13. exchanging looks in a crowded room

the windblume festival means only one thing in the city of freedom. a galathat is typically celebrated in each clan’s estate. of course, this year’s windblume gala is hosted by the one and only diluc ragnvindr. your best friend and your boyfriend’s brother. 

although not shown to the citizens of mondstadt, diluc was… well, to put it frankly, nervous than he seemed. he didn’t want the party to go wrong despite you comforting him as much as possible. “what if the gala isnt as elegant as my father did it, name?” 

“trust me diluc. it is and now cmon, we don’t want our boyfriends to keep waiting right?” you teased as diluc flushed red.

“zhongli isn’t my boyfriend, name. we are just two individuals who understand each other–” diluc insisted. but it sounded like he was trying to help himself more than you. 

“-- to a certain level. i know but no friends i know kiss each other on a regular basis.” you snorted as diluc rolled his eyes. “ready to go?” 

“yes.” 

by the time you were at the dawn winery, the daylight was consumed by the night. kaeya wasn’t there yet, which is okay. but it makes you wonder where he is since nearly all of the knights of favonius members were already there. 

suddenly your sight was being covered, you could hear the smile in his voice. “did ya miss me?” kaeya asked, still covering your face with his gloved hands. you chuckled and replied in a joking tone, “hardly!” he lifted his hands away from you as you turned his way. 

“how rude.” he mumbled. you look at what kaeya was wearing. a v-shaped collared button down with dark blue coat and slacks with a loose tie. he even got a fancy eyepatch.

“oh, babe, i was just joking. is this the new suit you talked about?” you asked as he intertwined his hands with yours. you squeezed his hand as he brushed his finger over your thumb. your nails and kaeya’s are matching too. just for windblume. 

it was his idea. he wholeheartedly believed that people would stop hitting on you if you matched nails with him. white and blue with a pearl. but it still didn’t stop anyone regardless. kaeya thought he should ditch the knights, just to be your guard dog. you insisted that isn’t needed because you guys also managed to get matching necklaces. 

“good save… it is, actually. i saved this one and got it tailored a week ago. i think i should wear it everyday if you keep looking at me like this.” his statement got you flustered,

“oh shut up, kae. let’s head in, shall we?” you asked, swinging his hand. he smiled and replied, 

“we shall.”

as always, the ragnvindr’s winery was decorated top to bottom with the most lavished items. you couldnt believe diluc thought he was downplaying it. it was more than what mr. ragnvindr did before he passed. it’s cute that he put so much thought into the decorations. maybe he did it to impress zhongli. 

you’re not sure how but you managed to lose kaeya in the crowd. it’s fine though because you saw amber and her girlfriend, rosaria. amber greeted you with a smile while rosaria sipped  champagne from her glass.

“hi amber and rosaria! have you guys seen kae?” you asked while amber took the time to think. she replied with 

“yes we have! i think i saw him near mr. diluc.” amber looked at rosaria for confirmation as the taller woman nodded. 

“thank you so much!” 

you weaved through the crowd to find your boyfriend and you met eyes with him. it’s too loud to talk to him normally and too crowded to go to him. he gestured with his blue eye to diluc and someone else. he mouthed, 

“look.” 

you turn your head to diluc’s direction. there was your best friend and totally not the guy he is into. you exchanged the look with kaeya. 

“THERE’S NO WAY.” your eyes spoke to him. while he acted like his brother couldve done it before. 

he made this argument before. since kaeya and diluc were raised in the same household, they had the similar charisma. you thought about it and that’s true. they both have charisma but not in the same way kaeya thought they did. 

you looked at diluc and zhongli then back at kaeya. you asked if you both should walk and talk with diluc and zhongli. kaeya looked troubled before walking closer to you.

“we should probably leave them alone–” you furrowed a brow. this is not kaeya. kaeya would never miss on an opportunity to mess with diluc just a little.

“–with us behind the curtains.”

24. featherlight kisses over their entire face

although albedo didnt mind it, you werent the most affectionate type. its okay since he liked to be the one leading you into his arms. but today was such an awful day especially when his experiment was such a failure. he doesn’t know what variable made it combust in such a way. maybe it was the control variable? it doesn’t matter though; maybe he will figure it out later. at least he gets to see you at last. 

as the sun shined through the blinds, albedo unlocked the oak door with the keys. he walked into the house, feeling the weight of the failure on his shoulders. the living room was empty and no sign of you in the room. he trudged into the shared bedroom, ditching the extra layers he was wearing. he was looking for you and the weight of his heart went lighter when he saw you sitting in the bed.

you had a book propped between your hands. as albedo walked closer to you, he noticed that you were reading an inazuman book. specifically, one of the books he bought on his trip to inazuma as calx. he wasn’t the type to read romantic books. this specific book reminded him of your relationship with him. “star-crossed lovers…” it is quoted in the book. but it said, “not in the romeo and juliet way though.”

your voice snapped him from his tangent trance, “bad day?”  

“unfortunately, yes, i did. an experiment has gone wrong and im not sure what exactly went wrong.” albedo responded as he made his way to the bed. he laid on the spot right next to you as you gestured to him to lay on your lap. he gladly obliged.

“you didn’t try to ‘bedo your way through it?” 

“bedo?” 

you laughed, “well, you are usually very determined to figure out what would go wrong during the experiment. do you want to walk me through it or do you want to talk about something else?” you subconsciously brush your hand through his blond locks as he took your hand and pressed himself against it. 

“as much i do want to talk about it, we can later. im just happy to see you since you are my sun to my world.” 

