Garmin Forerunner 945 audit
Instead of offering a customer experience, Garmin Watches are about conveying comprehension to those committed to wellness worried. Garmin wristwear may in Garmin Foreunner 945  way take a touch of getting use to since there are a lot of settings and highlights to work your way through and following that without a touch screen, acing the grabs work can be testing. The Latest leader Forerunner model is no special case, After you have to grips together with the usefulness, it will demonstrate an amazing workout ally for anyone genuine about biking, jogging or swimming while at precisely the same time offering some clever smartwatch rudiments.Additionally, while it will not be the prettiest smartwatch Out there, it's about as close as you'll reach some wrist-based wellness partner that is definitive.
Construction: SAME OLD:
The great thing about Garmin Forerunner watches would be They are not and focused at the health devotee way of lifestyle buyers, they are planned over, well, looking beautiful. They're not likely to make you the envy One of your companions. If your companions are usually preparing for marathons, except. The equivalent goes to your Forerunner 945. It is an all-dark Structure that looks indistinguishable from the Forerunner 935 that preceded it. It has comparable measurements, 1.2in shading display and fiber-strengthened plastic plastic casing. The perceptible distinction is the catches are all the greater a firearm metal shading rather than silver.
What is happening within is an story, nonetheless. Yet, More on this later:
Contrasted with the Garmin's all the more very good quality Fenix 5 Plus smartwatch, the Forerunner 945 has the equivalent outside measurements but is 2.1mm slimmer, just as being a really robust 36g lighter at only 50g (due to the plastic plan), which really has any sort of influence on the wrist. With Regard to the tie, it's a silicone QuickFit-skilled 22mm offering, and is overly stretchy, making the Forerunner 945 feel completely good about the wrist and also in this way sufficient to wear each second of each day.A circle configuration that is scored also keeps the dramatic Finish setup, with a silicone ring which has different openings all that is.Not like Garmin's more purchaser well disposed Smartwatch, the Vivoactive 3 Music, the Forerunner 945 is controlled completely utilizing catches rather than a touchscreen. It's a sport watch that is straightforward that is genuine.Catch control functions admirably destroying any Unintentional directions that may happen with jelqing thumbs. The catches are metal so do not destroy the Garmin Forerunner 945's water resistance. It's assessed to 5 ATM, which carries out the obligation for swimmingpool. Regardless of the fact FYI, the Fenix 5 Plus goes further with 10 ATM obstruction. So Far as display, some may be baffled, Particularly if looking at it any semblance of Fitbit's energetic direct watch, the Ionic, for example. The screen comprises a pixel objects bested to create it hard.
While this dull shading LCD has gap that is more horrible Than your usual smartwatch, the upside is that it barely uses any electricity so brings about executioner battery lifetime, an additional way by which the Forerunner penances execution over design.Another favorable here is that the screen gets clear As surrounding mild increments, so on the off likelihood that you are fortunate enough to keep running in an unusual bright day, at that point there is no stress of not seeing the presentation. In the case of conducting during the day press on the Light catch on the upper left side to start up the front light, which is minimal like the light of a good Casio complex watch.ou can not expect the Forerunner 945's display Apple Watch, however you can expect that it must last one serious part longer between charges. As far as improvements over the Forerunner 935, the 945 has available music financing such as spilling administrations Deezer along with Spotify, just as reconciliation of Garmin Pay (at last). You'll additionally discover a pulse oximeter, branded with Garmin as'Heartbeat Ox4', which enables clients to comprehend how well their body is ventilated oxygen. There is additionally stress after, incident recognition, which sends a robotized SMS and email with your title and GPS place to your emergency contacts, and the new Elevate HR sensor, which uses Garmin's very own restrictive optical-based heartbeat detector innovation.Another new component that we like is the integrated Wi-Fi Radio, which means that your motion information is going to be paired up to your Garmin Connect account when you return to a newly hosted Wi-Fi zone. It is decent to have your info naturally matched up on your Garmin account if you appear residence. This produces the audio institution quickly and simple. For battery life, Garmin claims the Forerunner 945 will maintain Going for provided about fourteen times in smartwatch manner, as long as 36 hours at GPS mode, and as long as ten hours in GPS manner with music playing. As far as we can tell, these cases to be for the most part exact. Nobody that is albeit only uses 1 element. We found the opinion kept going a little more than seven days using every one of those highlights sporadically, exercising for an hour after consistently or 2. This improved battery life suggests it's an incredible option for following an whole day of scaling, as an instance, as there are a lot of distinct manufacturers of smartwatches that can battle with that due to the powerful requests of always on GPS.
Execution: A True TROOPER:
While the Forerunner 945 is gone for long distance runners Its set of capabilities, and sprinters spreads path .Press the Start/Stop grab on the top right and you'll Locate an whole plenty of athletic exercises, such as skiing, SUP, and even yoga. While we didn't get the chance to appraise every of the on the rundown throughout the audit procedurewe did a few runs, a touch of biking and a few yoga to perceive how nicely the Forerunner faked in its own wellness after. For all these it utilizes its pulse sensor, GPS and, when Out elevation. Long gone are the days when you had to have to trust that the GPS will kick before beginning a run. About the Forerunner 945, it evolves.Just as we can tell, accuracy was first class, as well, Giving you a similar unshakable GPS association and commendable following exactness as Garmin's increasingly more rigorous versions. You're just ever a grab press and tap from beginning a session.
Pulse checking appears to be exact. It Works by carrying readings around frequently, so it and continually assessing your BPM reacts to fluctuations decent and eloquent.Working in most respects, the 945 surely feels just like a Loyal friend. Be as it might, it's important that if the Forerunner 945 is watertight, its optical pulse screen still does not work submerged, so you will have to purchase the HRM-Tri or HRM-Swim ties also to find info regarding your ticker whilst swimmingpool. Furthermore, this doesn't come modest, retailing for about #150 for your own group pack.
SMARTWATCH AND Program FEATURES: STAR REPORTER:
Similarly with most wellness trackers and smartwatches, all That puffing and huffing is decided and the data put away in a friend program, for this circumstance, the Garmin Connect program.Any individual who is mindful of exactly what the Garmin program A couple of years will realize how much it's come so far as look and ease; it is significantly increasingly cleaned and much simpler to research around. When you are given by Cycling, week running and swimming information, your heartbeat diagram throughout late notices the four hours and the weather. Everything is spread out in obstructs, it is everything.hen auditing an exercise, you'll be awarded three rings Speaking to timing, separation, and calories absorbed, along with pace and increase information underneath and a manual of your path in the base (when GPS was utilized throughout ). From here, you might have a significantly more crucial investigate your specifics, (as an instance, VO2 max experiences) in the event that you will need a genuine profound jump, but these are maybe introduced to you personally if swipe crosswise over to them, promising you are not overpowered with advice.ou May alter the opinion in the program, for Example, how highlights are introduced to you just as the arrangement of this watch face and what info is appeared on the home display. You are able to also sort your music library . Enables Only state, it Garmin has at last included music gushing administrations, by way of instance, Spotify, that usually means you never need to chase for a record of your song to place about the gadget. With assistance for strikes, measure and also vibrate cautions considers Well, the Forerunner 945 offers you the institutions of a more method of lifestyle smartwatch, only without the unecessary flippery.
GARMIN FORERUNNER 935 VERDICT:
The Forerunner 945 may be slimmer and lighter than Garmin's Fenix 5 Plus, nevertheless it certainly packs a punch with regards to a wellness list of capacities.Battery life is great and Will see you really running rings around your Apple Watch partners. It is not the least Once you've aced the manual action set up, you'll find it a standout amongst additional preparing around pals.
The major difficulty is the cost:
Regardless, when you think about how much technician is Packed into the Forerunner 945 for your cash, and use you'll be able to get In return so far as health following and smartwatch highlights, we Think it merits each cent.

