Smile for the Camera (Geto Suguru x Black!Plus-sized!Fem!Reader) (18+) - In which you decide to volunteer to model for your friend’s lingerie line photoshoot when the original model gets sick and meet the very sexy photographer who isn’t letting you leave until you realize how gorgeous you are.

Especially since this particular coworker isn't exactly your cup of tea: Gojo Satoru is just too proud, too cocky, and too damn full of himself for a girl like you. But when you're persuaded to go and find yourself alone with him, Gojo will stop at nothing until you see that loving yourself is nothing to hate on. After all, a beautiful woman like you deserves to be loved on...especially on camera.
Comfortable With You (Inexperienced!Painter!Choso x Black!Fem!Reader) (18+) - Choso has never been anyone like you before: so confident and sure of yourself yet so sweet and compassionate. He can’t stop thinking about you. So to make this Valentine’s Day one you’ll never forget, he’ll show you just how comfortable he is with you and how desperately he wants to make you feel the same…even though you’re his first everything. In A Rut (Monster!Hawks x Black!Fem!Reader) (18+) - You haven't seen your boss around the office in a while ever since he started feeling "under the weather", but when you decide to visit him one day to cheer him up with some soup, you realize that this isn't a normal spring cold. Your boss is in heat and you, his good little assistant, are the only one who can help him cure it.
Playin’ Games (Choso x Self-Insert!Reader) (18+) [COMMISSION FILL] - In which your brother's best friend calls from his business trip to play a game of truth or dare over a Skype call, but it quickly turns into something else once your brother heads to bed and naughty pics and strip teasing get involved.

Sneaky Link 💙 (Toxic!Student!Gojo x Professor!MILF!Reader FWB) (18+) - You’re a stressed-out mom and college professor who has been swamped with your job and mommy life lately. You’re so knee-deep in your work and kids that you need some kind of release. dabihawks, sorta hawks centric, post war Drabble pt2 pt 1
Touya liked to think of himself as a man of his word, and this was no different.
But right now he kind of wished it was different, because he has severely underestimated how nervous he'd be on Keigo's behalf.
It didn't really matter anyways, because ever since Keigo kissed him that Thursday afternoon he asked him to come with him to meet the weird owl looking man that had apparently raised him at The Commission, Touya had been left defenseless around the hero.
How could one possibly say no to anything when it was asked by the most beautiful being on Earth, especially when that being for some reason looked at him like hun hung the sun and the moon in the sky himself?
No, Touya would have ended up right here one way or another, and really, he was grateful for the trust Keigo had in him to bring him with him to such a vulnerable position.
The week leading up to this meeting had been long and filled with nerves, but Touya had done his best to help Keigo trough it.
Mostly they had just stayed distracted, but as they were sitting here now, waiting for the owl guy, Mera, Touya reminds himself, his name is Mera, Touya starts thinking that might not have been the best idea to go about it.
Keigo's eyes are wide and large, his hair is messy from how much he's ran his hand trough it, his hands are slightly shaking, and all in all he looks so much like a lost baby bird Touya can hardly stand it.
Just as Touya reaches out to gently take Keigo's hand, the door opens and Keigo clothes Touya's hand with a vice grip.
Mera looked just like Touya remembered him, hair messy and feather-like not unlike Keigo's, dark circles still present, but he looked way less stressed than the last time they met.
At first they did the whole proper introduction thing, and Mera had enough mind not to comment on the fact that Keigo was couching Touya's hand still, but he did smile a little when he looked at them.
When they were done with the pleasantries quiet fell over them for a moment, before Keigo finally spoke up.
"Why..." he started, but his voice bristled and Touya gave his hand a gentle squeeze of support.
"Why did you ask to see me now?" Keigo finally asked, and Mera nodded slowly as he took in the question.
"That's a complicated question Chi-, erm, Keigo," Mera started.
Touya looked between then curiously at the name correction, and noticed a hint of a blush on Keigo's face.
"I'm sure you've worked out that I wasn't allowed any contact with you after your Hero Debut, which was horribly hard if I'm to be honest, and right after the Commission fell I figured you had more than enough other things to focus on," he finished, and Keigo nodded meekly.
Touya cleared his throat and two birdlike heads turned toward him in unison.
"Keigo's been working very hard, and he should be proud of how far he's come," Touya says without thinking, and Keigo turns bright pink.
Mera just smiles wistfully.
"I can see that, yes," he said warmly, and Touya could tell Keigo's posture got a little straighter at the praise.
Mera suddenly started to shuffle with his shoulder bag, and Touya and Keigo both perked up with curiosity.
"I wasn't allowed to of course," he started to explain as he pulled up a small stack of what looked like pictures from his bag.
"But I couldn't help myself when it came to pictures from your youngest days," Mera said with a small smile.
Keigo's eyes widened.
"You have... pictures?" he asked in a small voice, and Mera nodded.
"They would have had my head if they knew, but can you blame me?" he asked as he handed to two men the stack of pictures.
Touya had to properly work on himself not to make an embarrassing sound as he saw the first pictures because holy shit, that was the cutest thing he had ever laid his eyes on.
The first pictures seemed to be from right after Keigo arrived at The Commission, all his clothes too big, his body thin and weak, his eyes taking up most of his curious face.
After that it shifts to a slightly older Keigo, now in more fitted training clothes, hair growing long and messy, determined look on his little face.
The pictures grew more and more sparse as he grew, but there was pictures from every growth spurt, secretly snuck in birthday snacks, homemade party hats, the small collection of Endeavor merch slowly growing.
As Keigo grew older and shifted into a teen the pictures turned into embarrassed looks and eyerolls from the lanky teen who's wings were suddenly bigger than his body, and Touya felt a soft spot for the small glimpses of normality hidden between the cracks of such a rough adolescence.
After he's looked trough all the pictures once Keigo slowly starts going trough them again, but this time he looks up at Mera as he goes.
"When was this?" he asks carefully as he holds up the first picture, the one showing a way too tiny Keigo in a way too big t-shirt nervously clutching the very same Endeavor toy Touya knew he still had in his nightstand.
Mera hummed sadly.
"The first night you were with us," he explains as he reaches for the picture to look at it properly.
"You're in my shirt actually, The Commission didn't have anything that fit you yet. I was worried you wouldn't be ablate sleep in a new place with new people, but you slept for almost 12 hours that night."
Touya's heart breaks a little, but Keigo just smiles.
He shuffles trough some more pictures before he holds up the one where he's in a proper uniform for the first time.
It looks eerily like the old hero suit, or at least the shirt under the jacket.
"I remember this," Keigo said softly.
"Yeah?" Touya asks, and Keigo nods.
"I'd just turned seven, and the Commission made a whole bunch of those uniforms just for me, it made me feel so special."
Mera sighs softly.
"You were special Keigo, but not only for the reasons they saw," he says seriously, and Touya watches curiously.
Keigo tilts his head.
"How you mean?" he asks, suddenly sounding way younger than he normally does.
Mera smiles wistfully.
"You were smart, fast and perceptive, yes, but you were also just incredibly sweet," he explains, and Keigo looks away bashfully.
Touya squeezes his hand.
"You had every right to be weary and bitter, but since that first day you hopped around after me like a duckling, curiously pointing out things I'd never noticed, smiling at everyone you saw, and no matter how much sternness and harshness you were met with, those parts of you never went away."
Keigo just shrugs awkwardly, but Touya understands.
"I might not ever be one to sing heroes praises, and I definitely do not think you were only acting out of your heart before the war, but even I can recognize that there was always something different about you," Touya says in a quiet but clear voice.
Mera doesn't say or do anything, simply listening, and Touya turned towards him to explain.
"It might not seem like a compliment now, but there was a reason I sought him out back when I was... back before."
Keigo gently squeezed Touya's hand, and a soft smile sneaked it's way onto Touya's face as he finishes explaining.
"You never really lost that curiosity and hopefulness towards other people, and I didn't realize it then, but I really needed that."
Mera looks between the for a moment, before he smiles again.
