elected. That blood is primarily on his hands, yes. But it is also on yours. I hope you can live with that because I sure as hell wouldn't be able to.
#'but gaza' trump wants TO OBLITERATE THEM. HE LITERALLY WANTS THERE TO BE NOTHING LEFT OF GAZA AT ALL. WHY DO YOU THINK#I DON'T WANT HIM IN POWER?????#yeah I said I wouldn't election post I lied sorry.#I know most of you don't actually care what happens to american citizens because we're all Violent Hypocrites who should kill ourselves#and somehow every single civilian is responsible for the actions of a military and government that comparatively few of us are actually par#of but FUCKING HELL. You don't care about THE PEOPLE OF GAZA??? Because that's what you're telling me if you're in favor of#doing anything OTHER than the most likely path to get trump out of politics. which is voting for the candidate DIRECTLY OPPOSING HIM.#the thing about america being an empire that needs to die. is that before it dies. it is still affecting the rest of the world.#I can't make you care about me and my loved ones. but I am IMPLORING you to have some fucking compassion for all the people#who are going to be DEEPLY negatively affected elsewhere if trump gets into power.#THEIR HARM. THEIR DEATHS. ARE ON /YOU/ IF YOU DID ANYTHING TO FACILITATE TRUMP'S VICTORY IF THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS.#I don't believe most of you actually have any amount of the sympathy and compassion for others you claim to have.#I don't think any of the causes you throw yourself behind are actually meaningful to you. I don't think any of this is based on a#genuine desire to build a better world. I think you just want your Internet friends to think you are a Good Person.#if I see anyone. ANYONE. acting like a trump presidency is what we 'deserve'. or that it's necessary to 'teach [xyz] a lesson'#I am NEVER speaking to you again I don't care how long I've known you.#us politics#I am a disabled queer woman. almost everybody I love is also disabled and queer. you think we're acceptable collateral damage fine.#but don't cry that I'm being a bitch if I say that that makes me not trust you and not want to have anything to do with you.

"oh they both support genocide I'm not voting idc what happens to my rights" cool but it's not just your rights it's my fucking life. it's the lives of every disabled person, every queer person, every person of color, every poor person, every jew, every muslim, every single person who does not fit the white nationalist capitalist ideal. trying to survive as a disabled trans person is hard enough and I'm white!!! there are axies of oppression that do not apply to me and let me tell you I only barely survived the first trump term. I'd probably survive a second one, but a lot of people won't. A lot of people didn't survive the first one.
I don't know how to tell you that you should care about other people

In light of what is about to happen, I would just like to send a very heartfelt
JESUSCHRISTWHATISWRONGWITHYOU,YOUCOWARDS
To all of you, so called liberals, who decided not to vote.
Your cowardice spoke volumes.
"Oh, I could not possibly vote for Harris, what about Palestine"
Trump will be worse for Gaza, guaranteed.
"Harris does not support trans people"
Trump will be worse for LGBTQ rights, guaranteed.
"Democrats did not make abortion into law"
Trump is ALREADY worse for women's reproductive rights.
You decided to show how disappointed you are with the Democratic party by letting the Republicans win? Then you chose to condemn people with your inaction.
"How could the good people of X conflict/genocide/tragedy let that happen??"
Like this. Exactly like this.

Minecraft fans talk about the mob votes line they're the US elections.
"Yeah, I don't know ow if I'm voting this year, I just don't see it right to choose the best out of 3 bad options that we know nothing about."
"If you vote for the penguin/alley/coppergolem IMAGINE ALL THE WAYS WE COULD IMPROVE TRAVEL AND RED STONE."
"The snifer/moobloom/glare/crab improve quality of life, and make your homes better!!"
"Yes, but mobs like the armadillo could offer protection to those you care about!!"

it amazes me how a felon who was impeached TWICE won. someone who is a known sex offender, a racist and is known for being homophobic won this year. SOMEONE who literally made his own bible for his own benefit, which is literally blasphemous by the way! i swear people in this country have ZERO empathy. i don’t care, if you voted for trump for a better economy over voting for basic human rights i fucking hate you.

I held off on saying any of this before, because I figured scolding and shaming doesn't actually get anyone to the polls but apparently neither does anything else and I am so angry. Angry and grieving, because the majority of voters have said this country hates black women more than the promise of fascism. To everyone who couldn't bear to sacrifice their so called moral purity and fucking vote, all I say is it is so disrespectful. It is disrespectful to all of the people who fucking died to get this right expanded to all adult citizens and to have those rights enshrined in the constitution. It is so disrespectful to everyone who fucking died to actually make those constitutionally enshrined rights accessible. And that's not hyperbole. That's historical fact. People who chose not to vote, who looked at these two candidates and said well I just can't do it because of a conflict happening on the other side of the world, a conflict that will be so much worse when one of those candidates wants to wipe the very people you claim to care about out of fucking existence. And I haven't posted anything about that conflict because I have literally studied it academically. It was a large part of my academic focus. And like it or not it is complicated and long-standing and literally any sort of international pact/truce/treaty takes so much negotiating and so much framework. Policy is work. You can't just wish it done and make it so.
And literally all you had to do was vote. The easiest fucking way to make your voice heard. Especially in states with early voting and mail-in ballots. You just have to show up. But voting isn't as important as getting your internet moral purity points. And now here we are staring down the barrel of another trump presidency because you can donate your money to fundraisers that may or may not be supporting real families in Gaza but you can't take some time to fill in a box and now the single issue you purportedly care so much about is going to be a casualty of that moral failing.
Because that's what it is. It's a moral failing. And I think with the loud anti-semitism heard in all of these protests and the fact that apparently you hate fascism less than black women. And a well-educated black woman with an astounding political background and policy that would have been good internationally and domestically. Maybe we should call it what it is. Sugar-coated white supremacy.
I don't know. I am so fucking angry and I am so fucking tired. I was there in 2016. I’ve been here living with the fallout. I know what it is to be directly affected by the Trump presidency. I haven't forgotten.
All you had to do was vote.