Best Watch Face For Vivoactive 4
Tumblr media
Best Garmin Watch For Amateur Swimmers. Wear To Track › Search The Best Law at www.weartotrack.com Law Details: Jan 09, 2020 The new series watches comes in two models that offer different screen sizes, with the Garmin VivoActive 4 offering a 1.3-inch screen (45mm version) and the.
Garmin 010-02064-00 Instinct, Rugged Outdoor Watch with GPS, Features GLONASS and Galileo, Heart Rate Monitoring and 3-axis Compass, 1.27', Graphite (Renewed) Rugged GPS watch built to withstand the toughest environments. Constructed to U. Military standard 810G for thermal, shock and water resistance (rated to 100 meters).
However, you can customize the Vivoactive 4 further with different watch faces, apps, and widgets. You can also opt for the Garmin Vivoactive 4S, which is the same as the Garmin Vivoactive 4 but features a slightly smaller watch face. Note that the Fitbit Charge 4 is still lighter and sleeker than the Vivoactive 4S.
Tumblr media
Garmin created the best alternative to the Apple Watch when it came out with the Vivoactive 3 Music. For 2019, Garmin has updated that device with the Vivoactive 4 series, which includes the 45mm Vivoactive 4 and the 40mm Vivoactive 4s. Minor hardware changes accompany equally minor smartwatch software changes in this device, but that's because new fitness features steal the show.
Garmin added a ton of fitness improvements to this watch, including optional all-day pulse ox measurements, hydration tracking, new breathing exercises (that don't suck), new custom workouts, on-screen animations, and more. Unsurprisingly, all those improvements add up to the Vivoactive 4's $349 starting price, which is at least $100 more than what the Vivoactive 3 Music goes for nowadays.
Those features add a lot of value and push the Vivoactive 4 ahead of even the Apple Watch in terms of fitness, but I still have a soft spot for the Vivoactive 3 series—and plenty of happy users may skip this upgrade.
New hardware
I tested the 40mm Vivoactive 4s and immediately noticed the newly added sleek-and-shiny touches on the watch's case. The circumference now has a thin casing of metal, and the two side buttons are metal as well. The Vivoactive 4s includes an additional side button for lap, back, and menu access. While it took a few tries to get used to the new input method, I was able to navigate the watch using that side button, the other side button, and the color touchscreen fairly easily.
The display itself is a backlit, transflective memory-in-pixel panel, which, in comparison to LCD panels, uses technology that allows it to consume less power. That's one of the hardware factors that lets the Vivoactive 4s get up to seven days of battery life (by Garmin's estimation). It has essentially the same quality as previous Vivoactive displays, so the watch face is always visible, and you won't have trouble reading it while running outside in the sun.
While familiar, this display is in stark contrast to the AMOLED panel on the new Garmin Venu smartwatch, which was announced at the same time as the Vivoactive 4 series. That device, however, starts at $399 due not only to its AMOLED panel, but also for some additional features that aren't present on Vivoactive 4 devices (keep an eye out for Ars' review of the Venu in the coming weeks). Thanks to that big hardware difference, the Venu will more closely compare to the Apple Watch Series 5.