"I think you should keep this one, Chirps," he says to Keigo with a wink, and Keigo squawks embarrassedly as Touya grins.
"Awwh, Chirps?" he asks as Keigo hides his face in his hands and Mera chuckles.
Touya grins to himself as he takes in the scene and realizes that maybe Keigo had more of a parent in Mera than he realized.
After all, nobody knows how to embarrass you in front of your relatively new boyfriend like a parent.

❅ Sand and Snow | Chapter 1
ALL CHAPTERS HERE.
In the city of Odate, Akita, there have been multiple deaths in the past few weeks. The first-grade sorcerer Nanami Kento is sent out to investigate the snowy city, not knowing that it would be his last mission as a Jujutsu High student. OR: Why Nanami left Jujutsu High to become a corporate 9/5 slave.

DISCLAIMERS
* This is cross-posted from AO3, link here.
* This is a murder/mystery story. Like so, it contains depictions of violence that some readers may find disturbing.
* Classic Nanami and Gojo shenanigans will ensue. This is my copium.
* This fanfic is mostly built on original characters that are plot-centric (we need ppl to kill and to be questioned in a murder/mystery story, amiright?), though Nanami is the protagonist. There won't be any romance/smut/fluff/ship involved, but in case you don't like OC's at all, this story probably isn't suited for you.
* I wrote this in the most faithful way I could to JJK Canon and events, with the intention you could read this as an actual one-off light novel from the series (even inspired the writing on the translation from the official light novels). I hope you enjoy.
********************************
Chapter 1
Traveling alone became a common occurrence in Nanami's life ever since Haibara's death. More common still after his promotion — turning into a first-grade jujutsu sorcerer in his third year came with some perks, like a raise, for instance. But it also meant he would be frequently dealing with complex missions by himself. To fill up time, he was reading a pocket version of "The Devotion of Suspect X" by Keigo Higashino, as he drank a small and well brewed cup of coffee.
As Nanami approached his destination, he closed the book and started to mentally review the details of this mission. He anticipated it should take around a week for completion at most.
Around the city of Odate there had been 7 deaths, all containing traces of cursed energy. All involving poison. The presence of a cursed spirit was not out of the question, but considering the way those people died, a curse user was most likely. If that was the case, the curse user should be captured and taken in for questioning.
His phone rang. It was Yaga.
"Hello." he said, as he accepted the call.
"Nanami, be sure to report as soon as you get there, and report to me daily." Yaga replied.
"I will. Has something happened?"
"No, but those that sent this mission our way are very keen on accompanying every step taken." The contempt Yaga tried to hide in his voice was pretty clear.
"Fine. Let me know when and if Gojo is coming my way." The thought of meeting Satoru with his whimsical personality during a mission made Nanami involuntarily sigh.
Nanami was on his way to Odate because Jujutsu High's first choice, Satoru Gojo, was off on another mission that took longer than expected. This had been disclosed to Nanami right from the start. He would be there up until Gojo Satoru got to Odate or until he just finished the job by himself, whatever happened first.
He couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that they wanted to send Gojo, a special-grade sorcerer, on a mission suited for a first-grade, though. But dutiful as he was, Nanami simply did not spend his time questioning. Orders were orders, after all.
"About that… Gojo requested for you to work with him if you still haven't finished the job when he gets there.”
Nanami was annoyed.
"Why?"
"Who knows. He's always acting on a whim. Just accompany him. I have been told this is an important job, and you're the responsible one."
Nanami was annoyed, times two.
"Fine."
Getting “punished” with more work for being a good jujutsu sorcerer was the kind of thing that happened to him regularly. Not so different from a normal job. Nanami sighed and ended the call. There was now a pretty good incentive to get things done as fast as he could, and it didn't involve (just) overtime.
***
As the train came to a stop, the doors opened, letting a cold breeze seep in. I should get to the hotel and leave this luggage before I go out investigating, Nanami thought to himself, before stepping out and making his way onto the exit from the train station.
There were few to no taxis so early in the morning, so he just decided to walk. It wasn't terribly far, and it gave him the opportunity to look around the city for anything out of the ordinary along the way.
There were many snow sculptures by the roadside, and some ice figures resembling the Akita dog breed. At the end of February, Odate had many winter festivities, with a lot of Akita-dog related decor and souvenirs.
He had nothing against cold weather, but preferred the beach, ever so slightly.
Nanami picked up his phone and sent Yaga a text that said "I'm here. On my way to the hotel".
"Ok" Yaga replied instantly.
They must really be on his case, he thought, as it was out of character for Yaga to reply so fast. He usually had more things to deal with as the new Jujutsu High principal.
After an uneventful walk, Nanami got to the hotel and was greeted by a woman at the main desk.
"Good morning. My name is Yoko. How can I help you, sir?" She asked politely.
"I have a reservation."
"Perfectly. I need your full name."
"Nanami Kento."
The lady typed quietly on the keyboard, and around two minutes passed.
"Sorry, our systems are kind of slow today."
Nanami said nothing and just waited.
"Hey, Mr. Kento... Be careful."
That grabbed his attention. It was clearly not a threat, and the lady was visibly concerned, even though she tried to hide it.
"There have been some people dying these past few weeks. Somehow it hasn't made national news, and I can tell you're not from here. I mean, new face and all. So... Be careful, ok?"
"I appreciate your conce-"
"It was the majo!" someone shouted from the inside office. The lady got startled, and instantly irritated.
"Grandma, please stop with these silly superstitions!"
There were heavy and steady footsteps, and shortly after, an elderly woman came from the back office, raising a finger and pointing towards Nanami and Yoko.
"They are not superstitions. Hear me out! The majo, the witch, she did it!"
Yoko sighed and felt her third migraine of the week paying her a visit. Wednesday had barely started.
Nanami looked at her, as if asking for further explanation about what the old woman was talking about. She put on a cordial smile and started to speak.
"My grandmother has old superstitions about a woman that lives just outside the city. Her parents went missing when she and her brother were young, and they sell herbs and things like that. There is not much to it, but people in the city have had that long held superstition against their family for a while now."
Her smiling face and calm voice did not match the angry energy she was emanating.
The old woman interjected once again.
"Her parents went missing because she is a witch, and I bet you, these people dying must be related to all of that!"
The migraine had settled in.
"What 'all of that', grandma?"
The old lady gestured vaguely with her hands in the air, as if there was some obvious fact that everybody was unaware of.
The computer emitted a sound, and Yoko promptly grabbed a key and gave it to Nanami.
"Here. Room 409. If there is anything you need, you can just dial #903 for room service."
“Thank you. Excuse me.” he replied. As he started walking towards the stairs, it was possible to hear Yoko chastising her grandmother about scaring travelers and people she did not know. The words were followed by loud footsteps into the main office and a door being slammed.
As Nanami got to his room, he started texting Yaga.
NK: I'm at the hotel. There is a local superstition around a person whom they call “a witch”. I've been told this person deals with herbs and medicinal plants, so they probably also have poisonous ones. I will be checking this out before going elsewhere.
MY: Let me know if you find anything. Also, talk to Ijichi, he will assist you researching this.
After settling in, Nanami got out of the hotel and started walking down the street, intent on questioning people about it. He failed to notice the man following him from afar.
***
It was already two in the afternoon, and he figured he might as well stop and eat something for lunch. After all, expenses were completely paid for.
As Nanami went inside the restaurant, he went over mentally the information he got about the family.
The Yamadas were a pretty old family in that region, and most lived northwest of Odate. After the disappearance of some of the family's members, mainly a couple with two children, most relatives just left the city. Aside from that, there was not much else to be said about them. Nanami had already sent Ijichi all the details he was able to gather and asked for research as soon as possible.
His phone lit up. It was Ijichi.
KI: Hey, Nanami, I found some interesting things.
NK: Tell me.
KI: So, the Yamadas were a family of jujutsu sorcerers, it seems.
Nanami felt that was definitely suspicious, to say the least.
KI: Apparently, they had little to no ties to Master Tengen or anything. They were all from that region of Odate, but most of the members have since disbanded throughout Japan in the last 10 years. I couldn't find much in the archives, especially about cursed techniques that run in the family.
