Ana está de viaje en Mendoza por trabajo, pero vive en Buenos Aires. Es la primera vez que pisa suelo cuyano.

Está encerrada en un hotel, reunida con gente de todas partes del mundo. Presentaciones, conferencias, desayunos corporativos, así es su agenda por una semana.

No entiende por qué eligieron ese lugar para el congreso. Es muy frustrante estar en una ciudad tan linda, a pasitos de atracciones naturales, y no poder visitar nada ni siquiera por un rato. Tal vez haya gente que se quede unos días más para pasear, pero no es su caso.

De lo que no tiene quejas es la comida, especialmente las cenas. Las carnes, los vinos, los postres, todo es de primer nivel. Además, lo está disfrutando al máximo porque puede comer sentada y tranquila. No como en su casa, o en la oficina, donde siempre hay un hijo, o un jefe, demandando respuestas inmediatas a cualquier hora.

El último día, durante la sobremesa del almuerzo de cierre, un compañero le cuenta que a todos los que estuvieron de viaje los están poniendo en cuarentena por prevención. Ana había estado leyendo noticias sobre el coronavirus, pero no sabía que ya se consideraba pandemia y que las medidas habían alcanzado el hemisferio sur. Repasa la lista de asistentes al evento y verifica que hubo más europeos que americanos. Ahí está el tema, esos países están en la lista de alto riesgo de contagio.

Le manda un mensaje a su hermana, que es empleada administrativa en un hospital público, para que le cuente la posta. También a una amiga que trabaja en el free shop del aeropuerto. 

Efectivamente, ambas le confirman que lo más probable es que tenga que quedarse encerrada durante catorce días, y lo mismo su familia.

En cinco horas va a estar de regreso, pero siente que faltan mil. Su marido le manda una lista de las cosas que está yendo a comprar, porque después no van a poder salir. Ella le suma otras. Algunas indispensables, como las de higiene personal femenina, y otras caprichosas, como pantuflas rayadas y sales de baño aromáticas.

Cuando finalmente baja del avión y le explican las normas de seguridad, se pone barbijo y guantes de latex, rocía con alcohol las valijas y se sube a un remis que la lleva hasta el barrio de San Cristóbal.

Su hijo abre la puerta y le recuerda que tiene que dejar los zapatos afuera y lavarse bien las manos. Ella corre al baño, se saca la ropa y la mete en una bolsa. Se ducha, se pone un pijama limpio, y va directo a la habitación del nene. No lo ve, lo llama casi a los gritos. Él asoma la cabeza por debajo de la cama y le dice:  

—Acá, ma, vení que armé un refugio.

Las sábanas cuelgan hasta el piso y Ana las levanta para esconderse también, pero antes le pregunta si hay alguna contraseña para entrar. No parece necesario porque, sin responderle, él le agarra la mano para que se meta rápido. 

—El virus no puede entrar acá porque es un virus muy grande y esta cueva es muy chiquita —le dice. Ella sonríe y se abrazan a oscuras.