The Vivoactive 4s is packed full of fitness-tracking sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope, altimeter, optical heart rate monitor, onboard GPS/Galileo/GLONASS, pulse ox, compass, and a thermometer. Both the heart rate monitor and the GPS have been updated with new sensors, so they should be even more accurate and more efficient than those in previous Garmin wearables. There's also storage space on the Vivoactive 4s for music, and all Vivoactive 4 smartwatches have onboard music storage as a standard feature. That means you won't pay extra for it like you had to when Garmin first introduced the Vivoactive 3 Music after the Vivoactive 3 had been available for a little while.
Garmin has improved its devices significantly over the past year or two when it comes to music storage. I had a 'better late than never' attitude when Garmin finally added music storage to some of its wearables, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the desktop interface for transferring tracks wasn't as horrid as those of other smartwatch makers. Since then, Garmin has added support for downloading tracks and playlists from Deezer, iHeartRadio, Spotify, and Amazon Prime Music, so paying subscribers can download music to listen to while running (and using a pair of connected Bluetooth headphones) without their smartphones present.
Overall, I'd argue Garmin has a better system for downloading and playing music from a smartwatch than Apple has and, therefore, the rest of the competition as well. While Apple makes it incredibly easy to pick tracks to sync and play music on its watches, you're limited to the music and other audio you have in your iTunes account and Apple Music (if you subscribe to the latter). LTE-equipped Apple Watches also make it easy to stream Apple Music playlists while working out. But users aren't locked into one ecosystem with Garmin, and I'll always prefer that flexibility over the alternative. Unfortunately, though, that means we will likely wait a long time for Apple Music integration to arrive on Garmin smartwatches—if it ever happens at all.
New software
All-day pulse ox
There are a lot of new fitness features on the Vivoactive 4s, but let's start by talking about one that directly affects battery life: optional all-day pulse ox. The pulse ox sensor inside the Vivoactive 4s allows it to measure the level of oxygen in your blood based off of the heart rate and breathing data it collects. Most healthy people will see a pulse ox percentage close to 100 in the Garmin Connect app after the pulse ox sensors gather enough data, but percentages dramatically lower than that could signal health problems. Like most consumer wearables on the market today, the Vivoactive 4s isn't a medical device, but it can capture useful information that users can share with their doctors who can then decide if there's a problem that needs to be addressed.
Previous versions of Garmin devices like the Vivosmart 4 could measure pulse ox on the fly or during sleep to capture more data over the course of the night. Now, if you enable continued, all-day pulse ox measurements, the Vivoactive 4 will periodically take readings throughout the day.
But this constant monitoring will dramatically reduce battery life, and unless you have a known problem with your blood oxygen levels that you want to monitor in a new way, I wouldn't recommend it. For the first few days of testing the Vivoactive 4s, I enabled pulse ox during sleep, and I got roughly four days and four nights of battery life out of the smartwatch. That's a little more than half of Garmin's estimated battery life for the device in smartwatch mode (up to seven days). It's still a good battery life for a wearable by normal standards, but you will have to charge the Vivoactive 4s about twice a week if you choose to enable pulse ox while sleeping.
I still believe pulse ox information isn't necessary for most users, but it's encouraging to see Garmin include a pulse ox sensor in nearly all of its new wearables and actually use it. Fitbit has been touting the pulse ox sensor found in almost all of its wearables introduced since the Ionic, but the sensor isn't active in any Fitbit devices—and there's no telling when Fitbit will put it to use.