NK: I see. Let me know if you find anything else.
 KI: No problem.
***
After some asking around, Nanami finally got to Yamada's “witch” house. It was pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and a snow-covered dirt road led the way there through the woods. As he was approaching from the forest quietly, he could see a lady with short black hair and a pretty thick coat putting some food bowls by the side of the house. He didn't see or sense anything particularly suspicious. The house was considerably big, having two separate floors and a very traditional Japanese ceiling for snowy weather.
Not long after she put the bowls, the lady whistled loudly. A fox came out of the snowy forest and started eating.
"There you go, Haru. Eat well!" she said, as she went inside the house.
Nanami was unsure if he should go question the woman, or if he should simply stay hidden and watch for anything strange. After all, this could be nothing, or she could be a sorcerer that would attack him on sight. He chose the latter, and sat down near some bushes as he paid attention to the house and its apparently sole resident.
From the frosty windows, he could see her in the kitchen, sitting idly while drinking something from a cup. Behind the house, there was a greenhouse with many pots of plants and other greeneries planted directly on the soil.
This will take a long time, Nanami figured, feeling disheartened for having to work late that day. Resigned, he used his flip phone to take a picture of the house and waited. He got to see the fox finish its food and go back into the woods.
Around an hour later, there were some scratching sounds that he could not really see what was the source. The lady came out of the house, sprinting hastily to the other side, where Nanami was having a difficult time seeing her. He moved his position to try and see where she was headed, and walked quietly around from the opposite side in a semicircle, but she had vanished. The fox from earlier was there, looking directly at him.
He went into alert mode, but before he could do anything, Nanami felt somebody get behind him.
The sound of a gun being loaded could be heard, and he froze on the spot.
"Raise your hands. Who are you and why are you watching me?" a female voice asked.
"I'm someone investigating the deaths that have been occurring in Odate". He said, as he was lifting his hands and putting them on his head. Nanami figured there was not much of a point in lying. She didn't ask why he was there, but why he was watching her, so she probably had noticed it for a while. Also, if she was a curse user that wanted to harm him, she would've probably done so by now.
"Turn around."
He turned to face her.
She was pointing a small handgun at him, keeping her distance. Her green eyes seemed irritated. He could probably disarm her and further question the woman on the subject, but weighing his options, it felt more responsible to avoid conflict escalation.
"Look," she said, picking her words carefully. She sounded annoyed, but not scared. "I don't know what you've heard about me or this house, but I am not a witch, and I'll tell you what I already told the officer, I didn't kill anyone."
She examined his face.
"Why are you pointing a gun at me, then?" He asked.
"I'm a woman living alone in the woods, and a creep has been stalking me for god knows how long. Sorry if I chose to pull a gun first and ask questions later."
Both of them examined each other, and the air was tense. She seemed inclined to simply let him go, and his instinct was that she harbored no ill intent on hurting him out of anything other than self-defense. He decided to try to de-escalate the situation further.
"My name is Nanami Kento."
She was slightly taken aback, as she didn't expect him to present himself like that given the circumstances.
"I'm... Shiori. Yamada Shiori."
"I'd like to ask you some questions about these deaths. I'm a private investigator of sorts. Preferably without a firearm between us." Nanami said calmly.
She hesitated and examined him. Her instinct was that he was telling the truth. After a few seconds, her arm relaxed, and she put the gun down, then inside her coat.
"Ok. We can talk." Shiori said. "But I'm keeping the gun on me."
Nanami sighed as he lowered his arms. "Fair enough."
She pointed at the house. "And you go first."
They walked towards the house, and she unlocked the front door, letting him in. She indicated a table where he could sit, and pulled a chair for herself. Once both were seated, as Nanami was about to say something, she took a crystal ball from her other pocket.
"Here. Please hold this."
Nanami thought about it for a second, and held the ball in his hand. The small sphere started to glow blue after about 5 seconds. "Tsk", Shiori groaned, "Figures."
"Sorry, I don't understand."
"Where are you from? Kyoto?" She asked, grabbing the crystal from his hands. "Is this really about the deaths, or are you guys here to try to recruit me and my brother? He is away, just so you know."
Nanami was confused, and it must have shown.
"You're a jujutsu sorcerer, aren't you?" She asked. "Look." The crystal was glowing in her hands too. "This is my sort of 'jujutsu sorcerer detector'. The last time one of you came was a few years ago, so I'll just cut to the chase. I'm happy in the woods, and I don't want to go to Jujutsu High — I’m actually 18 now, and have just graduated. Please, leave me alone."
This was definitely not how Nanami expected this conversation to go, and he definitely did not expect to be dealing with cursed objects in Odate. After collecting his thoughts, Nanami started to speak.
"I'm here because of Jujutsu High, but I came from Tokyo on a mission regarding the deaths that have occurred recently. I questioned a few people and after some research, found that your family had sorcerers, and that you and your brother work with medicinal plants. Given the cause of those deaths was poisoning, I came to your house for further investigation." He answered bluntly.
"I see." She put the crystal ball back inside her pocket. "You're not the first one to think that, though. A police officer was here a few days ago. Those town's people still hate us, even centuries later, simply for being Yamadas. But I truly had nothing to do with those deaths."
"I see." Nanami muttered the thought for a moment. "And do you have an innate cursed technique?" Cursed techniques in sorcerer's families that were passed through generations were common, even if those that involved poisoning their victims weren't that common.
She was a little surprised with the question. "Well, it has nothing to do with poison, I can tell you that much. I can show you, but it can't be done inside the house."
"Why?"
"Because I still want to have a roof over my head. Come." She pointed to the door, and they went outside. Behind the house, there were plenty of wide holes in the ground just barely covered in snow, something he hadn't noticed earlier.
"Please, step back." She concentrated, put both hands together and said "cursed technique: melt grenade". Then, Shiori threw a small blue ball of cursed energy towards the holes. It exploded loudly, and made a hole around 2 feet deep, covered in a thick corrosive black substance.
"That's all?" Nanami asked. He waited for a response, but after a few seconds of silence, looked at her just to see Shiori falling to the ground. He started walking to her side offering assistance, but she was already sitting herself up, as if this was something the woman was accustomed to.
"Yes. That is all. I can only throw one or two of these before passing out." She stood up slowly. "So this is it. Unfortunately, there is not much I can do to help you." She had a surprisingly laid back approach, even if the circumstances they had met were somewhat odd.
Nanami sighed. At least this explained why she used a gun. Nevertheless, it was a dead end, after all.
"I was told you had a brother. Where is he?" He asked.
"My brother decided to do some traveling about a year ago. He went looking for our parents. I told him it was a bad idea, but he did it anyway. I don't know where he is currently." Shiori responded. "His name is Shiro. Our parents weren't very creative naming twins".
"Well, I won't occupy you any longer. I'll be on my way, then." Nanami said, as he bowed and started to leave.
"It's fine. But if you come by again, please, just knock on the door." Shiori responded with a half smile, putting her hands inside her pocket while she calmly walked back inside the house.
***
Back at the hotel, Nanami was on the phone talking to Yaga and giving him his report on the investigation. He informed Yaga about Ijichi's findings, and the conversation he had with Shiori.
"I see." Yaga said. "Keep an eye on her, though."
"Why?"
"Well, she has a cursed object we were not aware of. Doesn't seem like anything serious, but she could be hiding something."
"I understand." Nanami pondered for a moment. "She had some visitors from Jujutsu High years ago, more specifically from the Kyoto sister school, according to her."
"We usually scout families that have a history with jujutsu for potential students, but they don't always accept the invite." Yaga replied. "I didn't know she was one of the people we visited."
Nanami, still on the phone, walked towards the TV and turned it on. Local news had an urgent news broadcast on.
"Well, I imagine this is it for resting today." he said.
"I'll make the necessary calls. Go there now." Yaga replied.
He sat on the bed as he heard the reporter say police had just discovered a new body.
"I'm charging overtime fees."