“stop it.” your hand withdrew from his face and the warmth albedo had next to his cheek disappeared.

 albedo lifted his head and cocked it, “stop what?” he paused and waited for your answer. waiting if he said something wrong to make you uncomfortable. yet, nothing was said but it was written all over your face. your face was flushed with a coral red color. he hasnt seen that face in a while… were you hiding the fact you were flustered the whole time he would flirt with you? 

how cute?

“you know what you’re doing, ‘bedo!” you yelped as he got off of your lap and sat in front of you, cupping your face. “bedo!” the book you were reading was discarded as it fell out of your lap onto the floor.

as bedo cupped your face, he pressed light kisses on your face, each time, his warmth leaves your face, he replaced it with a new kiss. stubborn that you were the one smothered with love, you cupped his face instead. his strength to cup yours faltered as you gave him a kiss on his forehead, then his nose and lips. you peeked out of your closed eyes as you met eyes with albedo and his teal eyes. you could see the pseudo hearts forming in his pupils.

you broke the kiss with a breathy laugh as albedo seemed like he wanted more. “oh archons, albedo,” you whispered as he leaned to your face.

16. pulling them closer when they're cold

note: im honestly not sure if i wrote the cold conditions correctly on skintones (i did find a blog about it. ill link it here: writing w color blog. since i want my fics to be inclusive, i didn't want to mention anything with skintones, hair descriptions, etc please let me know if my fics aren't all readers friendly. i hate this fic because its more dialogue than descriptive but ill get better at that for the other fics i swear.

maybe kazuha was wrong about bringing you to dragonspine in mondstadt, you were shivering due to the abnormal cold in the region. you insisted that you weren’t cold because you wore just enough layers to sustain from the frigid conditions. but you and him already knew that you were wrong. just too stubborn to admit it. 

“name, im sure i see a pyro seelie from here. do you want to come closer or do you want to be as stubborn as a shielded geo slime?” kazuha asked, chuckling at his own joke. he took a glance at you.

your skin significantly got paler as the t zone of your face reddens every time a snowflake passes, “i’m fine! i swear!” 

you both stare at each other, hoping the other breaks. of course, you can withstand kazuha’s stares but can you really withstand his puppy eyes? not in a way its too cute to handle. you physically wince at it. 

“stop it.” you said, face getting paler and your nose reddens. a snot slowly trailing down as you wiped it away. 

“what? what am i doing?” 

“you know what you’re doing–” it was too late. the more he did the face, the more you cringed at the expression. “i hate you.” he pulled you into his arms. 

“this is your fault for not bringing the right equipment.” he slipped your cold hands into his pockets. “now c’mere and find a pyro seelie.” 

“you’re kidding…”

“what?” he cocked his head as you both waddle together. you were still swaddled up in his arms. 

“you couldve just told me there was a pyro seelie instead of staring contesting with me!” you groaned. 

“well, its your fault for being so stubborn.”

26. not letting them go when hugging

you havent seen albedo in a while. he’s always in his lab, working and you dont want to bother him when hes working. its not like he would mind when you’re there. its just awkward since you dont understand whats going on. it’s fine anyway. even though, it hurts not knowing the information beforehand, you like to learn and besides, just having a glimpse of albedo is worth it. 

but by the time you went to his lab, albedo was already gone. huh. you couldve sworn he told you he would be in his lab, doing his little alchemist things. the lab was empty. notes scattered on the desk and the glassware in the works of an experiment. but there was really no trace of albedo. just before you were going to leave, a familiar green haired girl yelped, her glasses dropping on the cobblestone floor. “AH! NAME!”

“sucrose, have you seen albedo?” you asked, tilting your head to the side. she picked up her glasses as she put it on, 

“i have today! but he left me a letter on the desk– oh! i shouldve not told you.”

“what?” 

“ah.. im making this worse. i promise it isn’t what it sounds like, name.” sucrose is really not that kind of girl anyway. to be the other woman? no… mostly because she’s dating rosaria. 

“no i understand. what letter are you talking about?” 

“this one!” sucrose replied, reaching for a letter in the cabinets. she handed it to you while you opened up the letter. 

sucrose, 

i will be going home early today; please take notes on the experiment while i’m gone. i have to return home to surprise her.

ha ha… he was home, of course he was. “thank you for telling me sucrose!”

as you jingled your keys into your shared home with albedo, you heard excited giggles and shushes on the other side. when the door opened, shuffled feet were running towards your way and before you could react, a little munchkin tackled you down on the wooden floors. 

“NAME!” klee exclaimed with glee as albedo helped you up. she was still attached to you. you walked to the living room as the elf was clinging onto your waist. 

“hi klee! how are you doing?” you asked as she rambled about her day. archons, no wonder she can kill a geovishap hatching. she’s holding you so tight as if you were dodoco. at least, she thinks dear of you. 

“klee, you’re making name uncomfortable…” albedo stated, referring to your expression of how tight she’s holding you. klee saw your face and released her grip on you. 

“i’m sorry, name.” she pouted as you pat her head. 

“don’t worry about it.” 

later in the night, after jean picked up klee from the house. you both were in your bedroom, it was dimly lit and you were just getting to bed. until albedo’s head burrowed into your nape, you were confused. as you pat his head, he mumbled something you couldn’t hear.

“i was going to surprise you today but i didn’t see you in the house.” 

you chuckled in response, “i was going to surprise you too!” there was silence between you two but it was comfortable. albedo broke the silence by laughing a little, it wouldn’t be long until you started to laugh along with him. he burrowed more into your neck, hugging you a bit tighter. it would be nice if nights were always like this.