Amazfit Stratos
An English version follows below.
Données d'entraînement par Firstbeat: VO2Max, Training Effect, Training Load, Recovery Time Advisor, Real Time Performance Condition, Personalized Training Plans, Real Time Coaching, Calories burned
Quelques petits bugs occasionnels
Se synchronize seulement avec Strava. J'aimerais beaucoup qu'ils ajoutent Training Peaks.
I was looking for a new GPS watch with longer battery life. My Garmin Vivoactive HR was nice and I could get up to 14 hours out of it, but with my races getting longer and longer, I needed better. I did not want to always bring a portable charger with me. The Forerunner 935 was very interesting, but at 680$CA, it was way over my budget.
While I was wasting my time on Facebook, I saw a post by a guy about this new smartwatch: the Amazfit Stratos. He bought it for less than 200$ and was raving about it. I watched all the reviews on YouTube, but most of them were done by geeks, not by ultra-endurance runners. I don't have anything about geeks, I'm one myself, but I wanted specific informations that I could not find. I decided to order one. What was enticing was the 35 hours run time with GPS and Heart rate monitoring. I was a bit skeptical at first.
The Amazfit Stratos is made by Huami, a company founded in 2013 and specialized in wearable technologies. They market their product under the name Amazfit, but they also make wearables for Xiaomi. They grew up fast and are now at the top of wearable market with more than 45 millions units sold.
Specifications
Transflective touch screen: Same kind of screen used by Garmin. It's energy efficient and really easy to see outside in plain sun. When you are inside, in darker area, you can activate backlighting to be able to read the screen.
Long battery life: Up to 5 days in smart watch mode, up to 11 days in basic mode and up to 35 hours in GPS tracking with heartrate monitoring
Sensors: GPS + Glonass, Barometer, Compass, Optical Heart Rate Monitor, Accelerometer
Bluetooth 4.0 / BLE + WiFi
Water resistant: 5 ATM or 50 meters
Multi-sports: 12 different sports. There is also a triathlon mode that can track all three sports + the time in transition areas.
Activity tracking: Steps, Sleep, Continuous heart rate, calories, floors climbed
Phone Notifications
3 stainless steel physical buttons and easy to change wrist band
Music via bluetooth, without the need of a phone
Firstbeat data: VO2Max, Training Effect, Training Load, Recovery Time Advisor, Real Time Performance Condition, Personalized Training Plans, Real Time Coaching, Calories burned
First use
After charging the watch, you power it on and download the Amazfit Watch app on your phone (iOS or Android). The watch will show a QR code that you use to pair it to your smartphone. It's quick and easy. After that, you enter your personal informations (weight, age, sexe, etc.) and you choose how you want your watch to behave. You can select which apps are allowed to send you notifications. If you are using Strava, you can link your Amazfit Watch app to it so that each time you do a workout, it's automatically uploaded to Strava. At the moment, it's the only option. If you are using another service (Training Peaks, Endomondo, Runkeeper, etc), you have two options: connect the watch to your computer via USB and transfer the file manually, or use a service like FitnessSyncer.
There are some settings that you can only set on the watch itself: time format (12 or 24h), vibration levels, backlighting levels, on which wrist you wear it, specified times for quiet hours or airplane mode, etc. You can also change the watchface. There are 14 different watchfaces available, but you can download many more from the internet. I really like the automatic airplane and quiet modes. I set them up between 9pm and 6am to be sure not to be disturb. it saves up the battery. There are two icons on the watch for quick access to those settings. I recommend putting the watch in airplane mode when you go for a really long run, to save battery life.
It's really easy to use the touchscreen. You can swipe from either side or from the top and bottom. You can also use the physical buttons which is great when it rains or under water. The buttons and the screen are locking up after a few seconds to prevent accidental touch. You only have to push the upper button to unlock it. You can also quick lock the watch by putting your hand over it.
Apps and Sports
There are many apps on the watch: Weather, Sleep Tracker, Heart Rate Tracker, Compass, Timer, Chonometer, Alarms, Music and Training Plans (beginners to marathon). You get to those apps by swiping from right to left. If you hold the center button for 2 seconds, you get back to the watch face.
If you swipe from left to right, you access the sports, the trainings you have done and the activity tracker. The available sports are: Run, Walk, Bike, Swim, Open water swim, Indoor run, Indoor bike, Elliptical, Climb, Trail Running, Triathlon, Ski, Tennis and Soccer.
If you swipe from top to bottom, you access the settings page. From bottom to top, you get to the notifications.
The phone app is divided in three sections. The first one display your day: Steps, heart rate, sleep and % of battery life left. The second section list all your recorded activities. When you click on one, you get your GPS track, all the stats and some really nice graphics. The last section is where you get your status and change your settings. There is also a Help option there. When you are on the landing page of the app, you can tap on the watch icon to get into another section. From here, you can change the watch faces, select the apps you want to display, and chose which metrics to display on your activities.
If you use the watch to listen to music or podcasts, without brining your phone, you need to transfer your MP3 files from a USB connection to your computer. You can't use Google Play Music, Apple Music or Spotify. That's not an option that appeals to me because I almost always bring my phone for safety reason. I still tested the on-board music and it works fine, but once you start the training session, you lose the music controls. The watch will play the songs with the settings you have in the music app.
My experience
Like other GPS watches (Garmin Fenix, Suunto Ambit), the watch is big. What surprised me though is how light it is. Instead of a metal body, the Stratos is made from Carbon fiber with a ceramic bezel and Gorilla glass. It feels sturdy. The wrist band is in silicone but there is a quick release that allows you to easily swap it with any other standard 22mm band. It's a beautiful watch with a nice screen where you can easily see and navigate through the menus and apps.