Frivolities
character: hawks
reader: gender neutral
content warnings: intrusive/suicidal thoughts
notes: also on ao3. 2k word count. pre-series. "hawks-centric" in a way that's more about hawks and less about the reader.
Soul sold, the boy known as Takami Keigo was no more. A pretty bird, Hawks preformed tricks for pellets, beaten and battered, and at age eighteen he was ranked tenth in the Pro Hero Charts. An impressive feat, for one so young.
Working hard and wishing he wasn’t working at all, he woke up again and again. And again and again. And again and again.
---
He remembers suffering, pain, and endurance. Most of it came from living within the organization. His handlers, while allowing him more of an insight to the world than ever before, were no less cruel than the ones who drove him there in the first place. As the years passed by, he grew far from that scrawny little boy he had once been—but he still felt no more of a man than before. And when he opened up his own hero agency, he constantly felt waterlogged and wrung out; schedule leaving little time for rest, always something to do, always on the move.
Despite his successes—going above and beyond, reaching higher and higher—he couldn’t seem to escape the cage he had been placed in, all those years ago. There were many rules he had to abide by and regulations to follow; driveling and snooze-inducing topics that didn’t really matter in the end and that he didn’t care much for. He couldn’t help but laugh about it—like a pet bird, he thought. Cooped up and clipped wings, meant only to flutter an inch off of the ground, stand there pretty, parrot phrases said a thousand times over.
He wasn’t allowed any friends. They were a distraction, they told him; he should work hard, keep busy. There was even the order that he was not allowed to date. Any type of relationship, whether it was romantic or sexual, would not only be quickly made public but labeled as a sign of rebellion and opposition to the organization that had treated him so well. Manipulative. Deliberately threatening what little privacy he had. Stripping him bare for all the world to see.
When he met you, he was twenty. He had recently ranked within the top five in the Pro Hero Charts. Despite trying to beat it out of him, Hawks had always had a bit of a rebellious streak—a life of strict handlers and rigorous outlines had shaped him quite a bit differently than they had expected—but after taking the fifth slot, he had decided to test exactly how secure the latch on the cage door really was. And while that might sound like something much more devious to an onlooker, for Hawks, it simply meant rattling the bars for a bit. For fun.
He phrased it much like he’d heard countless of times before, scrolling through social media: he needed some mental health days. He didn’t know this himself—didn’t allow himself the chance to know, really—but he really did need it. He went on vacation. It took a lot of convincing for it to get approved by his handlers, much less getting it past the higher ups—he just ranked fifth, it’d do wonders to ride that high, they insisted.
Regardless, his time off—his first ever official, willing, much awaited for and desired time off—went through. To celebrate, he slept for most of the first day, only leaving his bed to grab takeout at the front door and take the occasional trip to the restroom. He lavished in his slumber; since the transfer, he couldn’t find a single time in his life where he could sleep in late—much less was physically able to.
It was by the second day that the initial appeal wore off, and he found himself fidgeting about. Tossing, and turning, and very much incredibly bored; he missed his work, he found. As troublesome and uninspiring as the fact was—it was sadly true. Inevitable, even. At that point, he had spent the majority of his life working. It felt wrong to not be on his feet. He felt guilty channel-surfing.
The rest he had so constantly craved didn’t feel quite as rewarding as he thought it would be.
---
On the third day, he had decided a quick trip to the corner store couldn't hurt, as long as he was fast enough not to get noticed on the way there and back. He had to stretch his wings, surround himself with the sounds of everyday life. He was going stir-crazy cooped up in his nest—and that was a depressing thought. He put his shoes on and took a moment to ponder. Hawks was confident about his speed and agility—a nondescript trip to the convenience store should be easy. Within the organization, he was praised for his covertness, after all—was the fastest-rising hero, after all. It should have been easy.
It was not easy.
It was a saying that was ripped right off of a certain article headline—he was too fast for his own good. Despite his reflexes, despite all the training, the drills, the hardships he had to endure up until that point, he was just a bit too quick on the draw. When you are at your most cautious, that is when you are most likely to make a mistake—he had been told that many times. After ranking fifth, he had stopped listening.
It was on this third day that he met you. He didn’t run into you—couldn’t—but he very nearly did, bracing himself against the automatic doors, causing them to pop out of place by mistake. This is where he stumbled, weight suddenly shifting, but then he felt hands upon him—one on his shoulder, another at his chest, firm—and he regained his balance once more.
“Are you okay?”
He looked up. Your concern was plastered on your entire face—the angle of your brows, the seriousness of your eyes, so trained on him that he was struck, suddenly. Of all his years of being Pro, he has had a multitude of people worried for his well-being. At the top of the charts, it came with the job. Cheering, and screaming, and crying; many people cared about him.
When they needed him, that is.
You looked at him. You looked into his eyes, like you were peering into his soul, and asked him—“Are you hurt?”
He tried convincing himself that this was not a fight. Every bone in his body trembled with the force of it. It left him unable to breathe, the adrenaline coursing through him with an intensity he’s never felt before. He could be bleeding, he thought, idly. “No,” he said, eventually. He felt like he was losing. “No, I’m good. Dandy, even.” And it was habit more than anything, when he flashed you his most charming smile, “But thank you for worrying. I really appreciate it. Really.”
Sweat caught in his hairline, threatening, and he watched as you took in his features. The longer you stared, the more self-conscious he felt; how strained he must look, how tense his muscles must be beneath his shirt—you still held him, he realized, faintly. He felt like passing out.
And with that, he shot you finger-guns. He struck a little pose. He hated it. “I’m okay!” he backed away now, sidestepping around you and out the front door. Popping it back into place with more force than necessary, he laughed—a rough, loud thing—and with a wave of the hand, “Have a good day!” And he took off into the skies.
Rocketing above the clouds, he told himself—I’m okay. I’m okay. I’m okay.
---
Two days later, he remembered that he had wanted the sort of fried food you can only get at a convenience store. The salty-cheap kind, the perfect kind, the quickie-chickie kind. The city was big, he thought, the world even bigger, so when he nearly ran into you again he felt as if someone must be pulling at some unseen strings somewhere, up in the heavens. Like he could look up to find the curtains rising. They never did, of course. They didn’t exist.
What he got instead was your voice again—exactly the same from within his dreams—asking, “Are you okay?” Hands at his shoulder and chest, you steadied him. The door clunked beside you.
Eyes skybound, he pursed his lips. Puckered them. Exhaled. Then he nodded, slipping out of reach, and jammed the door straight. “Yes,” he said. “Yes, I’m good. Great, even.” And even though his wings fluttered and he felt his feathers start to rise, he asked with a quirked brow—“Are you okay? I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
It took you a moment to answer, watching him toe further and further away. “Yeah, I…” And it was at this point where a familiar glint in your eyes appeared, and you did a double-take. “Hawks?”
Despite the immediate bile rising to the back of his throat, his smile came more naturally this time. Dancing backwards, he flapped his wings; once, twice, he was off his feet. Saluting, he spun, gave a flourish, and was off.
---
He was twenty, number five, and on vacation for the very first time. Fried chicken was good, he remembered, sitting in the shadow of a tree, down several back-roads, obscured from sight, and chowing down on some karaage next to you. It was the day after your second encounter; he had entered stage left to see you center stage once again.
His sixth day off in a row; summer, the sun setting down towards the horizon line, and the convenience store door had been knocked out of its slot once again. He had laughed, head thrown back at the obscurity of it all, and rammed it back into place. He offered to buy you a snack, an apology for bothering you so—he insisted—but once he had his receipt, he didn’t turn tail and run. Not this time.
No, he invited you to come sit with him, enjoy the sunset, talk for a bit. You were on his mind, constantly, and he almost told you as much. Almost. You, who looked at him, point-blank, and not wondered for your own safety. He learned your name and your occupation, what it was that you did throughout the day, and what brought you to the corner store. He stuffed his face; and it’s not like you didn’t know who he was—you recognized him, of course—but there was just something about you. He couldn’t quite place it. Your pretty eyes and the way they looked at him. His heart thumped in his chest.
What was it about you?