Unlike my old watch, you can use the physical buttons to navigate. Touch screens are great... but not when it's pouring rain. There is an auto-backlight option when you lift your watch to look at it. I turned it off to save battery life and to avoid activating it by mistake when I sleep. Speaking of the backlight, there are five brightness levels and an automatic one. The automatic level is working nicely for me. The screen won't look as shinny as a Gamsung Gear  inside, but a transflective screen is a great choice for a GPS watch since it's energy efficient and easy to read outside in plain sunlight.
Activity tracking
I did not test the accuracy of steps tracking. I know it can vary from watch to watch, but I don't really care. What I like to know is if I'm around 6000 on Monday and 13000 on Tuesday. Then I know I need to kick my butt on Mondays.
For the sleep tracking, I'm always a tough case. I have trouble falling asleep at night. I can stay in bed, without moving, trying to fall asleep, for more than an hour. All the watches I tried think I'm asleep at that time. I use sleep tracking to see how much time I'm in deep sleep because there's usually a direct relation, for me, with how rest I am the next day.
Heart rate monitoring
There is an option to activate Continuous heart rate tracking. It seems accurate. I did some spot checks throughout the day and I always get the same number on the watch than my manual pulse count. It seems to keep up while I'm running too. I had trouble with my old Garmin recently, when I was going uphill or downhill. Heart rate was reading 90-100 while I was way above 150. I did not get that problem with the Amazfit.
Wrist optical heart rate monitoring is nice and comfortable, but it can't keep up with hard interval sessions. There is always a ramp up, even when you go really hard. Nothing beats a chest strap for those situations. Fortunately, you can pair a Bluetooth chest monitor to the Stratos. Pairing process is quick and easy. I tried it with the Polar H7 and it worked flawlessly. I don't know if you can pair a power meter though. I don't use one, nor have I one available to test. I did not find any information about that either, so I would not hold my breath on that.
One thing that bothers me at the moment is you can't set up personalized heart rate zones. The watch uses the 220-age formula to set the zones. I know they are working on this though because I had a beta version of the smartphone app and there was a section, in Chinese, where you could set your zones. I hope it will come soon.
GPS
When you want to start a sport session, you need to wait a little bit for the GPS to find you. It takes about the same time as my Garmin Vivoactive HR. On my usual running routes, I get the same accuracy between the two watches. Last weekend, I went on an 8 hours trail run with a friend who was wearing a Suunto watch. At the end, we had over 1km difference on the total distance. I was bummed until I remember I had the 3D Data option enabled. This option calculates the real distance you run, considering the ups and downs, instead of flattening the route like you see on a map. Once I synced my run to Strava, I had the same 56,5km that he had. Since then, I turned the 3D Data option off, so it will be easier to compare my trainings with those from last year and before. The barometric altimeter is good too as I get close to the same value I was getting on my Garmin.
You can transfer a GPX file to the watch and use it in an activity. The watch will show you your position and give you directions while running. It could be nice for some races where the course marking is not so great.
Battery life
On that long 8 hours run, my Stratos went from 100% to 78%. That's only 22% for 8 hours! I was in airplane mode (WiFi and Bluetooth off) with GPS and heart rate monitor ON. That would mean a 35 or 36 hours of GPS tracking. I will be able to test that on my first 100 miler in July. I was really surprised and happy with that result. If you ever need longer than that (talking to you my 200 miler friends), you can recharge the watch while running. I tried without the airplane mode (WiFi, Bluetooth and notifications ON), and I drained 16% of the battery in 3 hours. That means around 18 hours of battery life.
Amazfit Watch App
When you save a training, the watch synced it to the Amazfit Watch app on your phone. You can view the GPS track, all the statistics and some nice graphics. The app also syncs the activity to Strava. Earlier this week, after a software update, it stopped syncing. I had to go to Strava, remove the authorization, then go into the app and set up the connection again. After that, it worked flawlessly.
Firstbeat
Firstbeat is a Finnish sports physiology analysis company. They are specialized in heart rate analysis. They work in the medical field, the professional sports and on consumer products too. Garmin, Suunto, TomTom and Huami are some of the companies that use their algorithms in their watches. I read a bit on their site and what they are doing is very interesting. On the Amazfit Stratos, they provide metrics to assess your training load, the training effect of a session, live information on how you are doing (and if you should push or take it easy), how much time to recovery, etc. It also approximate your VO2Max and they say the number is very close to what you would get from a lab testing. The geeky side of me loves this.
The Good
Awesome battery life
Comfortable and light
Beautiful
Great readability of the screen in bright sunlight
All the sensors you need for trail running or other adventures
Firstbeat Metrics
Very Affordable
Can be recharged while running
Different watchfaces
Can easily change the wrist band
Can use a GPX file for navigation
Easy to program interval trainings on the smartphone app
The bad or what should be better
No personalized heart rate zones yet
Some small occasional bugs
Syncs only to Strava. I would like to get Training Peak sync too
They could add more sports, like Strength training
No notifications interactions, just display
I would like to be able to rearrange the sports on the list
I would like to be able to change the alerts during an activity
No music control while in an activity
No music options for Spotify, Google Play Music or Apple Music
Cost
It sells for 230$US on the US Amazfit website. If you are in the US, you get free shipping but for us, in Canada, it will cost you 30$. Expect another 30$ for Duty processing and add the TPS and or TVQ to that. It's still a lot less than a Garmin Forerunner 935. For me, it was an easy choice and I don't regret it. Since it's a very new watch (launched in April 2018), I can't say anything on the durability. I hope it will last me a long time and I hope they will continue to tweak the software and add new options.