He pondered this as he spoke, vividly, about his favorite hero. He couldn’t quite remember how the two of you got on that topic in the first place but you were laughing at the unconventional taste of it—and everything else then ceased to matter.
His heart thumped in his chest. He couldn’t breathe. The hairline at the nape of his neck was damp with it—the sudden urge to fling himself across the country. To fly so far up, so fast, he’d completely lose air. You looked at him, so earnestly, and he thought: oh. Your face. Your smile. Your eyes on him and him alone. And he was used to the attention—number five and all wrung out—but there was something about your gaze that struck him to his core, made him feel frozen and burned from the inside-out all at once.
Oh no.
He was not allowed to date. He didn’t have that luxury, the private life. No, he could not be with you. Oh, how he wanted to. Wanted to flip out his phone—and show you the little Endeavor charms, just to see you point out all the artistic liberties—and ask for your number. To ask you out. Hope and pray a disposable face mask would help disguise him enough. He considered the possibility of renting out an entire restaurant, just to secure his own concealment. He hoped you liked umai.
But would the staff talk? Would you? Would there be lenses positioned at the entrance, already phoning the tabloids—already phoning his handlers? The Secret’s Out! Love Bird Hawks!
He wiped the grease away on the leg of his pants, hand lingering over his pocket. You were telling him about your favorite hero—their aesthetics and sense of justice—but you paused, suddenly. He looked up.
“Oh,” you seemed nervous. “N-not that you aren’t amazing as well, Hawks...! Didn’t you just rank number five? And it’s only been, what, two years since you debuted?” You tinkered with the keyring in your lap as you spoke, fiddling with the dangling chain, almost discreetly. He couldn’t help it. He looked down. There, between your clamped fingers, sat an acrylic charm. The light hit it, just so, revealing a brilliant scarlet. You fidgeted. A feather.
His smile felt strained, threatening to disappear off of his face as the bile rose once more. “Time moves so fast,” it felt like a slog. Each day crawling along with an itinerary several miles long. He wanted to tear it up, desperately, into tiny little shreds, burn it to ash, and throw himself into the pyre as well. “Tenth feels like it was just yesterday.”
He didn’t ask for your number. He resolved to never go to that corner store ever again.
On that sixth night, he laid in bed, alone, thinking about his favorite hero. Number two. He wondered what that was like, as he watched the moon up in the sky, higher than he could ever dream of flying; his body the cage that tethered him. He wondered what that was like. Number two. Endeavor, his brilliant, blazing inferno in the sky, embers in his wake, impeccable track record, eyes on the prize—but never enough. Hawks watched the moon up in the sky between the gaps in the window blinds, strained and worn out, chasing, and wondered—will it ever be enough?
---
The next morning, he went back to work.

After The War: Trials, Tribulations, and Theatre
by Imaginative_Inkings
"...Why are you still writing?" "...Well, because... there are still some pages left."
~~~ Neither Dabi nor Hawks believed there would be an after - after revenge, after the Commission, and least of all, an after worth living.
Now, after the war and after the Commission "disbanded", everyone insists that 'after' is here. So, they learn to build one. The past never dies - and as much as it may haunt them, it can also be the foundations for their future.
OR: The League (including Twice) is alive and (physically) well (for the most part). Touya is in recovery, and is very displeased about it. Hawks think’s he’s healed, he is wrong. Shigaraki and Spinner open a shelter, with the help of a few others. The former-Commission is not happy about this.
Here it is, y'all!! the ✨lore post✨ for my living doll au :]
CW// discussion of murder, implications of violent acts, implications of body horror/dismemberment, mild grief/themes of loss, very minor suggestive themes?
Er, it's more of a plot post actually? The storyline~
(super long post, I'm sorry lol)
EdgeJeanist centric + some background EraserMic family, rooftop trio, and Mt. Kamui + also Rumi and Keigo being annoying (affectionate) ✨
edit: (whispers) Please check out my animatic for this au if you haven't seen it yet, I worked so hard on it ty <3
Ok, so it starts out with Tsunagu.
[Current time frame is roughly adjacent to the Victorian Era, but it's more of a fantasy-ish world not exactly rl]
He's a tailor who enjoys his craft very much 🧵🪡 But he gets *ahem* ✨hate crimed✨ (murdered) (also hate crimed though. it was a hate crime.) (his corpse was left to rot.)
Fortunately for him, a benevolent spirit passing through the living realm discovered him. Pitying the poor soul whose life was unjustly cut short, he gifted Tsunagu a chance at another life—along with some spooky cool new spirit realm abilities and a brand new look ✨
Back in the living world, in comes Shinya—who was familiar with (and lowkey crushing on) Tsunagu at the time.
He's the first to notice that his favorite tailor is missing, so of course he starts searching. That ends up getting him killed as well, though. (Can't let there be any witnesses, right?)
HOWEVER Tsunagu finds him and uses his newly gifted abilities to (literally) stitch him back together—like a doll :)
Shinya wakes up in the spirit realm, undead and wrapped up in one of Tsunagu's scarves <3
("A gift. To celebrate the start of our newfound afterlives," Tsunagu had said when he asked about it)
In honor of the spirit's kindness, they vowed to use Tsunagu's gift to rescue lost souls who were similarly fucked over in their lives ✨
Over the years, their relationship solidifies—it doesn't progress (romantically (yet)) or anything, but they're close.
(edit: actually, I've decided that they're fuck buddies. it makes more sense for the plot in my head, I think. I'm also a sucker for fuck buddies to lovers. and now this is a fuck buddies to lovers story.)
They live in a mansion in the spirit realm, fulfilling their vow and offering second chances to those whose first chance was ripped away from them. Tsunagu is the head of the house, making sure everything is in order (and lovingly referred to as The Seamstress by the dolls); Shinya is his closest friend and confidant.
Most of the dolls leave after they're revived to explore the spirit realm and find their own path, but some of the dolls choose to stay. Of which include Rumi: a victim of a brutal serial killing, Keigo: who was wrongfully hanged for a crime he did not commit, and Shinso: an unfortunate casualty from a violent accident.
(Shinya stays too, of course.)
Ok, we're switching focus for a sec and also fast forwarding
Closer to modern day, we have Aizawa, who runs an orphanage with Nemuri, and Bakugo, who was recently orphaned.
Bakugo is (as anyone would be) distraught and unstable with his grief over losing his parents. He decides to try reaching out to the spirit realm to at least talk to them one last time, but it backfires as he encounters a demonic spirit and it attacks him.
Aizawa hears the commotion and rushes over to find Bakugo only half alive and critically injured with a curse on his soul. The effects of the attack are far beyond what human doctors would be able to mend.
Luckily, Aizawa has his own connections to the spirit realm (via a guardian spirit named Hizashi who visits him regularly).
He remembers Hizashi telling him about a certain spidery spirit who might be able to help, and he rushes to bring Bakugo to the spirit realm (leaving Nemuri in charge). The ritual costs him an eye and the spirit realm is dangerous for living humans, but it's a price he willingly pays.
Back to the mansion
It's a fairly normal day for everyone, taking care of household chores, tending the garden and whatnot—until a living human comes desperately knocking at the front door.
Everyone freaks out for a moment because this is unheard of. Despite that, Tsunagu welcomes Aizawa in and rushes Bakugo to the infirmary with no hesitation.
Tsunagu just manages to get Bakugo stable. However, he can't fix everything and the curse still remains, slowly but surely draining away at Bakugo's life. He's stable for now, though. Now, they just need to figure out how to save him for good.
Tsunagu also patches Aizawa's eye up, and they speak for a moment, discussing what happened and what they can possibly do. But with no clear answer, they decide that Aizawa would stay in the ✨Doll House✨ with Bakugo until they can find a cure.
(On a lighter note, I'm imagining a scene where they bring Aizawa to the dining hall so he can get something to eat, but since none of the dolls nor Tsunagu need to eat anymore, their kitchen is pretty much empty (save for some moldy bread and questionable canned meat lol). So Rumi and Keigo go on a silly little side quest to obtain some Edible™ food for their guest.)
Anyways.