SUUNTO X10M Wrist-Top GPS Computer Watch Review
SUUNTO X10M Wrist-Top GPS Computer Watch Review
Adventure trekking has always been one of my favorite activities and if the hiking trip is supported by GPS navigation, the margin for error is minimized! Perhaps the producers of Suunto X10 know this! My search for a modest and portable GPS navigation device for my hiking expeditions really came to an end with the new Suunto X10. Now that I have used it for a couple of months, I am quite satisfied and glad to key down a short review of what exactly I found in this small but sexy GPS NAVIGATION WATCH!
SUUNTO X10 Technical Description
The new Suunto x10m smartwatch has benefited from performance upgrades that make it faster, more powerful, and more reliable.
Performance is improved because it locates positions faster than the older model of the Suunto GPS watch line. Thus, during difficult conditions (under thick foliage, etc.) the new Suunto x10m smartwatch delivers more reliable indications.
Suunto x10m GPS smartwatch is hands-free so you can focus on the action. It records waypoints and routes so excursions can be studied and analyzed at home on a computer.
The Suunto x10m GPS smartwatch watch includes an altimeter, barometer, digital compass, thermometer, watch, and stopwatch functions. It’s a real sleek and sporty wrist computer.

The Hardware talk:
To start off, the Suunto X10 is a smart and portable GPS navigation device that plays a dual role. The sleek and sexy curves of the device surely call for some attention. Although it is a bit heavy, you can use it as a watch for your day to day use, and trust me, you are going to get accustomed to the weight of the device. It uses a state of the art and durable plastic with small metal parts scattered here and there. The first metal you will notice is the buckle. As far as the battery is concerned, the Suunto X10 is superior to the prior versions and the battery run time has increased by 33%. The life expectancy of the battery is 5-7 hours with all the functions running in tandem. I mean: heavy GPS usage, data storage, compass functions, and backlight- all running at a time and continuously. However, it will survive for 3 long months (claimed by the manufacturer) with minimal usage which includes the only date and/or Baro/Alti mode! The hardware of Suunto X10 is resistant to water up to a depth of 100 meters and thus if rain or water evokes your desire to get wet, feel free to do so.
The Software Talk:
There is nothing really interesting that I encountered. It only allows me to edit way point or add some new way points on my trip. Planning a trip on Google Earth and then importing it back to the device is not possible but it surely allowed me to export my routes and view them on Google Earth. For the purpose of planning I had to bring the maps in any of the following image formats: .gif, .bmp or .jpg. There is another alternative as well! I can manually draw the maps but I accept that I hate drawing maps!
Words on Features:
Keying an exhaustive list of the features available on this GPS navigation system is really out of the scope. However, some of the features are discussed below:
Barometer:
When I turn on the barometer screen, it allows me to see the barometric pressure of the place at the sea level in that particular geographical region. The presentation is graphical and the barometric pressure development in the last six hours in that particular area is shown. The presentation is shown every 15 minutes.
Altitude:
Suunto X10 is fully capable of measuring the altitude of a place from barometric pressure and the calculations are far more accurate than those made by the GPS. It is to be borne in mind that changes in the barometric pressure can lead to change in altitude.
Alarm:
Now, fellow, you cannot really afford to think of this as a simple alarm to pull you out of your dreams. The watch can actually be used to set altitude and weather alarms. The barometric alarm always informs me of any changes in the level of barometric pressure.
Compass
Want to save the battery life? Use this compass and turn off the GPS. Well, you need to know how to use a compass in the first place. The compass has an additional feature called a bearing lock. Fix the target bearing and hit ‘Start’. Now follow the destination and you can see your deviations from your target point. That is charming I must say!
Navigation
In this particular model, you can create waypoints as well as routes by using your computer or while you are on the go! The activity mode will show the speed, location, etc but in navigation mode, you can see the distance to be covered, the direction to be followed, the estimated time for your arrival for every single waypoint on the route.

Conclusion
SUUNTO X10M Wrist-Top GPS Computer Watch
Suunto X10 is a hi-tech gadget for GPS navigation at higher altitudes. There is hardly any drawback to be pointed out and if you claim that the inability to import routes from Google Earth is a shortcoming, I will say that you are expecting way too much. Be happy with the extraordinary features of the Suunto X10! Trust me, I am happy!

Corne Said :
I have had my X10M now for a year and two months. I have sent the watch in for repairs as my bezel pealed off and the bezel kept clipping out. Suunto repaired it and after this, my battery time was way down, so I sent it back again as they did something wrong in the repair process. Suunto then replaced my watch with a new one! The problem is two days later the new watch’s bezel started un-clipping again! Well to say the least my new watch is now back for repairs again:-( This is a great watch but I would not recommend it as the bezel is a great problem (That Suunto does not want to acknowledge) and you cannot keep sending a watch to the repair center for a new bezel every month for the rest of your life.

If you’re after a cheaper alternative to the Apple Watch, you’ve found it. With that in mind, cheaper doesn’t necessarily mean worse. The Fitbit Versa is lightweight, stylish, and it comes with tons of useful features. This smartwatch can track not only your physical activity, but also your sleep cycles.
There’s a lot of rave on the internet about whether or not the Fitbit Versa is better than the Apple watch, and in some ways, it is. It offers most of the same features for a lower price. However, price shouldn’t be the only deciding factor.
Pros:
Cost-effective
Lightweight & compact
Compatible with iPhone & Android
Con:
Synching issues and inaccurate data
Size: 33.27mm |Style: Watch | Color: Six | Case Size: 39.37mm | GPS: Yes |Track daily Activities: Yes | Heart Rate Monitor: Yes | Emergency SOS: Yes | Compass: Yes | Fall detection: No | Capacity: 4 GB | Battery Life: 5 days|
5. Garmin Forerunner 245 — Best For Runners
The Garmin Forerunner 245 has been tearing its way through the running community as one of the best smartwatches for runners. It offers offline music, reliable battery life, and can track any running stat you need.
The design looks like a conventional digital watch but with a fresher interface. Whether you’re a distance runner or a sprinter, the Garmin Forerunner 245 has a feature. This watch is a bit more expensive than the Garmin Vivoactive but is more affordable than the Garmin Fenix or Marq.
Pros:
User-friendly touch screen interface
Water-resistant
Lightweight
Only good for runners

6. Samsung Galaxy Watch — Most Power
The Samsung Galaxy smartwatch is almost unmatched when it comes to battery life. That’s because the watch has a wireless charger that allows you to recharge anywhere without slowing the operating system.
It also comes with all the typical smartwatch features such as heart rate tracking, temperature, and music. The Samsung Galaxy watch uses the Tizen operating system and not the standard Google wear OS.
If you own a Samsung smartphone, you can’t go wrong with this Android smartwatch, but it may not be the best smartwatch for iPhone users.
Pros:
Wireless charging
User-friendly interface
Long battery life
Cons:
No Google Maps

7. Fitbit Ionic — Most Comfortable
The Fitbit Ionic design is suitable for almost all lifestyles. You don’t need to be into extreme sports to enjoy the many benefits of this smart watch.
It has most of the Fitbit Versa features and comes with a unique personal coaching feature to help track performance. The Fitbit charge is reliable and will last you 4–5 days on smartwatch mode.
Pros:
Reputable Brand
Unique fitness trackers
Reliable battery
Cons:
Slow operating system

For those who are able, running is one accessible way to get in your daily dose of aerobic activity.
While you don’t need much equipment to get started, having the right accessories can make your runs easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable overall.
We asked the avid runners on our team to share the accessories they use to make their runs smoother and more enjoyable. Here are the 17 picks they shared.
One of the best parts about running is that you don’t need much equipment to do it – just lace up your sneakers and go.
But, just because it’s a simple activity doesn’t mean it’s always enjoyable or easy. A lot of us hate running. I did for a long time. That was, until I realized there were a few things I could add to my runs to make them more enjoyable. You can’t buy a positive attitude, but being armed with some great accessories to make you feel safer, comfier, and faster just might be the motivation you need.
For me, it starts with a great pair of headphones that let me block out the noises around me and blast the playlists I actually want to hear. Since everyone’s different, I reached out to my cohort of coworkers to see what their favorite running accessories are.
From compression tights that keep your muscles feeling good through long distances to watches that make your runs feel a little less like a chore, these are the 17 running accessories we count on to make our runs more enjoyable.
Garmin Vivoactive Smartwatch
Tumblr media
source
Amazon
Garmin’s Vivoactive 3 Music GPS Smartwatch, $250, available at Garmin and Amazon
I run with Garmin’s Vivoactive 3 Music smartwatch because it has built-in music storage so I can run without my phone and still listen to music via Bluetooth headphones. It also tracks a lot of key metrics for runners, including VO2 Max, mileage, heart rate, calories burned, pace, cadence, and stride length. Plus, it provides a map of the route I run, thanks to the built-in GPS. – Malarie Gokey, editor
TaoTronics Bluetooth Headphones
Tumblr media
source
Amazon
TaoTronics Neckband Bluetooth Headphones with Active Noise Cancelling, $45.99, available at Amazon
TaoTronics’ Neckband Bluetooth headphones are fairly affordable for noise-cancelling wireless earbuds, and they sound quite good. The neckband design ensures that they stay in place while I run and the noise-cancellation blocks out most ambient noise. – Malarie Gokey, editor
BioLite Headlamp
Tumblr media
source
Amazon
BioLite Headlamp 330, $49.95, available at Amazon
Running comfort, for me, means running with peace of mind. I used to wear a basic, flashing LED that clipped onto my shirt, but since testing BioLite’s rechargeable Headlamp 330 for a review, I’ve incorporated it into my workout. It is super-bright for illuminating the road in front of me, but I usually use the strobe function so that I don’t blind drivers. BioLite engineered it to fit comfortably on the head for lost-lasting wear, and the elastic won’t smell even if you sweat profusely. – Les Shu, editor
Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 Sneakers
Tumblr media
source
Zappos
Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19, $130, available at Zappos
Brooks makes the best running shoes you can buy, so I recently decided to try the Adrenaline GTS 19 running shoes, and I love them. They are incredibly comfortable, offer great support, and absorb impact effectively to make running more comfortable on my shins and my feet. – Malarie Gokey, editor
Athleta Panache Non Wired Sports Bra
Tumblr media
source
Athleta
Athleta Panache Non Wired Sports Bra, $54.99 – $68.00, available at Athleta
As a woman with a bigger bust, it’s always a challenge to find a sports bra that’s comfortable, supportive, and attractive. I’ve finally met my match in the Panache’s Non Wired Sports Bra. It really holds everything in place without making me feel like I’m in a suffocating corset and it’s easy to take off after a sweaty run because it has a traditional bra clasp in the back. – Malarie Gokey, editor
Janji Feather Tee
Tumblr media
source
Janji
Janji Women’s Feather Tee, $42, available at Janji
Janji is a running apparel company that supports organizations that provide water to those in need. They also make my all-time favorite running T-shirt. It’s loose without being shapeless, naturally odor resistant, and has forgettable seams. But, by far the best thing is that it’s never, ever too hot – even for cardio I’d previously only do in a tank top. – Mara Leighton, reporter
Under Armour Eclipse Sports Bra
Tumblr media
source
Under Armour
Under Armour Eclipse High Sports Bra, $54.99, available at Under Armour
I’m a 32DD and finding a sports bra I don’t hate wearing has been a long process. An older iteration of this one is my go-to. It provides enough support without using underwire or making me feel like I’m strapping myself into a corset. I put it on and stop thinking about it. My movements aren’t restricted, and it doesn’t cause chafing. – Mara Leighton, reporter
2XU Compress Tights
Tumblr media
source
Amazon
2XU Women’s MCS Run Compression Tights, $118.68, available at Amazon
2XU made these leggings specifically for runners. Internally, they have selective, anatomically mapped compression to bring more blood to the areas put under the most stress during a run (quads, calves) so you can perform better and recover faster without losing any upfront mobility like all-over compression. While that’s a big perk, I love them equally as much because they feel like a thin second skin. I overheat easily during cardio, and these are the leggings I’d wear for every run if I could afford to. There have been complaints in the past that this pair is see-through (which 2XU responded to by adding denser paneling to the back) but I’ve never had an issue. Find a full review here. – Mara Leighton, reporter
Bombas Performance Ankle Sock
Tumblr media
source
Bombas
Bombas Women’s Performance Ankle Sock, $16, available at Bombas
I don’t love running unconditionally. If one variable is off (like irritating socks), I can’t force myself to make it to the mailbox. That’s why investing in unreasonably expensive – but far superior – socks makes sense to me. Bombas spent two years developing the perfect sock complete with Y-stitching and blister tabs, and they’re the ones I trust to keep me comfortable for five miles or 13. – Mara Leighton, reporter
Saucony Kinvara Sneakers
Tumblr media
source
Saucony
Saucony Kinvara 10, $110, available at Saucony
The all-new Kinvara 10 ($110) pairs the best of the old Kinvaras with the best of the newer iterations. They’re ideal for any distance, from 5Ks to marathons, and they feel supportive but not bulky. The Formfit insole is a welcome addition, and the breathable, flexible upper disappears on the run. – Mara Leighton, reporter
I switch between running sneakers, and this pair of Kinvara 10s from Saucony is one of my favorites (I’ve written about them before). They’re super lightweight and are almost fitted specifically to my feet because of the cushioned and contoured footbed. The rose colorway is also a nice light pop of color against my usual all-black workout gear. – Jada Wong, editor
Jaybird RUN Wireless Headphones