Have I mentioned that Shinya is down bad for Tsunagu? Has been for the past two centuries? Because he is, and Rumi and Keigo know it. Tsunagu knows it too (and also knows that the feelings are reciprocated, but neither of them have made a move).
Problem is that because of the whole "holy shit you saved me and brought me back to life (literally)" thing, Shinya wholeheartedly believes that Tsunagu is. totally out of his league.
And that only hits harder when Tsunagu starts spending more time with Aizawa. Nothing more than working with Bakugo, but time spent nonetheless. It makes Shinya anxious and just a tad bit jealous.
Why wouldn't a living person who, despite being in a damn near hopeless situation, risked everything to try and save someone.. be more attractive than... a servant with a life debt..?
He tries not to worry about it because no, that's stupid, there's no reason to be jealous—
But then Tsunagu gives Aizawa a scarf. One of his hand-made scarves, of which the only other person who owned one (other than Tsunagu himself, of course) was Shinya.
It unsettles him a little bit. (It shouldn't, he tells himself, but it does.)
What unsettles him more though is the state that poor Bakugo is in.
He spends the next several days alongside Tsunagu, desperately trying everything they could to reverse the curse. From potions to incantations to cantrips...
Nothing seems to work.
Shifting focus again for a sec—to Shinso this time!
He approaches Aizawa not long after he arrives and just... asks questions.
They talk. About the living world, about what being alive is like.
(Shinso died when he was 16 years old, and he missed being alive more than all the others. He was the youngest out of all the dolls. No one was even sure if he would be able to grow up, or if he'd just be stuck at 16 forever.)
So he found comfort in Aizawa. This living person who could give him a glimpse into the life he couldn't have.
Rumi and Keigo hang out with Shinya like usual—and being the little shits (affectionate) they are, they pester him about his relationship with Tsunagu.
He tries brushing them off, changing the conversation topic to Bakugo, but they read right through him ofc so he just. leaves. lol.
Essentially they follow him, trying to cheer him up lol
They pass by Bakugo's room and overhear a conversation between Tsunagu and Aizawa. Tsunagu is talking about how similar he and Aizawa are, in that Tsunagu is the head of a house of lost souls and Aizawa is the caretaker of an orphanage. Something they can connect over.
Shinya overhears all this. He's a little more upset about it than he would like to admit.
Of course Tsunagu notices something is up, though
So sometime later, he finds Shinya and they have a little one-on-one chat.
It's not exactly that they sort things out... but they clear up the jealousy bit—and their relationship *ahem* strengthens. *ahem ahem*
(It's not exactly settled though, and it's not like Shinya's insecurities just suddenly vanished. those are definitely still there.)
More days are spent trying to save Bakugo, along with no success. Bakugo is looking worse by the minute.
(Shinya and Tsunagu continue to..... *enhance* their relationship when they're not busy, too. but that's besides the point.)
Things are interrupted when a living doll shows up at the door alongside a guardian spirit.
(The doll is Shirakumo, and Hizashi is the spirit.)
They brought a recently deceased girl—no older than ten years old—for Tsunagu to bring back to life.
Everyone's... heartbroken. at how young she is.
Eri is scared when she wakes up, absolutely terrified of everyone, and of Tsunagu specifically. She stays close to Aizawa, because he's the only living person there (aside from Bakugo) and everyone else is scary to her :(
(she ends up growing closer to Shinso too (after she realizes he's not so bad; he's also the only other kid there), she grows to see him as a big brother of sorts <3 )
Later that day, in another vain effort to try and find a cure, Shinya goes through the garden to see if any of their ✨magic✨ herbs/plants would be any help. However, he ends up instead getting hit by some spores that essentially get him super drunk, and Tsunagu has to come rescue him. Again.
Cue scene of him just drunkenly fucking sobbing in Tsunagu's arms about how he's always been the one to save him and now he can't even find a way to save the poor kid so how can he ever possibly hope to repay him back for that and that he'd never be deserving of his love—
The next day (sober and admittedly very embarrassed), Shinya spends the next day by himself in the mansion's library. He sorts through the books and files, trying to get his mind off things, and he stumbles upon a letter addressed to Tsunagu and signed by someone named Nishiya.
(It turned out to be a response to a thank you note Tsunagu had written for the spirit that had originally brought him back to life all those years ago.)
Shinya made two realizations in that moment:
1. If this spirit was powerful enough to gift Tsunagu his abilities and bring him back to life, then he might be able to cure Bakugo.
2. He could follow the address to find the spirit—Nishiya. It was risky, as not only was the spirit realm perilous to traverse (even for the undead), but there was no guarantee that he would even find this spirit.
But they were also running out of options.
He makes a plan to follow the address, finds a map he can use, and packs some supplies—some magic thread (procured from the Seamstress himself) to suture his body and soul back together should he need it—to bring along just in case. Rumi and Keigo also manage sneak up on him and convince him to let them tag along.
(Their reasoning was that Oboro and Hizashi were staying to lend a hand anyways, and they allegedly also had some connections that might help them find Nishiya. Which was pretty damn convincing.)
The connections that Keigo had turned out to be a young spirit guide named Tokoyami
He leads them through the world, following the map they have. There's some obstacles on the road, but some other spirit guides (Sero and Kaminari :) ) help them get through ✨
Finally, they find a river marked on their map, on the other side of which should be Nishiya's home—except they happen to encounter the demonic spirit that originally injured Bakugo before they can cross
The demon realizes there are living souls involved and immediately decides that it's going to go finish the job, so Rumi and Keigo fight it to try and hold it back. They send Shinya to go ahead and find Shinji. Hopefully before the demon escapes...
... and Luckily he finally finds who he's looking for! Only... he finds him crying the river he just crossed.
When Shinya asks Nishiya what's wrong, he explains how he fell in love with a mortal woman (Takeyama) while he was travelling through the human realm, but she was dreadfully killed.
Shinya finds her and brings her back for him. because that's just what dolls of The Seamstress do :)
(Technically, he himself doesn't have that power, but he used the thread from Tsunagu that he brought. and also you don't just spend two centuries with a necromancer without picking up a few tricks lol)
When they reunite—this undead human and his ethereal god-like spirit—Shinya has this moment of realization
It doesn't matter if he doesn't think he's good enough for Tsunagu bc none of that matters, friendship is magic y'know (lol)
Still, Nishiya gives him more than he asked for as a thank you.
JUST IN TIME TOO. Rumi and Keigo are unable to hold the demon back any longer and it takes off towards the mansion. They take off after it.
SO THE DEMON ATTACKS MANSION
Hizashi and Oboro reach it first, try to fight it, and pretty much get tossed aside by this thing :(
The demon reaches Aizawa and Bakugo; Aizawa tries protecting Bakugo and nearly gets annihilated instead—his leg gets mauled off by the demon :(
Cue angry spider Seamstress fighting the demon to protect his family <3
He manages to hold him off, but starts losing pretty quickly. this demon is POWERFUL ok
but then IN SWOOPS SHINYA!! ~With a ✨brand new look✨
Together with Tsunagu (and the other dolls + Hizashi), they manage to drive the demon off!! BEGONE DEMON yeah >:)
At the end, they have the whole heartwarming reunion thing, but NOT before Shin'ya uses his ✨new abilities✨ to lift Bakugo's curse... and it works!!
Shinya also stitches up Tsunagu, who was pretty badly injured in the fight with the demon... so now they match!! Tsunagu also sort of freaks out about where Shinya's been and why he didn't tell anyone and what the HELL is up with his new look and how glad he is that he's back—
(A side note about Shinya's ✨new look✨~ he's more powerful now, about the same level as Tsunagu (except he can heal the living instead of bringing back the dead).
He also has moth wings now!! His new role from heron out is to be a guide for rescued souls.
Moths can be messengers, symbols of death, but they're also attracted to light. In this case, he is a beacon for life :) )
Things are resettled from here, happy ending :)
Well, kinda. Shinya and Tsunagu have their whole thing, but Eri and Shinso can't follow Aizawa back to the living world...
BUT! that's ok because Hizashi and Oboro agree to take care of them in his stead :) and they make plans to visit the living realm (and for Aizawa to visit them) when they can <3
(Imagine those four exploring the spirit world together!! having adventures, waiting for the next opportunity to see Shota again 🥹)
now it is a fairly happy ending.
ok that's all I have!! I hope y'all like this. It's not my best work but I think it's still a neat world!! :'))
thanks for reading!!! <3
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤
What a lovely writing meme, thanks for sending it my way! And thanks to @bittermoonswrites and @draphrawrites for thinking of me as well! I'm answering you all at once 💙
First I have to mention my one longfic, Butterfly Effect. If you're new here, it's an exploration of Dabi, Hawks, and the Todofam. It began as a dabihawks project but then sort of muted into my own idea of how all of these plotlines could've intersected and given the characters closure and healing. As my first and only longfic it has a lot of imperfections, but I hold it very dear to my heart. I even printed a copy for myself and I reread bits of it from time to time
Then for sure Stitches deserves a mention. As you may know from my meta, conflicting relationships rife with miscommunication and ugly feelings are one of my fav things to write about, and here I did just that. Set in a canon divergent timeline, Dabi is taken captive by the heroes instead of Compress and does his time in Tartarus. There, the monotony of his captivity is interrupted by a visit from his mother, and they finally have a chat after 10 and some years
Cold feet is another big favourite of mine. This one didn't get as much attention as some of my other dbhwks works, and I wonder if it's because I write an unpopular, canon-adjacent Dabi that the fandom doesn't much vibe with. But that's exactly what I love about this story! :') Personally, I think this is one of the best Dabis I've ever written. I tried to explore the duality of his need to be noticed and valued for who he is vs his fear of being vulnerable, all filtered through Hawks' similar self-repression & devil may care mask. If you want to make me happy, give this a read. It might not be your cup of tea in the end but it would bring a smile to my face to know you gave it a chance :')
A thousand paper cranes is one of my most self indulgent works, and for that I must mention it. It's an AU where Touya and Keigo were trainees in the same HPSC hero program, until something went horribly wrong. basically it's a childhood friends to villain boyfriends journey with a twist :') I published this way ahead of its time. It would've done numbers if posted today. Smh.
My last fave is a still unpublished work, but if you're curious about it shoot me an ask and I'll share a snip. Since basically all recs on this list are character study pieces, you guessed it, so is this one. This time it's Todosiblings-centric. Pov Touya, post canon, deals with Touya's healing post war and explores his dynamic with all his siblings in an attempt to get them to finally talk about their problems. Actually, someone should kick my ass and tell me to finish it. I exhausted all my meta energy with ch 2 but the Fuyumi chapter needs to be wrapped up so I can post this 😭 smh the writer is such an ass for leaving me hanging like this (I'm the writer)
Thanks again for sending me this question! 💙💙
There was a crack and a pop of uncomfortable bones and muscles as Keigo made his way to “his” apartment, most of his feathers were missing and any not attached were for certain being dragged behind him as if tied with string behind his own dragging wings, and Keigo could feel the mess of mostly dried stains in his wings that made his brain even more scattered about, wanting to preen and pick feathers until he would calm down. And yet he could feel the smile creeping in his face as he could imagine his best friends grinning faces at his state if they saw him coming back home.
Keigo doesn’t really bother with the keys somewhere along his full pockets, a feather quickly makes the way of the lock as soon Keigo had visual of the front door, and he just, leans into the apartment, ready to go face down in the at least cushy couch which was provided by the commission when he received the apartment (and most of the complex but of course those were only on his name in name, the commission always “managing” everything in his life-).
Instead, Keigo is surprised to see a different blond head shrieking as the automatic lights connected to the door activated, bleeding the house with overhead warm light instead of just the previous open fridge door light that was there, Toga Himiko was staring at him, probably trying to calm her heart at the sudden shift in the ambience. Keigo probably was exactly too tired to not even question on why the villain from the villain group both himself and Tou- Dabi were undercover, no, what he question was even more dumb.
“How… did you find this?”
Which props to Keigo a bit because that was a genuine baffling question, since most of the building complex was bought by the commission and the rest were on a rent basis, aka making it not be a place people really talked about, least of all any strange sightings they could have seen of one person or other. Tho the Keigo of right now was very much throwing himself in the big sofa that is the only thing they kept from the initial moving in, he spread out all of his limbs stretching out before just staying sprawling like a sea star, his feathers resting near but not much, so he could sense Toga start and stop, measuring her words to him.
“Well, I saw flambé getting in here, so, i assumed this was his…”
“It technically is, and mine, and owned by another one too”
He turned his head to have one eye looking at her, just noticing she was drinking one of Rumi’s plant milk based boxes, which made him gag the first time he tried one, so no thank you. Although the girl didn’t have the cornered animal look anymore, so that was a plus, the downside now is that teasing malice was what shined in those slitted eyes, and with a not necessary fanged smile.
“So you two DO have a thing!”
Keigo groaned, forfeiting the right of vision of the unnecessary fang showing, he knew Himiko fangs were retractable as his talons, and yet here she was rummaging the fridge and giggling like it was just a play. After a moment, his hunger was bigger than the cringe feeling, so Keigo righted his posture in time to see Himiko open the fridge again to look a bit more it seems..
Very lazy, Keigo ordered the feathers to bring his stached cuts of meat sponsored by Dabi chicken heming need to plan every meal in their house. Toga dodged the array like a second nature, still looked confused at him as Keigo himself smiled at the small tray of sashimi cuts and the sorted defrozen chicken they had, Keigo started with a drumstick.
"Why... are you eating that?"
Keigo thrilled, closest thing for a laugh with a whole drumstick in his mouth, and he almost choked at the gaping expression change to a jaw on the floor one as he audibly broke the bone in his bite.
"What?" He tried to say, but Keigo was very much still biting down onto the chilled chicken. So it sounded more like garble than anything else, which absolutely didn't help Toga expression at him
"Don't you have to like... cook that?"
Keigo shrugged, swallowing down.
"Do you have to cook and check for diseases in your blood?"
Himiko pouted, stomping one time on the floor. Keigo, who still very much lived with Rumi, waited for the tackle or the continued thumps as the rabbit became more impatient, or the shrill noise she would make when he or Dabi really got on her nerves.
Instead, Himiko only continued with a whine tone.
"That's different! You know that!"
"Literally how, you know there's a reason that I'm Hawks and not any other bird, you know?"
Keigo, who very much thought that expression was a dramatic media invention, wheezed and dropped the sashimi slice he was picking back in the tray as Himiko inflated her checks with an annoyed expression, and let all that air go immediately into a growl at Keigo reaction.
"Ok mister Hawks, what other bird would you be, huh?"
Toga swung the fridge door open again, sticking her head in cutting off Keigo vision of her.
After finishing that slice he dropped, he hummed out loud, thinking perhaps a bit much about the question.
"Vulture, perhaps, or Owl if I wanted to still have a hero theme and all."
Himiko shoot her head out, holding one of the fried buns Dabi liked to munch in her mouth but otherwise it was a surprised expression she gave him, which made him arch an eyebrow at her. She tried to talk, but clearly forgot the bun she was holding, but Himiko was fast enough to catch it before it fell on the ground. With a grumble again, she let it rest besides where the drink was left on the table top, and gone back to investigate what there was in their fridge.
"Didn't think you birdie would like those scavenger types"
Keigo snorted, and bit down on the last slice of the fish tray before answering.
"Well, our stomach compositions are practically the same, and there is a known bright red species, tho I think it was because they use makeup? I don't know, and they are cool."
"Do you think they are cool?"
Keigo was a bit rattled by how small Himiko voice got on the question, and he did have enough emotional intelligence to see that something in that was important to the girl.
Keigo shrugged knowingly that Toga couldn't see it and said.
"They are very cool, even if other people don't think that, they don't really care because they got their own thing you know, getting rid of infection and carcasses and all."