Jaybird RUN True Wireless Headphones, $129.95, available at Amazon
These true wireless headphones are a godsend for running – and their small size and battery life (12 hours on a full charge, five minutes in the charging case for an hour of play time) are so convenient I’ve started using them while traveling, too. They’re sweat-proof and water-resistant, but the main selling point for me was the fact that they’ve never fallen out of my ears – or felt like they might – in over a year. – Mara Leighton, reporter

Brooks Levitate Running Shoes, $150, available at Amazon
When I’m not wearing the Kinvara 10s, I like the Brooks Levitate sneaker. It’s heavier than the Kinvara 10s by three ounces, which doesn’t sound like much, but is definitely noticeable for me. It doesn’t bother me, but important to note for runners who might have more sensitive feet than I do. The shoe isn’t as sleek as the Kinvara 10s either, but the wider sole does give me more traction when trail running. – Jada Wong, editor

Amazon
Anker SoundBuds Curve Wireless Headphones, $26.99, available at Amazon
My fiancé and I have gone through two pairs of these Anker headphones, and we’ve gifted them to friends and co-workers – it’s that good. For under $30, these headphones can’t be beat.
These headphones aren’t flashy and honestly they don’t have great noise cancelling capabilities, but we really like them for the low-profile design and durability – they’re water resistant, so perfect for sweaty runs and workouts. I also personally use it every day even when I’m not working out to listen to podcasts and music during my commute or when I’m multitasking while talking on the phone; the built-in speaker has been a game-changer for me.
The brand also has a great 18-month warranty and customer service is nice and reliable. – Jada Wong, editor

Best Buy
Apple Watch Series 3, $309, available at Best Buy
I bought an Apple Watch originally for fun (a pricey toy) but it has since become my personal virtual trainer that I can’t leave home without. Not only does it track my runs (indoors and outdoors), walks, elliptical machine exercises, swim laps, heart rate, etc., it combines it with other related data to give me a big-picture view of my health. I also like how it gamifies my exercise activity – I must close those daily rings! There are also many downloadable running apps, including “Zombies, Run!” that turns running into an actual game. I’m rocking the older Series 3, which is still great and now more affordable. – Les Shu, editor

Superfeet Run Comfort Insoles, $49.95, available at Amazon
Like my colleagues, I’m also a fan of Brooks running shoes. But to add extra comfort, or if I need to turn a pair of stylish sneaks into runners, I slip the Superfeet Run Comfort Thin inside my shoes. I’ve been using Superfeet insoles for more than 10 years because I find them to be comfortable and long-lasting. – Les Shu, editor
Fits No Show Sock

Fits Ultra Light Runner No Show Sock, $15.95, available at Moosejaw and Amazon
I recently switched to these socks for running. Fits socks provide extra cushioning at the heel and top of the foot, making my runs a bit more comfortable as my feet hit the pavement or treadmill. I also like how they’re designed to stay snug on my feet, whereas most no-show socks tend to easily slip off. – Les Shu, editor
Fitletic Sport Belt

Amazon
Fitletic Mini Sport Belt, $19.95, available at Amazon
Nothing makes me lose motivation faster than having to worry about clutching my belongings in my hand during a run. This lycra pouch on an adjustable belt is an easy solution. The material is super stretchy, so it can expand to fit a good amount of items. There’s even an interior pocket to keep credit cards and IDs secure. Plus, it’s waterproof so you don’t have to worry about anything getting ruined if you work up a sweat. – Remi Rosmarin, reporter

SUUNTO X10M Wrist-Top GPS Computer Watch
Suunto X10 is a hi-tech gadget for GPS navigation at higher altitudes.