Keigo chirped when he felt the sofa dippen, tiredness was really eating at him at not noticing Toga coming, no sign of the milk drink but there were some of the buns in her lap, and Keigo could feel the avoided gaze of the girl, with her back firmly in his general direction. The only thing he hoped is that he didn’t accidentally anger the blood thirsty teen, Keigo continued to munch on bone and meat alike.
“Pick a number between 50 and 20.”
Keigo blinked, after finishing his last piece was the statement said. Looking at her, Keigo saw Himiko still wasn’t looking at him, only one bun remaining in her lap as the girl worked on the hair buns. Keigo pouted while thinking, absently minded taking the leftover trash to the trash or the sink.
“33”
“Left or Right?”
Keigo now turned to her, sitting cross legged and letting his wings sag behind him now that there was no task to be done.
“Right.”
“Red, blue or green?” Now Himiko turned at him, smile without fangs as she seems to give up on righting the buns and just let her hair go.
“Blue.” Keigo watched as she munched the fried bun left, still smiling at him, perhaps he looked funny when tired to her?
“Dawn or dusk?”
“Dawn, shouldn’t you go to sleep?”
The smile immediately falls, but there’s no pout, only slight squint at him with no force of a glare.
“Shouldn’t you?”
Keigo sighed. “Yeah i should, but you’re here, so…”
There’s the pout he wasn’t looking for.
“Well, i want to stay the night!”
“Cool, do you want to take a shower or just hit the hay?”
Himiko blinked wide-eyed at him, but Keigo was already set, his stray feathers reconnecting with his wings as he got up and stretched. Keigo headed to Dabi’s room in search of some night wear she would have.
“Wait! Are you being serious?!” Was called out, which Keigo couldn’t really respond with his face in a closet, but soon he found one of those long shirts with short sleeves that Dabi would wear in long free days.
“Yeah! Do you want me to run your outfit in the washing machine while you’re at the bath?” He peaked in Rumi’s room, grabbing one shorts of hers before coming back to the living room, with an easy smile on. Himiko was still where Keigo left her, now blinking wildly at him like he had grown another head.
With a tone to set the final nail on the coffin, Keigo did his final offer. “I could help do your hair, I know how to do a sick french braid!”
Now there was definitely a sparkle in her yellow eyes as Himiko quietly said. “Yeah”
There was more spark in Keigo smile now, exhaustion forgotten for a moment as he ushered the teen to the shower, making sure the spare clothes were in her hands before heading off to ready the sofa with the futon cover and some spare pillows, Keigo chuckled at the memory of the argument about that between the three and Keigo being very scandalized that Rumi only would take two and Touya would take one, his best friends and their lack of early back problems was a matter of scandalisation at the highest dramatic acti he would muster with them.
Things helpfully laid out in the couch, Keigo deemed the room lights to mostly dark but still able to see, and after some feather work, he could grab the left out dirty clothes without needing to open the door, and got to set up the washing machine with a bit of powder bleach besides the soap and vinegar, and chugged the cardigan, fuku, skirt and high socks, leaving the neckerchief aside for no color damage, Keigo learned his lesson with Rumi hero costume accident.
After that, Keigo resettled his sitting position, and perhaps struggled to stay awake a bit for Himiko to be finished, by the time the door opened from the showers, he was dropping his head from minute to minute.
“You better not sleep and mess my hair up.”
Keigo gestured for her to sit in front of him, not minding the threat since he was trained out of unsteady hands in exhaustion when he was 10.
“That’s depressing! Cats or dogs?” While the question was asked, Keigo busied his hands gently prying the hair and dividing in two, and getting to work in the left side again by dividing into three and starting the braid with light movements.
“Bunnies”
“Water or fire?”
“Fire” Keigo tugs a bit to get the braid firm, now to tuck it in, in a bun…
“Desk or couch?”
“Couch”
“Pokemon starter?”
“Pikachu”
“Lame, turtles or rays?”
“Manta” There, with two hair ties it was secure and frankly Keigo is proud of how it is looking so far, now to the other side.
“Plus or sub?”
“Plus”
“Beef or chicken”
“Chicken”
“Call or message?”
“Calls”
“Light or darkness?”
“Darkness. Finished, is it too tight?” Keigo leaned back admiring his work of making the buns not to flat but managing to have the circles more apparent since he managed to wrap the braid in itself that it was showing the hole in the wrapping in the center of both. It would probably fall away fastly, but Keigo knows his actual braids will last, when he did Rumi hair one time it lasted all morning without coming undone with the activity!
“Nop!”
“Well, then settle in, because i’m gonna snooze.” Keigo shuffled aside until he could stand again, and couldn’t force the yawn that resulted from it, but it was good fun seeing Himiko smile in the corner of his eye
“You still say that?” Himiko leaned, smile easy and a just a glint of teasing in her eyes that Keigo did notice were starting to drop.
“I say a lot of old slang when tired yeah.” Keigo absently nodded, rolling in the balls of his feet trying to stave off grogginess
“Grampa.” Keigo huffed, turning and starting his walk to his room.
“Goodnight my sweetheart!”
“Lame!!!” He let’s out a cackle in time of the teen, before Keigo is shutting the door and breathing out, not to relax per say, he is already calm enough, but something in this back and fourth make his mind cotton and heart ready to… do something, he wasn’t really sure what at this point, but it felt similar all those years ago, when Keigo was sure he would do anything for the other two best friends.
But sure is something different, since that was Toga, a 15 something year old villain, and he sure as hell didn’t feel like that to anyone in that age length and moral ground.
Whatever, Keigo took his shirt off and promptly fell in dreamless slumber the moment he relaxed against the bed and his pillow.
The doors of their apartment are well oiled, but it is still easy for booth Keigo and Rumi pick on any movement in their home, and Touya was as much as early riser as Keigo and stone cold sleeper, so, even if sleep clinging to his mind. His body tenses up, hand already curling around one of his old molt sharp feathers under the pillow, and Keigo wonders why the normal adrenaline hasn’t kicked up when the presence spoke, and of course he recognize it after one minute away from the interaction with her.
“Birdie.” There’s an yawn between. “Let me snuggle.”
“... what.”
“The sofa isn’t comfy.” Shuffling of feet, and confusion was what filled Keigo mind, since he knows for a fact that that sofa is extra comfy, and what would be the problem-.
Realization didn’t strike like thunder, and perhaps that was the motive of it leaving Keigo breathless, or because the memory hit him full of body slamming force, of himself shuffling towards his mother bed and quietly asking to join in. His hand trembled as he let go of the now soft feather and pushed up to look, his vision wasn’t as good in the dark as Rumi, but he could see clear enough to know the expression of slow regret and doubt on the normally smiling face.
Yeah, ok, maybe he now has a name for the feelings relating Himiko, and understands why To-Dabi would spend so much time with the girl outside the meetings with the league, but it all is just a maybe.
“Sure, get conforta-oof.”
Keigo had the mind to get his wings out of the way, but was still surprised at the velocity that Himiko springed out of the door into the bed. He wasn't winded by the impact, but more of the instinct chirp that left at the impact, with the breath Keigo took he could feel the girl snaking around him, but never really bringing arms up, and could smell the camomile and fresh grass that Dabi liked to use to get rid of smoke smell, and strong iron scent that made him gulp.
Himiko stilled, and settled down where she was mostly curled next to him.
Keigo counted four heartbeats, before overcoming the hesitation, wrapping both wing and arm around the teen, and waited eight more for Himiko stiffness to relax again into the mattress.
“Goodnight.”
Indemnification Via Integration
Indemnification via Integration by mentallypapaya
It was worth pointing out that he never actually managed to touch Katsuki's hair, because every time any part of Monoma's body came within close range of Katsuki's, like a reverse magnet, the sleeping figure would unconsciously move himself out of reach. As far as Hitoshi could tell, Katsuki was well and truly asleep during the whole interaction. It seemed to be a subconscious learned reaction to Monoma's presence. Hitoshi just wanted to know how that habit even began to form.
Monoma reached out a hand towards the sleeping head, and the sleeping head moved away in sync to the movement.
It was fascinating.
OR
Hitoshi's origins at Aldera, and how he went through the five stages of grief before finally accepting his fate.
